I had a dream, some sort of ancient being congratulating me that I won a lottery of some sort and they gave me a "blessing" for a week. Whoever they are, they warned me, "You better be on your toes today. I suggest packing up and live in that forest cabin of yours until the time runs out. Good luck, human."

I jolted up. What a dream that was. I checked my reflection on the bathroom mirror. Nope, still the same old me, a 30-year-old male, single, having one of those mediocre jobs, but still living in this small apartment room.

"Ugh, I'm almost late. Who cares about some stupid dream?" I packed up some sandwiches and locked the door, while bringing the key to my forest cabin with some canned food just in case.

I arrived at my workplace right on time. Panting a bit due to the earlier run, I regained my composure after some deep breaths and sat on my desk. Not even 15 minutes after checking my e-mails, I feel goosebumps all over my body.

The stares. Why do I feel like someone is looking at me? I looked up and saw all the other coworkers staring at me with smiles, and some with... questionable expressions. I didn't even have the time until someone rushed closer to my desk, and I jolted up in response.

"Yo, James, you look so good in that suit!"

"Yes, Mr. Stiles, you are so handsome today, you know that?"

I'm flustered by these sudden praises, and then the dream came to mind. "Shit, it's true!?" I immediately walked back as the coworkers became a bit more... intense.

"Will go out with me tonight!?"

"Hey, not fair, I said hi to him first, Patricia!"

"Shut up, George. You lost your moment!"

They start having arguments, looking at me as if I am a reward ready for the picking. I slowly approach the exit and the door to my boss' office opened. "What are you guys doing!? Get back to work, or I'll fire you all!"

I relaxed a bit, but I realized that was a mistake. My boss approached me after saying that, "He's my beloved employee, and clearly he should be mine!" I decided to rush out of the office and I immediately heard a stampede behind me, chasing right after me.

I rushed into my car and I drove away from the office, straight to the office cabin. I'm glad the street was empty at first, but then I realized everyone running out of their houses, chasing me on foot as well as using their vehicles. I can hear chants of, "James, James, be mine! We love you!"

"What kind of blessing is this!?" I gripped my steering wheel, driving faster and faster, hoping to reach the town outskirts. However, I had to hit the brakes when I see a police barricade.

"Stop your car! Hands up where I can see them, or we will shoot!" The officer with the megaphone said. Who in the world called the police!? I stepped out with my hands up, looking back in panic. "Easy, officer! You have to understand, I did nothing wrong! You have to let me through. This sounds crazy, but the people behind me are getting closer and-"

It was too quiet. When I looked back at the officers, I see them kneeling, offering rings. "We will protect you! Come, our love, be ours and you will be safe with us! MARRY US!"

"Son of a bitch, this stupid curse!" I rushed back into the car, and rushed past that gap between the police cars. The officers too busy proposing, that they inadvertently let me pass.

I don't know how, but I reached the forest entrance. I decided to hide my car, and walked on foot towards the forest cabin. As soon as I reached it, I barricaded the door, and closed all the curtains. I double-checked the generator and placed the canned food, glad that I prepped a bit beforehand. The wait begins...

.......................

Seven days later...

I woke up, and I felt different. "I did it! Seven days! Woooo!" While the forest cabin is quite a cozy place to live with some electronics, I want to breathe the fresh air so badly. Knowing that the curse is over, I frantically removed the barricade and opened the door.

I laughed as I see the sunlight, and breathe in the fresh air. However, not long after, I saw a lumberjack walking towards me. "Hello, handsome. What brings you to this forest?"

Apparently, I forgot that my phone's clock is 5 minutes early. Well, at the very least, Derek clicks really well with me. Since the curse got lifted soon after that first encounter, it was only able to pull Derek towards the forest cabin.

We talked a lot that night, and he accompanied me back to my apartment. Everyone else seems to forget what they did that day, and I'm glad my room is left untouched.

It was a crazy week, and I wanted to blame whoever gave me the "blessing." However, on the other hand, I ended up meeting my soulmate. I chuckled as we walked down the aisle. "What's wrong, love?" Derek said. I laughed, "Remember that curse story I told you about? Still crazy that this happens at the end of it."
