Squirrel!?
Imported from SF2 with no description.
Brent had been thinking a lot about his feelings over the past week. The college student studying for a Mechanical Engineer degree is currently staring into space as he finished the brunt of his homework over the spring break. Thoughts about potential volunteer or part-time opportunities, and his potential plans for the future Summer term.
Summer season is just awful for Brent. He despised how hot it can get during his walks, and how easily he can get sick due to the hot-cold treatment between the scorching temperature outside and how the university buildings would blast the poor guy with air conditioners. Why the hell would the university set the temperature that low, anyway?
However, something else trumps over these thoughts. Anders. His best friend since junior high. It took Brent way too long to realize that their interactions felt a bit more... intimate than what the normal bros would be with how close the two are at times. Spring felt a bit awkward with him realizing these signs, of how Brent would stare at Anders a bit too long. The way he reacted inside whenever the day comes to a close as he stepped out of Anders' apartment room or vice versa. The longing feeling that sparks in his mind, not wanting Anders to go just yet. Is he... even sharing the same feelings?
Brent sighed, "Fuck it. Today's the day, might just tell him everything because this shit is killing me inside."
Brent glanced at the pictures on his phone, the photo of him and Anders smiling over the years. The two students who never talked until February that year, the first month into their junior high courses. The teacher had assigned them to work together for a science project for the month, requiring each pair to study the growth of a plant of their choice and report their findings to the whole class.
Luckily for Brent, Anders' father immediately introduced the two to his greenhouse once Anders mentioned about the project. Lo and behold, Brent saw himself helping out Anders and his father that weekend. The two enjoyed themselves as they followed the given instructions and started planting the watermelon seeds, while also taking pictures from time to time for the report.
Once the hard work is done, Anders would invite Brent to hang out in the beautiful garden at the back of his house, and his mother would give the two some snacks and iced tea. (And damn, was that tea the bomb, not overtly sweet as Brent liked and the right temperature for the weather too!) Brent was in awe at the sight and joked at the garden's size when he first entered the garden, and Anders chuckled, saying that the gardening hobby runs strong in his family.
Soon enough, the two realized how much in sync they are with the conversation. They got similar hobbies in video games and horror movies, and even when they have different interest, the conversations would just go on and on like the flowing river with smiles and laughter along the way. In fact, the two laughed even more when they noticed the sunset, completely forgetting how Brent was supposed to be home around that time. Fortunately, Brent's parents were fine with it as they saw their son having the best time of his life with his friend.
The rest of the month was mostly spent strengthening the bond between the two. Since the next steps of the project were mostly observing the plant, Brent and Anders decided to spend their time on either playing games together, doing study group sessions, and/or playing basketball in the garden. Soon enough, the two became close and they would be hanging out with each other from that point in.
A smile sporting on Brent's face as he reminisced those moments. Even now, the two would hang out as much as possible whenever possible, and the only reason Brent is busy doing his work over the break alone in his room is because of the football training camp Anders is having throughout this week. Yes, the big lug is currently on his way to have his first football match with the university located two blocks over, and due to the rivalry, Anders' football coach decided to go all-out to make sure that his team wins. That said...
Brent blinked as he stared at the clock. "Well, shit, almost forgot... Time to go now so I can meet up with Anders as his bus arrives," he murmured. Brent immediately turned off his laptop, locked his apartment door, and walked towards the university's parking lot.
........................
Anders had been feeling antsy throughout this month. The killer study session he had with Brent was definitely helpful for the midterm, but that means he has to stay composed throughout the nights having Brent next to him. He tried his best to act like his usual self in front of Brent, but it's getting harder and harder to keep his composure.
Sure, he got some good sleep and he performed quite well on the midterms because of Brent's godly tutoring skills, but he had hoped for a break with his best friend instead of this boot camp. He can't even get a room all to himself, for fuck's sake! Anders is missing his apartment room badly, wanting to spend the night alone where he gets to be free without any worries of exposing himself. Two weeks back-to-back keeping this need contained is not a good idea for the poor football player, he's just hoping that Anders was not too aggressive over the last training session of the camp.
From the outside, his colleagues would see a fit college student on his way to be the quarterback of the team. Everyone would always be surprised whenever Anders mentioned that he is currently studying for the Chemical Engineering degree. Anders groaned whenever he heard these remarks - playing sports does not mean that he is brain-dead, damn it! It's so nice to be able to hang out with Brent, who just accepts him for who he is.
Anders took a deep breath as he saw his fingers trembling. "Just a bit more... After this bus ride, I can finally..." He grumbled, chanting the same mantra over and over. Anders can't wait to just go back home, lay down a bit on his bed, and maybe go to the nearby park and be wild for the night, maybe toy with the squirrels in the area, and... and...
Brent. It's getting more and more difficult to stay composed in front of his buddy. Is buddy even the right term? Anders was unsure when it first started, but he starts getting addicted to Brent's... scent. His handsome face, his demeanor, his reactions whenever Anders teases him as he lost the video game matches, his... his... MATE.
Anders shook his head, and put his hands on his face. He really got it bad on his best friend. It can't really be helped that he can sniff emotions too, and he's sure that Brent's feelings towards him has changed throughout this term. It's too jumbled to figure out, but that sure did not stop his inner feelings.
"Let's just figure this out tomorrow, after a run in the park with the full moon tonight," Anders thought.
Of course, his train of thought halted as he felt the bus stopping and from the view outside the window next to his seat. He immediately smiled at the sight of Brent waving at him, and grumbled afterwards.
"Please, please, please get it together. Just a few hours with Brent, just a few hours with Brent," Anders chanted in his head as he stood up, grabbed his bag, and walked out of the bus to greet his best friend.
.......................
"Yo, buddy, how's the camp? Enjoying yourself?" Brent smiled brightly at the incoming Anders, balling up his right fist and offering it towards his best friend.
Anders smiled back and fist-bumped the offered hand, "It was tiring, holy fuck, can't wait to go back home and just pass out on my bed."
Brent chuckled awkwardly at that, "Oh, well, actually, can we talk a bit as we walk towards your apartment? I also want to drop off my part of the AutoCAD assignment too."
Anders guffawed, "Ah Brent, you always go crazy on these tasks, I swear! Sure, buddy. Sorry that you can't stay tonight though, I got a feeling I will pass out soon enough."
'Please, please, please don't be offended. I just need to change tonight!' Anders pleaded as he grinned, a bit too widely for comfort.
Brent tried his best from showing disappointment, "O-oh, yeah, sure! I just want to talk a bit, you know? No biggie. I know you just got back from all the training, and uh... Yeah, no worries!"
Too bad for him, Anders immediately smelled that feeling. He frowned, and he was trying to cheer Brent up but he heard whistles coming from the other team players who were watching the two.
"Anders, I swear to fuck, just kiss him already!" Steve, one of team's linebacker, shouted with the rest shouting similar cheers at the two.
Anders blushed, and showed both of his middle fingers at the crowd. "Shut up, all of you," he chuckled.
Soon enough, the coach sighed with a smile, and clapped his hands loudly. "Come on, now, stop bothering other people's privacy and go home, get some rest! Remember, our match is next week!"
Immediately, the whole team laughed and waved at each other as each of them started walking towards their cars or the bus stop. Anders looked back at Brent right after, and saw him blushing. Cute.
"Sorry about that, heh. Anyway, you were saying?" Anders asked, trying to change the topic.
That seemed to snap Brent out of it. "W-what? O-oh, no, it's nothing. Come on, it's already 5 PM. Let's go back before it gets dark, we better get those chocolate milkshakes on the way before the diner closes!" Brent blabbered as he started walking to hide his blush, with Anders chuckling behind his back.
...........................................
The walk back home went smoothly enough. Brent had recovered from the embarrassment, and the best friends are talking as usual with a large cup of chocolate milkshakes on their hands. He took one more look on Anders' happy face, and decided that this is the right moment.
"So, Anders, we've been best friends for... how long now?" Brent questioned.
Anders instinctively cocked his head, internally mocking himself for doing that stupid habit in this form. "Been about... 8 years now, why?" He starts sipping more on his milkshake, hoping that Brent won't notice.
Luckily, Brent's eyes darted everywhere other than the big lug, "W-well, I-I... uh... Fuck it. I-I think I'm in l-l-love with you." As he said so, Brent started to blush even more.
Anders did not expect the confession now, of all times! He forgot all about the milkshake in his mouth, and coughed frantically from the shock. It took about one minute for his stupid throat to calm down with Brent patting his back softly. 'Hmmmm, that touch is just... Wait, not the right time!'
Brent stuttered, "S-sorry! I-I didn't mean to... You OK?"
Surprisingly, Anders chuckled, "N-no, no! It's just... coughs Y-you just beat me to it, a-actually. Brent, I-I... Well... I do share the same feelings..."
The two best friends are frozen with this revelation, the milkshakes completely forgotten. The two smiled at each other, wanting to talk more on how to progress with their relationship, but...
Anders felt that pull, the familiar pull. That doesn't make sense, though, it should be... Fuck! The milkshakes and the confession made him forget everything about the time and his whereabouts. They're in the middle of the dark, and it surely is darker now with the full moon slowly showing itself on the sky.
Brent's brow furrowed as he saw his best friend trembling, and his smile nowhere to be found. "A-Anders? Y-you OK, buddy?"
Anders shook his head frantically, already feeling the strong urge to change even more with the full moon. "W-what? No, no, no. It's just... It's dark now, and I... uh... I better get home now, Brent, really! We can... uh... talk more tomorrow, yeah? I'll see you..."
Brent was about to stop Anders from panicking, but the two jumped as they heard a cracking sound from the nearby bushes close to one of the park benches. Immediately, they saw two squirrels walking out of it, in clear view of the pair.
Brent sighed, "Oh, whew, fucking squirrels. Anyway, Anders, you're really fine, buddy? You..." He didn't get to finish the rest of his sentence over the sight.
Anders seemed to lose all focus. His eyes are focusing on the squirrels, a bit too much for comfort. His fists are clenching, and... is he drooling? Brent was trying to snap his fingers in front of the big lug's face, but he froze as he saw Anders' eyes growing bright yellow.
................
Squirrels!? Fucking squirrels! Let me chase them down, oh goodness! I want to chase them, bark at them, show them who's boss, yeah!
The poor Anders forgot everything about calming down the moment he saw those squirrels. The rush of emotions is a bit too much for him, with his bottled-up feelings on Brent, how he was not able to change over the past few weeks, the full moon, and now the stupid squirrels who always catch his attention even as a human.
Anders kept drooling, sporting a feral grin as he kept staring at the squirrels. He grunted a bit, but he didn't even care as his muscles start bulging and his bones cracking and reshaping. He just can't wait for the joy to chase his prey! Not actually eating them, of course, but it's nice to chase those squirrels silly.
Of course, his changing body forces forces him to crawl on all fours. Still smiling, he felt his teeth growing into fangs, his nails becoming claws, and a snout forming over his face. Anders arched his back in reflex as he felt the final changes with his tail slowly jutting out, and he pointed his new maw at the full moon, letting out a howl.
The werewolf recollected himself after the howl, trying to sort out the pieces. He immediately smelled the strong scent of chocolate coming from the spilled milkshake next to him, and he whimpered in confusion. Wait, milkshake? Anders trembled as he remembered what happened, and he immediately looked back to see... Brent standing in place with his mouth wide open.
"L-look, I can explain, but for now..." Anders immediately charged at Brent, placing his crush on his shoulder and leaped out of the park's pathway, away from the lights.
....................................
'Werewolves aren't real, right? What the fuck?! Anders is one!? This is clearly not CGI, what kind of trick is this? He didn't even give a warning on changing either, come on now!'
Brent only regained his senses as he let out a soft "Oof" as the werewolf tossed him on his shoulder, towards the deeper parts of the park. Anders seems to be carrying him towards the lake, surrounded by the trees yet still allowing for moonlight to shine through, providing some light on the area. As soon as they reached the place, the werewolf placed him gently on the ground.
"So..." Brent started. "You, uh, how long have you been a werewolf, Anders?"
Anders whimpered, looking way calmer than before. "Sorry, Brent. I, uh, d-didn't mean to... Those squirrels..."
Brent scoffed, "Wait a fucking second. You're telling me that werewolves would go crazy over them, just like dogs do!?"
The werewolf growled, "I'm not lying! T-they felt so... ooooh... W-wait until you see Mom or Dad with them! They're just pesky little... creatures that are just so fun to play with!" Anders stuttered, and he wiped the drool from his maw with one of his arms.
Suddenly, Brent laughed, "You're messing with me, aren't you? What? Are you saying you will be crazy when I do..." He picked up a wooden branch and started waving it at Anders, "...this?"
Brent's eyes bulged at the sight. The werewolf suddenly panted eagerly, with his tongue lolling out. Anders is now sitting like a giant dog, and his tail is thumping like crazy on the ground. His yellow eyes are focused entirely on the stick.
"Uuuuuuhhh, buddy?" Brent remarked, stopping the motion.
Anders blinked soon enough. The werewolf growled, but the tail keeps thumping. "S-stop doing that! I-I swear... It's... It's... Look, it's really difficult to control because I didn't change over the past 2 weeks!" He pouted, whining like a dog getting caught on doing something wrong.
'This is just extremely adorable, holy shit,' Brent thought.
"Well... uh... Since I know now, you... don't have to hide from me anymore, you know? That said, though... We better get you some new clothes. You, uh, sure tore them apart." Brent nodded at the tattered varsity jacket and jeans on the werewolf.
Unexpectedly, though, Anders smirked as he sniffed the air. The werewolf approaches the human with a wide grin showing his fangs, "You say that, but... You sure are liking the view, right, babe?"
Well, that hit the mark. Brent's face is now as red as a tomato. "N-no... I... uh... S-shut up! Of course, you can sense emotions, you... you... idiot!"
The werewolf barked at the blushing mess, "Man, it's so nice teasing you, Brent, really! Can't hide anything from me now..." Anders smirked.
"Y-you dick! Fine, you asked for it!" Brent immediately waved the wooden branch once more.
"W-wait! Stop, stop! Noooooooo..." That was all Anders could say before he became an eager mutt in front of the human once more.
After having his fill of laughter, Brent stopped. "As the wolf said earlier, it's so nice teasing you, Anders," he winked.
Anders playfully growled in response, "Oh, it's on now, buddy!" The werewolf pounces on the laughing human, causing them to playfully wrestle on the grass, giggling over the antics.
................
The pair are lying on the grass now, catching their breaths with Brent's right hand holding Anders' left paw.
"So, what now?" Brent asked.
The werewolf cocked his head, "What do you mean?"
Brent immediately moved his body so he would be facing Anders, "You know, us. Before this werewolf thing happened, we did confess our feelings to each other, or did we? You were panicking because of the change..."
Anders laughed softly, "Listen, Brent, I feel the same, really. I was just hoping for some time to sort it all out, you know? We're just lucky that those squirrels showed up at the right time, because I was thinking of showing this form in a couple more months, you know?"
Brent giggled, "Well, now you don't have to hide it anymore, hm? Well, not really hiding it that good, because you did call me... b-babe."
The werewolf started to whine, "O-oh... um... you don't like it?"
Brent shook his head, "No, silly! It's the complete opposite, actually. I... I d-do... like it, it's just... I'm still trying to s-say it myself, you know?"
"Oh? Do try me, BABE, you have to say it now, heh," Anders winked.
Brent stuttered, blushing furiously. "F-fine, Anders, uh, m-my... w-w-wolf." As soon as he said that, Brent immediately faced himself towards the night sky, and hid his face with his hands.
Anders' eyes bulged as well, and his tail is going crazy now. He smiled at the squirming human, "You know what? I like that, babe." The werewolf immediately put his arms over Brent's, enveloping him in a hug.
"I love you, Brent."
"I love you too, Anders."
..................
The following months were a blur after that. The pair thought they would be having issues with revealing their new relationship, but their parents and friends took it in stride. Hell, they saw Anders' father paying Brent's father $10 for losing his bet on when their kids would date each other. The same thing happens with Anders' football team, with Steve getting a whopping $100 for betting that Brent and Anders would be a couple after they say goodbye to each other at the end of the training camp.
Right before the start of Fall term, Brent decided to move into Anders' apartment room. The couple decided to share the master bedroom, so they would have a lot of extra space for their belongings. To the neighbors, they say an adorable couple of two college students, but none of them knew that the room houses two werewolves. Wait, two!?
Turns out, last month, Brent and Anders got into a silly debate. The werewolf, while begrudgingly loving the belly rubs and pets, pouted over Brent's "Who's a good boi? Yes, you are!" statements.
Anders growled as he laid on Brent's lap. "Look, I'm saying, you won't last like me with these strong urges."
"Nuh-uh, I got a feeling I'm way better than you, just like you losing on Tekken over and over!" Brent smirked.
"Oh yeah? Wanna bet?" Anders snarled playfully.
Brent winked in return, "We don't need to bet, I know I-... H-hey!"
The human never finished his sentence as the werewolf bites Brent's right arm, busy hovering on Anders' belly.
Anders winked, "Well, let's see you try, babe. Care to do the laundry if you act up when you see a squirrel?"
Brent stuttered, "W-wait... Y-you... I... Damn it, Anders!"
The werewolf sat up in response, "Look, Brent, you were relentless on making playful jokes on changing you. You keep telling yourself that it's all fun and games, but I know that you were busy asking my parents about the werewolf life, didn't you?"
"Y-y-you knew!? Damn it, I told them not to tell!" Brent groaned.
Anders guffawed as he put his arm over Brent's shoulder. "Oh, they didn't, but I can smell my parents all over you when you got back. I called, and they fessed up, knowing that I would know with my nose, heh."
"Besides, I know your style. It will take you ages to make the proper request, right? Well, this is me agreeing to it." The werewolf embraced Brent, "Oh, and from your parents too!"
Brent chuckled as he hugged Anders, "There really is no hiding from you guys, huh? All right. Thanks, love. Yeah, I wanted to be there with you as much as I can, you know? Love you, Anders."
"Love you too, Brent." The two kissed once more for the day.
And there you have it, two towering werewolves just enjoying the night as they watch horror movies. They were lucky enough that the apartment accepts pets. Brent would lay his head on Anders' lap while giving him some belly rubs, and Anders would do the same after some time passes.
Two sets of howls can be heard in the park during full moon nights. After the change at the park's lake, the couple would run along the park with the trees covering their appearances. The wooden branches would be used as a fetch game between the two werewolves, and soon enough, one can see two giant wolves barking at the squirrels on the trees.
...Yes, Brent lost the bet. Not even 5 seconds, the new werewolf immediately charged at the squirrel with drool dropping from his maw. He did do the laundry the entire month.
