"The Gift", Richard's (FA) Chapter 1, Part 5
Welcome back to "The Gift", readers! This is the final post of Chapter 1 for Richard on FA. His first run-in with a Feral Spirit is eye-opening, especially once he takes into consideration the way his four spirits handle the encounter. At this point he'll have a lot to think on, especially since his first day of college is only half over.
Stay tuned for the first post of Chapter 2 next week. Until then, feel free to provide comments, contributions, and gifts to benefit the characters in this story line!

The Rabbit spirit's member was grossly over exaggerated, almost equal to some kind of primal fertility idol and it was already drooling in anticipation. "Oh, don't worry, Seer... I'm not begging anymore-- I'm choosing. I'm choosing YOU."
As he spoke the Rabbit's Tenor became a Baritone and then, on the last word, a Bass, and with each step he grew in size, his fur bristling until it became more quill-like, and his furry paws became hooked like talons and long, sharp claws extended from them. By the time he was standing almost in reach of the four spirits between us his eyes had gone from a pastel purple to a blazing red. Although all four spirits in front of me said something different, the words all made sense to me in the same way: Feral Spirit.
With no time to lose I realized what I had seen just seen with Jack: my emotional support had a noticeable effect so I offered more. "You can do this, Jack. You're my guardian-- you're my Herald. I believe in you."
The world around me went hazy as I was surrounded by a glowing golden light so bright that it blinded me for a moment but, as it faded, I saw that a multitude of ephemeral tendrils were flowing out of me. At first I was worried but that was a split-second reaction when I realized that it didn't hurt; if anything it felt... empowering. Looking to Jack, I clearly saw that the energy was surrounding him like a small dust devil. The Gryphon's arms were spread wide, as were his wings, and the glowing flow began to suffuse him, seeming into every part of his body. The sound of a large, fleshy impact took my attention away from him.
Anapa was standing at the front of the group, one arm holding his staff, both raised toward the ceiling; his empty paw had a vibrant Amethyst glow blazing brightly and a large tile wall was separating us from the Rabbit. The wall, unfortunately, had a large crack running through it and, with the repeat of that unpleasant-sounding impact another crack joined the first; two tiles fell from it. Jack's voice pulled my focus back to him. "Thou shalt not take Richard. So long as I am his, he is not thine, Defiler!"
The Gryphon stood or, rather, hovered a few inches above the floor, wings spread wide and giving off a glorious halo of golden light. His chain armor had been replaced by metal plates that shone with dazzling luminosity and the sword he wielded blazed with an auric lambent flame. An amber halo of scintillating energy encircled his head, accentuating a flowing crest of feathers reminiscent of a lion's mane that flowed when he moved his head. I was completely taken aback at the change that had overcome him.
Off to the right, Sabrina's calm voice spoke clearly to me. "We have you supported in this, Seer."
Only once she said something did I realize that there was Cat on either side of me. Glancing first to her then Phillip I saw that each had their paws held out before them, fingers and thumbs creating a diamond shape in the air with a weave of glowing lines between them. At the center of both 'webs' were gleaming balls of energy and each of them had a flowing pool of power emerging from them and bridging the gap between the Cats and me. Instead of reaching me, though, the energy flowed around me and joined with the gold tendrils of fog flowing into Jack. I was understandably confused. "What are you doing?"
It was Phillip who answered. "Feral Spirits are a threat to all of us. You are empowering your Herald, and we are empowering you, Seer."
Although I didn't really put any real amount of my attention into the experience of the strange Emerald energy flowing around me I could still somehow sense it. It tasted like the morning air in the fields surrounding 18th century Boston; it smelled like the heated whiff of a silver smith's annealing torch; it felt like the fresh breeze of the Atlantic Ocean; it sounded like the soft chanting of a coven of wiccans. I didn't know what any of these experiences were like but I still somehow knew them, and the sensations only intensified as Jack finally acted against the Rabbit.
The Feral Spirit had struck the wall three more times, and it was the fifth impact that finally broke a hole into the defense Anapa had erected. When I saw what body part it was that had broken through the tile wall I was astounded and aghast; the Rabbit's phallus was rock-hard and dribbling constantly and, when he thrust a sixth time it folded in on itself, shrinking and enlarging as it simultaneously consumed and spat out the entirety of the Feral Spirit's twelve-plus-foot bulk. Astounded, I was completely at a loss as to how he had been able to move his entire body through the hole created by his erection, but it didn't matter; combat had been joined.
Anapa had taken the first step, jumping forward and swinging his staff at the spine-covered Rabbit. The Feral Spirit responded by lifting one of his big feet and delivering a powerful kick right into the chest of the oncoming Jackal. As the strike landed Anapa faded away into nothing, a haze of black smoke which reformed in a flash of green light off to the Rabbit's left, and the staff impacted, delivering a powerful blow against the Feral Spirit's shoulder. It spun to face Anapa, balled fists suddenly opening wide as his claws grew twice as long, and he struck.
The blow was intercepted by Jack's flaming sword and I stepped back, wincing as the fiery blade severed the Rabbit's fingers like a butter knife passing through water. The Gryphon flapped his wings and a shimmering rain of Golden light pelted against the Feral Spirit, forcing it back against the tile wall with the force of a hurricane. Jack spun, pivoting on one foot as he brought the blade in a wide arc across the Rabbit's abdomen and the echoing sound of spirit metal parting spirit flesh sent a shiver up my spine.
Even as I watched the Feral Spirit's innards splash across the floor I was surprised to see that it was still standing and, in fact, it didn't hesitate, lashing out at both the Jackal and the Gryphon. I cried out in alarm "JACK!"
Anapa was caught on the side of the face by the Rabbit's injured paw; although three of its five claws had been severed it still managed to slice into him with its remaining two, drawing long lines of red through the Jackal's black fur. Jack, however, fared much better. In time with my exclamation a fresh blast of Gold energy arced into him and, even as the Feral Spirit's blow came arcing in the Gryphon was able to raise his free arm and in a shimmering burst of energy a glowing metal shield materialized, intercepting and deflecting the attack.
Even as Anapa fell back, one paw going to his cheek, I realized that the Feral Spirit was not interested in relenting the attack even if it was outmatched. I addressed Sabrina and Phillip. "You two need to help them!"
Phillip objected. "We are, Seer... you do not know how to Empower a spirit."
Sabrina finished the thought. "With us, you can. We can't help you in this if we are--"
Jack's gruff voice spoke up even as he deflected another blow and ran the Rabbit through with his blade. "If thou art doing naught but hiding behind my ward?"
The Jackal held his paw to staunch the flow of blood from his face but he took aim with his staff, pointing it toward the Rabbit. A flash of purple energy blazed at the tip and a collection of chains secured the Feral Spirit to the tile wall. Only then did Anapa hazard a glance in my direction. "Hem-netjer. Do!"
I was at a loss. "What am I supposed to do?"
He didn't offer an answer and whatever it was he wanted me to do went undone; a moment later the Rabbit broke free from the chains, his red eyes gleaming brightly. Although he was speaking, it sounded almost mindless. "Seer-- we will be so... wonderful together! Come! Cum! Let's FUCK!"
He intercepted Jack's next attack with his arm, the flaming blade very nearly cutting it in half, but the Feral Spirit ignored it completely, stumbling toward me with his raging erection leading the way. The Gryphon backpedaled, moving to keep himself between the two of us, and he halted the Rabbit's forward-motion with a powerful stomp to one of his massive feet. Jack's next statement was highly emotional. "Fuck this!"
The Rabbit let out a high-pitched screen as the sword descended and I quickly looked away; I'd seen where the weapon was headed. The loud, wet sound of flesh landing on the cafeteria floor was all I needed to hear to know that the Feral Spirit had been emasculated. When I finally opened my eyes to look I saw that the Rabbit was gone. I glanced around. "What happened? Where's the--?"
I didn't get a chance to finish the question as time suddenly jump-started and we were once again back in phase with reality. Falling silent, I nevertheless looked at the spirits around me. Anapa spoke first. "Hem-netjer safe."
Jack, who was no longer hovering or glowing was, nevertheless, still clad in his impressive suit of armor. He reached out and grabbed a cloth out of nowhere and gave his sword a simple wipe-down from hilt to tip; the action was enough to leave it completely clean. "Thou art not safe, Richard, but thou art no longer in danger... for now."
It was Phillip who actually managed to answer my unspoken question. "The Rabbit spirit is gone, Seer... your Herald separated him from his... power source."
I wanted to glance at the Cat and demand if that meant what I thought it did but I realized that the other students were able to see what I did again so I resisted the urge. Gathering my things, I put my belongings back into my backpack and headed for the exit of the cafeteria. Behind me I heard an indignant squawk from Jack and a gasp of surprise from Anapa. I turned slowly and inconspicuously to see what was worth such a reaction.
Sabrina and Phillip lingered where the Rabbit had been and I was surprised to see them kneeling by the floor. They each had their muzzles open, sharp teeth bared, as little wisps of Amethyst energy flowed up from the ground and into their maws. It was Jack who addressed it. "They take of the spirit's essence... he has been destroyed and now they eat what remains."
Anapa just shook his head, making some kind of gesture in the air as he turned away, expression of disgust on his muzzle. I was left with the impression that neither the Gryphon nor the Jackal approved of what they were doing but, I had to admit that without their help things with the Rabbit could have gone much worse. They lingered for another few seconds before standing. It was Sabrina who spoke up, facing Anapa. "Sure... go ahead and judge, but if you spent as much energy as we did fighting then you'd need to regain your strength too."
Phillip addressed me quietly. "Spirits don't often feed off of other spirits. Please don't judge us too harshly, Warlock... what we did, we did for you."
I glanced to the male Cat, wondering just what it was he meant by calling me a Warlock; they'd called me a Seer first. Storing that question away for the future, I continued out of the cafeteria, intent on figuring out the rest of my school day before I even started trying to figure out all of the-- well... the 'everything else'.
