Change in Venue- July
Here's the second to last "filler" chapter and a bit more insight into the people responsible for the Incidents. Also I always dislike such fillers for the sole sake of what tags do I even use when nothing is really happening?
Chapter 7: July
“Jahorii Kraen was finally apprehended today after a month long manhunt. Mr. Kraen was considered to be the lead suspect as the mastermind behind the events being referred to as the Incidents. He was first considered a suspect when it was shown that he had made contact with the formerly Anebel Star shortly before she became the target of last month's Incident. Though there is still no real evidence being provided that connects him to any of the other Incidents and the authorities are not giving any information as to how the Incidents have happened he was arrested after several police officers who had been sent to question him were all found dead. Due to lack of evidence connecting him to any of the crimes he has not been charged with anything but the President made a plea to Congress earlier today asking for permission to detain Mr. Kraen until either such evidence can be produced or it can be proven he was not responsible. Mr. Kraen has yet to make any statement.
“In other news the unknown disease that has been spreading throughout the world has reached epidemic levels, causing mass panic and a few riots world-wide in protest to the fact that there has not yet been any information thus far as to how the illness spreads or how soon might they expect there to be a cure released to the general public. The symptoms to this disease seem to be very similar to that of the flu and so far there hasn't yet been any deaths. However there is a growing concern that somehow the Incidents may be involved somehow in the transmission and progression of this disease. As of yet no one who has started showing symptoms has been able to recover fully from the infliction."
“That'll be enough. Thank you Johnathan," A woman states in a polite town.
“Of course, my lady," The man next to the television states, turning it off before returning to the chair right next to her and sitting down. “What are your thoughts on the situation?"
Johnathan sits and pours himself another drink before sitting back and relaxing. Both him and his companion are very formally dressed, each wearing a business suit with nothing else about them standing out of the ordinary. Even their very faces seem to be not only plain but nondescript and generic.
“I'm actually rather surprised that they managed to catch him. To think that given what he is capable of that they ever managed to capture him alive," she comments.
“Well he would have done no benefit if he was found dead. Since they have no proof of him doing anything illegal as was said it'd be impossible for them to justify killing him on sight."
“Actually I was more referring that he allowed himself to be caught at all. I would have thought he would have kept on killing those poor police officers until they were forced to take him down, proof or not."
“Not sure they could. It probably serves his interests in one way or another. But if they did kill him and the Incidents keep happening then that'll just come off to the public as they had killed an innocent man."
“I would hardly consider someone like that to be an innocent man to any degree."
“Even still. And if killing him did stop the Incidents then they won't be able to prove to the public that they know how to prevent such a thing happening again. No, they'll keep him alive until he talks about everything he knows involving the Incidents. And he knows that as well," Johnathan states. “Thus why he hasn't said anything."
“And probably not before long they'll authorize torture to try and force that information out of him, as if that could be done by those barbaric fools."
“Well they are at least trying to do something. It'll probably be a futile effort but they are at least trying. Though I do have wonder what all he might say if he was tortured."
“I wouldn't worry about that. The bigger issue is how he'll never make it to trial. Regardless of if they find any evidence or not due to the problems with doing so they wouldn't be able to hold a single trial until at least next year. And if he was convicted they'd likely lock him away and torture him until either he escapes or dies, or both. But all he'd need to do is wait for the next Incident and then he'd be set free. The state prisons will be all the alibi he'd need to prove that he is not causing the Incidents."
“Either way he's not going to be doing much of anything for a good long while. We'd be talking at least a few months where he wouldn't be able to do a single thing. If he dies he'll never be a problem anymore. If he's imprisoned he'll never be a problem anymore. And if he manages to go free for whatever reason then he's not going to do anything beyond whatever he can do to stay under the radar until they stop looking at him, which will be at least several months."
The two of them sit there a moment or two before the woman speaks up again.
“Though I suppose if nothing else I am very happy for the people on that plane that that reporter had managed to get out on time."
“I'll say," Johnathan responds. “It was definitely very quick thinking on her part to leave before the aura took over. Not sure how many other people would have not managed to try and jump out of the plane before the transformation had completed or there was no longer enough time to get off the plane and get to a safe distance before the all electronics failed."
“And even with her getting far enough away to keep from killing everyone on that plane I heard that many of the electronics still failed on the craft and they had to do an emergency landing. I don't think they'll ever find her given how she was high up in the air she was and she flew away right away. Though speaking of have you heard of anything of the status of the other two?"
“Well considering that you can't really be certain that the fox they have captured is the real Paul or not, the fox they have has been doing pretty well. Though they can't seem to find any indication that he is nothing more than just another fox. He shows no sign of any human level intelligence. Mr. Mikael on the other hand is still in quarantine. He seems to show retention of most of his former self but has serious anger management problems. My sources told me that they even had to have him sedated to keep him under control once he found out that they've captured Jahorii."
“That must have been quite the sight. However it would likely be a very amusing thing to see the half animal try and kill the half monster and how long the fight would go on until he just decided to end it," she laughs after making the statement. She takes a sip of her drink before continuing, “Regardless, I'm half surprised they hadn't had them hyped up on drugs to begin with. Considering especially how much fear is involved in regards to the Incidents. Still it doesn't really make much sense to quarantine him since the latest Incident has happened. I suppose they are keeping him there more to keep him away from the normal people and thus safe from any outrage. I'm sure that there are probably many people blaming him for the Incidents even though they had found that he had no real connection."
“What I want to know more is what do we get to expect in the future. Even if that girl was the last Incident, the entire government structure will have gotten somewhat unstable due to the panic caused by these first three. What would be interesting is if one of the other nations decide to take advantage of this and then attack."
“Well that isn't going to be the main problem. Yes, an attack is possible but people are so ridiculously superstitious that I highly doubt that that will be much of a problem. Fearing that any contact will start giving their own people this situation the other countries are far more likely to refuse anyone from this land from entering their own than they are to willingly enter it themselves. Of course the end result will do nothing more than crash this land's economy and subsequently their own. And all to try and prevent something that would happen anyway, regardless of contact."
The two of them grow rather quiet as another group enter the room and move past them. One of the two men passing through bows slightly to the two of them but neither make really any motion to have any interest beyond their own business. Once the two have left the woman stands up, Johnathan rising right afterwards.
“Anyway, we should get going. I'm sure the others will start to grow concerned if we stay here for too long," she states after looking at one of the clocks nailed up onto the walls.
“Of course my lady, I'll go get the car," Johnathan states before bowing to her. “I'll pull her up front within a few minutes. Wait here."
“Of course," she replies.
After bowing Johnathan turns and grabs his coat before leaving the room. As she watches him goes a very malicious grin begins to cover her face.
“Well, well Jahorii. How do you like your punishment so far?" she asks to the air as if talking to the person discussed on the news. “Perhaps with this if there ever is a next time you won't be so stupid as to think that you are at all capable of trying to stop the process and get away with it without retribution. And least of all that we would tell someone like you enough to actually have a chance of stopping us. Well," she chuckles, “better luck next time."
With that she grabs her purse and her own coat before walking towards the door where she'll meet up with Johnathan once he's gotten out of the parking lot.
