Chapter 138: Worry

Roger had been seeking some time alone with the wolf to finally show him some affection, but it seemed to be a difficult task lately. However, now the wolf was sitting on his bed, staring at him with a smile and a tail constantly in motion. Roger had waited so long, and yet, it did not seem like the right time to do anything.

The wolf had an innocent happiness about him. Roger did not want to ruin something nice by turning it into something dirty. He walked over and sat next to the wolf and immediately found an arm around him.

He felt warm. Something about being in contact with the wolf seemed to make him feel all warm and fuzzy inside. He could feel his heart beating a little faster, a little stronger. He put his face against Hunter's chest and closed his eyes, listening to the wolf's heartbeat. It was soothing.

He felt a paw go to his head, and he opened his eyes, looking up at the wolf, who returned it with a gentle expression.

The fox licked him on the cheek. "I love you, Hunter," he whispered. He closed his eyes again, nuzzling into the wolf's chest, inhaling deeply the scent of the wolf that had enchanted him so. He smiled softly and continued to rub his face against the wolf's chest.

Hunter nipped at one of his ears and stroked the fox's back. His tail betrayed how happy he was at that moment, creating a lot of noise against the bed sheets.

They continued in this manner for a few minutes, which seemed like an eternity to the fox, but was still far too short. He sat back up straight so that he was no longer leaning on the wolf, but still nuzzled into the arm that was around him, holding onto the wolf's paw with his own.

Hunter whispered back into the fox's ear, "I love you, too, Roger." He had been waiting for the wolf to say it, but really, he did not need the words. He could feel it through his actions.

Roger closed his eyes again and just savored the time they had. The wolf had done really well compared to how he used to do, and even better than most students that Roger had known at that school. It was a testament to the wolf's potential and the fox's skill as a tutor.

There was a knock on the door and the wolf pulled his arm away quickly. The fox looked over at the door and his heart sank a little. The door had been left open, and the younger wolf had walked in. He was looking at the floor, so he did not know if they had been spotted. He also did not know if he had been standing there for longer than the entry he had just made.

"H-hey Matt, what's up?" the fox asked him. He hoped that perhaps he could just brush it off as if it were nothing. If he pretended that the events did not exist, perhaps they would not be questioned.

"What are you two doing?" the small wolf asked. His voice was low.

"Uh," Roger began. He did not really know how to explain it, but he tried to just ignore it for now and see if it would work. "Just hanging out here. Is something wrong?"

The small wolf went up and hopped on Hunter's lap, as if it were a thing that he did often. Roger was slightly jealous, fully believing that that was his spot. He let it slide, though. It was family, after all.

Hunter put his arms around the smaller wolf and held him, an innocent smile on his face. It made the fox even more jealous, but it could not be helped. Roger put a paw on the smaller wolf's head and patted it. "You can tell us," he goaded.

Matt squirmed a little, disgruntled. He gave an annoyed look at Roger, so the fox stopped. "You don't have to treat me like a kid," he said, pouting.

"Okay, fine, fine," the fox said. "Not going to treat you like a kid anymore, then."

Matt looked off to the side, away from the fox, and then mumbled something incomprehensible.

"What was that?" Roger asked. He genuinely had no idea what the smaller wolf had said. He looked at Hunter for an answer, but the wolf just shrugged. Apparently he also had not heard it.

The small wolf folded his ears and then looked back at the fox. He hesitated, and then said, "I... I need help... with some homework."

Roger tilted his head. "Homework? Summer vacation is about to start. You shouldn't have any homework," the fox said.

The wolf grumbled something below their range of hearing, and then said, "Yeah, but... it's a summer project."

The fox thought back of when he was as young as Matt. They had done a summer project, as well, but he had finished it before the vacation had even started, so it was not all that memorable to him. He had completely forgotten that it even existed.

"Oh, uh, yeah. I guess I can help with that. What do you have to do?" the fox asked. He nudged Hunter and nodded at him.

It was a good way to distract from what they had almost been caught doing. The wolf took the hint and said, "Yeah, what do you have to do?"

The small wolf said, "I have to make a model... of the planets and stuff. We learned about it in class, but I'm bad at making things." He looked away and fidgeted. He was visibly disappointed in himself.

Roger shrugged. "Yeah, I can help you with that. Do you have what you need?"

Matt shook his head. "No..."

The fox shrugged. "We'll go to the store and get some arts and crafts supplies, then. Shouldn't be too bad. Do you want to do that now?"

A small smile came across the smaller wolf's face. Evidently, he had been stressed out about the project. He nodded his head.

"Alright, I guess we'll do that, then. Go get ready and we'll head off, okay?" the fox said.

Hunter set the wolf down and patted him on the head, which caused him to get a little mad, but did not say anything in return in regard to it.

Instead, he walked a little toward the door, and then it looked as if he had just remembered something. He turned back around and then asked, "Were you two hugging?"

Roger froze, and unknowingly folded his hears. "Wh-what do you mean?"

"You know, before I came in here, I saw you two." The small wolf had a blank face, so it was possible that he did not know any of the implications that might have come along with their actions, or perhaps that was just wishful thinking on the fox's part.

"Well, yeah, that's... that's what friends do, right?" the fox quickly responded, thinking back to what Hunter had once said.

Matt did not react at first, thinking it over, but accepted it all the same. He left the room without letting the fox know if he truly believed him.

Roger began to worry. He looked over to Hunter and asked, "What if he starts telling everyone?"

The wolf smiled back at him and put his arm around him once more. "You don't have to worry. You've got me."

The fox continued to worry.
