"He... ke up... ome on..."

The words weren't very clear as Aleath slowly woke up, feeling something or someone shaking him lightly. His mind wasn't working well, he felt tired and being there lying on the floor felt good. He just wanted to sleep.

"Come on, kid, wake up already!" a loud voice rang near the otter's ear, making him yelp and sit up suddenly. "Finally..." the voice continued. Aleath looked around, seeing nobody.

"W-who's there?" he asked, thinking why the heck someone just shouted at him and woke him up in the middle of the night. But where did the voice come from?

"Behind you..." the voice said. The confused otter turned around and finally saw where the voice was coming from. It was a dragon; and a big one, for that matter. His deep red scales were all over his body. Or most of it. His lower jaw, down to his neck, bare chest and stomach were shielded by black scales, as well as the underside of his long, thick tail. His wings were folded against his back, and they looked rather big. His deep yellow eyes pierced through Aleath's, with a bit of curiosity.

"What happened to you? You were laying there with your arms tied behind your back." he said, helping the much smaller otter up. Aleath looked up at the dragon and hesitated for a few seconds, noticing they had a size difference of about a foot. It wasn't the first time he saw a dragon, but this one had a more... feral look, maybe because of the massive size and the fact that he was only wearing a pair of dark blue shorts that were slightly ripped, leaving his muscled body almost completely visible.

"Um... uh... I was... tied...?" Aleath stuttered. Suddenly, he remembered. "Where's my brother?" he asked, turning around to see if Foxx was there. Those two couldn't have taken his brother; he was the only family that remained, not to mention that they had a different brother-brother relation.

"Your brother? Sorry, but you were here alone. Though I was wondering who tied you and why you would want to use two very different swords." the dragon replied, pointing at the swords that rested in the hole in the tree.

"The silver blue sword is my brother's." Aleath explained. His voice was shaking lightly. He felt guilty for not being able to save him.

"Thanks for helping me, but I better start..." he stopped talking when the dragon looked down at him, placing his scaled hand on the otter's shoulder.

"You're not going anywhere. You just got ambushed and tied and my guess is that your brother was kidnapped by someone... and I want to know who did it." he said. Aleath furrowed his brow. Why did the dragon want to know who tied him and took Foxx?

"Why do you...?" Aleath started, but was again stopped mid-sentence.

"Did a black husky and a white wolf tie you?" the dragon asked in a deep voice. Aleath blinked in surprise. How could he know that? It wasn't just a coincidence. The dragon could be helping the canines. If that was the case, he would just stab him with... then he remembered that the dagger was near the swords.

"Yeah, how did you know...?" he replied cautiously. If he was indeed working for the canines, there was no telling what he could do.

"I'm looking for them too. We have some... unfinished business..." he explained quietly. Aleath looked at him for some seconds, thinking if he should believe it or not and what kind of 'business' they had.

Noticing that the otter wasn't convinced, the dragon stepped back a bit. He didn't want to fight the otter. In fact, if they were going to look for the same furs, it would be better if the two joined forces.

"My name is Kethean." he said, and extended his scaled hand to the otter. Aleath slowly stuck out his paw and shook the dragon's hand.

"I'm Aleath..."

"I see you still don't trust me... perfectly natural." he sighed and turned around, walking near the tree and getting the weapons then giving them to Aleath. "Here."

Aleath took the weapons and looked at the dragon, feeling confused. It seemed like he wanted to help, but he didn't look trustworthy enough at the same time.

"Ok... uh... so why are you looking for those two...?" he asked, hiding his daggers in places of easy access. He put Foxx's sword on his back and his own on his waist.

Kethean looked at him with those yellow eyes for a few minutes then sighed.

"Well... those two went to my village and killed a lot of people. And since it was a small village where everyone knew everyone..."

Aleath's ears drooped lightly. He glanced around then sat on the forest floor too.

"Sorry, I didn't want to..."

"It's ok. You should know why I'm also after those two." the dragon replied, crossing his legs and gazing into the weak flames that still survived in the small fire Aleath and Foxx did a few hours ago.

"It was a festival day, and the streets were filled with people and small stands with all kinds of things. Games, sweets, you know..." he said, glancing at Aleath with the ghost of a smile on his snout. Aleath nodded with a small smile. He remembered when his own village had those festivals, and he walked with Foxx to almost every stand they saw. Kethean's voice brought him back to reality.

"Everything looked normal; some people entered the village and a few even stayed for the festival. Then, late in the night, a wolf and a husky ran past the gates and started killing whoever crossed their way." he stopped and let out a small hiss. "Since that village was attacked so many times, most of the people always carried a dagger or even a sword."

Aleath blinked a few times and tilted his head. There was something wrong. By what Kethean said, it looked like they could have killed the two intruders, but...

"How come a village didn't kill those two?" he asked.

Kethean gave him a small smile and hesitated.

"Well... those two aren't normal..." he said. Aleath tilted his head.

"What do you mean...?"

"They... know how to use magic." the dragon explained. The otter's eyes widened.

"No, you're lying..." he said. If he knew he and Foxx were chasing furs that knew how to use magic, he would quit and let them be. He didn't want anything with magic; it looked like something no one should mess with.

"Sorry, but I'm not. They set stands on fire and tortured people with their magic. I was away from the village back then, and when I got back, I found out that my parents, along with almost half of the village, were killed. Since then, I've been after those two. I want to kill them and avenge my fallen family." Kethean said, his hand clenching into a fist.

"Oh... sorry about that... it must've been hard." Aleath replied, knowing exactly how hard it was. His family was killed by the same canines, except him and Foxx. Their parents told them to hide, so they didn't know they could use magic.

"And it would be easier if I had some help." Kethean added, looking into Aleath's eyes.

Aleath thought for a bit. He didn't like the idea of chasing those two furs now, but he had to save his brother.

"Ok... I just want to get my brother back; even if it kills me." he said, grabbing the hilt of his sword.

Kethean smirked and got up, grabbing something. Aleath looked at it, thinking it was a stick, but the let out a small 'Wow' when he saw what it really was. It was a long pole, with sharp blades on its two ends. Just like its owner, it looked deadly.

"Well then, let's get going. Nothing good will happen if we just sit here." Kethen said, placing the weapon on his back for easy access.

Aleath nodded and got up, throwing some sand to kill the fire. He still wasn't completely comfortable near the dragon, but that was probably because he looked so intimidating. Also, he had the faint feeling that Kethean didn't tell him everything...

"Ok, done." he said, getting the backpack and walking near the dragon. Kethean nodded and started walking through the trees.

"We better stop when we get to the next village to rest a bit and ask if those two were there." he suggested. Aleath gave a small nod and looked up at Kethean.

"Ok. But do you really think we'll get any useful information?"

"I... don't know..." Kethean replied in a low voice. Aleath kept in a small sigh.

After some hours of almost no change of scenery, the space between trees started getting bigger, and the blue sky was starting to get visible. Not long after, the two found themselves at the entrance of a village, using their hands to protect their eyes from the bright sun rays.

"Let's go..." Kethean said, and started walked past the small gates, with Aleath right behind him. Aleath looked around, seeing a few furs looking at the tall dragon, some with a look of admiration, other with a faint look of fear in their eyes.

"We better find someplace to eat." the otter suggested, walking a little faster so he was by Kethean's side. The dragon looked at him and nodded.

"Yes, then we'll start asking if someone saw those two or your brother..."
