I screamed, "Those fucking liars!!"

Jade looked shocked and said, "Hold on a sec, I think you're overthinking things just a-"

"First they told me that I was making it up, told me that I had a childhood fantasy, now tonight I've just realized that my parents knew that I was telling them the truth the whole fucking time!!!"

Jade stood up on all fours on my bed and shouted, "Casper! Calm your ass down already!"

I was breathing heavily, I was fuming about mom and dad. I took a deep breath, held it for a sec, and let it out slowly.

Jade cocked her head, "Better?"

I sighed, "Better."

I was confused and angry about my parents, before Jade came back from Leon. While she was having a good time with him, here I was shocked by a revelation that my parents are hiding something from me. Not very long after I've found out, Jade came back and here I was screaming at her about my parents, and it wasn't even her fault, it's theirs.

I said to her, "I'm sorry Jade. It's just I can't believe they would do this to me, how they would manipulate me like that."

Jade looked at me and said, "Well maybe you should give them the benefit of doubt."

I stared at her, annoyed at her for defending them, "Jade, I just told what they said before I came in here. I know what I heard."

She shook her head, "Casper-"

I cut her off, "They're hiding something alright? I know they are."

She sighed, "So what are you going to do?"

I shrugged, "Well they said they were going to talk to me tomorrow night. Well maybe I'll beat them to it. I'm going to talk to them at their tent tomorrow night."

She still stared at me, "Then what?"

I thought for a second, "I haven't really figured out that far yet. But I will."

She then got off her bed and walked toward me, "Look Casper, what if there is a reason why they're lying to you? Why would they do it?"

I raised my hands and said, "I don't know and I don't care. They shouldn't lie to me about something like this. Calling me crazy and what not. I didn't deserve it at all, and for that they need a good ass kicking. Only without literally doing it of course."

She laughed at me, then she got serious, "Well if you're going through with it, then maybe I could help you. After all we're partners."

I smiled at her, "Partners, huh? That doesn't sound too bad." Then I said, "It might be dangerous, if they even find out your here, something might happen to you."

Then she said, "Well if anyone tries to hurt me, I'll rip their head off. After all I have to defend myself."

I giggled, "Well lets hope it doesn't come to it. Lets just hope."

She smiled at him, "Listen, I will protect you, no matter what it takes, you got it?"

I smiled at her, "I thought I was protecting you?"

She laughed, "Well there's that as well." Then she yawned, "Look I'm tired, and we'll talk about this tomorrow, and I can't wait to tell you about Leon as well." Then she lied down on the ground.

I rolled my eyes and sighed. I hope things don't get bad tomorrow night. I really hope. I will get my answers, even if I literally have to beat it out of them.

For the rest of the day, I pretended that nothing was bothering me. Even I never told Eileen, Walker, Tabitha, not even Shawna what's been bothering me, I won't take the chance. They might tell mom and dad if I did. Especially Eileen, knowing her that well for being a tattletale she might blow my chances for confronting our mother and father. Plus she would defend them as well, I wouldn't blame her, I wouldn't want to think that mom and dad are bad people.

But I do right now, they have lied to me! From the very beginning they have lied! And you know what? If they won't tell me, then I'm going to confront them about it tonight. After all they did tell me to grow up before.

I was hanging with Jade, Walker, Eileen, and Shawna in my tent just killing time for tonight.

Walked interrupted my thoughts, "Hey pal, you listening to me?"

I looked at him, "Yeah, sorry just got something on my mind."

Walked then said, "You know you been acting like you've got some problem or something. What's up dude?"

Shawna then wrapped her arm around me, "Yeah, Casper what's the matter? You know you can tell your sexy girlfriend anything."

I laughed at that and then I turned to face her, "Sexy huh? What part of you is sexy?"

Shawna playfully slugged me, and then gave me a kiss on the cheek, "My lips, that's sexy."

Eileen just rolled her eyes, "Jesus guys, get a room."

We both laughed, "Well you wanna know who else should get a room?" Then I pointed at Jade, "Jade here has a boyfriend now."

Both Shawna and Eileen said, "Awwww."

Jade then looked at me and said, "Casper, why are Eileen and Shawna staring at me like that?"

I giggled, "What? You didn't hear me? I've told them you have a boyfriend."

Jade then blushed, "Heh heh, yeah."

Then Walker said, "Hey you know what dude? I've been thinking if filmmakers were making a movie about you and Jade, what actor would play you?"

Eileen said, "Oh, that's easy. Channing Tatum."

My eyes went wide at that, "What?! I don't want Channing Tatum to play me, are you kidding?"

Walker then said, "Well I would know who would be the perfect person to play you. Robert Pattinson."

I said, "Robert Pattinson? Wait? You mean the guy from the Twilight movies, the guy who played that vampire Edward Cullen?"

Walker then beamed and said, "Yeah, that guy's perfect to play you. Since he played as a vampire, I'm sure he can play someone who can talk to animals."

Shawna then smiled and said, "I think he's right. Robert's perfect. He's hot."

I smiled and said, "Ok then what about Jade? Who would play her?"

Eileen giggled and said, "Drew Barrymore."

Walker gasped, "Oh yeah she's a good actress, she's still the best. The one of the movies I remember seeing her in was E. T."

All of smiled at that, oh man imagine me being played by Robert Pattinson and Jade being played by Drew Barrymore. That would be great. But everyone in the whole world would have to know about me first. Which I doubt.

I said, "Hey guys this was fun, but I'm hungry now, stay with jade I'll be right back." I walked out the tent and on my way to the mess hall, I saw mom and dad's work tent.

I'll see them tonight, they can count on it.

When nightfall finally came, me and Jade were getting ready to sneak to mom and dad's tent. For starters we have to get out of my tent first.

I looked at Jade, standing near the entrance to the tent, "Ok, you ready to go?"

Jade nodded then said, "I'm pretty nervous."

I nodded, "I know, but just remember the plan. I go in the tent, you hide somewhere outside near that tent and you try to listen to what I'm saying to them. If I'm in trouble or something like that, you get in that tent and you save me, got it?"

She nodded, "Yeah I got it. But I don't think your mom and dad would hurt you."

I shrugged, "Well considering how they lied to me, I'm not taking any chances. Just help me if I'm in trouble, alright?"

"Got it, lets go."

Me and Jade went outside, nobody walking around so far so good. Then me and Jade wandered all the way to my parents work tent, the light looked like it's still on. Me and Jade ducked near the bushes and then I said to her, "Ok, it's close enough. Wait here."

Jade nodded and then she gave me a lick on the cheek, "Be careful Casper."

I smiled at her, "Don't worry I will." Then I turned to the tent. I was close to the entrance getting ready to open it. Ok, show time. Then I opened it and went through. It was empty.

Damn it there's nobody here. All I saw was a bunch of vases and stuff like that. Then I had a thought, maybe I could find something in here that's worth finding.

I rummaged through my dads desk, finding a bunch of junk. Before I could find anything mom and dad came in and saw me snooping.

They gasped, and then mom said, "Casper? What are you doing in here?"

I gasped as well, I didn't know what to say right now, "I...Uh...Ahh..."

Dad had a stern voice and said, "Casper come out form behind there right now."

I came out from behind the desk, and stood in front of them, looking guilty.

Dad had an angry expression on his face and said, "What are you doing behind my desk?"

Mom then said, "Answer him! What are you doing here? You can't come in our tent, the stuff that we're doing here is dangerous work."

I still stuttered, "I...Uh...Hmmm."

Dad then softened his gaze, "What do you want, Casper?"

Then I finally stabled my voice and said, "You know something guys. I don't really know anymore. I thought maybe I deserve happiness. But I guess not huh? Because it makes you wonder about some people. That you think you know them, but then later on in your own life, you realize that you never really knew a person at all, until they do something that's so wrong it makes you question them."

Mom and dad looked at me bewildered, then mom said, "Casper...We have know idea what you're talking about."

I put up an angry stare at them, and coldly said, "You know exactly what I'm talking about."

Dad shook his head, "No actually we don't. What's wrong, you're acting strange again."

I still kept up my angry stare, "Is that what you say to your kids, they act strange?"

Then dad raised his voice, "Casper, we can't help you if you don't tell us."

I grew frustrated and said, "Look why don't stop doing acting classes already and quit screwing around. I know alright?! I know the truth! You didn't want to tell me anything, but you knew all along the whole time!"

They bore shocked faces, dad said, "Casper-"

"I've heard you guys talking to each other last night, about me telling you about Jade and some bullshit like that."

Mom looked like she has been caught and then said, "Hold on, you heard us talking last night?"

I gave them a accusing stare, "So you're not denying it? You did know the truth about me?"

Dad sighed and shook his head, "Look, it's just a misunderstanding-"

I was fuming and yelled, "A misunderstanding?! You were hiding something from me and you called me crazy before, after I've told you about Jade. You didn't listen to me and you told me to grow up. Well guess what guys? I AM GROWN UP, and I'm sick to death of your bullshit!"

Dad then grew serious, "Casper sit down."

I yapped at him, "Fuck you!"

Dad then screamed at me, "I want you to sit down NOW."

"Oh my god, why don't you keep telling me more lies already? Did something happened to me when I was thirteen? Why am I talking to lions and why am I the only one? What's happening to me? Why was I in the hospital? Was it more than just a broken arm? Am I a...Test subject? Stop lying to me!"

Both of their eyes went wide, then they both looked at each other. They both nodded and they stared back at me.

I asked, "Well?"

Dad finally said, "Ok Casper but if we tell you this, you can't tell anyone, not even Shawna, you understand?"

I screamed, "You keep Shawna out of this!"

Mom said, "Casper, calm down."

I took a deep breath and said, "Alright fine I won't tell anyone, now tell me what's happened to me. Why am I talking to lions? Please guys, enough with the games already."

Mom said, "Casper...You're not a test subject. You're nobodies subject."

I sneered, "Well at least you're telling the truth."

Mom looked guilty, and then dad said, "Listen son, this is top secret. You see...Casper, do you remember me and mom used to work for the government?"

I nodded, "Yeah, but you don't work for them anymore. You work for a different organization."

Mom nodded, "Yes, well we did a lot of things in the past. Before we were let go."

I looked at them quizzically, "What are you talking about?"

Dad then told the tale, "Before we were born, back in the 1950s, the scientists working for the government did a lot of experiments years ago. Hired a lot of test subjects back then."

I tilted my head a bit, "Huh?"

Mom smiled and said, "You see those scientists years ago, were making an experiment...That can make you talk to lions and understand them well."

I gasped, "What?"

Dad said, "You see the reason why they made that kind of thing is, what would happen if a human could talk to an animal? What are those animals thinking really? And what is it they really do? Think of the scientific breakthrough they've had."

I was confused and said, "So what are you saying? They've made some experiment that'll have humans talk to an animal?"

They both nodded.

I looked at them and asked, "So is this what I have inside me? An experiment that can make me talk to lions?"

They nodded again.

I said, "But wait just one certain animal? I can't talk to other animals?"

Mom said, "Well we think you can talk to other big car species, but lions mostly. Maybe even tigers, cheetahs, and panthers."

Wow this is interesting, I said, "I don't get it. How come no one heard of any of this? Why haven't I?"

Mom said, "Because back then it was a top secret experiment, no one working for the government, not even the president of the united states at one point back then knew it."

I asked, "So, how did you guys get involved in this? How do you really know all this stuff?"

Dad said, "Because we were top picked for it and that was years ago, before your sister was born actually. Your mom was pregnant with her around that time."

I still have questions that needed answered, "So what happened to the experiment? Are they still making it?"

They shook their heads, "No, the experiment's been discarded. No one makes it anymore. That was when you were thirteen."

My eyes went wide, "What do you mean?" Then I changed the question a bit, "Actually on second thought, how did I get it? I thought you said I wasn't a test subject."

Dad said, "You're not. But how you got it, it's a long story."

I glared at him, "Try me."

Dad nodded, "Alright, but let me ask you something. What do you remember?"

I was appalled by the question, "Remember what?"

Then he said, "About your stay at the hospital, when you were thirteen. What do you remember?"

"All I remember is, I broke my arm at school, and I've got sent to the doctor there."

Then mom said, "Yes, but do you remember before the doctor saw you? After you've got your cast on your arm?"

I was trying to remember, wait I can't remember. What are they asking me? "Look guys just tell me."

Mom nodded, "Well you see, somebody knew about the experiment at the bio room in the hospital. Do you remember we used to work there?"

I nodded.

"Well lets just say we were making it there, and someone leaked the information, and someone with a ski mask tried to steal it. But the problem was you caught him."

I gasped, wait that sounds like those strange dreams that I was having. They were real? I asked, "What happened?"

Dad said, "Look we're just guessing, but we think you went to the restroom at the hospital, and we think you caught that man red handed, then all of a sudden after he ran away, you collapsed to the ground. Me and your mom found you and we figured out why. You were breathing the experiment. You were dying."

Then mom said, "Luckily you survived, thank god you did."

Dad said, "And because of that guy in the ski mask, the government found out what happened and decided it was too risky to make more of it anymore. So they scrapped the experiment."

I gasped. Wait, so that's how I got this ability. Because of this experiment that was made by the government. I don't believe it. I said, "But wait if that's true, then why can't I remember?"

Dad said, "Because the reason why you don't remember is that you were suffering from one of the side effects of the experiment."

I gasped again. Side effect?! I demanded, "What kind of side effect?"

Mom said, "There are not a lot of side effects, even if there were they would be rare. But the most common side effect any test subject would have is memory loss. When you woke up at the hospital after we saved you, you didn't remember what happened."

So that's why I don't remember. Those dreams that I've had about me in the hospital seeing that ski mask fellow, it was just my memory trying to come back. My subconscious was trying to tell me something. Finally it makes sense. But then I have another question, "You said there were test subjects, do you mean there were others like me?"

They both nodded, "Yes there were, but we don't know what happened to them. After the experiment was discarded a few years ago, nobody knows what happened to them."

A thought came to me, the photo of Karone and that human. Maybe Karone did meet and talk to that human, maybe that human did understand her.

"Guys I need to ask you something. Does aunt Tabitha know?"

They shook their head, then dad said, "No, she never knew anything, neither your sister. We couldn't tell you Casper, because we thought you wouldn't believe us. And we had to lie to you before. We couldn't take any risk of people knowing that our government was making this stuff, understand?"

I stared at them, "So all this time you've called me crazy and now I realize you knew I was telling you the truth the whole time."

Mom nodded, "We did believe you honey, and we didn't mean to hurt you, make you feel like you're crazy. We knew you weren't."

I looked down at my feet, "God guys, I don't know what to say."

Mom then gave me a hug, "We're sorry, Casper. We really are, we didn't mean to hurt you. We both love you so much."

I smiled and then mom let me go, "It's okay, mom, and I'm sorry for yelling at you guys tonight. I've just felt so angry at you, I thought you betrayed my trust."

Dad had a guilty look, "You have every right to feel betrayed, we lied to you and we're paying for it."

I smiled at him, "Yeah, you're definitely paying for it." Then all of us laughed awkwardly. Then I just remembered that Jade was outside, "Hey guys I want to introduce you to my friend. Wait here." Then I went outside to get Jade, she came out of her spot and I told her to come with me, and then me and her went inside the tent together. Jade saw mom and dad and she walked slowly toward them.

Mom and dad both gasped. Then mom looked at me and asked, "Is that her? Jade?"

I introduced her to my friend, "Yep, this is Jade." Then I said to Jade, gesturing to my parents, "Jade, this my mom and dad."

Jade looked at them, smiled and said "Hello."

Mom said with a fond look, "Awww, she's beautiful." Then mom petted her and then Jade started purring.

Dad then looked at me and said in amusement, "My own son talking to a lion. You really care about her, don't you?"

I nodded "Of course I do, she's my best friend. I would do anything for her and she would do anything for me. I would protect her, no matter what."

Dad smiled, "I know you would, son." Then he hugged me, "I'm proud of you."

I hugged my father back and said, "I love you, dad."

He said, "I love you too."

As Jade saw me hugging, she decided to hug my mom. Mother shrieked as she was being hugged by my friend. Me and dad saw them together and we all laughed.
