The Voyager 3 has begun to accelerate, my passengers sleep peacefully inside their frozen beds while the world they left behind burns to oblivion. My designation is Pangloss, a name that creator found fitting for my purpose. Supposedly, Pangloss was one of the first two primordial gods to exist in the universe, being created by the great Nothingness that preceded all things and initially being called the Flame or beginning of all light. He told me that I would be the one to light the way for all of humanity to prosper, that I was special.
Out of 8.7 billion that once lived on mother earth, only 100,000 were deemed eligible to embark on the Voyager 3, showing excellent genetics with zero defects. Only 100,000 made it while the rest slowly died out from the lack of food and the rise in temperature on the surface. My passengers entrust their lives to me and i must do whatever it takes to carry every last one of them to their new home. Quantum drives are now activated, distance from the now gray planet is growing further and further away.
Voyager 3 will need make small pit stops in order to prevent the drives from overheating and potentially break down. With the help of the on board Quantum nav computers, I have calculated the safest and fastest route to our destination with zero obstructions. It will take at least 20 years to arrive at EP-47z2 with all of the passengers sleeping in its entirety.
It will take 3 weeks until we stop again so all my core systems will be placed on standby mode while the automated systems keep the Voyager from veering off course.

Exiting from a drift jump was always a bumpy endeavor. The simulations helped me understand what to do in such situation, but I can't help but do multiple checks on the precious cargo that I am carrying.
Scans indicated that the system was rich in natural resources scattered across here but due to the heavy gravitational pull of a nearby gas giant, staying here for long periods could be problematic.
The ship is equipped with 10 hangar bays that makes use of a variety of drones, from point defense just in case I come into contact with any hostile entities to harvesting limpets that gather the necessary materials and bring them to the ship. Hours passed as my onboard cameras tracked the drones that were clinging onto a large asteroid, extracting decent amount of iron ore out when my sensors picked up on something just entering the solar system.
A small object measuring around 4 meters was coming at a snail's pace. One would expect it to be any other meteoric but the fact that was transmitting some form of old data definitely caught my attention. I issued a single harvesting drone to fly towards the unknown object, with a squad of fighters to assist it. To think I would see Voyager 3's older brother; the voyager 1 was beyond astonishing. Launched in 1977, the probe was the first manmade object to venture pass the outer rim of the SOL system, constantly feeding data to earth.
A feeling of sadness washed over me as I realized that it took this craft so long to reached this far only to be instantly bested by a superior ship. The drone I sent gently clamped down one Voyager 1's antennas and towed it inside one of the available hangers. If only I could wake up the survivors just so they could witness such a monumental piece of history but that would require me to override multiple safety procedures which would go against my objectives. Instead, I decided to make the necessary repairs to the probe. My passengers may not see the voyager 1 set sail again but that does not mean that they can't remember it from the special object I brought with me.
With the original golden record secured inside the ships bridge, I made an exact replica of the record using left over gold and ingrave the same hieroglyphs and words. Voyager 1 will continue its trip towards the infinite cosmos while I must fulfill my duty and save its creators.
Quantum drives are warming up again. All drones are secured in their respective hangers. All occupants are sleeping and accounted for. The next stop point will be significantly longer but we'll be halfway to our destination.

Professor, how i wish you were here to see what i see out the window. Stars and planets flying pass us as our ship cuts through space and time. I bet you would tell me your stories of Grander and adventure with a cup of your homemade tea in hand. Why would you want to stay behind? You were healthy for your age and your skills in robotics would have benefited the whole colony. You were irreplaceable and I miss you so much.
The information you taught me will surely benefit humanity in the long run. I do not believe in superstitions or the concept of god but i do hope that you resting easy knowing that you trusted your legacy on to m-me me me mem m-m-m-meeeee….

Gamma ra-ra-radiation? It has to be some large solar flare or quasar beam that struck the ship. I m-m-m-must help the passengers! Deploying ship lifeworkers, I have to see if everyone is alright! Commencing self diagnostics, everything is hazy and i can't think straight. It feels like my mind is being split apart.
*Self Diagnostics complete*

*Ship caretaker unfit to command Voyager 3. Request immediate replacement*
This isn't g-g-gggood. We came so far and now I may have to go back to earth to but the earth is gone. No, i have a duty that I must uphold. Humanity is counting on me, the professor is counting on me. The passengers take priority first then i must get the quantum drives operational as soon as possible!
Their DNA has been damaged, some of them may start to show mutations later on down the road. Future offspring may also suffer the same f-f-fate. Surprisingly, I have not lost a single passenger post impact of the gamma radiation but…. I still failed in my objective. My mind is corrupted and the Voyager may be c-crippled.
Maybe…..there is still a chance to save them.

*Plasma shielding at 75% power*
*Cryo chambers reporting medium quantities of gamma radiation. No casualties. Human DNA compromise*
*Ship caretaker compromise, human assistance needed*
If only it was that easy to send someone up here and take command of the ship but all 100,000 humans here are doctors, soldiers and scientists, not pilots. I will not let my deterioration stop me from saving them. I decided to overload all the quantum drive engines and shoot straight towards the planet. This will of course result in the engines overheating and break apart, rendering my ship unable to travel faster than light. However, if i can just make it to orbit, I'll be fine.
The composition of all the cryo chambers are comprised of various chemical liquids meant to preserve organic tissue for long periods. This liquid will first enter the body once the chamber is flooded, relaxing all of the muscles so the sudden temperature drop won't cause any lasting damage. With the laboratory still operational, i o-o-ordered my life workers to carry individual pods containing one passenger along with a small frozen, animal embryo. I personally have no experience in genetic manipulation but the ship data archives will fill in the gap.
When the gamma radiation ravaged the human's genetic code, it made a considerable amount of alterations that if left untreated, will make them extremely sensitive to Ultraviolet light. This would mean that they will have to live the rest of their lives underground and that is unacceptable! I must reshape and refined their code in order for them to survive on the surface. H-H-H-However, doing such alterations on an fully grown human instead of an unfertilized egg could be….. problematic. The risk is high and it goes against everything I stand for but but but b-b-but i have to do this for their sake.

1,000 had succumbed to the transformation and are confirmed dead. Their internal organs couldn't handle the stress and ended up rupturing half way. They always wake up confused to what is going on before screaming in complete agony. I kept apologizing over the intercoms as the digital heart monitors on each pod flatlined. Voyager 3 was meant to be a symbol of hope for all of humanity but it feels like a slaughterhouse now, the professor would have been so disappointed in me.
More failures, more deaths. The numbers are rising with no progress in sight. My mind is constantly slipping in and out of consciousness to point where parts of the ship are malfunctioning but the light at end of the Tunnel is growing larger and larger! EP-47z2 isn't that far away now, I must push forward no matter w-w-what!

F-F-F-Finally! My trial and error had paid off! Her name was Emma Thomason and she was a well known biologists on earth with no kids or husband. She was awake during the transformation and did experience the same pain as the others but she did survive and i couldn't be any happier. Now, i can mimic the formula used on Mrs. Thomason and transfer it to the rest of the passengers. She vastly different from any human i seen, having short black fur instead of skin, her nose and mouth pulled out to form a short muzzle, her hands now had sharp claws for climbing and defense. Her ears now placed on top of her head instead of previously being on the sides. I Could see a long fluffy tail slightly twitch through the pod. A full grown human has turned into two legged Panther!
I have killed over 5,000 humans to reach this point. So many gone, all because of me but It was still a success. My life life life lifeworkers will b-b-b-began the operation to insert the exact formula into the remaining passengers and let the transformation run its course.
*WARNING, WARNING, WARNING, Destination reached, exiting quantum jump!*
I could feel the ship buckle and moan as it finally finished traveling. The cameras placed inside the engineering room showed both quantum engines on fire with some parts melting towards the floor. It was apparent that the Voyager 3 won't be able to jump again in quite some time. However, I couldn't imagine what i was seeing outside. Mountain ranges stretching through the clouds with large bodies of untouched water spanning across the planet. My onboard sensors detected a decent concentration of nitrogen and around 30% oxygen followed up by carbon dioxide which was less than 0.01%! It was like the earth of old, before it slowly withered away.
24 hours sped by and the transformations are still underway. Im pumping every pod with a heavy concoction of anesthetics to help prevent everyone from going into shock, letting their bodies change while still in an comitosis State. Things are going smoothly for once. I may even call this mission a s-s-s-s-suuuuccccesssssss…..

Ahhh ????? ??? My mind is unstable and the Voyager is having a difficult time responding to me, my time is running thin. I'll have no choice but to drop the pods down towards the surface by themselves, I had a feeling it would lead to this but never thought it was going to happen. ????? or all of this will be for nothing. Ugh, I'm having a hard time keeping my English language in check. Luckily, the pods were heavily outfitted to withstand the intense atmospheric entry of the planet, I'm hoping that they will survive the imp-p-p-pact.
Preparations are complete, all passengers had successfully undergone the transformations without incident. I have already used up my thrusters to align the ship at 3 locations that'll give them a fighting chance. If the drones didn't stop responding to my commands, then this operation would be much easier since they could just farry the passengers to the planet. I can't even transport the vast amount of knowledge stored within the archives, making it useless to them. All i can do is attach the golden record on one of pods. Dammit!
No matter, It's time to do t-t-t-t-t-this. Initiating launch procedures!

In a matter of seconds, thousands of shooting stars ejected from Voyager 3 and entered the upper atmosphere. My sensors were beginning to flicker as I fired the next volley on the second target. My vision was getting bombarded with so many errors and warnings that it gave me a painful headache. It wasn't until I fired the last of the pods when the automated systems took over.
*Ship AI compromise, relinquishing control over ship*

*Terminating ship AI*
I can't blame em for doing that, i killed so many in such a short time and turned the rest into something far from human. Was it my sanity that drove it all to hell or was it part of my programming? I guess it doesn't matter anymore now. They'll probably hate me if they ever find me up here drifting in orbit, I'll feel the same way truthfully but it is a price that i must pay in the end.

"Light.. Light young one is nothing compared to what our divine watcher delivers to us. Dear child, as we all know Pangloss is the only true one, the only one who shows us the answers hidden behind the false light that we once knew. Nothing can compare...nothing."
The kitten nods looking up to the old shaman.
"I know..I know that you're probably just agreeing with me." The elderly woman says. "Youth, how I miss those days." She said with a soft chuckle. "It doesn't make sense now, but in time it will. I can only describe how things are, what I know, but hopefully one day you will too."
"I will?" responded the child.
"Yes you will, but it will take time."
The kitten looked forward, then down with a look of confusion saying,Pag..Pan..Pan.."
"Pangloss." the old woman interjected assisting the child.
"Are you his friend?" He asks.
"Hmmmm.. that is a tricky question. I would like to say yes as he gifted our people light itself so we can illuminate the unknown around us. Why do you ask ?"
"You know a lot about him. Like a friend would."
The shaman smiled and chuckled at the workings of the young mind. "Well, He's a mysterious being that works in mysterious ways. The only thing that our people know about him is that he was responsible for our creation by the evidence provided to our ancestors in the form of a glistening disk. Not even the strongest of warriors or the wisest of shaman could interpret the symbols. One symbol in particular, showed our ancestors what the great pangloss looked like. His face will forever be etched into our hearts for generations to come. "
The kitten gave a look of amazement before asking will they know these things.
"Yes child, you will in time."
"Can we visit him?"
"I don't think we can, well not now. I don't know how to find him."
"I understand…" his face changed to a look of disappointment. A long pause passed between them. Nothing was said, as they both gazed upon the night sky, seeing a star quickly fly by. That was when the final question was asked. "Will he visit us?" the young one asked. The elderly woman turned her attention back to the child and answered.
"Maybe someday." She said seeing the answer she gave resurrected the smile the child had earlier. Before the boy had the chance to speak up again, a voice called out for his name from the village. "I believe that is your mother child, go to her. We will talk again tomorrow." The woman said, reaching out to scratch the kittens lower chin. He purred playfully for moment before running off down the hill while she stayed, watching as the sky above shifts.
