Freedom Fire Epilogue: The Dawn of Freedom (END)
#15 of Freedom Fire
So, this is it. Another Story Series done, and it's still not over yet, as I am also starting The Seventh War, until I finish everything like my studies.
I am kinda rushed when doing this story, so if everything I wrote leave plot holes and stuff, remind me so. I appreciate everything.
And from here, there will be no happy ending...
"You survived...I'm so grateful the ancestors gave you another chance. And...Ragunost, I'm in your debt..."
"Kranos, I'm sorry, I...I'm not strong enough..."
The sea dragon, despite of looking like a zombie, tried to make weak smile. While Konaz had been imprisoned in the darkness dimension, his power was still channeled to Kranos, which meant that the dragon was still alive despite of getting fatal injuries. A black dragon came to the dragon, and Seraphor was stunned by its visage. The dragon was a female, but it looked more like a cross between a dragon and a raven. Her tail, or tails, lashed around, but it didn't indicate her emotion right now. Seraphor could see the solemn look of her face. It was a lonely one.
"Kid, you've grown to be a good dragon. Ragunost here must have been proud for your strong will and nobleness. You're truly the fire to our freedom. You gave us hope, and you helped us. I may have a thing to say with my ancestors."
"But you won't be alive for the next generation to come. My time also comes to an end, eventually."
"Until that time, young Seraphor...be the light of hope to the dragons of both the West and the South. Your Cerbesan friend...and your Parusan friend are the first things you can see. Those two sides never got together, but with your help, they become friends."
"He's right," said Karkariz while trying to help Anoki to stand at his side, supporting him on his shoulder. "This feud ends in this prison."
"There may be sacrifices and catching up to do, but Karkariz will be my first Parusan friend and ally," said Anoki with a smile. "I never thought this day will happen."
"Heh, we both are still whelps, after all."
The raven-dragon stared back at Seraphor, which gave him a weird feeling, as if he knew the dragon she was. They locked their gazes long enough for Seraphor to realize the dragon was the one he had been waiting for 10 years. She had been inside his dreams for many times. He wanted to talk, but Kranos stopped him and said, "I want to say, I'm proud that I've ever met Western dragons. You chaps are great dragons. I am also proud to myself to meet so many legendary dragons. I met the last Silver Red Dragon, the Thunder Angel, and the Angel of Death herself. Maybe you don't see her, but she's standing in front of me. I think...this is my time. Goodbye, friends. Have a...long life."
The dragon then touched Kranos' head as the sea dragon closed his eyes, accepting his fate. In an instant, Raithorakh didn't sense the dragon's life anymore. He's dead, finally able to see his ancestors and talk of his life. He then smiled, content on seeing such a peaceful death.
Then Seraphor made a sigh and wanted to release the dragon's chains, but the dragon stopped him, and finally said, "He won't need a burial."
Seraphor couldn't hold his feelings anymore. He quickly stood up on his back legs and grabbed the feathered dragon. It surprised her, but Seraphor quickly put his maw over the dragon's own maw, and he felt the same tongue he had loved since they were young. He missed her so much, and now he was overwhelmed by happiness that he shed a tear.
"Ancestors, thank you," said Seraphor while watching the sky. "You returned me everything I loved."
"I don't get what are you saying, Seraphor. That black dragon is as silent as death. Are you sure you're not inflicted with death?"
"I knew her the first time I saw her eyes. She's my love, she's...Avila."
"He's right, Ray," said Avila with a smile. "Everything returns to all of us."
As his scanner showed that it was indeed Avila, Raithorakh made a roar, alongside the other free dragons that heard him. Just seconds later, the dragons all over the prison started to roar, shaking the walls and shattering the glass. They all roared in unison, giving out the strong voice that drove the losing side away from the prison, especially the humans who were scared of the united roar of freedom. The Parusans that were still loyal to the Dragonsbane were either killed, captured, or ran away, while the rest were peacefully inducted into the rank. Some Cerbesans were still bitter on the Parusan's behavior to them, but Karkariz and the rest of the wardens ensured them that not all Parusans were bitter with the Cerbesans, and also some Parusans had the same fate with the Cerbesans.
Amretriel, after watching the dangerous dragons in action, decided not to run away and gave himself in, somehow too scared to get the same fate as the slayers. Since Amretriel wasn't even in the front line of the tortures and acted as Konaz's supervisor, he wasn't killed by the Cerbesans, yet some Parusans thought that it was an act of cowardice.
With Raithorakh's help and Amretriel's map, the western dragons finally got a place to come home after thinking at first that without any sense of direction, the dragons would be forced to live in the South. There were a total of around half a hundred dragons remained with them. Half of them were Cerbesans, and the rest were dragons of many races and kind. They stayed for the night, mostly talking with others still sane enough to talk to. Anoki turned into a cheery dragon after he found his peers, and this made Seraphor glad. What made him even happier was how Avila finally found happiness with his father. Despite of changing her appearance, the Argoon dragon was still his love, as she never changed into her past.
The silver red left them and started to walk to the fire. The heat made him relaxed. It had been forever since he got a good fire in the cold night. The other dragons also thought about that too. He watched the fire flickering in front of his eyes, slowly putting him into a good night sleep.
And just then, as he woke up, did he found his mate, watching the sky silently. He didn't feel afraid on her, not after what both had achieved for years. He approached Avila and said, "You're not tired?"
"Since my transformation I prefer waking up at night. It's nice to see stars and the night sky, now that I'm a death dragon."
"But you're still Avila, right? I mean, are you going to leave me soon?"
Seraphor could see she made uncomfortable pause, but before he could say something to change the topic, Avila turned to him and said, "I won't, Sera. I'll always be there for you."
"And you for me, Vila."
They watched the sky in silence for a moment, before saying, "Xiciro sure is a nice father. I wish I had one like him."
"Yes...maybe."
"So, now that's he's here, is he, uh...is he?"
"What is it, my love?"
"You know...about us? Now that I know he's your father and he had that Emero Carought thing, won't he, uh, put me in a dark void because I mated with you or, uh..."
Seraphor could see Avila giggle, and laughed slowly, which prompted Seraphor to nervously follow, before she said, "Well, you know me, right? He might want to get straight with you when we have time, maybe you'll lose your scales or your pride and..."
The silver red started to shiver on that thought, but Avila said, "I was just kidding, Sera! My father is not a demon; he's just a nice black Argoon dragon. He's even eager to know that he had a son-in-law. He's just lonely, Seraphor." "Yeah, I guess some dragons need more love than others."
As they talked through the night, Seraphor sensed the first heat of the day and started to turn to the east. There was a strip of sunlight coming from the ruins of the prison, and he told Avila to follow him up to the broken cobblestone wall. As he climbed the wall, he could see the sea, and he saw that the prison was really facing the sea with a cliff behind it. Both saw the sunrise as Seraphor cuddled Avila with his tattered wing. All came back to the old times when they watched the sunrise from their cave, and they both stared at each other passionately.
"I wish we could end this sooner," said Avila. "I don't want this scenery to die with us."
"Don't worry, my love," said Seraphor while getting his maw closer to nudge Avila's snout. "Nothing's gonna change my love for you."
As their tongues locked together, Seraphor wondered if the song lyric was truly the one he wanted. Would the song be able to capture their wish? Seraphor just wished the world survived longer. West and South might be friends, and there was still a war going on, but he kept thinking about his future with Avila.
He just wanted a life without war. He wanted a family....
