The Tale of Silvermoon

The sleeping drake awoke in his slumber as the sunlight of the morning casts itself into the waterfall that hid the entrance of his domain. As the light hits the rushing water, the reflections created danced around the cave and continuously cast the bright light over his closed eyes. With a small grunt and groan, the drake reluctantly stretched his body out like most felines would to get his joint popped and to wake up his muscles for the day to come. "Nghh~ Morning already?" He thought softly and slowly padded up the waterfall where he stuck his muzzle into it, drinking the constant fresh and cool water for a good minute before pulling out with a loud sigh of relief. He then took this moment to make sure he hadn't gotten himself dirty in the night before.

He examined his toned muscles frame showing he was always working his body out to keep in shape. His body was covered in head to tail with a coat of silver and white blended scales, though with a unique mark of a blue crescent moon on his shoulder. His horns were yellow and lightly curved in a wave as his wings webbing were also blue. He had fur from the top of his head running down his spine, ending at the tip of his tail. "Looking good." He thought to himself with a light chuckle. "Well I'm heading out, I'll be back mom and dad!" he called out to the cave before running out from the small opening out to the den from the side of the waterfall, but there was no respond to the silver drake's yell as he then leaves the silent and empty cave.

As he left his cave, the bright sun shined over his little paradise of his home, from the crystal clear lake and being able to see every fish that swam around in it to the vast forest that surrounded him. The smell of the fresh grass and flowers that filled the air and watching the birds and butterflies dance around in the skies. He smiled as he walks along the thin pathway to the other side of the lake and to the forest while at the same time, he could feel his stomach growling lightly as he watched the fish within the lake.

"I would go after you guys... but you're much faster than I am under water so I know not to," He said with a smile and a light chuckle. The silver drake would then stroll off into the forest to hunt for his meal. He knew he could always fly and catch something but where would be the fun in that, plus this kept the young drake in shape and improved his sneaking skills. After about an hour or so of waiting, a large buck showed up to graze around the area, making the drake's heart slow as he lowered his breathing, remaining motionless to not scare the creature. With a swift pounce at the right time, he got his meal, grabbing onto the buck with his razor sharp claws and fangs, tearing at it until it laid limp on the ground.

But unaware to the silver drake was that he was actually not alone in these woods. In the sky there was a purple figured starting to form in the distance, heading straight for his home. This drake was of purple and gold with curved horns and spikes along his back to the tip of his tail. He looked throughout the forest and soon found the small lake and smiled, "Ugh, finally found some fresh water." The purple drake thought to himself as he began to lower himself down to land by the water's edge. With a happy sigh he lowered his head and frank from the crystal clear water, enjoying his first taste of water in days.

While the purple drake was drinking from the lake, the silver drake was walking through the brush only to stop at the sight of another dragon. "Um... hello there.. can I help you?" He asked in a friendly tone but the purple drake was caught by surprised and turned around quickly for combat. When he turned though, and only saw the unusual colored dragon and his kill, the drake settle down and relax. "Sorry about that rude gesture, I was not expecting anyone to be here." The purple drake responded with a small chuckle. "Sorry, my name is Spyro and you are?" The silver drake was hesitant at first to reply but sure enough to returned the kindness, "My name is Silvermoon, or just Silver for short." Silver responded with a light smile.

After Spyro started a fire and Silver put the buck on a spit, the two began to talk, or really Spyro talked while Silver mainly listened. "So you were on a mission to stop a village raiding but have gotten lost?" Silver asked after hearing Sypro's story as the purple drake nodded in response. "I see, well I know these forest like the back of my paw. If you wish, I could take you in the morning." Silver offered. "Really? That would be great, thank you!" Spyro exclaimed happily. The night was filled with Sypro's stories of adventure and battles which made Silver feel like a kid again from the look of interest on his face, just like the stories Silver's father use to tell him when he was a child. The next morning was no different as Silver asked what happened after each story Spyro told him and Spyro himself didn't mind the attention at all.

They flew for a few hours, helping folks on the way and putting out a few forest fires which seemed to have appeared out of no where. "So Spyro... what is this dragon city like?" Silver asked curiously as he has heard of it before but has yet to see it. "Well silver, it's the most beautiful city ever made as it was made for dragons and anyone that needed shelter over their heads. It's run by the four guardians... I mean three guardians, sorry." Spyro responded while lowering his head to the side, his tone sound of sadness and Silver didn't wish to poke the wound so he didn't ask anymore. But what come over the horizon was something they never could have imagine as the dragon city was partly on fire. "What the heck happened!" Spyro yelled angrily as he quickened his pace to see what was happening.

As they flew down to get a better look at what was going on, they noticed that there were other dragons flying throughout the city, mainly ice drakes using their breaths to put out the flames while others used buckets of water. Spyro noticed Cyril, one of the three guardians and a powerful ice dragon was mainly focusing on the main hall while the others took care of the city. "Cyril! Cyril what happened?" Spyro yelled out to him when they flew over to him. The mention of his name as well as the familiar voice made him turned his head to the purple dragon as well as the new silver drake. "Spyro thank god you are here. Help me take care of this. Who is your friend here?" He asked looking the silver drake up and down. Spyro smiled and turned to him, "This is Silvermoon, we met in the woods on my way back as I got lost but he knew the way. Spyro stated which made Cyril nod and get back to work with Spyro's help as well as silver grabbing buckets with the others.

With everybody working, it didn't take very long for the city flames to be put out as the city slowly returned back to normal. Spyro and silver landed together near the entrance and glanced around the field and forest around them, "What do you think could have caused this?" Silver asked only to get a sigh as Spyro shook his head. "If it was the goblins they would have been spotted and there would be bodies here from a counter by the dragons... but there isn't any." Spyro responded quietly. "Sypro!" Came a loud voice from behind making the two of them turn around to see one of the city guards. "The guardians want to see you and your friend here at the main hall this instant." The guard exclaimed while looking at Spyro and then at Silver. "Okay then we will go, come on Silver best not keep them waiting." Spyro said before taking the sky with Silver not far behind him. When they reached the main hall, they landed at the entrance and padded in, stepping into the meeting room. Silver was wide eyed at how big the room was where he could only assume was the three guardians, with one being Cyril whom he had only made just moments ago however the other two were unknown to him. "Silver you have met Cyril but these two are Volteer a lighting dragon, and Terrador an earth dragon." Spyro stated while moving towards the middle of the room with Silver next to him.

"Spyro, thank goodness you got here and you are safe. We do not know what happened, the enemy came and went so fast that it was too late and everything had caught up in flames." Terrador stated before Cyril joined in, "But that is of a different matter... Silvermoon was it? Your scales... What are you?" He asked softly. This made the two young drakes blink a bit, "What am I?" Silver repeated. "He is a dragon like us guardians, why are you asking this?" Spyro added before Volteer answered. "Sypro... A silver dragon is unheard of.. we do not know what powers he may have." This statement made the room fall silent and caused Spyro to turn to Silver, "Silver... what powers do you have?" He asked hoping that he friends enough to be able to get an answer out of him. "I... I don't know Spyro. I've never used my powers before." He responded, looking down, feeling a bit ashamed as not knowing anything of his powers while most of the drake's learn it while young. "If that is so then you are not to leave this city until we figure this out." Terrador said sternly.

Silver's eyes widen at what the guardian had said, he couldn't leave? "But sir, I can't stay here, I have a home to get to and my parents would be worried." Silver protested but Terrador's tail tip which was a large blunt ball with nubs on it lifted up and slammed onto the ground. "That is final!" He yelled out authority to the younger drake, but to everyone surprised the silver drake didn't back down, "You can't keep me here! I am not part of your city, I am a free dragon!" Silver yelled back at the large drake. Silver would then turn around and run out of the room before they would say anything. "Silver!" Spyro yelled out as he watched him run out. "Spyro go after him, we can not afford to let him leave." Terrador yelled. Spyro only nodded in response before turning tail and running after the silver drake.

By the time Spyro stepped out of the building, Silvermoon had already taken to the sky and was already at the wall. He had to move fast to watch up with him as he too takes to the sky, working his muscles to fly as fast as he could to catch up with Silver. "Silver wait up!" Spyro called out but no response was given. "Silver we need to head back, the council knows what for the best trust me!" Spyro called out. "Just leave me alone Spyro! I'm not one of you guys!" Silver yelled back sounding just as angry as he was in the meeting room. After that response, Spyro flew for a few hours following the upset drake fly back to his home but made sure to keep some distance from Silver and not say a word. When Spyro landed at the lake which is where they had first met the other day, he recalled the night Silver had mention that the waterfall is all the protection he needed out here. Slowly, he steps onto the thin path on the sides of the small lake towards the waterfall before noticing light behind it. "A hidden cave... that pretty smart." Spyro thought to himself before stepping inside only to find Silvermoon... sitting in the middle of the room with tears running down his cheeks. "It's okay... I'm home mom... dad... I'm sorry I was gone for so long..." Silver said to himself however it was just audible enough for Spyro to hear.

After hearing that, Spyro blinked a few times and looked around from where he was standing, the cave wasn't that deep so Silver parents couldn't hide back there. After a few curious sniffs, Spyro noticed it only smelled of Silver, not even a trace of another dragon. "Silver.. there's no one here..." Spyro said softly but Silver turned to him with tears in his eyes, "No! You are wrong.. they are here... they have always been here..." He tried responding but sniffed and cried out a bit some more during his words. "They are always here... cause I buried them here... after they died to save me from the shadows." He said looking down at the ground, that was when Spyro noticed markings on the ground in front of Silver. 'Mom & Dad' was scratched deeply into the ground. Spyro said nothing, what could he have said about this... all he did was move up to Silvermoon and gave him a hug, holding him tightly while he cried onto his shoulder. Silver slowly returning the hug to Spyro while he cried in silence, never having anyone to cry with or talk about it since the event that cost his parents their lives.
