A Snep of Ice and Fire

A holiday up in the mountains is always pretty magical, but it is also incredibly cold. A fennec fox just isn't properly suited for such conditions, but thankfully for him that might be about to change.

Commission for reyfar

It was cold in the mountains. Very cold. But then, that was largely the point, Reyfar reminded himself as he pulled his thick jacket a little closer to his body. The wind was biting, cutting through his fur every time he stepped out of the small cabin that was home for a couple of weeks. The fennec fox was not suited to the cold conditions at all. That wasn’t to say he wasn’t enjoying himself, but he could have certainly preferred feeling a lot warmer.

Reyfar held his gloved hand up in greeting as he saw a few of his friends making their way up the small trail. They moved slowly, with the steep slope quite treacherous in the snow. No one wanted to ruin their holiday as soon as it had started with a clumsy tumble down the mountainside.

The four had been good friends for many years, and had been through a lot together. They had never before been on a holiday like this though, and it had been planned for months. Reyfar had not been the one to choose the location, something that he was regretting slightly. He would have preferred a more tropical environment, with endless golden beaches and crystal clear waters. Instead they were high up in the mountains, forced to trudge through white snow.

At least the night sky was pretty. Reyfar had never seen so many stars before. They glimmered and gleamed against the pitch black sky behind, all gathered together in patterns that ancient astronomers had once used for navigation. But there was more to it than that. This high up, with the air so clear, Reyfar could see the beauty of the entire galaxy stretched out across the sky in a brilliant display of white and red. The fennec hadn’t even realised the night sky could be displayed in such incredible colours, but he often found his eyes drawn upwards to witness the immense wonder.

A hand slapped against Reyfar’s shoulder. “Lost again, are you?”

Reyfar blinked as he became aware of his surroundings again. Frankie the wolf was the one with his hand on the fennec’s shoulder, while Alex and Philip the fox twins grinned from a little further back.

“Come on, let’s get inside before we catch a cold,” Frankie said, slapping the fennec on the shoulder again.

Reyfar gazed wistfully up for another brief moment, before turning in the snow. He followed the wolf towards the cabin and gratefully stepped inside to the warmth. A fire was already blazing in the fireplace, spreading warmth through the main room. The single sofa and several armchairs were well-padded with thick cushions, and the carpet was soft and warm beneath their feet as they kicked their snow-laded shoes off.

The heavy packs the foxes and wolf carried were soon emptied out. Alcohol took up most of their supplies, but there was some food squeezed in amongst the bottles of beer. It was all the ingredients the four needed for an incredible week.

Once everything was put away, the first of the beers were pulled from their cartons and handed around. Snacks of crisps and jerky were plated up and placed on the table in the cosy main room, with the fennec quickly taking the closest chair to the blazing fire. None of the others seemed so bothered with the cold, and Alex and Phillip had even taken off their jackets. Frankie had unzipped his, but Reyfar still stayed bundled up as much as he could. His bare feet felt icy cold.

In the presence of the fire, Reyfar slowly started to warm up, but he still didn’t get to the stage of feeling comfortable enough to take off his jacket, unlike Frankie. The wolf had quickly taken his off once he got started in his beer, tossing it over next to the growing pile where the foxes had dropped theirs.

Reyfar didn’t participate too much in the loud conversations that stretched on out into the deepening night. He was happy to just sit back near the crackling fire and listen to his three friends talk. Every now and then his eyes were drawn to the fire, and occasionally he knelt down in front of it to add another bit of dry wood to keep it fuelled. The flickering flames were almost hypnotic, and it took a lot of effort to wrench his eyes away from the blaze, or else he’d be sat there staring into it for all of the night.

With Reyfar looked after the fire, Frankie was largely responsible for keeping food and drinks replenished. The wolf got up and did a quick check to see who needed a new beer, with Alex quickly draining the last of his bottle as the wolf meandered back to the small kitchen.

“Enjoying the fire there,” Phillip said with a smirk. He raised his half-empty beer bottle towards the fennec.

Reyfar nodded as he stretched his feet out closer to the flames. The heat washed over his legs, warming him that little bit more. The beer in his belly warmed the rest of him. “Fire is beautiful,” the fennec said with a small smile.

Phillip turned to Alex and laughed. “If the cabin burns down overnight, we know who did it,” he said to his brother.

“I’m not going to burn it down,” Reyfar protested. He lay back on the chair, draped over the two arms. His head tilted backwards so that he looked at the two foxes upside down. “I just think it looks pretty.”

“Uh huh, that’s what they all say,” Alex replied. The fox stuck his tongue out at the fennec. “Next thing you know, everything is on fire.”

Reyfar stuck his tongue out back at the smirking foxes. His tail flicked up as he slowly hauled himself back up to a sitting position in the chair, as he had seen Frankie’s legs emerging from the kitchen again. The wolf handed the foxes their drinks first, before he came to stand behind Reyfar’s chair. For a moment, the fennec thought the wolf had come over just to look into the fire as well, but then he felt the wolf’s hands over his ears.

Like a button had been pressed, Reyfar’s head immediately dropped forward as Frankie gently rubbed over both ears. He let out a few gasping purrs, eyes closed as almost every thought was chased out of his mind by the incredible sensation of the gentle rubs. His muzzle and toes twitched a little, but otherwise he didn’t move at all.

Reyfar was vaguely aware of some more giggles coming from the foxes, but he was completely powerless to move. Tingles of electric pleasure ran down his neck and spine, and he let out a little yip as the fingers moved down a little further, rubbing firmer. They swirled around in small circles, making his whole body tremble.

Then the fingers stopped and Reyfar’s eyes blinked open. His head slowly lifted, and he felt a little blush burning at his cheeks beneath his fur. A new bottle of beer was pressed into his hand, and his fingers tightened enough to grip hold of it without spilling it.

“Enjoyed that, did you?” Frankie asked, though Reyfar was sure the wolf already knew the answer. Instead of rubbing his ears, the wolf’s hands stroked down the fennec’s shoulders and sides as Frankie walked around the side of the chair, before perching on the armrest. He sat there for a few moments, before draping himself over Reyfar’s lap. The wolf’s tail swished as he grinned up at the stammering fennec. “Roll of quarters in your pocket?”

“No, that’s not what...” Reyfar blustered, but he was silenced by a finger on his muzzle.

“Relax,” Frankie said. He gently stroked over Reyfar’s chest, tugging down at the zipper of the jacket the fennec still wore. “We’ve all seen each other naked anyway. Nothing to worry about.”

“That’s not the point,” Reyfar said, a little squeak coming into his voice. His ears flicked as he squirmed his hips, trying to make it so his semi-erection wasn’t pressing into Frankie as the wolf sat down on his lap. He wasn’t able to do it, but the wolf didn’t seem to mind at all.

“After all, those ears are so much fun to play with,” Frankie said with a grin, reaching up to gently rub the closest one again.

Again, Reyfar’s protests descended into a helpless purr as the wolf played with his ears. He couldn’t bring himself to worry about the reaction in his crotch. All that mattered was the rubs over his ears and the tingles of pleasure the act sent running through his body. The fur on the tip of his tail frizzed up in response, and the fennec’s head slowly drooped down to the side to make it easier for Frankie to rub.

After a few minutes that felt like it dragged on forever for the fennec, Frankie’s hand dropped away again. Reyfar blinked a couple of times, and slowly lifted his beer up so he could take a couple of sips. The wolf didn’t move from his lap though, instead starting up the conversation he had been engaged in with the foxes from where he was draped across the fennec.

Soon, it was almost like there had been no distraction at all. Reyfar’s jacket was unzipped, and his lap was occupied by Frankie, but the conversations continued as normal. Alex was the next one to get up to get new drinks, just so the wolf didn’t have to move. No one even mentioned Reyfar’s erection, though Frankie did occasionally rub the fennec’s ears just to make him squirm and stiffen up again.

When they eventually decided to call it a night, Frankie reluctantly rolled off Reyfar’s lap, before holding out his hand to help the fennec out of the chair. Reyfar stretched out his legs as he rose to his feet. The wolf took the opportunity to quickly give the fennec a grope. Frankie then waved goodnight before Reyfar could even finish spluttering out his indignant response. His sensitive ears could easily pick up the giggles coming from the two foxes.

The cabin had four bedrooms. They weren’t very large, but no one planned on spending much time in their bedrooms. After putting out the fire, Reyfar slipped through the darkness and closed his bedroom door behind him. He opened the curtains so he could see what he was doing in the moonlight streaming in from outside. Light gleamed off the snow, providing a beautiful wintery landscape to gaze upon. For a few minutes, the fennec just sat on the edge of his bed and looked outside. A soft smile was on his muzzle as he drank in the natural beauty, but it wasn’t long before the chilly air started to return now that it wasn’t held away by the fire. He quickly changed into his sleepwear and slunk in between the thick covers that draped over his bed. Still with the curtains open so he could see the moonlight, the fennec slowly started to drift off to sleep. It had been a good first day of their holiday.

***

Reyfar regretted leaving the curtains open in the morning. The sunlight streamed right in through his window, waking him up barely after sunrise. The rest of the cabin was completely silent as the fennec crawled out of bed and put on some warm clothes. He made his way through into the bathroom so he could have a steamy hot shower. Once dried, he went into the kitchen. He quietly put into the bin the empty beer bottles that had been left on the counters. He flicked on the kettle and waited for it to boil so he could make himself some coffee.

Once it was prepared, he made his way outside so he could look out over the mountainside. With his coffee clasped in both hands to keep them warm, he sat on the porch and just admired the view. The sky was a perfect pristine blue, with barely a cloud to blemish it. Fresh snow had fallen overnight, wiping away the tracks they had made the previous day bringing their supplies to the little cabin. It wasn’t enough snow to isolate them, and a blizzard wasn’t forecast for their time in the mountains.

As he woke up a little more, some noises could be heard from inside the cabin as the others began to rouse themselves. Phillip was the first to come outside, a cup of coffee in his hand as well. His fur was still bedraggled and messy. He only grunted a quick good morning to Reyfar before he flopped down in one of the available seats.

Alex came out a few minutes later. The other fox looked much more presentable, though his fur was still a little wet from the shower he had clearly just stepped out of. He also waved in greeting to Reyfar, before sitting down beside his brother.

Frankie took a while longer to come out, but the reason for his delay was obvious. The delightful smell of bacon and eggs wafted out from inside the cabin long before the wolf made his appearance, and he had several large plates of breakfast prepared when he finally came outside. There was more than enough food for all four of them, and they were able to eat until they were all full. The leftovers were kept so they could have some bacon and egg sandwiches for their lunch.

“What’s the plan for today?” Reyfar asked, once they had finished their breakfast.

Alex and Phillip both shrugged, but Frankie spoke up. “Thought we were going to the Silverdown Caves?” the wolf said. He tapped his claws against the snow-laden wooden table on the porch. “They’ve got that wishing well there, which I wanted to see.”

“Isn’t there quite a long walk for that?” Phillip asked. He rubbed his hand through his fur, trying to smooth it down a little.

“Good job it’s still early then, isn’t it?” Frankie said with a grin. “Means we have plenty of time to get there and back again before it starts getting dark.”

With a clap of his hands, Frankie started to force the foxes into action. Phillip was chased into the shower, while Frankie and Reyfar prepared a lunch for them to carry with them. They also remembered to pack plenty of water too. Though there was plenty of snow around, they didn’t want to resort to such measures if they could help it.

It was a long walk to the caves, but a beautiful one. The path rose up and down along the side of the mountains, and was wide enough that they didn’t need to worry too much about plummeting down the steep cliffs. Handrails and artificial steps were present during the more challenging parts of the walk to make things a little easier as well. What couldn’t be helped was the cold. The wind was biting, and even though he had worn two jackets to help protect himself, Reyfar still felt absolutely frozen. His gloves didn’t feel like they were doing anything at all, and his hands were jammed in his pockets as often as he could, though sometimes they were needed to grab hold of a railing.

No one else was using the paths. They had come out of the usual tourist season, partly to experience the cold winter weather and snow, but also to avoid the massive crowds that tended to swarm upon the mountains in the busier ski seasons.

Following the guide of Phillip and his phone, the group eventually made it to the caves. A number of other paths converged upon the small plateau, arriving from various other tourist destinations across the mountains. Most were from ski resorts, and were likewise just as empty of people. Deeper on the plateau, away from the cliffs that plummeted down the mountains, was the entrance to the caves. A few stalactites of ice hung down from the roof of the cavemouth.

“Come on, let’s give it a look, shall we?” Frankie said, bounding ahead of the foxes and the fennec.

“We’re not going to stop for lunch first?” Phillip asked.

Frankie shook his head. “Nah, too soon for that. We can find somewhere to sit down inside. Get out of the wind before Reyfar turns into an icicle.”

Reyfar was glad for the suggestion, and he was second into the caves after the wolf. The biting wind was immediately quelled, and the air felt that little bit warmer inside the cave because of it, despite no longer being in the sunlight.

The rock walls of the cave were almost white, and they were kept lit by small strips of electric lighting. The floor was well worn beneath their feet from the thousands of tourists the caves got each year. But for the light dusting of snow at the cave mouth, everything was dry inside, though Reyfar could hear the gentle drip of water from deeper within the caves.

The two foxes hung back a little as Frankie and Reyfar walked on ahead. The wolf was in awe, and he pointed out all the different formations in the rock. He didn’t stop talking or squealing in delight, especially when they reached the famous chimney after about ten minutes into the walk. The wolf craned his neck to look up the massive circular hole that disappeared far up the rock, a purely natural formation over thousands of years of rainfall carving its way through the rock.

That was not the biggest and most well known feature of the caves though. The narrow passages opened out into a massive chamber, which provided the source of the gentle drip of water Reyfar had heard from the entrance to the cave. A pool of water took up most of the chamber. It was shallow and almost crystal clear, with barely a ripple to blemish its surface, except for when a drip of water dropped down from the ceiling. All around the pool were several massive pillars of ice. The air didn’t feel cold enough for ice to remain frozen, and the two foxes had in fact unzipped their jackets, but they were certainly ice, and not stalactites of minerals and water. They were said to be magic, and the pillars granted wishes to those who desired them. It was for that reason that the clear pool was filled with coins and other offerings.

“It’s beautiful, isn’t it?” Frankie asked in wonder. He grinned and looked around at the massive cave, arms wide as he spun on the spot. “And just think, we’re the only ones here. Didn’t I tell you this would be the best time to come?”

“Yeah yeah, you did,” Phillip said, stepping forward to look down into the pool. “Everyone got a coin to toss in?”

“For what good it will do, sure,” Alex said. He flicked a single copper coin into the water. It landed with a splash and sunk down to the bottom, where it rested with the myriad of other coins in various state of disrepair. Some looked like they had been in the water for many decades.

Frankie rolled his eyes at the lack of enthusiasm from the fox as he threw in a few coins of his own. Reyfar rummaged through his pockets and fished out a couple of silver coins. He held them in his palm, feeling the bitter chill from the metal even through his gloves. He knew what his wish was going to be. He wished to be warm.

The fennec tossed the coin into the pool.

Nothing happened but the coin splashing into the water.

“What did you all wish for?” Phillip asked.

“You can’t say what you wished for, or it won’t come true,” Frankie quickly said.

Alex ignored the wolf’s protestation. “I wished to see Reyfar lick one of the icicles,” the fox said with a giggle. He elbowed his brother and shared a mischievous grin.

“Oh, I did that too,” Phillip said with an eager nod. “If two of us did it, that should be strong enough to make it real, don’t you think?”

“What? No!” Reyfar protested, but the two foxes quickly stepped forward, one either side of him. They grabbed hold of his arms to stop him escaping, and gave a quick pull forward towards the closest of the massive icicles that hung down from the ceiling. The fennec glanced back at Frankie, hoping for a rescue, but the wolf just grinned widely. “Come on, don’t make me do that.”

“Come on, what’s the harm in it?” Phillip said, coaxing the fennec on.

“It will be fun,” his brother added.

The two foxes held Reyfar in front of the pillar of ice. The fennec could smell it. There was a faint metallic tang to the scent, which was unusual for ice. He didn’t want to do it, but he doubted the foxes would let him go until he had done it. What harm could it do, after all? He leaned forward and pressed his nose against the icicle for a moment, but that wasn’t enough for the foxes.

“Go on, lick it,” Phillip encouraged.

Reyfar wrinkled his nose, before extending his tongue out to lick at the icicle. The moment he did so, he felt a strange spark of electricity pass through his body, and he tried to pull back. A tug of pain at his tongue warned him that he couldn’t. “I’m stuck!” he cried out, his voice muffled slightly as he couldn’t move his tongue.

“What do you mean, stuck?” Alex asked.

From somewhere behind the fennec, Frankie giggled. “That’s what you get for licking ice.” The wolf’s hand rested on Reyfar’s shoulder.

“Can you help me get off?” the fennec asked, struggling to get the words out properly. He wasn’t even sure if the others understood him properly for a few moments. All three backed away, and even his sensitive ears couldn’t quite make out what they whispered to each other.

Reyfar tried to pull his tongue free from the ice, but it felt like it was stuck fast. He couldn’t move it at all, no matter how hard he tugged. In the uneven light of the cave, the back of his hand seemed to have a silvery sheen to it. He didn’t worry about that yet, instead shifting his feet so he could get a better angle to pull back on.

The fennec wasn’t given the chance to try pulling back again, before he felt someone’s hands on his hips. He couldn’t be sure who it was, as he couldn’t turn his head far enough to look behind him. They felt slim though, so he assumed it was one of the foxes.

Frankie’s voice whispered in his ear. “We can help you get off, sure.”

“Wha-?” Reyfar asked, before he felt the hands on his hips quickly slip inside the waistband of his pants. They were quickly tugged down, and the cold air cut through his exposed fur in an instant. “Ah, not like that.”

“Sorry, didn’t catch that,” Alex said with a giggle that told Reyfar the fox had perfectly understood him. A pair of warm hands pressed over the fennec’s rump, hidden only by his underwear. The other fox coaxed Reyfar’s feet out of his shoes and freed him fully of his pants.

“Is his fur getting lighter as well?” Phillip asked from somewhere behind his brother.

Reyfar rested his hands on the icicle just beneath his trapped tongue. His fur did look strange to his eyes, but he was sure that was just the reflected light inside the cave. He tried to push again on the icicle, but his tongue just would not budge. It stretched a little, but he was forced to stop as it became painful.

A hand brushed through the fur of his tail. “It’s getting thicker,” Alex said. He brushed up and down the full length of the fennec’s tail, fingers exploring a little too close to the base for Reyfar’s comfort. “Are these spots forming?”

Reyfar couldn’t see what the fox was referring to, but he could feel hands down his underwear, slowly starting to slide them down. Heat burned in the fennec’s cheeks, with the warmth spreading all over his head and neck, even as it was chased away from his exposed legs. One hand stroked up his tail. Two tucked into his underwear, and another two started to rub over his ears. Though he tried to focus still, he couldn’t help but relax from the ear rubs. His head leaned forward into the icicle as he closed his eyes, a little purr rumbling in his throat. The sensation still felt strange though. There was something different about the feeling in his ears, like the tips were a little closer to his head than usual.

When he opened his eyes again, there was no denying that his fur was changing. Instead of the usual light brown, his hands were almost white with a silvery sheen, and small splotches of black were starting to spread and get bigger. The fur was thicker and his fingers bigger than before, making his hands look drastically oversized for his arms, but the changes were begin to spread further down his limbs.

“These are getting smaller too,” Frankie said, his hands still rubbing Reyfar’s ears, but they were getting much less sensitive. They no longer sent pulses of pleasure rippling through his head, almost paralysing him with the tingling sensations. It still felt nice, but it felt little different to a stroke across his shoulders or down his sides. He tried flicking his ears, but the wolf’s hands were still squeezing around them.

“What did you wish for?” Phillip asked. Reyfar was sure it was that fox’s hands in his underwear, and slowly they were pulled down.

Reyfar didn’t have chance to answer or protest before he was stripped completely nude beneath the waist. His sheath and balls were fully exposed, but thankfully it was only the four of them present, and there were no more sounds coming from either way in the caves. They were all by themselves.

The other fox’s hand moved from his tail to cup over his balls. The fennec squawked in surprise and tried to squirm away, but with his tongue still firmly stuck to the icicle he could only shuffle a few paces away. The hand quickly returned and started to gently rub.

“What’s the matter?” Alex asked. Reyfar could hear the smirk in his voice. “You said you wanted us to get you off.”

Reyfar squirmed as the heat in his cheeks and head started to spread down his neck. Everything felt warm, even his legs again, despite the chill air that surrounded them. Something strange was definitely happening to him, but Reyfar just couldn’t place what it was yet. His silver furred hands gripped around the icicle as one of the fox’s kept playing with his balls, before the fingers moved to tease at his sheath.

As a result of all the teasing and stroking, Reyfar was already partially erect, his cock slipping from his sheath. That got a few giggles from the foxes behind him, and someone’s fingers brushed over his length a few times. Even that felt a little odd, with an unusual burst of pleasure coming from towards the tip, while it had always been the base around what would swell up into the knot being the more sensitive area usually. He couldn’t look down to see, as his stuck tongue gave him too little movement.

His tail swished around as one of the foxes released it. He tried to curl it around his body so he could see it, which was normally something he was unable to do. To his surprise, he could see it. A thick tip of black busy fur swung into the corner of his vision, most unlike the small, thin brown tail he used to have. Distracted by the rubs to his ears and cock, he wasn’t able to fully process what he was seeing, but an explanation was starting to bubble up from the depths of his subconscious.

He wasn’t given chance to think on it, as one of the foxes squeezed around his cock again. The fingers gripped a little tighter as they reached between his legs to gently stroke his stiffening cock. He couldn’t help but let out a little groan as the pleasurable sensations shifted from his ears to his crotch. He could barely even feel the fingers rubbing in circles over his ears, though he was sure Frankie was still there.

“He’s liking this, isn’t he?” Alex said with a giggle. His hands stroked over the thick bushy tail that was gently swishing behind the changing fennec. His legs had gotten a little larger, and were covered in a layer of thick silver fur that insulated him from the cold much better than his thin brown fur had. His jackets were getting uncomfortably hot, but his hands were still gripped around the icicle. His breath came out in heavy pants, and a few drops of water were starting to pool around his fingers as the ice gradually melted.

Two hands wrapped around Reyfar’s cock. Both felt like left hands, and a new blush burned at his cheeks as he realised both foxes were starting to stroke him off. The familiar tightness of his knot swelling wasn’t present. Instead sensation was centred at small points all down his shaft, focused particularly around his tapered tip. Another hand gently rubbed and strokes his balls, teasing them between delicate fingers.

Reyfar wasn’t sure how long he could hold himself back. His body burned with heat, and the clothes he still wore felt tight around his chest and shoulders. He panted and closed his eyes, leaning his head against the icicle as he felt pre dribbling down from his cock. His hips gently thrusted forward, a motion that drew further giggles from the pair of foxes. He twitched his ears, a much smaller motion, which no longer had Frankie rubbing them. They felt diminished and numb, as well as being closer to his head.

“Nearly there, snep boy,” Alex teased. The foxes started to stroke a little faster.

Reyfar let off a low moan as he curled his toes against the rocky ground. He didn’t even notice what they had called him. His rough tongue shifted slightly against the ice, but didn’t pull free completely as he leaned further into it. His arms almost hugged the icicle as his tail arched up, desperate to feel the last few strokes from the foxes.

The foxes obliged. They didn’t slow down at all as Reyfar felt the curious new sensations radiating out from his crotch. There was no tight swelling of his knot. Instead his whole shaft felt much smoother, but for a few nubs of pure pleasure when fingers brushed over them. They were mostly situated close to his tip, and each one made him yowl and yip in delight.

Reyfar’s pants became louder and quicker, before they finally reached a cried out crescendo of pleasure. His feet stamped down against the ground a couple of times, and he thrust his hips forward into the foxes’ eager hands. His cum splashed against the ice with a few powerful spurts. At the same time, his tongue was finally freed from the icicle, and he was able pull his head back at last. It didn’t last long, as moments later he pressed his forehead against the icicle for support. His arms trembled as the foxes gave him a few more strokes to dribble out the last few drips of cum. Their hands then returned to stroke over his thighs and tail, before they stepped back fully.

After he gave himself a few moments to recover, Reyfar pushed himself away from the icicle. He held his hands out in front of him and stared in shock and awe. He was covered in thick, silvery fur with blotches of black in no particular pattern covering his arms. His legs were the same, and he wiggled his toes a couple of times to make sure that they were indeed his. His tail was thick and fluffy, and his snow white chest fur puffed out of the collar of his jacket.

Reyfar unzipped his jackets and pulled the top one off. It was uncomfortably warm with his new, thick fur covering. He twitched his muzzle and felt over his ears with one hand. Gone were the usual pointed ears that stretched up several inches above his head. Instead he had rounded little nubs without any of the sensitivity of before. He turned to his friends, who were looking at him with a mixture of excitement, fascination, and awe.

“What did you wish for?” Phillip asked again. The fox’s eyes were wide. His brother crouched down to pick up Reyfar’s discarded clothes.

“I wished to be warmer,” Reyfar said nervously. He accepted his clothes back again from Alex and started to get dressed again. His pants were quite tight around his bigger legs, but he was able to get himself decent again.

Frankie barked out with laughter. “Well, a snow leopard doesn’t get cold in weather like this. Looks like you got your wish.”

“I’m a snow leopard?” Reyfar squeaked. Though his voice had gone a little deeper with the change, it returned up to its previous pitch in his surprise. “I didn’t know this place really had magic like that.”

“Nor did I,” Frankie replied. He stuck his tongue out, then stepped up closer to the newly transformed snow leopard. “But you look particularly dashing. Come on, let’s see what you look like in the light.”

A nervous smile spread across Reyfar’s muzzle. His body felt weirdly thick and slow when he moved, but Frankie had certainly been right. Snow leopards didn’t feel the cold. Even though he could feel the wind ruffling through his exposed fur, it didn’t chill him at all. He felt almost like he had been wrapped up in a dozen warm blankets in front of a fireplace. Cold meant nothing to him now.

“Go on,” the snow leopard said, waving his hand towards the tunnels leading back up to the surface. “I’ll catch you up.”

The two foxes and the wolf cackled to themselves as they left Reyfar on his own. The new snow leopard prowled around the pools, looking for any evidence that there had been others who had had their wishes granted to them, but he couldn’t see anything. No little notes or scratched carvings in the rock. He hadn’t really expected anything. He shrugged his shoulders and turned to leave, before he placed his hand on one of the icicles. His other hand delved into his pocket and pulled out all the coins his grasping fingers could find.

Reyfar glanced up towards the ceiling of the cave. “Thank you,” he said, not sure if he was talking to anyone in particular. He tossed his handful of coins into the water, and then hurried to chase after his friends again. He was really going to enjoy his time in the mountains now.

This really was going to be an amazing holiday for them all. Reyfar couldn’t wait to see what other surprises had for them.
