Wait
#6 of Inspired By...
A little story that is quite short, but should speak for itself. Inspired by M83's "Wait" from Hurry Up, We're Dreaming. Sorta based on what I felt when I left for college.

As the sun rose, shadows lengthened, and the night started to peel away slowly. The dawn, while it looked beautiful, felt... sad. He wasn't sure why, but it felt sad to him. He was leaving his home, and heading to college. He should be feeling happy, because he's finally leaving a place that felt cruel, lonely, and unforgiving.
Yet... He sighed a little. There shouldn't be any reason why he should feel bad for his little brother, and the same could be said for his dad, his mom, and his sister. He breathed in, and looked away from the town. The plane's engine started, and he focused on the seat in front of him.
The rattling of the little plane was calming. Okay, not really, but he felt empty. He wondered why was that, but he knew the reason. No matter how bad his family was, or how others had treated him during the time he stayed here, it didn't change the fact that he knew them, and that this place was his home. Nothing could change that.
He closed his eyes, and laid his head back on the seat. The plane started to move, he could feel that much. The sound of the loud engine was all he could hear. It sounded... final. If anything, he wondered if it was this flight that would end his relatively boring life.
The thought unsettled him, but he cast it aside. He looked out the window again. He saw the snow covered mountains. How beautiful they looked. The way the morning sun made them sparkle... it felt reassuring to see these mountains. He grew up looking at them, thinking they were the most beautiful and majestic things when he was younger.
Then, he gotten older.
Now... now he was leaving this place, his home. His family was not the type to leave their town for anything. So, he pretty much knew only that part of the earth, and such a small part it was. No roads to other towns. No roads to the city. It was just... there. It was remote.
He wondered how he'd fare in a place like the city. He smiled. Finally, he had a chance to see the world. Well, see some more of it, but that didn't matter. He was going away from home, and going to college. He was going to be a thousand miles away from this small patch of land he grew up in.
That made him sad. And somewhat happy. He'd return here. He knew it. He would be happy to be home again.
Smiling to himself, he closed his eyes again. It was going to be a long journey. Best get some shut eye. He had enough time to think of his situation.
Most importantly, he needed to be strong for himself.
