The next time I woke up, I was in a rather comfortable bed, but it was tilted up at an angle, like a hospital bed. The room I was in resembled the interior of a castle, smoothed stone blocks for walls, and a white tapestry with a red medical cross. I looked at myself, and observed the changes to myself. My arms were a very dark gray, almost black. My hands actually looked more like a dog's paw, and the fur there was actually a midnight black.Midnight black. I looked around and saw some other people in similar beds. One boy had a yellow tinge to his skin and red cheeks. It all came rushing back to me - the Schwanns man, the pickup truck, the Flareon, the Zoroark. I looked around with a certain look of disbelief. Everyone around me, including myself, was turning into a Pokémon. I recognized a few right off the bat, like Emolga, Machop, and even an Eevee. Now, I was a fan since about Gen 4, but this instance was very unusual. I looked at myself a couple of times, still not recognizing my species. An Audino with a nurse hat, kinda like the nurse in the games, walked up to me and smiled, "Morning. How are you?" I tried to pick myself up to realign myself, but immediately groaned in pain, "I could do with some painkillers." The nurse replaced a fluid bag and closed my eyes with her paw, "Actually, you just need rest." I opened my eyes back up shook my head, "Where am I?" The nurse looked a bit worried, "Well, to be completely honest, about 2 miles below Jefferson City." My eyes widened and I turned to the Audino with a wild look in my eyes, "Who are you? What are you? What am I? Why is this happening?" The nurse just smiled, "Your questions will be answered as soon as you recover."
This continued for a few days, until the nurse let me out of the medical wing. A Flareon walked up to me with a smile on his face, "Hey kid, how ya doin?" My eyes widened, "It's you. The Flareon that saved me." The fire type nodded, "The name's Chris. What's yours?" I smiled back, "Sam. Good to meet you, Chris." He motioned behind him, "I'm actually here on business. The headmaster wants to see you." I was a bit confused, but still followed Chris to a large set of wooden double doors with gold trim. He beckoned me to the door, "Go on ahead. I've got some other things to do." I hesitantly opened the doors, and saw the headmaster - a Noivern. I closed the door and nervously smiled, "Uhh...hello. My name is-" The headmaster cut in, "Sam. We know things. I'm Mr. Gittara. Take a seat, please." I sat in one of the seats in front of the large mahogany desk and put my hands in my lap, "I have so many questions. I don't know where to begin." The Noivern held up his hand, "Let me stop you there. Right to the point, a few years ago, a mad scientist found a hair of a Mew, the last real Pokémon on this Earth. You see, before humans and after the dinosaurs, the Pokémon race walked and ruled this planet. The primitive humans thought of them as a threat and started a war before most recorded history. The Pokémon fled to another dimension, but one Mew remained. It remains here as the official creator of the Pokémon franchise today. Before they left, some Pokémon fell in love with humans and the descendants all carried a recessive gene for their Pokémon DNA and traits. When this mad scientist did was try to manipulate and recreate Mew through the hair he found. However, he failed and created a wave of energy that re-energized the dormant gene and the people with the gene started turning into their Pokémon ancestors. You are becoming one and are officially getting a new lease on life." I looked baffled for a minute, then asked, "Okay, so if I'm mutating into a Pokémon, which one am I turning into? 'Cause I have loved and followed Pokémon for a while, and I still don't know what the heck I'm turning into." Mr. Gittara answered, "You are actually turning into a mix of 2. Somehow, a carrier of both an Umbreon gene and a Glaceon gene had descendants and you are one of them, all these years later." I sat there, trying to piece this together, "Okay, so I'm turning into a cross between Umbreon and Glaceon. Now then, who was that weird guy that sprayed me?" The Noivern looked a bit upset, "That was Pokextinction. They work for another mad scientist who is working for the first one. They look for us and hunt us down." I sighed, "Okay. I live way south of this state, so I need to get home. Otherwise, my family will worry." Mr. Gittara looked at me with a sad expression, "Pokextinction created a clone of you while you were unconscious. Filled it with your memories. You can never go back." I couldn't believe what I was hearing - I was turning into a cross between 2 Pokémon and I could never go back to my family. Mr. Gittara continued, "We are called Pokéumans. We are supposed to train to fight Pokéxtinction and save other Pokéumans. Here is your official schedule." He passed me a piece of paper that read
Name: Sam Species: Umbreon/Glaceon Age: 14 Room #: 269

I looked at the list and then looked at the Noivern headmaster, "So, I assume that I'll change completely. When would that be?" Mr. Gittara answered, "Within a few weeks, at least." I nodded and asked, "So where is my room?" He responded, "Hold on, I'll get one of your roommates," He pushed a button on the intercom, "Will Jast the Glaceon please come to the office please? Jast the Glaceon to the office, thank you." Pretty soon, a Glaceon came through the door with a smile, "You wanted to see me, Mr. Gittara?" The headmaster smiled, "Yes, Jast. This is Sam, he'll be you're new roommate." I waved nervously, "Hi. I'm Sam." She smiled, "Pleased to meet you. If you'll follow me, I'll show you to the room." I followed her as we left the office and went to a wooden door with a plate that had the numbers 269 on it. We went in and saw the setup. There was a bunk bed on one side of the room, a single bed on the other, and a TV and couch against the back wall. On the bottom bunk was a Servine with it's eyes closed and a smile on it's face. I jumped when it spoke in a relatively young voice, "So, who'd you bring home this time, Jast?" She rolled her eyes and looked at the Servine with a look of slight disbelief, "Well, this one just happens to be your new roommate." The Servine's eyes snapped open and he looked at me from head to toe, then he smiled at me, "Well, I got no idea what you are, but I'm happy to have ya," He held out his leaf-like hand, "The name's Tyler." I shook his hand, "I'm Sam." He nodded, "Not meaning to be offensive, but you get the top bunk." I chuckled, "Okay. I'm fine with that. Bunk beds are cool." I climbed up and Jast smiled up at me, "So, does that mean that you're a Whovian, because I've only heard the 11th Doctor say that." I held up my hands/paws in mock surrender, "Guilty as charged." We all shared a laugh, and I knew that this would be fun. New life, new friends - so far, so good.
