Red Claw's Rhyme
While lying down to sleep, I left on Pumpkinhead (1988). Enthralled by the eponymous creature's nursery rhyme, I invented my own for a dangerous but sympathetic character who emerges in the second of my 'Hejira' books, Sanguine Wave. It will also appear in an edited chapter, when I find the time.

Red Claw's Rhyme
(11/09/2018)
Prowling in a moonlit night,
A beast who causes quite a fright,
Always he is hunting prey,
Suffering is here today,
Chilling wind is blowing through,
Bodies turn a pale blue,
Human blood drains in the sand,
Sahvorai fleeing from their land,
Fallen curled in a ball,
Even the madrogos fall,
Nothing known can stop the beast,
In purple fire your flesh he'll feast,
Children hide under their beds,
Blankets pulled over their heads,
You will know when you are dead,
When you see the claw of Red.
