Chapter one
Well without further adieu, here's chapter one of part two :)
Avi p.o.v
I wake up with a start and immediately I hold my side, wincing in pain from all that electricity coursing through my body. I look around and see that I'm in an office with zip ties around my hands. Merissa and Braxton are out cold, their breathing shallow as they are still trying to recover from being tased. I try to stand, but it's as if my legs are made of lead, not obeying my command to move, so I inch forward until I can pull myself into the chair and manage to sit upright in it.
Before me I see three cups of water and three trays of food. The still water suddenly makes me have an unsustainable thirst and I immediately wrap my hands around the cup and gulp it down to about halfway when I remember that I need to sip it, so that I can properly quench my thirst. I hear footsteps outside, and I turn towards the door. A guard walks in with a pitcher full or water and sets it down on the table. I scramble to grab the water, my mouth suddenly dry, despite the fact that I just drank some water. I feel like a prisoner of war, my suit drenched in sweat, my fur ruffled and messy.
The guards just stare at me while I refill my red plastic cup, the type they use for beer pong. I set the pitcher down and a guard, one of which I fought in the courtroom God knows how long ago, comes and takes off my zip tie. I stare into his eyes while he is taking of the instrument bonding my hands, my eyes burning with fury at the events that happened before I was unexpectedly knocked unconscious. I resist the urge to fight him, knowing that I can't win, so I just rub my hands, sore from being bound for so long. My glare at him deepens, but as I look into his eyes, I see sorrow in them, remorse. He looks down, avoiding my glare, and looks at the cold tray of food before me.
"If you want, I could heat that up for you," he said blankly.
"Please?" I replied. He grabbed the tray, consisting of lasagna, breadsticks, and a bowl of grapes to the side, and he left the office. I watch him carry my tray over to the break area, and take the grapes out of the tray before putting the tray in the microwave. I move to Merissa and Braxton, kneeling down and shaking them, yelling their names for them to wake up. Merissa bulged, yawing and stretching her tied hands, but Braxton was still out. He always was the deep sleeper, so I have to resort to, alternative methods. A malicious grin spreads across my face and Merissa turns and looks at me, curiosity spreading across her face.
"What are you planning to do to him?" she asked.
"Something he really hates," I answered back as I put my pinky in my mouth, letting my fur be drenched in saliva. Merissa focused her gaze upon my pinky, which was going towards Braxton's left ear. I then shoved it in his ear, and immediately, he woke up, his left ear flickering back and forth. He quickly scanned the room, and then he noticed that his hands were cuffed by the zip tie, and finally, he looked at me.
"You know I hate that," he said, yawning. Just then the guard walked in and with my heated food and some cookies.
"I thought I might give you guys a treat," he said, setting my tray and the cookies on the table. "It was courageous what you guys did for your friend back there. You all tried to save him no matter what the cost. And you guys put up one hell of a fight. However you all face several misdemeanors and a felony charge of assault and battery, should Judge Gladstone choose to indict you."
"So when will we see Judge Gladstone?" Braxton asked.
"He'll be here momentarily," the guard replied as he started to undo Braxton's and Merissa's zip ties. The guard walked out while we all headed to the table. I held out Merissa's seat and pushed her in, and then I took a seat myself. Then I handed the heated food to her and grabbed a cold tray. She nodded her head in appreciation, and I smiled faintly before starting to eat. We all sat there, eating in silence, the only sound in the room being the movement of forks across the trays and the cool air coming into the room. When we all finished our food, we poured another glass of water into the cup and chugged it down. After finishing the water, we all sat there, waiting for Judge Gladstone to appear.
Judge Gladstone was walking casually with two officers on each side of him, and then opened the office door that served as our prison cell. We all turned to face him, and his face expressed grave disappointment and sorrow. There was an awkward silence as we continued staring at each other.
"I know that you did not like the ruling," the judge began pacing back and forth, "however, I must do my duty and enforce the law. The law stated that I must pass the custody of a minor to the closest living relatives he has should something happen to his parents or his legal guardians. Now if they prove to be a danger him then he will be immediately removed and his relatives will go into police custody where they will be punished for their crimes. Until then he must stay with them. They may be grateful enough to let you all see him regularly."
The judge stopped and slammed his hands on the table, flames of anger raging in his eyes. We all jumped back, scared of the change in his mood. I glanced at Merissa, who was trembling in fear, and Braxton, who although he appeared outwardly calm, his vast blue eyes showed grave concern.
"You morons could have gotten yourselves killed or seriously injured! I know my verdict was heartbreaking, that I'd have to split up two lovers, but it is my duty to enforce the law! There was no reason for you all to act out and try to remove him from his aunt and uncle! Now I have to decide whether or not to indict you on those charges, some felonies which if found guilty can you land in not a juvenile detention center, but a federal prison!"
I had my face down the whole time during the lecture; my ears drooped behind my head in shame. It's nothing like a lecture to make you feel down. I turned and glanced up at Braxton, who had his head up but his glance down. I then looked over to see how Merissa was dealing with the Judge's recent outburst and I saw tears swelling in her eyes. I knew she was holding them back, her will a dam to prevent them from spilling onto her cheeks, but she wasn't strong enough and the dam broke, tears falling on her face as she began to cry.
"I'm sorry!" she wailed. "What were we supposed to do? His fucking family treated him like shit! He was locked inside a basement for a week! He was beaten and tortured by those monsters! He wanted to die for Christ's sake! You should've seen the emptiness in his eyes, the pure agony of living within them when he was being shat on by his parents, versus the pure joy when he was with Avi! Avi gave him a fucking reason to live and now you've taken that away from him! I love Ian, and I knew he was bi or gay or whatever he is before he knew it himself, and I knew that one day he would leave me, but it's my fucking duty to look after him, and I will!"
Merissa got up to leave when the old stallion commanded, "Young lady sit down this instant!" She reached the door before the two guards grabbed her arms, and whirled her around to face the judge. Judge Gladstone gave her a stern glare while Merissa, with tears flowing down her cheeks, radiated rage from her eyes. Her face was scrunched, her mouth was scowling, her teeth barred, and her body was trembling with anger.
Suddenly she screamed, "If Ian decides to kill himself, his blood is on your hands!" Everyone was shocked by her response, the security personnel dropping their guard and that was when she shrugged them off of her. She immediately turned and opened the door, looking back at our distraught faces, then she slammed the door shut behind her. The judge sat down and put his hand of his face, obviously stressed from the situation, and everyone in the room sat there in silence, bothered by Merissa's response.
