Sick as a Dog (WIFWOLF)
A man gets sick and his werewolf wife tries to comfort him.
~1,500 words
>"A man ambushed in the middle of the woods by a beast who want to turn him into a ghastly human/wolf hybrid like herself? And the man managing to fight her off with nothing more than a brittle bone and a few harsh words? Could this story be true?" The bearded man on the television cocks his head and smiles at the camera. "This furry tale was a work of total fabrication, our team of writers made it up. Now join us next time on Lifting the Veil, where we blur the line between fact…and fiction."
>"Ah-ah-ACHOO!" My violent sneeze echoes through the living room
>I lean over the couch and pick up another box of tissues, wiping my nose before leaning back with a groan
>I feel awful
>Worse than awful
>It feels like every cell in my body is rebelling against me yet all I can do is try to keep food down and wait it out
>As the commercial break continues I curl up in my blanket and look to the opposite side of the couch
>There, safely seated several feet away from me, is my wife
>She casually sips on a steamy cup of tea, eyes locked onto my makeshift cocoon
>"Want some more herbal tea? Still stuffed up?"
>I look to her and weakly shake my head in an affirmative, her tea managed to be one of the few things that could clear my sinuses
>Pills, long steamy showers, nasal sprays, they all proved useless in clearing my poor nose
>That is until she gave me a cup of some traditional home remedy she made a couple days ago
>That single drink managed to clear my sinuses so well that the only real thing I can compare it to is when Moses parted the sea
>And so she had been making it for me once a day ever since I caught the flu, dutifully looking out for me as I suffer through the process of recovery
>She soon returns with a cup of steaming liquid held in her hand
>She approaches my position on the couch but I have to put a hand out to stop her
>"Don't come any closer Anna! I don't want you to catch whatever I have. Just set it down on the middle of the couch."
>She shoots me a pitiful look and sets it down where I indicated, I lean over and retrieve it
>All it takes is a single sip and bam! I can finally breathe again
>I take a few more sips before turning to Anna
>"What do you put in this stuff anyway? It's works miracles."
>"Let's just put it this way, you wouldn't be drinking it so happily if you had your taste buds working." She says with a subtle smirk
>"Oh. Guess I should be happy my sense of taste is gone then. Gotta look on the bright side."
>"You want something to eat? Some chicken noodle soup?" She offers
>"Nah. I'm not hungry."
>"Oh come on! You've barely had anything to eat today besides a bowl of oatmeal and a candy bar. And you didn't even finish the candy bar!"
>"I'll live." I say, retreating back into my cocoon of blankets.
>She crosses her arms and pouts
>"You know tonight is a full moon Anon. I highly doubt whatever sickness you have will be transmittable to me in Lycan form."
>"So?" I ask, taking a few more sips of tea
>"Well when I turn I'm dragging you out of that pile of blankets and forcing some dinner down your throat. You'll never get better if you don't eat!"
>"You don't know that. Maybe you can still catch whatever I have, it's best not to try and find out." I mutter then take another sip of tea
>"Ya right Anon, the flu isn't transmittable between dogs and humans but it's somehow transmittable between werewolves and humans? Honestly I don't think I could catch even when I'm not all big and furry."
>"Don't say that!" I shout with a pointed finger. “Trust me you definitely don't want what I have!"
>"Uh huh…" She trails off and turns back towards the TV
>After a few more episodes have passed she finally decides to get up and move towards the kitchen
>I thought she just went to make dinner for herself but then I hear cloth tear and bones crack, a soft “Awwoooo" emanates from the kitchen hallway and I know she just turned into her Lycan form
>Sure enough a seven foot tall canine beast soon enters the living room, a bowl of hot soup in her paw
>She approaches and holds it out in front of me
>"Eat." She orders
>"No, get back. You're going to catch what I have." I say and retreat under a blanket
>My cottony fortress is soon ripped apart by a single strong arm, blankets now littering the floor
>A large paw grabs me by the arm and pulls me to my feet
>"You're going to eat this soup whether you like it or not Anon. You need to get better and your body can't fight this thing if it's running on empty."
>"Okay, fine, whatever." I say, allowing her to manhandle me into the kitchen
>She sits me down on a chair then sets the bowl of chicken noodle soup and a spoon in front of me
>"Now eat. I'm not letting you out of that chair until the bowl is empty."
>"God, fine, you're acting like my mother." I say with a groan
>I pick up the spoon and begin sending spoonful after spoonful of soup down the pipe
>If my taste buds were working I'm sure it would be delicious, but unfortunately the whole bowl of soup ends up tasting like a whole lot of nothing
>I finally put the last chunk of chicken and noodles into my mouth and set the spoon down
>"See? Done. Can I go now?"
>Anna gets up and walks over, placing a paw on my forehead
>"Jesus Anon you're burning up."
>"I have a fever? Tell me something I don't know!"
>She licks my face a few times and leans down
>"Alright my little trooper, it's time for you to get some well needed rest."
>"Finally…"
>I manage to get up on shaky legs and begin making my way to the bedroom, Anna helping me remain upright with an arm across my back the entire time
>When we arrive at the bed I plop down and weakly pull the covers around myself, breathing a sigh of relief at how close this well needed sleep is
>But then I feel the bed shake and something heavy land on the mattress
>The covers are pulled from me slightly and a furry arm wraps around my chest, looks like she wants to be the big spoon tonight
>"No Anna, I have a fever. You'll just make it worse."
>"No I won't. I'll keep a paw right here…" She slides her paw to be directly on my chest. “…and if I feel you sweat then I'll back off! Plus this way I get to hear your breathing and feel your heart rate. I'm basically your very own bedside nurse."
>"I don't think that's how that works…but fine. But be sure to move somewhere else before you turn back into a human! Else you'll catch whatever I have."
>"I'll move just before sunrise then. Just in time to make you breakfast. Because you will be eating breakfast tomorrow…" She trails off, point made clear
>"Sounds good Anna. See you tomorrow morning."
>"See you in the morning, I hope you feel better then."
>"So do I…"
>I close my eyes and fall into a deep slumber
*****************************************
>My eyes open to a warm orange light filling the room
>Birds chirp outside, my body slowly wakes up, and-
>Holy shit I can breathe!
>The last time I had her tea was last night, I must be getting better!
>I yawn and feel the furry arm of Anna still wrapped tight around me
>But the sun's right outside! Oh no…
>Her arm twitches then gradually begins to feel less heavy
>Fur grows shorter until only bare skin covered her arm, sharp claws rake against my skin until they were nothing more than dull nails, her fingers grow shorter and instead of heavy muscle I feel much softer flesh
>I roll over and lean up to see Anna in her human form, a few new long black hairs covering our bed
>"Anna? You better get out of here, I could still be contagious."
>She leans up and stretches
>"Stop being such a worry wart. I'll be fine. Now I might as well go start breakf-ah-ah-ACHOO!"
>We both look at each other with the same miserable expression
>We're going to need some more chicken noodle soup…
