The Moon Dragon

It accompanied us what seemed like forever. Long before we even existed, it was already there. We feared it, worshiped it, and dreamed about it; and one day few of us were so lucky to be able to touch it, to set their foot on it.

The Moon...

Nothing fascinated humanity over the course of history like that ball of silver light on the dark night sky. Modern science has already discovered how the Moon came to be. It was nothing special anymore, we thought it will remain unchanged, be there forever.

How wrong we were...

It happened so quickly, that no one even noticed it at first, but then...notes on the internet, emails, news! Within few hours, the world talked about nothing else. The Moon have disappeared! The humanity was in panic. This could mean the end of life on Earth! Astronomers, scientists, no one could explain it nor tell where the Moon went. It or it's remains were nowhere to be found. Unfortunately, it returned as quickly, but in a way not even the wildest fantasies could predict.

That, what we assumed to be nothing more than a huge hunk of dead rock circling around the Earth was in fact a massive silver dragon! Over the countless millennia it remained dormant, rolled in a ball and covered by billions of tons of rocks and dust. Now it awakened and stands tall, towering above the planet. The surface of the Moon, on which once the proud astronauts walked, was now falling down to Earth like dust and rubble. The great beast seemed interested in humanity, but in a rather curious way. It clung to our planet and free of any motion it observed the chaos below. Our society was collapsing, we were not prepared for this. How could we be, anywais? The most advanced nations pulled out their most desperate plans. To leave Earth behind!

Around the globe, three main alliances were born to secure mankind's survival. The first alliance, formed around the Pacific, never stood a chance as the dragon landed hard in their area. As the gigantic beast began circling the planet, next on the list were the Eastern countries. They worked as fast as possible to built their ship, but it was not enough. All hopes were now with the newly reformed old continent. With literarily limitless resources, the work proceeded at incredible speed, as the money or laws were nonexistent anymore. All that mattered was the quickly approaching deadline. This time, it was a great success! A spaceship, which in size rivalled the Earth's greatest mountain, was towering in the heart of the old continent. With two hundred and fifty million possible inhabitants, it was a marvel of mankind's ingenuity! Those lucky enough that were picked were already boarding the spaceship, when the fate and the dragon struck again... In its curiosity, the beast took a closer look at the immense colossus that the humanity engineered, and the masterminds behind this project and its inhabitants were no more! With the lose of this technical masterpiece, all hopes were lost as well. Humanity fell, hard and bloody!

Now, those of us that still remain must make a good use of what little we have left and learn to live in the dragon's shadow...
