Tobi's Bio

Bio for my Planet of the Apes-verse character Tobi. Based on the recent Planet of the Apes movies (Rise, Dawn, and War)
Tobi is a chimp who was in central Mexico at the time of turning.
Tobi used to be a pet chimp. His owner would dress him up, the owner's fabourite piece being a jaguar head. Tobi came to assiociate the jaguar head with comfort. Tobi's owner was an arhcaeologist from America who was in Mexico to study the Aztecs.
Tobi still an infant when the Simian Flu spreadthroughout the world, some several months after the first group of apes turned. Tobi's owner did everything in his power to protect Tobi, even while civilization collapsed around him. Tobi's owner felt keeping the chimp alove was important somehow
Before his owner died, Tobi learned how to read and speak English and Spanish. He used this knowledge to read of the Aztecs; a subject Tobi's owner was obsessed with. Tobi was ten when his owner became infected. Now living an imminent death sentence from the Simian Flu, he admitted he had become proud of Tobi, and regretted ever owning him as a pet. Before his death, He directed Tobi toward a chimp sanctuary. Tobi felt a sense of sadness at his former owner's death, and decided to burn the body. In his mind, he was honouring the Aztec gods.
He learned how to identify wildlife from books, and gained experience in foraging. He used this knowledge to avoid the humans. Eventually, he was able to fight them. He learned how to make his own weapons much in the same fashion as the Aztecs did: Wide wooden clubs with sharp edges, small spears thrown with a spear thrower, and good ole fisticuffs. He became an accompolished fighter, akin to a warrior. This became less necessary as the humans in the area rapidly died off.
The chimps at the sancutary had not been turned yet ,and had fled the sanctuary into the wooded areas outside the city. Sometime after Tobi joined up with the other chimps, they began exhibiting the same signs of intelligence that Tobi did as the virus spread by contact. Tobi organised the chimps to build their own encampment and store food, to live as a proper society. The chimps came to respect Tobi for what he did for them. Although there were some contests of dominance, Tobi always managed to either beat or make allies of the challengers for dominace. Tobi did not consider himself the ruler: he was well-respected but not their ruler. He was more akin to a group-adviser or speaker - someone who was trusted to carry the word of and speak for the group. He thought himself one of them, and that no chimp was more or less. As such, he did not desire dominance, but to bind the tribe together.
Tobi's group speaks English and uses its own form of sign language developed from gestures; as well as, of course, chimp mannerisms and vocalisations. This form of sign language is, of course, unique to the group and not understandable by the Apes of the Caesar/Cornelius group.
By the time Tobi is 18, his own group entered large-scale conflict with what was left of the humans in the area. Tobi discusses with the group, who decide to move, along a river to the woods up north. Sometime after Tobi reached the age of 24, the scouts of the group began to bring back reports of another group of chimps in a desert a couple hundred miles to the north-west...
