#5 of Drako Tygon

Hey, this is a book that's borderline Scifi, borderline Teen Fiction and borderline Fantasy. It's about a college student, named Charley Steel, who's granted the power of a dragon, combined with the power of the tiger. He faces off against a super telepath named Dr Psyche. Charles finds he needs the help of the only family he's got left, along with the love of his life. But will he triumph, or will it all end in despair? Have fun!

I got breakfast, and started training with Blade Cat. Many of the people there were becoming too old to train, but luckily they already had much knowledge in fighting, and so they just changed their previous knowledge to fit their new bill. The rest of them were pretty young, some not much older than twelve years, but that just makes them easier to train. I, myself, am almost twenty years old.

Most of them were eager to learn, but they were also full of energy, so I had an idea. Work them out, get them tired, then teach them what you want them to learn. then they might be more attentive, or at least sit still.

Fortunately, my plan worked. Giving the prematures a brief workout before training heightened their learning ability. Amazingly, they emerged from workouts with enough energy to concentrate but little enough energy that they could sit still.

Each of the leaders were portioned out a certain number of each power, fifty seven heroes each, and eleven to fifteen for each power. I got sixty four instead of fifty seven, something about how things didn't divide up equally. I was surprised to find Jake in my squadron.

Most of mine, Firefairy's, and Vortex's could fly, be it by their power or by jet packs. Lots of mine had super strength, but Firefairy's had a lot of super speed. Both Blade Cat's and Scorpio's had a lot of strength and enhanced reaction time. Stone-Man's had a lot of invincibility and strength. Tornado's had a lot of speed and flight. Berserk-Beast's and Gamma-Bot's had a homogeneous mixture of hero types. Blade Cat's has a lot of stealth heroes in it. Scorpio's has a lot of animalistics mixed with something else, too. Gamma Bot's has lots of mechanical enhancements, including flight-enabling suits.

I call my squadron, "The Flying Spartans." Each squadron got a badge for our squadron's emblem. Mine was a Spartan riding a Pegasus. Firefairy's name was "Sky Devils," and they had a devil with bat wings. Vortex calls his "Chimaeras," and had the mythical beast as an emblem. Blade cat's was "Super Ninjas," and had a ninja on fire.

Scorpio's was "Berserkers," and had a werewolf for an emblem. Stone-Man's was "Bully Boys," having a boxer. Berserk-Beast's was "Super Elves," having the head of an elf for an emblem. Gamma-Bot called his, "Techno Beasts," and had a half wolf/half robot for an emblem. Tornado's was "Eagle Bombers," and had an eagle holding a nuke in it's talons for an emblem.

I looked at the horizon from the surface. The sun burned red at the edge of the earth. It looked like the clouds were catching fire from the heat. And indeed it was hot. The humidity soaked my hair almost immediately. I saw fires in the distance, and I smelled electricity. They were close.

A warm hand touched my wing's shoulder. It snuck up my neck, up to my cheek. I said, "Jamie?" She answered, "Yes?" I asked, "What do you make of those fires?" I pointed, and she walked out in front of me. She looked at the lights in the distance. "I don't know. It could be for welding, or it could be for cooking. Really, it could be anything." I nodded. I called to David. I said to him, "Can you check on that fire for me? As a favor?" He said, "I was thinking of doin' that anyway." He flashed a smile, and disappeared. I heard his footsteps running towards the hill. Stephen ran up to me and said, "Have you seen Vortex?" I smiled and said, "No."

Dave appeared behind me, and I jumped. I said, "It's amazing that you can also stop your own sound and smell from escaping you, not just light." He laughed, then said, "Our fears have been proven. The smoke is from a forge for robot parts. And there are two men over seeing the entire operation. Guess who they are." I didn't have to say anything. I just sighed and sat on the ground, my head on my knees.

I went back to my training, and, a few days later, I was beginning to train my squadron in aerial combat with, and without, a weapon. I was so worn out, and I noticed the fatigue of my warriors. I called a break-day. I took a long walk on the surface.

Then, I looked at the hill. I saw a shine like metal stretch all across the crest of the hill, and it was growing. I got up close, and found out it was actually thousands of robots moving over the crest. I flew back to base and reported this to Tornado. he was talking to two senators when I walked up. I guess he read my face, because he excused himself from the conversation. I said to him, "They're here." His eyes went wide. His hand went to his wrist, and he pressed a button on his cufflink. Suddenly, a siren blared in my ear. I realized at once that the senators didn't hear this, so it must be broadcasted by the communicator. Then, Tornado guided all of the senators to a safe-room.

I ran to the barracks and met up with the rest of our leaders. Blade Cat asked the group in general, "What's going on?" I answered, "They're here. Dr. Psyche and his army are here."

Our army was starting to gather on the surface. Many of them had their weapon/pens out. I took out my pen and said to my squadron, "Time to get this party started." I activated it.

Soon, the entire robot force was in view. I saw two figures on he crest of the hill. I whispered to myself, "This is your time, Charles, use it as efficiently as possible."

I heard a voice come from the robot army like an intercom, saying, "I'm only going to give you this one chance, Take your place amongst the stars, and join me in this human genocide." I looked to Tornado, and he said, "I think I speak for all of us when I say, 'Shove your expanded cranium into your rectum!'" The entire army cheered at this prospect.

"Then," the voice said, "you die." The robot army charged forward. I called to my squadron, saying, "Let's go!" We all lifted up into the air and started shooting at the robots. I yelled over the communicator, "Clean Sweep!" We spread out and started sweeping across the battle field, using our weapons to take out the enemy. I landed and started killing robots left and right. I mean, they were dropping like flies. Soon, the robots were destroyed, and so our army cheered. Someone must have seen the two figures on the top of the hill, because everyone started charging up the slope. I yelled over the communicators, "No! Wait, stop! No!"

But it was too late. I heard the spurt of machinegun fire as they released their deadly lead payload. I rushed over the hill. Just as it was in my vision, half of our force lay on the ground, the life seeping out of their bodies, along with their blood. I heard a moaning come from under a pile of bodies. I threw the dead heroes away, and found Jake underneath.

I grabbed him up into my arms, and screamed into his white, drained face, "Jake! No!" He whispered, "It's all right, it's my, my..." His eyes fluttered closed. My hands lit on fire, slowly spreading up my arms, and burned Jake's body. There was nothing left afterwards. The fire spread to my chest, then to the rest of my body. Molten salt dripped down my face, and my jaw began to lengthen, half as long as a tiger's

White fur grew out on the sides of my face. My nose turned up some, and turned black. The fur on my body grew longer. My canines grew sharper and longer, and the rest of my teeth grew sharp. My claws grew longer and sharper. My muscles bulged at my suit, until the suit ripped from my body. My vertebrae grew until they split the skin on my neck, back and tail. I expected to scream, but instead, a blood curdling roar ripped from my throat.

I bounded through the battle, killing with only one thought in mind. Dark Spirit. He was the cause of this. I had to kill him, before he could get away. my claws and tail rent flesh from it's body, as I pushed through the battle. I grew my wings, and leapt onto an enemy soldier, pushed off, bounded off another, then glided to where I could see David.

I saw him, and he saw me. I swooped down, and he pulled a pen out of his cloak. I tried to veer up, but he had already activated it, and stabbed me in the side. Or at least that's what I had thought, at first. The blade had glanced harmlessly off my fur.

David's face became infuriated. He struck at me again, but I had my ax out and blocked it. I hooked my ax on his sword's hand guard, and pulled the sword from David's grip. He turned to mist and pulled away a few yards, but I threw a firewall around us, and it blocked his escape.

I heated up my ax, and I slashed at his shadowy figure. A large, red scar ripped, like the wake behind a large boat, through David's misty body. I kept cutting, only stopping to replenish the firewall. Soon, his mist had shrunk to the size of an old computer monitor. I pushed the mist together using fire. I compacted it to the size of a baseball.

David's voice echoed from the ball, "Please, don't do this..."

"Too late," I said to him. I made fire in the center of the ball, and destroyed the ball in an explosion of fire and darkness that extinguished the firewall.

I was blown back by the blast. I looked down at my chest, and saw my ribs. The muscle immediately began to cover the bone, shortly followed by skin and fur. I sat up. I saw U.N. heroes and solders, charging from the coast, conquering the day with the remnant of our army. A soft hand touched my shoulder. I looked up, and saw Jamie.

"Oh, Jamie," I cried, and curled in on myself. Jamie knelt down beside me, and said, "I know this is hard for you, but you must keep going. Lead us to victory, just this once."

I looked at her, wiped my eyes, and stood up. I looked out across the battlefield. Lots of our men and women had died, but the same could be said for the enemy. Stephan ran to us, and said, "Drako, Jamie, follow me. You're gonna want to see this." He took off. We followed him to a group of soldiers guarding a single man wearing a white lab coat and he had a large forehead.

"So this is Dr. Psyche, huh?" I asked Jamie. She nodded. Dr Psyche looked at me, and said, "So, I meet you, my adversary." I felt something wash over me. A wave of, evil.

I looked said to Jamie, "We need to kill him. Now!" Before she could say a thing, Psyche said, "Oh, she'd love to, but your government wants me alive. To study my mind, my brain." I activated my ax, said, "Over my dead body," and swung down. But something stopped my ax, and pushed us all back. Psyche pointed his palms down, and he flew into the air and away from us. I shot fire at him, but it had no effect. I shouted "No!"

Later, under the surface, I sat in the gym. I said to Jamie, "I should've killed him." She said, "No one could've, on their own."

"I could have made those explosions inside his body that keep his mind at bay. I should've..."

"Hey! Do I have to kick you in the head again? 'Cause I will."

I mused, "I sort of like how that ended, so why not?"

She knelt down and kissed me. When it ended, "I said, "You know this isn't over, right?" She answered, "It never is. As long s the law doesn't act, we will."

"I'll remember that," I said.

I kissed her again, and got up. I walked to the mess hall. It was empty, so I took a seat. I leaned on my elbows, and cried.
