Consolation
#18 of Story Commissions
A commission for FA: Cobaltxwolf involving his character and his boyfriend's own talking about some stuff. This one was really fun to write, especially considering I don't dabble in these types of things much.
The apartment was filled with the sounds of the guitar strings being plucked. The wolf lounged on the couch, feet kicking the armrest as he practiced on the bass. He didn't feel like studying over the break and he had a day off from work. Quite frankly with the apartment to himself, it felt like the natural thing to do. To just fill up the place with sounds, letting his fingers make some simple notes or try and copy something he heard on the radio this morning. Elias grumbled, pushing a bang of hair to the side as he bobbed his head a bit. He couldn't go all out considering the neighbors complained the last time he played his music on full blast.
Ah well, nuts to them. This was their place and they liked it. He'd finally saved up enough from college scholarships, as well as his boyfriend's job to land them a one room apartment. They had to share the bed, but he wouldn't have it any other way. A smile crept up on Elias's face as he looked around the apartment. The blue furred canine didn't have many plans for after college, though. Getting the apartment in the first place was a bitch and a half, but after that? It hadn't come to mind.
"Grad school? Try and be a musician full time?" Elias muttered to himself.
The options were there. He didn't have much experience in the music life to try, but the idea was there. As for grad school, he could possibly give it a shot if he kept his grades going well. But what if it didn't work out? Elias frowned, hitting a few sour notes on his guitar. More and sour ones were hit as Elias's thoughts got deeper. The idea of staying with his boyfriend was immediate; he didn't need to think about that. What he was worried about was their financial future.
His parents had the same concerns when he'd moved out. The first thing they wanted to make sure was that he at least had a job before moving out, but he assured them that they wouldn't have to worry as long as he had good grades and looked around for internships to get his foot in the door. He was almost done with school and had done some of that, but the thought of it all being for nothing crept into his mind. Elias stopped playing his guitar and slumped back into the couch with a frown. Why the heck was he thinking about this when he just got part of their dream done? What was the point in mulling over it?
In Elias's moment of self evaluation, he hadn't noticed the apartment door clicking open. Through the door stepped in his boyfriend, Chris. The incredibly muscled ice dragon was dressed in a burly coat that he shed off almost immediately after stepping inside. The dragon had nothing but a long sleeve sweater that didn't do much to hide his massive physique. He stretched his limbs and yawned, scuffing his feet over the carpet and closing the door behind him.
"Hey babe, I'm home." He yelled into the apartment.
Elias waved at him over from the couch. Chris stepped on over, noticing the wolf was in his frown-y state. The dragon grumbled, lifting the wolf up with an arm as gently as he could and taking his place on the couch, the canine settled above him. Chris smiled, setting his head down on top of Elias' own, his enormous arms wrapped over the canine's frame for warmth.
"Mind telling me what's up? You're never this quiet. Usually I see you playing your music or watching TV, hah." Chris offered.
Elias scowled and looked up at him. "Just kinda thinking about things, you know? I'm happy I got this place and to be with you, but..."
Chris nodded in response. Ahh, that old train of thought. Despite being younger, Chris had that trail of thoughts one time too many. It happened whenever the topic of going to college came into play. He didn't exactly know what he wanted out of his future except to be with Elias, so achieving higher education never really appealed to him. He had a job and liked it, and he was even aiming to get promoted. But then there was Elias and school and the like.
"Okay, I think I get ya. For now, I wouldn't worry about it." Chris rumbled, nuzzling near his boyfriend's cheek. Elias glanced at him with a confused look on his face.
"Don't get me wrong, its right to worry and all, but worrying too much isn't gonna help either of us. I worry about you and then that whole stuff happens." He chuckled, waving a hand.
Elias frowned a bit. He did have a point, but the nagging worry was still there. He nuzzled into the larger dragon's arms with a small smile on his face.
"But yeah, you have a point. We got this little victory for now, may as well enjoy it." Elias' small grin grew larger the more he pressed himself onto his boyfriend. Christ adjusted himself, letting one arm drape across the wolf's torso and another near his side. The two enjoyed their embrace, the minor cold easily fought away.
"See, that's what I'm talking about." Chris nodded, passing over Elias' guitar over to the wolf. He took it with a nod, leaning up to kiss the dragon on the cheek. He started practicing with his guitar again, this time hitting a few more happy notes in tune with his state of mind. Granted, he was still worried about what was to come. But at the very least, he didn't have to tackle anything alone, which was the best thing about getting this apartment. In some way, it probably wasn't about the apartment, but rather just being with Chris. As long as the two of them were together, he didn't have to worry about anything else. He had the inspiration for his music here, so if he wanted to go that way, he'd be set for years to come. If he wanted to keep going in school, he was sure that Chris would help him as best he could.
