#2 of Baseball in Winter (redux)

The continuation of Baseball in Winter, the rewritten version.

I'm rewriting the this story to get back in the mindset of writing! :3

Ciyter servayed the lunch room, checking each of the tables to find his friends. His eyes rolled over the din of the crowd, then in the back he noticed Ket sitting all alone. He was slowly munching on the fries he had gotten from the lunch line, a whole piece of pizza still left untouched. Ciyter hoped that he hadn't heard what Travis had said yesterday from the car. To Ciyter the guy seemed ok, sure being gay was a little strange and he didn't think he agreed with it but as long as the fox didn't bring it up he was going to be ok.

"Yo Ciyter! What'cha looking at? Get your ass over here!" His ears perked and he turned to see his group of friends all sitting at the front table, displaying their popularity to everyone. Ciyter smirked and quickly forgot his thoughts on Ket.

"And then the husky raises his tail and says come at me!"

The table burst into laughter as Ciyter sat down with his lunch tray. "What's the joke?"

One of his other friends Gavin tried to retell it. But failed misirably.

"Sorry I guess you had to be there from the beginning."

The brown furred wolf shrugged and started on his lunch as the conversation quickly changed to sports and their odds at the next meet on thursday, two days away.

"As long as Ciyter is there we should be fine!" Another friend jabbed. The school had been undefeated as long as Ciyter had been there, which was about a year and a half. He'd moved to the town after his father had been trasfered to the airplane factory from his other job. Already he had broken many of the records that had been held by previous students.

"You going to do the backstroke?" The friend asked.

Ciyter nodded and took a bite. "Oh yeah, been working on it for a while. I plan to break my old record!"

After a state championship everyone was expecting that he was going to do it again and while it was a big deal, to Ciyter it seemed just like another thing to do. Suddenly his eyes cought a glimse of Ket again and he lingured to long on him.

"Ciyter? What's wrong?" Gavin asked him.

The wolf shook his head to break the daze and looked back at his friends, "What? No, I'm fine. Just zoned out is all."

"No, I mean you're looking over at Ket over there."

He shrugs, "Yeah, so. What's the big deal, he's my science partner."

The whole of them giggled as Ciyter thought back to the story Travis had told him yesterday. Ciyter pretended to giggle along with them, but he didn't find it funny at all. He had come from the west coast where this sort of thing was accepted, and while his parents were old fasioned he certinly wasn't.

"Well I still have him as a science partner."

His friends all look at each other, "Just don't get too close to him. Don't want you turning gay on us."

Another one spoke, "yeah, could you imagine. Ciyter and Ket, sitting in a tree K-I-S-S-I-N-G."

Suddenly a growl grew from his stomach "It's not gonna turn to that!" He barked seemingly in defense.

His friends all sat back and shut up; most of them had never heard him growl before, unless it was in a game or something. Ciyter growling was completely out of the norm. The bell rang for sixth period and broke the silance. Travis turned to him and looked at the wolf with dead eyes.

"It'd better not."

"Wow, Ket, you did this all last night?" Ciyter said after looking at the outline that Ket had created last night. "That's like as much work as I could do in a week." He felt embaressed now about how much he had accomplished last night, which was almost next to nothing. One page, if that, of random stuff he had found on wikipeadia and the first google sites that came up after typing in Jupiter.

"I'd better step it up a notch.

"Well....I already knew a little bit about it." Ket spoke to Ciyter for the first time, it actually threw Ciyter off guard slighly, but it was nice that he had opened up enough at least talk to him, and it also showed that he had not heard Travis the day before. His voice was soft and soothing, yet fairly distinct. He liked it.

"Where did you learn all of this stuff!" He asked scrolling throuhg it again.

"Just...places." He said looking around for something. "Hold on, need to go grab a pencil."

Ciyter watched the white fox go back to his desk. Ket bent down and started ruslting through his backpack trying to find a pencil. Ciyter watched Ket's tail raise and unintentionally show off his rump. Suddenly, a shiver shot down his spine and a heat wave hit him. Ciyter closed his eyes and shook his head. What was that? Ket came back and wrote down his name at the top of the paper.

"You alright?" He asked, noticing that Ciyter had stiffend up like a board.

Ciyter felt himself start to feel uncomfortable and his member started to grow hard inside his pants as the fox moved closer to him.

"Oh...uhh, yeah yeah. Just nothing."

The rest of the class was spent in silance between them and once the bell rang Ciyter ran to his car and slammed the door shut locking them. What just happened? He stood shaking as he breathed. Could it be? He rubbed himself slightly. Nah can't be. No it isn't. It was probably just a fluke. Probably something else, that he had just thought of. But the image was burned into his head, the sight of that that white tail flickering slightly and his shapely ass.

"No no no no no no no! Shut up!" He hit himself in the temple to try and force the memory out of himself. He opened his eyes and saw a couple of she-wolves walking by, he followed their curves and breathed a small sigh of relief. They still seemed hot to him.

Still in his relief Ciyter started his car and started the drive home. He smiled reassuring himself that it was nothing, and that it wouldn't happened again. It was really just nothing. The slush of the road made it difficult and he drove slow once again. A figured on the side of the road appeared once again and already Ciyter could recognize who it was. It was Ket, walking home in the cold alone like yesterday. The heat hit Ciyter once again and he looked away pushing further down on the gas. His wheels spun slightly drawing a look from Ket who sees the car speed off. Ciyter pulled up in front of his house taking deep breaths, what was happening?

****************************************************************************************************************

Ket quietly walks though his house, careful not to disturb Kita or she'll ask him how is day went. He really didn't want to go through the whole ritual of them digging into what he had done for the day. He tip-toes up stars, throws his backpack to one side of his room and stands in front of his dresser. The picture of his dad stared back at him. His eyes happily looking at his only son, wondering what new thing he was going to do next. Ket's paws rest on a drawer and with a small breath he opens it. Inside, it's empty except for two small slips of paper, two tickets. They are unused tickets to a baseball game long since passed. Ket's mind brings him back to when he was eleven and his dad came home with them. Promising in two weeks that they'll go and he'll get to go to his first baseball game. Really, his first sports game in general. But, he never went. Just one week later, his dad's plane went down.

The memory of that day drove out the good thoughts and replaced them with horrible things that he somehow could never get rid of. He had just gotten home from school on that lazy thurday afternoon when the phone call came. That was back when his mom was able to actually be home and she picked it up humming a happy tune, in the midst of putting in a roast. Ket didn't know exactly what was said on the other line, but he remembered looking in from the living room while watching T.V and watching his mother fall to her knees. "Mom?" He remembered asking but she didn't respond. Her paw let go of the phone and it tumbed to the ground. It wasn't until she drove them to the hospital that he found out what had happened. There was no goodbye, no last words, he couldn't even see his father. The crash had killed him instantly. Again he didn't find out until many years later that mom couldn't even see him, he had already been creamated.

But, he had saved the tickets as a reminder to his dad, as a living memory. Carefully picking them up like they were some sort of religuous artificat he sits on the edge of the bed. Outside clouds started to form and Ket layed back watching his ceiling. All he wanted was someone to talk to, it really didn't matter if they understood or not. The only thing that mattered would be that they were going to be there and be there for him. For a few moments he thought of nothing, but gradualy a name started to appear in his head. Ciyter. But how? He had never had a real coversation with him. But Ket wasn't going to lie to himself the wolf was more then a little good looking, he was built very well. But would he be enough for an emotional attachment? Ket turned over and eyed his backpack remembering that Ciyter had a swim meet tomorrow. Ket looked down at the tickets in his paws. It was worth a shot.

*********************************************************************************************************************

Ciyter watches his ceiling warp in the absence of light. He was always interested in how darkness plays tricks on your eyes, watching the darkness move around like it was alive. The clock next to him reads 12:34 and somehow he still isn't asleep, something is keeping him awake, something he had never felt before. Some type of apprehension stuck with him making him a little sick to his stomach, like there were butterflies fluttering around in his stomach. But what was causing it? The swim meet? No, he's gotten over those nerves a long time ago. He rolled over and forces his eyes shut, trying to clear his head. Most of it he is able to force out but he sees one specific fox, one small white fox bending down to grab something. For a second he reaches down and starts playing with himself to the image. But only after a few seconds he pulls back his arm cursing at himself, what was he doing? That was his classmate, and a male! If his friends knew that he was having these thoughts for a second they would disown him like no tomorrow. He throws back the covers and makes his way down the stairs to the kitchen. Blackness covers it like a blanket. Ciyter makes his way to turn on the faucet, letting the cool water runs through his paws.

"What's happening to me?"

Ciyter quitely pulls down a glass and fills it to the brim. He didn't want to wake his parents and takes one sip, the cold liquid wets his dry muzzle and runs down his throat. Another thought invades his mind, just a singular word. A single three letter word. Gay. The wolf shakes his head and squeezes his eyes shut trying to push it out. A few short breaths later, he finishes the rest in one gulp and makes his way back to his bed. Hopefully he'd get a few hours of sleep.

*********************************************************************************************************

Ket read some of his notes while typing on the computer, beside him sat Ciyter much more reserved than usual. Ket couldn't help but notice the wolf hasn't actually said anything at all which was fairely unsusal for him. After making some quick glances at him and noticing his eyes never actually moved away from the paper in front of him, Ket can't help but come out of his shell.

"Ciyter?"

The wolf jumped at his name, "Wha?"

"What's wrong with you? You haven't talked all day."

He didn't want to be honest with Ket, he didn't know what to think. The only thing that stuck in his mind was those images of Ket from last night and having Ket acutally here made it worse. In fact, his mind imagined the fox wearing nothing more then a small thing of lingure, mixing what his normal porographic thoughs were with this new one. The wolf closed his eyes and shook his head, playing that he was tired. Quickly, he thought of an excuse.

"Oh, it's just my dad. He...he's just pushing me that's all."

Ket took the answer and ended the conversation to continue filling out the powerpoint. Ciyter sat there in silence.

The door to the classroom opened and a messenger from the office came in and told Mrs. Granker something. She nodded and looked up at Ket and Ciyter's work station.

"Ciyter come up here please." He glanced up from his paws, "yeah."

He hopped off the stool and made his way to the teachers desk where Ket watched her tell him something. He came back without any change in his emotion.

"What was that?"

The wolf sighed, "Just our swim meet. It's been moved up to three because of the snow in the forecast." Ket let his eyes drift to the ground and he slowly nodded. "Ok." They worked in silence for the rest of the period.

********************************************************************************************************

When the bell finally came to rescue Ket had already finished up the project. He gave a quick paw signal of goodbye to Ciyter and grabbed his things to leave for home. Only he didn't go home, the white fox waited outside until after Ciyter left the classroom and followed him to the pool. It was housed in a separate building from the rest of the school and Ket had actually never been inside of it. Ciyter went around back to the locker rooms and Ket tried to stay inconspicuous as he seached for a seat in the back bleachers. Hopefully out of sight of the wolf. Maybe he'll try and meet up with him after word.

The swim meet was long, and not something Ket was accustomed to. He sat lonely waiting for Ciyter to make his swim. Around him, other classmates and proud parents, as well as dissapointed parents, made cheers and jeers. When Ciyter finally stepped onto the board Ket smiled inside, he waited to see this. The wolf was wearing nothing but a blue speedo, which oddly enough complamented his golden fur. He took a few streatches almost just showing off his body in which Ket was almost drooling over by now. He readied himself at the edge of the pool as other non-aquadic species from other schools did the same. With a pop of the start gun the wolf dove as fast as he could into the clear water. He dove quickly and took an early lead, but others were right behind him stuggling to close the gap that he had made. Ket sat on the edge of his seat as he watched Ciyter zoom past him. The others were biting at his tail but he made it to the end first and turned around for the lap back, it was then he went into his famous backstroke. What little lead he had was increased 3 fold as he raced toward the finish, shaving a hair off of his old record. When he got out of the pool furs were already crowding him and congratulating him on a job well done. It was pretty much a sure thing that they were going to go to state now. Ket smiled and clapped quietly with the rest of the crowd, he was happy for him. But he didn't want to be seen, under the cover of the crowed he dipped out, wearfully standing outside. His had wrestled with the thought of waiting for Ciyter and telling him good job, walking away, or, even the thought of grabbing the Wolf and giving him a kiss got tossed around in his head. All be it for about three seconds. He stood pacing for a few moments before his fear got the better of him and he slowly walked away.

********************************************************************************************************

Ciyter shook paws with all of his teammates and posed for a picture that will no doubt find it's way into the school newspaper and most likely the year book. Then, after shaking paws with his compeditors and congratulating them he headed back to the locker room. He casually strolled into the locker room, where most of his friends were already getting dressed. He went into the showers and turned on the hot water knob.

"Oh, gonna be a hell of a time to get home. With it so cold huh?" He said with a little laughter in his voice. He washed the chlorine out of his fur and walked to the lockers using a towel to dry his head fur. All of his teammates and friends drilled him with judgmental eyes.

"What's wrong guys?" Ciyter laughed, thinking they were playing a joke on him.

Gavin stepped forward and pointed at Ciyter, "I saw one certain white fox in the crowd today."

The blood rushed to Ciyters face, luckily his golden fur prevented it from being seen. Ket had come? Why? What did he want? Ciyters mind raced as he tried to figure it out as well as his 'friends' drilling him with more questions.

"Did you invite him?"

Ciyter shook his head, "of course not. Do you think I would want a queer like that to messy up one of the seats?" He said, trying to sound as genuine as possible, but in his head he just felt like it fell through completely. He didn't know if they'd buy that or no.

His friends shrugged. "I don't know, you're the one who's hanging out with him."

Ciyter pulled down his swimsuit, "Am not!!!" He growled once again. "He's my partner in science. You think I could avoid something like that? Lay off!" His friends pulled back again, he'd growled again.

The other members pulled their wet swimsuits down too.

"Just as long as you're not turning gay." One said turning around and putting his stuff back into his locker.

Ciyter had just about had enough, he swore under his breath. He quickly put his pants on and stormed out of the room, not even wearing his shoes.

When Ciyter got to his car he got in and quickly tied his shoes up, not exactly the smartest idea. Walking barepaw in the snow was just plain stupid, but he had to get out of there. Something wasn't right, as he watched his own teammates get undressed he got aroused. More reenforcemnt that something was happining to him, something that he wasn't quite sure he liked or didn't like. A couple more seconds in there and it would have been more then obvious. He turned the ignition, put the heat on full blast and made his way home.

As he drove throught the slush once again he saw a figure on the right hand side of the road slowly making his way home. His teammates were right, Ket had stayed to watch. But why? Something came over him, a warmth that immeaditly flushed through his body and he wasn't cold anymore. He couldn't let the fox walk home in the freezing weather. The wolf pulled up to the curb and rolled down the passenger side window right beside Ket, who just froze. As he turned and found Ciyter staring at him from the car.

"Hey Ket. It's kinda cold. Want a ride home instead of walking?"

The fox at first instinctively reached out for the door handle but pulled back and his tail drooped between his legs.

"Come on, you'll get home sooner. It's not like I'm going to kitnap you or something."

Then, with hesitation, Ket opened the door and climbed inside of the warm car.

Ciyter watched the fox get in. His little ears twitched on top of his head as he grabed his tail and hugged it, trying not to touch anything. He was cute...he was very cute.

"Where do you live?"

Ket mumbled just loud enough for Ciyter to hear the directions.

"14356 Adler street! That's like a ten minute drive from the school! And you walk it, every day!"

Ket just nodded adding under his breath he hates busses. Ciyter tried to come up with things to say but all he could think of was school related stuff, and he didn't want to talk about that, not at all. Instead the ride became an excersise in handling awkward silance. Most of the stuff he did come up with seemed stupid and made him feel to nosey, so they just sat there until Kets house came into view. He pointed to it, Ciyter pulled up.

"Nice house."

Ket nodded and got out and started walking toward the door. Ciyter almost drove off but a knock at the window prevented him. Ket had come back, he rolled it down. As the white fox had trouble with his words. His ears were down and he didn't look at the wolf directly.

"Hey um, thanks. It was nice to have a ride. You....you umm....you swam good. A....and....and you look good in that speedo."

With that Ket ran with his tail tucked between his legs back to his house and closed the door behind him. All before Ciyter had a chance to respond. A pit formed in Ciyter's throat as he tried to wrap his head around what Ket had just said. The feeling was back, a warmth all around him as well as a blushing. There was really no doubt about it now, he knew that Ket liked him, or at least liked the way he looked. After a couple moments of trying to think, he turned around and drove back to his house.

Parking in front of his house, he lazily walks up to the house and opens the door to find his dad once again waiting for him. Only this time he was standing right in front of the door the moment he walked in. His hands were on his hips and his pipe in his muzzle.

"Where have you been!"

Ciyter shrinks down, "At school! They moved up our swim meet."

"They moved your swim meet?" His father looked at him, not believing it one bit.

Ciyter begged in his defense. "No really! Because of the snow and the busses they moved the meet to three instead of five. I just found out about it in sixth period myself. But I did break my record."

For the time being Eric didn't care, he was too involved in what he was saying and the fact that Ciyter hadn't told him where he'd been.

"Ok, let's say you did have that meet, where did you go after? It doesn't take a half hour to get home from school." He questioned, trying to find a hole in his story.

The wolf shrugged, "I hit all red lights."

Eric growled and stepped forward. "There is only one red light between here and the school."

"Then I stayed after and helped pick up too!" He turned and marched up stairs to the refuge of his room.

"Well you're grounded for the day!" His father erupted while Jen looked out of the study.

"What happened Eric?" She asked.

"It's Ciyter, he's lying about something."

Cityer slammed his door shut and locked it, he didn't want anyone to bother him. It was just as good as he was grounded, then he could spend the night alone. He plopped down into his computer chair and let out a quiet howl, why couldn't his dad just leave his life alone.

"I know what'll fix this." He said to himself. "A little venting."

He turned on the computer and went straight to the internet to start his rant, but when he got there he noticed he had a friend request. The mouse rolled over it, it was Ket. Ciyter's tail lifted and started to wag and he immediately clicked accept.

"Lets see what you have on your file."

His eyes scanned through Ket's personal file and one line stood out above all others.

"Looking for a relationship...Interested in males."

Like a spear the feeling hit him once again, in the heart. After wrestling with it for a few days he finally knew what it was. He finally came to terms with it, or he was just playing dumb with himself. But it didn't take an idiot to figure it out. He was in love with Ket the arctic fox.
