It had been almost a week since my little run-in with David in the restroom at school, and David was the pretty much the same as ever: easily annoyed and to himself, but he was a little more social now. Over the past few days, he had been sitting with Ryu and I at lunch; there really wasn't much conversation, but it was a step forward in my opinion; though I still wish I could reach him somehow.. make a good friend out of him, but it's step-by-step I suppose. Today, I planned on trying to loosen the noose on his heart a bit; I planned on visiting him at home, hoping to get him to talk It was a Saturday, and I had free time, especially with Ryu helping my father decrapify his laptop. After saying 'bye' to everyone at home, I departed for David's. I wanted to save time on getting there,so I decided on using my varient of flash-step. Picturing my destination in my mind, I burst forward with a push from my legs, and disappeared in a flash of silver light. I reappeared at my chosen locale in a matter of seconds, finding David there, working on an old car; he was muttering something to himself about wiring. "Um.. hi," I said, catching the twin tailed white fox by surprise, causing him to hit his head on the undercarriage of the vehicle, "How's it goin?" "Uhhg," David moaned, in pain or annoyance; I didn't know which, "Kai, right? Look.. I'm busy rewiring this old car here.. I need my concentration.. so please, leave." I nodded slowly, beginning to turn away, letting him get back to his work. I wasn't an expert on cars or electronics, but I did understand he needed his concentration nonetheless. As I began to leave; however, I sensed something was off. I didn't know what it was, but something didn't feel right, like something really bad was going to happen. With that in thought, I swiveled on my heels to my original direction. David seemed to take notice as well, 'hmm'ing to himself as he continued working with the wiring of the old clunker of a car. After some time, he spoke. "You going to watch me all day," he asked, seeming slightly annoyed by his tone, "cuz I would really appreciate it if you'd just go and let me work.. alone.." "Well.. I... I just get the feeling something's not right here.. I'm getting majorly bad vibes for some reason.. I just want to make sure everything is going to be ok..." I replied nervously; I could tell he was starting to get quite.. irritated by my presence. "Right.. got y-" David never got to finish what he was saying, as a spark from part of the wiring ignited something inside the car, sending it up in flames. The fire spread quickly, soon reaching the fuel tank, and with an ear-shattering boom, it exploded, sending the fox flying through the air and seriously singeing his snow-white fur. Thinking fast, I warped in behind him, catching him and taking the brunt of the force of the fall; I'd be sore after this, but I figured a few bruises is worth possibly saving a person's life. When I picked myself up, the first thought that came to mind was to check his vitals; I ran through the procedures, checking his pulse, and making sure he was breathing. Thankfully he was, and his pulse was steady; still, he had a few injuries, and the fire was still spreading. I called the fire department on my cell, telling the dispatcher the address of the residence, and picked David up from the ground, flinging him up on my shoulders. __________________________________________________________________ Once the firefighters arrived, I briefly explained what happened for them, and left the scene, towing David with me. He was heavier than I expected, making it take quite a while to get home; I would have warped, but I wasn't sure if I could manage it with the two of us.. Once safe and sound at my own house, I managed to take the fox on my shoulders into the den, where my father and Ryu were still at work with the laptop. I cleared my throat, catching their attention. "Oh, hey so--," my father began, slowly pivoting his head to see me; he noticed David on my back and quickly changed tone, from calm to concerned, "What the.. What the 'effing hell happened!?" "Oh.. um.. well.. I'll just spill it," I replied quickly, "David was working on his car, it had a short circuit, caught fire, and exploded... I caught him and brought his unconscious self back here to recover while the fire department puts it all out.." At that, my father lost his cool, and passed out, leaving Ryu and I alone in the room with the unconscious fox. Ryu helped me set him on the couch, and thus began the long process of cutting away singed fur and bandaging wounds. After about and hour or so of doctoring David up and a long winded explanation to my shocked mother, we left the fox to rest and heal. __________________________________________________________________ Ryu and I went to my room after bandaging David up; he seemed surprised at me at first, giving me quizzical looks as we discussed the whole ordeal in detail. Ryu eventually ended the conversation, and smiled at me, placing a paw on my shoulder, and nuzzling my cheek with his own. "Ya saved a guy you don't really know from certain death, and then ya call the fire department and brought him back home with ya to recover from his injuries... You're just a little bundle of good deeds today; aren't ya Kai?" He laughed, ruffling my hair playfully. "I just did what I knew was the right thing to do, Ryu-chan.." I replied quietly, "I couldn't just leave him there.. he would've died.. and I don't wanna lose a possible friend.." __________________________________________________________________ Several hours passed before I went down to check on David. When I arrived in the den he seemed to still be asleep on the couch, now holding one of his tails I his arms like a cub with a teddy-bear. As I approached him I began to notice something awfully strange; his injuries had already begun healing, and the damaged areas of his fur were beginning to grow back in slightly. Just as I was starting to wonder how fucking hell he could possibly heal that fast, he awakened. "Ouch," he grumbled as he sat up, "where the hell am I? And why does it hurt so damned much to move?" "Well.. for starters.. you're at my house," I began, taking a seat next to him on the couch, " and second, your car exploded and you got fairly well fucked up.." He looked at me like he didn't understand a word I had said, and then looked down at his feet, mumbling something inaudible about the wiring of the now destroyed car. He turned to me, then smirked a little, as if to say 'thanks' and tried to get up, only to cringe in pain as he stood. I pulled him back down onto the couch, telling him to take it easy. He grinned again and spoke. "You don't even know me and saved my fucking life.. You're different kid," he began, laughing a bit, "gotta say you got some guts saving a guy you hardly know from a fiery death and dragging his ass all the way here to your home.." "It's not really that big a deal.. I just did what was right.. Besides.. I'd like to think of us as friends, and friends help friends out when they need it!" I replied happily, glad he was ok. "Well... thanks.. I guess.. for getting me out of there.. kid." "Kai" "Right.. thank-you.. my friend" __________________________________________________________________ We talked for just a bit after that, before letting him rest some more. I had a feeling that I just made a good friend, and with that, I headed back to my room, where Ryu was waiting for me, and slowly drifted off to sleep with hopes of a better tomorrow.
