Inferno High - Chapter 13
#13 of Inferno High
Well, another month went by, and now Thanksgiving is only a day away! Anyways, enjoy, leave feedback, and don't forget that you're awesome!
I felt the cold autumn breeze through my fur, and saw the sky blacken over head. It was late November, and we were all heading towards the cafeteria for dinner. Alex had sort of shut up since Halloween, but most of us hadn't really noticed, and we didn't really care. Before he'd at least joke about his feelings but now he didn't even consider talking about them. It was like he'd decided that feelings are for losers, and refused to let us know what was bothering him.
Of course, Ted's family offered to have him over for Thanksgiving, which would be interesting. Also, we'd arranged that me and my parents would come over as well, but my parents said they'd wanna check some of the houses in the area. Of course, they valued my opinion on the subject, which was nil as long as the house wasn't too small and was in Amberstone City.
This was the last dinner we'd eat here before break. It was Tuesday, and mine and Ted's parents would get here to pick us all up tomorrow.
"So, where's everyone going for Thanksgiving?" [Rick]
"Home." [Ted]
"Me and Alex are going to Ted's." [Me]
"Yeah." [Alex]
"We have to go to our granparent's place." [Daniel]
"Yeah, 'cause it's closer." [David]
"My uncle's place is always so boring." [Isaac]
"At least you have an uncle. I only have aunts and sisters and girl cousins." [Zane]
"Wait, but didn't you say girls understand you better?" [Alex]
"Yeah, because I grew up in a massive family of women. My mental process has been warped and influenced by that."
"Huh, interesting."
"Well me and Rick are going to my place, which is always awesome!" [X]
"You know, that would be a lot cooler if we felt comfortable leaving you two together, but chances are you're just gonna do it, so..." [Daniel]
"Yeah, I'm gonna assume that shining a black light in your house after Thanksgiving would be a bad idea." [David]
"Perverts." [Rick]
"We know you are, but what are we?" [Daniel]
"Our equals." [X]
We all laughed at that, including the twins. We were all in too good of moods to have anything dampen them.
In the morning, we were all moving kinda sluggishly. Our parents got here before we were even done packing, except for Alex, who was moving at an unnaturally fast pace for waking up at eight. We finally left at nine thirty, and didn't get to Ted's house until eleven because traffic was slow.
Ted's house surprised me simply by it's elegant size. From the outside you could tell it was three stories tall, with marble pillars in the walls for added support. The wood panels were painted a dull ebony, and each window was framed in white boards, precisely carved for decor and beauty.
The inside was even bigger than we imagined. There was a short hallway and then a massive opening with a fireplace and huge flat screen TV and everything. Seriously, these people were fucking rich as hell. There were about twelve people in the room, but I suspected the rest were somewhere else in the infinitely huge mansion.
As we walked into the main room, I noticed a few people gave me weird looks, so I reached up and covered my snout. I sat down on the couch, hiding the pentagrams from everybody.
An otter in her mid twenties came over to us, "Hey, are these your friends, Ted?"
"Uh, yeah. This is Alex, and Seth, and his parents are thinking of moving here, so... yeah. Guys, this is Kathryn."
"Oh, well it's nice to meet you. It'd also be nice if I could see you face." She said this while starring directly at me. I shook my head, and gave her a pitiful look.
"Seth, what's wrong?" [Dad]
"They changed, dad. They're no where near as easy to hide any more." [Me]
"Why would you hide something? We're all a little strange here. I mean, come on, there's like five religions under one roof." [Kathryn]
"But the christians here would hate me."
"Seth, just move your hands and get it over with." [Mom]
"No..." I suddenly felt something grab my wrists from behind and pull them away. Kathryn got wide eyed, and nodded.
"Okay, that's..." [Kathryn]
"Dangit Alex! Don't worry, they're natural-" [Me]
Alex cupped his hands against my fur lightning fast, "And they glow!"
"The next time you do that I'm gonna hit you upside the head."
"Yeah, sure you will." [Alex]
"So, where else are they?" [Kathryn]
I pulled off my beanie and gloves, showing off the blood red pentagrams tattooing my body. I noticed my parents were interested, too, since they hadn't seen me in two months.
"Wow... That's... Yeah, I get your worries. So, were you adopted or something? I mean, your parents don't have anything like that." [Kathryn]
"He was not adopted!" [Dad]
"I have stretch marks from giving birth to this kid." [Mom]
"What... They said." [Me]
A younger version of ted suddenly popped up out of no where. He looked ten. "Hey, Ted! You're here! Come on, let's play legos!"
"No, not now, Tim." [Ted]
"But why not!?" [Tim]
"Go away, you're being annoying."
"So, I guess you guys want to go talk to our parents and meet people, right?" [Kathryn]
"Yeah, that'd be nice." [Dad]
"Sure." [Mom]
My parents followed Kathryn out of the room, and my attention was suddenly brought back to Tim since he started tugging on Ted.
"Come on!" [Tim]
Ted suddenly growled at his younger brother, "Tim, GIT. You're embarrasing me."
"I'm telling mom!" Tim bolted through the door my parents had gone through.
"Oh my god. Little brothers are so annoying." [Ted]
"Heh heh heh. You don't say." [Alex]
"Yeah, I think that was a given." [Me]
"Seriously, you guys are lucky. Come on, I've got some games in my room." We followed him up a staircase that I hadn't noticed before, and down a long hallway. We finally enterred a room that was clearly Ted's. The bed was buried under sleeping bags, and I honestly wouldn't have been surprised if there wasn't a even bed underneath. The desk had an empty place where a computer belonged, and the dresser was covered in stacks of folded clothes. The bookcase was overflowing with books, and there was a stack of games in the corner, next to a guitar in it's stand.
"You play guitar?" [Alex]
"Shut up." [Ted]
"Dude, you have this whole creative side to you, and yet you refuse to let anyone know about it. What's up?" [Me]
"Nothing. I just... I don't like showing off. It makes me feel like a narsistic jerk. I don't like it when people look at what I'm drawing, or listen to what I'm playing. I can't stand it."
"Dude, that's weird." [Alex]
"Well, why am I so good that other people should sit and admire my work? I'm not. There's no reason for it."
"But what if they want to?" [Alex]
"I won't let them."
"Oh, come on, Ted. Play something." [Me]
"I don't want to."
"Please?" Alex gave him the most pitiful look imaginable. Knowing how much his life sucked, and how pathetic he had made himself look, no one could resist that face. So, Ted sighed in reluctance and grabbed the guitar.
"What do you want me to play?"
"Whatever you want." [Me]
"Uhh..."
"How about 'Take on me'?" [Alex]
"What's 'Take on me'?" [Me]
"An awesome song from the eighties."
"Yeah, I've never even heard of that song. Can't play it." [Ted]
"Oh..."
"How about 'Unrest in the House of Light'?" [Me]
"Now there's a song I can play."
"What's that song?" [Alex]
"Just listen." Ted sat down on the bed and started the tune. After three seconds, he started singing the words to one of my favorite songs.
"You have heard me,
Tell this story,
many times... before you'd sleep.
This time listen carefully...
And I will tell you,
once again.
This time understand that what I'm telling you,
every single word is true.
You need to know.
There was another,
who came before you,
he was a hero and your brother and my son,
he fought the darkness- the darkness won.
Now he fought bravely,
and he died bravely,
but he was foresaken by the ones he wished to save!
And when he died, he died in vain.
You need to-"
He suddenly stopped playing as his door opened, revealing Tim glaring angrily at him.
"Tim, get out!" [Ted]
"No, mom said I could hang out with you guys!"
"Well I revoke that right. Get out!" [Ted]
"No! I'm staying." He stomped in and jumped onto Ted's bed, sinking into the sleepinig bags and pillows.
"If you aren't out of here in five seconds, I'm punching you in the stomach."
"You wouldn't."
"Five..."
"Mom'd kill you!"
"Four..."
"Dad'd force you to-"
"Three..."
"Counting isn't scary!"
"Two..."
"I'm telling!" Tim jumped up and bolted out the door.
"And he's gone." Alex closed the door again.
"Why don't you like him?" [Me]
"He's annoying as heck. Seriously, I'm glad I had to go to boarding school." [Ted]
"Wait, why'd you have to go?" [Alex]
"I was getting bullied at my old school. I didn't feel bullied, but the schools decided to pull me out because of it. You know, because it makes perfect sense to pull the victim out, instead of punishing the bully."
"Wow." [Me]
"Yeah, that sucks." [Alex]
"Eh, I don't really care. My friends had started being jerks lately, and they all had boyfriends and girlfriends. I don't really miss them." [Ted]
"Oh." [Me]
There was kind of a pause in the conversation.
"So? You guys up for a game?" [Ted]
"Uh, sure." [Alex]
"What do you have?" [Me]
