Face Your Fears
Well, to start off my story, let me tell you my name:
I'm Kristyll, and I'm a snow fox. I have a part on my forehead where my fur is long enough to cover my left eye. Speaking of which, my eyes were crystal blue, probably the reason for my name. I also wasn't very "lady-like" at times. I usually wore dark blue shoes, blue jean pants, and a white jacket with a red undershirt. Anyhow, lets begin the story!
It was mid-day on a Friday. I am in college, and it was lunch. Most college students preferred eating outside, on college grounds. Although, the others would be in the library or in class studying or perhaps they just want to avoid conflict from other students.
When I say conflict, either larger students would throw around smaller ones, who can't defend themselves, or the male students would harass female students by grabbing them, snapping their bra, and some other things I don't want to talk about.
I, unfortunately, was pinned to a wall, and a football jock attempt to take my clothing off. I honestly didn't enjoy the awkward touching, poking, or grabbing. Fortunately, the captain of the swim team would "come to the rescue" so to say. His name's Shaun, he's a wolf, and we've been friends since the first grade, when I first moved into the town.
He was the only one who would talk to me to tell the truth. He was always a swimmer.
He'd ask, "Do you want to come swim with me? There's a local pool nearby, or we could go to the lake!"
"I'm sorry, I can't. I have aqua-phobia..." I'd reply to him.
"Really?" He'd say, "What happened?"
"I was nearly dragged out into the ocean from the current, I swallowed so much water... I nearly drowned."
But enough about my past. Let's get on with the present. Me and Shaun went to the same college, so we often ate lunch together, or we'd study and quiz each other on upcoming exams. I think he see's me as more than just a friend.
After college hours, he came up to me and asked "Hey, you want to come to a lake--"
"I told you already." I said. "I'm aqua-phobic."
"Just hear me out," He said, "there's a hill near it, and the view of the lake when the moon hits it just right is amazing!"
My face turned red. Was he asking me out? Or does he just want to hang out?
"Er... sure!" I said.
"Cool! Should I pick you up, or do you want to drive yourself? I can give you the loca--"
"You can pick me up, it'll be quicker since you know the way." I said quickly.
"Okay, around 7:30?"
"Sure, 7:30." I agreed.
I turned around and walked to my car. So many things were running through my head. What did he want? Was he asking me out? I decided just to wait and see.
What felt like days, 7:30 came around, and he was already outside.
I entered his car, trying to be as polite as I can. He turned the ignition.
"So, where is this lake you were talking about?" I asked.
"Just a couple miles west" He replied.
We didn't talk much else the rest of the way. It felt really awkward!
We finally got to the lake. He opened my door for me.
"Thank you." I said smiling. He didn't say anything.
"The hill is over here." He said. He lead me to the hill.
When we got to the top. He was right! The view was amazing! The way the stars reflected and refracted on the water! The water wasn't moving, like nothing disturbed it.
"Impressed?" He asked.
I couldn't say anything, it was like I was in a trance. But, whilst in my "trance" he picked me up and ran towards the lake. Then, he jumped in. I began to struggle. I wanted to get out of the water! Every instinct, thought, motion, everything was saying, I can't take this! I need to get out of the water!
I looked into Shaun's eyes.
I then realized he was planning this all along! I tried hitting him, to make him let go, but being underwater, it was more like taping him with a finger.
He then held me closer, and before I could do anything, he kissed me on the forehead. My ears perked, eyes widened, and my tail perked, and then, all the fear of being underwater just... went away. When he stopped, he looked me in the eyes. But, before I could do anything, I began to struggle for air. I guess he knew this to, because he held me close and swam upwards. I felt the light dim around me as air escaped my lungs, and just before he surfaced, it all went dark.
I heard an echo in the distance, "Hey, Kristyll, wake up! Please, don't die on me now..."
I woke up shortly after and Shaun was giving me mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.
"MMhff!" I grunted.
He lifted his face from mine, "Oh thank merciful God, Your still alive!" He began to cry.
"Kristyll, I'm sorry for what I did, please don't be mad..."
I coughed up a mouth full of water. "W-why *cough* would I be mad? You did forcefully take me under *cough cough* water when I was sure I made it clear I was aqua-phobic! But, at least now I know how you feel about me..." I began to shiver.
He lifted me up like he did before and carried me to his car. He put me down and opened the trunk, he pulled out a towel and wrapped it around me. He then picked me up again and put me in the back seat so I could lie down. I fell asleep shortly after.
When I woke up, I was in my house, in my bed, wearing my sleeping clothes. I didn't remember everything at first, but when everything came back to me, I got out of bed and checked my clock. It was 11:30 A.M. on a Saturday. I opened my bedroom door, and entered the living room, and there sleeping on the couch was Shaun. I must have been loud when opening my door, because he woke up when I entered.
"Er... sorry." I said. "I didn't know you stayed the night."
"It's okay," He replied, "I just wanted to make sure you were alright. Look, about what happened last night, I really do care about you, it wou--"
"Yes, I care about you to." I said cutting him off.
He smiled at me, and we started to kiss. My tail perked once again, and reached over to hold onto his. We loved each other, there was no question to it.
The next day he asked me to marry him. I agreed, I wanted to be with him. I didn't want to lose him. I was overjoyed to know that he wanted the same thing.
Occasionally, we would revisit the lake, at the same time we did that night. Just to relive that one moment...
