The pelican
it was a lovely day at the seaside this Monday . Nice and quiet ( all the humans were at work ) . The pelicans yawned and streched their wings as they watched the rest of the dragons fly off to their nests on fish & chip shop roofs. The dragons here were no bigger than cats and never dared to attack the pelicans, all they did was screech over polystyrene fish boxes and eat the crabs on the sand before the pelicans woke up at Dawn. A large bird woke up and saw that the beach was almost empty of food. His stomach rumbled for a big breakfast but there was none except a few crab legs and a few young dragons. He took off to see what he could get before the others.
He flew across the beach, scanning it for a decent breakfast. The pelicans eyes settled on a roughly 2-year old blue dragon, about the size of a small dog. He flew closer for a better look at this potential prey. It looked like it would go down in a few gulps. He then dived down on the creature who was digging for crabs. The pelican grabed it's head in his beak and threw his head back, sending the startled and somewhat confused dragon tumbling into his pouch, leaving only a few inches of tail dangling out. He flew off to search for a place to devour his prey.
He found a pole to stand on and went on it. The struggles in his Pouch amused him so he decided to relax for a bit and let it weaken itself.
He finAlly decided to swallow his prey. He stood up and tilted his head back. This just made the breakfast scrabble around more and it fell headfirst down the pelicans throat. It took him a while to get the tail poking out in because it kept wrapping itself round his beak. He managed to pull it in with his tongue and snaP his beak shut. His break fast gave a pathetic squeal as he gave one massive gulP and sent his breakfast down into his awaiting stomach. It bulged quite a bit though. He was now too heavy to fly anywhere so he just had to lie down and wait for his meal to be digested and he could fly. The entire breakfast could be digested in a couple of hours. He let out a big burp. He began digesting breakfast and wondered what he might have for dinner as his breakfasts struggles began to fade , along with the bulge in his stomach.
