the first bit of Otherside....I know it's short but I take it as it comes and it explains what needs to be for now. anyways enjoy if ya can ;)

Fire everywhere…licking hungrily around and over everything in sight…smoke devoured the remaining air steadily as explosions rocketed up and roared in a deafening cacophony. The metallic protest of the lab rang and buzzed…electric wires fizzing and hanging dangerously like snakes ready to strike and kill.

But the change was almost complete…nearly finished. 'He' was secure and that was all that mattered. An old scientist sat watching and waiting even as his surroundings became more and more precarious for him, in his old grim eyes lay the determination to see the end and if necessary die so that his work might yield forth what he and many before him and strived for…the last hope of humanity.

What remained of his stringy hair lay thick with beads of sweat that ran like rivers of salt and fear down his brow to his old eyes which he wiped now and then…taking off his spectacles and running his face along the soft material of his shirt. He couldn't give into his urge to run and save himself, to abandon the dock and perhaps survive. He might be able to escape and strike out in an attempt to duplicate his project. Perhaps it was worth giving up…however he had come too far and worked too hard for any of these thoughts to take much hold on him. All of the readings for the system were green and ready to initiate the process.

Coughing he glanced sidelong at the bubbling molten hot liquid and shock proof glass dome that whirred around his crowning achievement leaning heavily on the dash and staring for a long moment of relief at the controls.

There was a chance that all of this had been for nothing, that the subject would fail and that his years of study were in vain. Eyes drifting back and forth between the machine and his death he sighed weary and excepting of what this moment meant.

Hand on the lever a single tear slid down one of his cheeks as the heat became almost too much for him to physically bear, the skin of his palm glued to the metal it gripped.

The Dr knew that whatever happened his tests were complete, that he finally had accomplished what he was always meant to.

His life came back to him within those few seconds, flashes of memory barely whispers of the past that meant everything with the confines of time. Through the great war and through it all, his friends, his wife, his family had watched him rise and better himself until at last time and misfortune had taken each out of his existence. Oh how he missed them!

A moan of pain escaped his lips as his body shook with feeling and emotions that racked him to his core.

“Save us……" he whispered in a broken voice that sobbed with defeat. “Find a way to remember what came before, why so many have died for you. Hear us and above all hear me" he said…his voice rising in vehemence and strength until he was practically yelling. “Save us!"

Pushing down with all of his might he engaged the lever and listened and watched as the inside of that dome begin to spin with bright light, given by energy and the drive of creation, the power of conviction and the care and love that it's creator had given it. Then it flashed in a pulsating brilliance beating like a heart even as the last sound he ever heard resounded and engulfed his body and the whole of the dock as it burst apart, going up in it's destruction and marking the death of the creator……
