399 pt 2
a bit more of the story '399' unofficial title before I stopped working on it for a new idea for a story. It does not have furies in it but does have animal people... as in game npcs... this is a story I would love to have a cooperation with someone to help create. While my imagination can get me there my writing ability is a bit lacking as proof of my already uploaded stuff.
The story I thought up is called A.I.R.A.I.D. in a post apocalyptic world where a young man (thinking about 15) enters an ancient military base. The Artificial Intelligence of the base or AI discovers this and overrides it's protocols in order to enlist this man, later named Hero by AI, to help restore it's functions. In return AI will use whatever it can in order to help Hero survive and eventually rebuild civilization. However attacks from raiders both in the real world and that of in the box, a digital land AI created to bolster his defenses against an unknown outside enemy using his wireless access to constantly siege it. Hero must deal with threats from the outside of the raiders and other unknown and that of defending AI, who provides him with food and water as well as other things.
anyways back to this story. I may write up more of it another day. right now I am focused on the one I just mentioned. Again contact me if you wish to have a cooperation with it.
Gailia opened the door to find it day outside. She blocked the light till her eyes adjusted and opened it further seeing it was in fact very early. That meant the daily rush had not hit the markets hard yet and fresh product would be more ready. She looked down the streets not very keep being outside and William kept to her flank. She looked back at him and he looked like a decent and loyal guard at least. She started to move down the street and found few about. The daily in city buyers must be done buying and back at their homes or at their jobs but the out of city people must not be about yet. She moves into the street and let William look at her home and those around it. After that she went to the market. The only ones around were bored looking attendants. The first she came to straitened up. Her robe obviously told them who she was. “ Master sorceress, it has been a long time.” Gailia paused to think how long. It was likely before her father died she was here last. “ Yes, I have been in deep study sense I been left my father's position. This is William, my new attendant. I will be sending him in my stead in the future.” William stepped forward. The elderly cat like woman smiled humored seeing him. “ I not seen a human sense the war. So what will it be from my humble shop?” Gailia was tempted to reach for her money but paused from doing so. “ How is my fathers credit?” The old lady shook her head. “ He owed me near five thousand. Always saying he will pay but never did. But after he saved my daughter I kept it rolling. Can you pay it off?” Gailia swallowed hard and reluctantly got her money. “ I'll just pay for what I am getting. I need to restock. Flour, meat, and the other usual items. How much?” The old cat lady looked at Gailia almost surprised in seeing money. Even if it is a few coins. “ Twenty five oZ for three days worth per person.” Gailia's stomach growled again not satisfied with just the cakes from earlier. She also knew where she was going next would take money up front only and no credit. “ Seventy for nine days?” The old woman looked at her amused at the haggle attempt. “ I suppose this time sense you are paying up front.” Gailia nods happy as she takes the owed coins and put them in her hand. “ Delivery service as usual?” The old lady smiled. “ Of course. They will be there within the hour. The same way as your father?” Gailia nods. “ I have not changed the code yet for the drop box. I will come by soon and get more.” Gailia looked away slightly. “ Hopefully with more money for other things.” The old cat lady nods understanding.
After putting her money away again she started moving down the street ignoring the other stands and William took to her side. “ Money is that tight? It seems you need to find an income.” Gailia looked back at him sad. “ I had an income before but now I am a true magician I am not allowed to sell my body like that. Besides I think everyone who would want to anymore with me would want to because I am now a sorceress. I think they paid what they did because I was skilled enough to keep from getting pregnant. Now I am a little older and not as.” She pauses realizing she really did not want to talk about it. “ So with me earlier. How did that apply with your rules?” She shook her head. “ I am not fully sure. I have not broken any rules as others have used their summons like that. Some were summoned for that exact reason. Yet sense we do not know why you are actually here. It is a realm between acceptable and inappropriate, and magic has no rules about decency.” William raised his shoulders. “ And that is not what I originally asked either. How are you going to earn money to keep me fed?” Gailia looked back at him a moment. “ You fed?” William smiled a little. “ You put me out of my means to sustain myself. To me my well stomach is more important to yours.” Gailia could not help but almost laugh to that. There seemed to be no restraint or force in his tone. He said exactly what he meant to. “ Well there is the normal enchanting and potion craft. People always need items imbued with the odd magic ability. Such as boots that do not stink or that marriage ring that always finds your finger after your trip to a brothel or that potion to cure the stomach ache of eating a bad meat pie. There is not much profit in it but the work is always there. After that is the more difficult such as being a healer or a combat wizard. I am in the stage of my career I do not know what I want to do. I never thought about it. In fact where we are going is to find work.” William decided to drop it. Figuring it was just an employment center for magicians. They walked a way down the street before coming to a more formal business section of the city instead of street side or open window shops. Gailia saw a crowd toward the castle and wondered what was going on as she pointed to a bench as they came to be in front of a fancy building with a wizard hat and wand over it. “ Wait there for me. Try not to get into trouble.” William sat down as she went inside. He sat how he figured he should with a sword at his side and a bow and quiver on his back. The one piece robe was a little too big for him but gave him the extra room he needed to sit properly. He sat and looked at the street in front of him. The random shaped rocks laid as brick did not make as much sense to him as square slabs properly aligned but he has already picked up this was not his world anymore, or reality or whatever it is to be called. In truth he knew he should be freaking out. No training could or should prepare a normal person for what has happened to him. Yet he felt himself calm and collected. As if he was on a normal mission when back in the marines. The thought of when he was part of a squad hunting a South American drug lord came to his mind to reveal the darkness of Gailia house to him. His time in Iran for right now. From his thinking he has came to a conclusion. What has happened to him made him a subordinate of Gailia, willing or not, and as such she is his commanding officer. As her soldier his duty is to see to her missions complete and her protection. Besides she may be his only way home. He smiles slightly at the thought of at least getting laid out of the deal. That he did not expect. Still also she reminded him of his younger brother. At least what she is cooking up is legal and she has not asked for money. Perhaps she knew he had none she could use. William sighed to himself thinking of his nephews. One would be six and the other five now. Both taken away. The number of vacation days he had to spend babysitting and he will never hear the words of being called uncle again. As he was thinking he heard someone run up behind him and before he knew it another had grabbed his shoulder. His hand instantly went to that wrist. “ You dare?” Before the other could finish William was already behind the attacker with the held arm firmly in his grasp. “ Unhand me you!” Before his captive could finish that sentence William had pushed him down the street. To avoid as much trouble as he could he limited the physical confrontation between them before putting distance from them. The other turns back to him angry with three more coming in. “ You dare you lowly cur! Do you not know who I am?” William remained silent. He has dealt with his kind before. The loud mouth with no respect to any but himself and his own ego. The four draw their swords and notice he was not watching their upper bodies. William remained still. “ What are you too afraid to draw your sword?” William remained still and quiet still. He knew if he would draw his sword, a weapon he knew little how to use, or say anything that that would escalate the situation into a fight. He watched as the four moved closer and separated to better surround him. He noticed they knew a little about tactics at least. He kept watching their feet as another yells out on horseback. “ That is enough!” The four step back turning seeing the new person land on their feet with a thud of weight. “ Captain Kiazer! I thought you were at the ceremony?” William could hear the other very annoyed with the one that spoke. “ I heard a rumor that some young knights were going to fetch the princess.” William heard the four that were there first gulp all at once. “ Nothing like that captain, sir. We were just asking the fine lady if she wished to go on a stroll.” The captain growled at them angry. “ If your fathers were not nobles I would have you strung up by your feet. Now get out of here.” They all snickered like spoiled kids getting away with a crime as they ran as the other came to him. William saw a reptile like hand reach into his sight. “ Greetings stranger and thank you.” William looked up to the other, who was like Gailia, he however was very fit in body. Towering over him by more than a foot easy and must have Gailia body weight extra in muscle on him to Gailia. William thought this was a friendly greeting and extended his hand as well. While unsure of the gesture it was remarkably similar to a hand shake but at the wrist. “ Oh, a grip on you. A combat wizard are you? Explains your skill and nerve of steel.” William shook his head. “ The robe is on loan as is my arms. As for skill it is nothing without a mind knowing how to use it. Nerve is nothing if you do not have the strength to wield it.” The other laughed out loud hearing that. “ Truer words never said. I must reward you stranger for aiding the princess. Then I will retrieve her.” William shook his head. “ I did not act for reward. They disturbed my wait. Took to threatening me. I sought to end the conflict with minimal trouble.” The other took a more closer look at him. “ Ah, a foreigner, I should have noticed. I assume you got a passport?” William looked at the door behind him. As he did it opened and Gailia came out. As well as another finely dressed woman like her. William nods his head and took to Gailia side. She had a mildly unamused look on her.
Gailia looked at the open job list and the cost to take it on as well as the reward. She barely had enough money for basic healing balm contracts. At best were the children toy ones. She sighed annoyed wanting at least something she needed to read up on. She takes a healing balm contract and paid the price for it and got it registered to her. The more of them she makes the more she will earn at least. With William helping she may at least make a little extra cash before her food runs out again. As she starts to turn to leave the door opens for a non magician, or at least an unregistered one. She was pretty and wealth by what she wore. Her breath was breathing hard. Gailia thought nothing of it except she then noticed a locket around her neck and took to a knee and bowed her head. “ Princess!” Her word caught the princess's attention. “ Are you a magician? I want to hire you right now!” Gailia was surprised. “ I do not know how much help I can be, but I am willing to aid you.” A voice behind the counter speaks up. “ All jobs must go threw contract for those in the order.” Gailia growled annoyed as she got a quill and ink from her robe and went to a desk. As fast as she could she wrote up a contract of aid between the two and after it was filled and signed and notarized they were out the door. What they saw was surprising. William was shaking the hand of the head captain of the guard. He then looked over to them and without hesitation joined her flank. She was mildly annoyed it was all over already. Anything was better than making balms or toy enchanting. “ Uncle!” Gailia notices William slightly react hearing that. The princess went to the captain and hugged him tightly. “ Uncle they were going to. They wanted to.” Gailia could hear the sobs that turned to tears as the captain put his arm around her. “ Mam, we should return and get some rest. You look tired.” Gailia realized she probably has not slept in three days and nods. The captain rubs his niece gently on the shoulder with his hand that was holding her. “ There is still the matter of his immigration status.” Gailia looked back at William and he looked at her puzzled. It was not like he wanted to be here either. “ Head captain, my apologies but this man was summoned by me not a day ago. Notice of him being here has just been put threw as is the law. As you can see his ownership is currently defined by wearing a robe of my family.” The captain looked at William. He was looking at his feet just like he was doing to the knights before. That made him pause and think that William may be considering him a threat. “ In that case I have no say in the matter. Come, we too must leave these fine citizens.” The two turn to leave to opposite directions and William leaned in to Gailia. “ Did you find work?” Gailia paused and turned back to the princess, who also heard. “ That is right. You hired me to stop the attack.” The captain looked back at them surprised. “ It was your man who stopped them and he declined a reward.” Gailia looked at William annoyed and William only raised his shoulders. The princess giggles humored. “ Sense the contract did not specifically what job you were to do I guess you can come to the castle and tutor me instead.” Gailia and the captain looked at her surprised. Gailia bowed in response pleased. “ It will be my honor my princess. As soon as the status of my servant is confirmed and my current contract order is done I shall send word to you via the order I am free to devote my full attention to you.” The princess nods happy and they went to separate again. This time the separation was successful. The princess was on her uncles horse when they got back into the castle again. They tried to be discreet but as soon as it was noticed it became a big deal. It took hours for the calm to come from the initiation ceremony of her oldest brother being nominated the heir. Her uncle kept to her side the entire time. She seemed more excited than normal he noticed. He guessed doing the first act of her own will in her life made her happy. There was little freedom for a royal he knew.
Gailia arrived at her home with William after ordering the supplies for the balms she knew she may need. He shop linked their stock of the products to her home delivery and storage system so what she got she did not need to travel half way across the city every time she ran out of something. After the job was done the order would get an invoice for the expenses to be taken from her cut of the contract. By what she gathered balms cost five oZ to make per bottle. Sense she will get twenty per bottle made and the order will take one balm for their own out of every three she was looking at twenty five oZ every three bottles. With the contract stating that they will buy every bottle she makes based on quality standard met she was confident she could make about one hundred bottles before her food ran out. “ Gailia I see you are about.” Gailia looked behind her to the voice calling for her. “ Esidar, what brings you by?” William stepped back seeing Gailia recognize the cat man. “ I been wondering when you would come out. I was at the ceremony when one of my men heard you about. I see the rumor is true that you are now a full magician.” Gailia grabs her own robe pleased. “ Not by choice but it was time I grew more responsible anyways.” Esidar smiled pleased. “ You know you were always my favorite girl.” Gailia shook her head almost blushing. “ I do not do that anymore.” Esidar raised his hands. “ I know you can not work like the other girls now because of the rules of the order. However that does not mean we can not still see one another and give each other gifts.” Gailia paused hearing that. Such an obvious loop hole should be a trap. “ I am sorry Esidar but as I said I do not do things like that anymore.” Esidar put a hand behind his head. “ Well I had to try. Still getting under your robe was not the only reason why I am here. You know you still owe quite a bit by up and leaving suddenly. I had to break in two new girls the hard way devaluing them to cope with your clients.” Gailia looked away angry. “ I had no contract with you.” Esidar grabs her robe at the chest. “ That does not null our agreement.” Gailia looked at him strictly. “ Take me to court if you think you can win.” He growled as he let her go. “ I was hoping to hire you to oversee the girls for you to pay off the debt. I was even willing to offer you bonuses.” Gailia looked at him more annoyed and angry now. “ What you do with the girls you hire from contract from their parents has no concern with me. As I been trying to hint at that life is behind me and I have no interest in going back.” Esidar looked at her angry as well before looking at William. “ It is him isn't it. You found someone better to screw, isn't that right? Well lets see how much you like him when he is face down in a ditch dead!” Gailia froze hearing Esidar and could only watch as he drew a knife and went after William. To her surprise he grabbed the armed hand with only one of his own. William put his other under it as he gripped it tighter and made his hand buckle before the blade fell. William then put it back on Esidar's belt. “ You son of a.” William squeezed again and a pop came from Esidar's captive hand. “ Would you please leave?” Esidar nods hurriedly and William let him go. Esidar gripped his hurting hand as he ran off. William gestured to the door and they went inside.
Gailia laid on the bed in one of the clean spare rooms. She had slept so long she was no longer tired but she was in no mood to move around. What happened to Esidar was on her mind. Owner of the biggest brothel in the city was something to be proud of in it's own way. In some way she always knew he was after her home more than anything. A magic building like it is can have hundreds of rooms in such a small space while the tax on his building ate up a lot more of his profit. While she was a free woman she often worked there. He did treat his girls well compared to many places she has been. Now she is a sorceress. She has to think of things in a magic stand point. Then there was the fight. William moved little and said as much. His actions were highly planned. She realized she had given him one order. Not to make trouble. With what happened with the knights known in detail over dinner before bed it made sense. He was a trained warrior. Cook was another story. She smiled however thinking of watching him cook. He started doing so after finding what was where without orders. The thought of food also made her want something to eat again. How long did she really fast she wondered. How long has she kept herself in her home before he came. She shook her head and closed her eyes again ready to get a little more rest. She was unsure how long passed before nodding off again but she awoke to the door getting a knock on it. She wondered who knew she was in there, or how. “ Enter!” There was a pause before the door cracked open. “ Here you are.” The door opens further to reveal William with a plate in his hand. Unlike her last meal this one was a lot lighter. “ I made this for you.” Gialia smiled again gently. William noticed. “ Are you angry?” Gailia looked at him puzzled. “ What no, I am pleased. I needed something to eat.” William released his breath suddenly but slowly and turned to leave. “ Why did you make this for me?” William looks away before answering. “ You need to eat to stay healthy. I am your subordinate after all.” Gailia looked away ashamed even asking as he starts to leave. “ As soon as you are ready we should get ready to work.” William then starts leaving and Gailia looks at the food.
After eating Gailia led William to one of the houses labs. “ I will need your help.” William sets his torch in a stand as the room brightens up. “ In that box you will open it and find all we will need. Grab three of the red herbs, one of the three leaf green ones and one of the four leaf ones.” William nods as he grabs the herbs and Gailia was in another box with bottles and tools. After that she grabs a book and grabs the contract. “ All right it will be easier if you helped me. This is a mortar set. What you do is you take one of the green herbs and grind it up.” Gailia shows him by doing it herself in one. “ Next you put that into a bowl. After that you grind the three leaf green and pour that into the bowl. Then the other two red and the last green that is four leaf at the same time.” She shows him the process revealing a three level mixture. “ Now you add water. This is important. The quality of the balm depends on how much you use. If you use too much or if it is tainted by a bad herb or something then the mixture will become watery and the balm will not apply that well without the need of a bandage. If you do not use enough water then the balm will become hard before you cap and must be made into a powder to be applied on bandages. Do you understand?” William nods. Gailia finished by using the cup of water to pour it in the bowl she sturs it up and the soup quickly dries out. She takes a small jar and a strait stick and takes the mixture with it to put in the jar but before it was in there it hardened. She sighed annoyed. “ Not enough water.” William looked at it intrigued. This was another new thing to him but it also reminded him of very fast drying cement. “ What do I do with the bad batches?” Gailia points to a barrel. “ The batches with too little water put in there. It can be shipped to a medical clinic for less than the cost but it is something back. As for the too watery they will be bought for about the half the money back as the dry to be merged with other items.” William nods understanding. He grabs more herbs to start another batch. “ Before you start you need to clean the last so it does not affect this batch. Simply wash the tools you used out and set them out to dry.” William nods again and washes the tools out before setting them out to dry. Gailia already looked bored as she got another set of everything needed again. “ Would you rather prepare lessons for the princess?” Gailia looked at him please. “ Yes, I would. Do you think you can handle this then? Make as many as you can. They will buy them all.” William nods as he got to work on the next batch. Gailia became happy she did not need to do the work. He seemed confident in his ability to perform the task and almost seemed eager to start. She decided if he can at least make a dozen good bottles before having to start dinner then the extra failures will be paid in full by the done ones and the failures will make her the profit. Sense the order will not take those. She will get about fifty oZ profit for the day and will still be able to read and learn. She figured the princess would desire how to protect herself to some degree. Learning hand wards would be a must. Depending on the princess's magic efficiency will deem her course of tutelage. Deeming Gailia how she will learn some of her own magic so she can teach it. She decided to get started with the basic wards of combat and defense. After that beginner harnessing of magic. Magic bolts were next. Being able to prevent yourself from harm was good but stopping an attacker from attacking was also important. These were all things Gailia could already do but a refresher on them was never a bad thing. After reading up on several more books relating to how the magic could branch off to be specialized she realized she had been gone a while and she wondered how William has done. She decided to check to see how many he had done and if he had cooked yet. She returned to the lab surprised to see a stack of creates in the hall. She takes one of the bottles in a create and opens it and dabs the balm. To her surprise the mix was perfect. The balm was as smooth as silk and applied on the skin in a layer of protection. She opens the door to find William on the table asleep. In front of him was a large container used for larger ingredient potion used instead of a bowl. She became shocked realizing that he made all those herbs in a very large batch. The level of precision needed to do that was something only a master potion maker could do. She smiled again pleased with him coming to her again. She considered for a moment he was a good thing that happened to her. At least for now. She opens the palm of her hand and the glowing sphere appeared again. “ Levitation.” After she spoke William raised out of his seat and fell limp. She decided to do some quality checks after putting him to bed. She wondered how long she had been gone as well. She thought less than half a day but by the look of it it could be even more. She really needs to figure out her own time schedule she decided as she puts him on the bed in his room.
Gailia quickly returned to find that each bottle of balm was almost exactly the same. With the exception of a few in one create set to the side each seemed to have both the same quality and quantity in them. Each create held four high, four deep and six wide and there was over thirty of them. Even getting the portion right with the herbs and water putting them all into bottles would have been tiring and time consuming. Not to mention each batch from the kettle would at best fill one create. Then she started doing the math. Assuming there were thirty creates the order will take ten of them as their due. A quarter of the total will be used for expenses of the product or seven and a half creates off the remaining twenty. Making twelve and a half. Each bottle will net her eight oZ taking the extra off for unexpected expenses due to failures. She will keep the half case for her own storage that was apparently done first leaving twelve creates of ninety six bottles in each that will earn her eight oZ totaling almost ten thousand oZ. With that much she can pay off all the debts of her family and not need to work for years. That not counting the failure costs and expenses. Sense she did not see any set to the side for being too watery except a few she guessed he must have normally underwatered the balm mix. She confirmed this by finding the barrel to dump the mix in was half full. It seemed to her he did it as she told him to for a while then when he figured out how to do it properly consistently he moved to up sizing the task. She confirmed this by finding the weight scale used and his black book beside it. She figured for now this may be the best place for it as she left the lab to go to bed as well.
