Shadow Deer
A poem I inspired by a dream I had. It's really special to me for some reason.
Something lurks within the forest...
Shadow Deer by Leona Rose Walking through the woods. Near nothing, no neighborhoods.
Through a scenery that whispered spring. With budding leaves and grass of green.
Within the brush I happened to see... A pair of eyes staring at me.
They leapt away as if from fright. Then, a young buck was in my sight.
His fur was pitch black as coal. With an underside white as snow.
Barely growing and not much to look at. His antlers looked sharp as a tack.
We looked at each other, he and I. Before he decided to walk out of sight.
Thinking he was gone for good... I decided to turn and start walking, like I thought I should.
I turned back towards the brush once I heard clopping. Finding that the buck came back and was stomping.
I stared at him for a moment or two. Not knowing what to do.
It wasn't until he walked and looked back... That I realized he wanted me to follow his tracks.
I followed him deep into the brush. The buck at first not seeming to be in a rush.
After a while he began to bound straight ahead. Like a bull seeing the color red.
Wanting to know where he was going... I picked up my feet, my pace not slowing.
Losing sight of him after a while... I continued straight, wanting to know the end of this trial.
Minutes later I broke into a clearing. Where a small lake rests with fog disappearing.
Catching my breath and thinking more clear... Beside the water I spotted my shadow deer.
