Something more depressing, in my eyes.

Wanted to write a Birthday Story for a friend of mine, but it turned out to be an rather interesting testwrite as well.

After all i don't really know, what i should think of it.

I think there are a lot of mistakes in it as well, so just try to ignore x)

Well, if you can tell me, what you think of it, it'll help me to get a focus as well..

Anyway, have fun ~ ^^

It was a great, warm day and the sun just raise high enough to flood the valley with a soft, warm light and color everything in a deep golden tone. All the animals slowly got up and started their daily live, enjoying the presents of the sun. Peace was spread all over the land but it wasn't always like that. Long ago, a human empire conquered this area and killed nearly everything that looked dangerous. "Even all my family members.."

Serouh, the golden Dragon of this land, silently gliding through the morning sky, slowly looking from one side to the other. He was the last dragon that survived the day in the valley, as the humans came and tried to exterminate them. He still had this picture in his mind, as his mother got killed, as she hid him away, just in time.

Even if Serouh had feelings of guilt, not to help anyone, he knew that it wouldn't do it any better. He was still a hatchling these days and would be probably killed as well. After all, he was very sad, as well as he was in mating season since a long time now, and he wasn't able to find a mate able dragoness so far but won't give up in searching for one.

He continued gliding through the air, feeling the soft wind under his wing membrane and enjoying this wonderful morning. Even if his mind was full with desperate thoughts, he didn't let them come through to spoil the good feeling of a grateful day.

He took a sharp left curve and headed for the ground, as he perceived some prey, not far away, enjoying the sun as much as he did. But that's the circle of life, even if it seems cruel. If he won't eat any other animals, he will die. Dragons are not made for, to eat just fruits and plants.

The deer he was heading for, just got to some water pit, to get a refreshing drink, as Serouh shot down and killed the doe within seconds, as he broke its neck between his fangs and flew off again, back to his lair. As he reached his cave, he immediately sat down and began to eat the fresh prey.

He thought of some ancient story, his mother used to tell him, when he was a child:

Once there were 2 mighty dragons, brothers, which were more different to each another than anything else. The older one was named to be a cruel fighter, who'll kill any other kin that treats him no respect. Even dragons, it was told, he had fun in killing them, just because he didn't like some of their faces.

The younger one was told to be a very kind and generous dragon. He had beautiful shining, golden like scales but nobody was jealous of him, as he didn't see himself as someone better. He made peace with nearly all the other kins on this planet, but not the humans.

As they claimed war and marched into the great land of the dragons, called the Dragon's valley, this younger son still tried to get a peaceful solution. His brother instead, made his way up to the battle at once and fought a heroic fight. But even his power failed after some time and he got killed at last.

Days of cruel slaughter and lots of pain went over and the younger one was finally one of the last living dragons on that place. He blocked the way for the humans, to get to the main hall, where the elder dragon lived. He made a deal with them. He'll give his live, but for that they have to spare all the other dragon's lives. The humans agreed and finally killed this legendary dragon as well and retreated from this land.

It was foreseeable, but the humans broke their promise and started to march into every little piece of land to get rid of all the dragons once for all. But the elder dragon took the chance and braced to the humans. He said, that it'll be useless, to try to exterminate them. They won't die. And if they should really die on this world, there will be enough other worlds out there, humans have no idea of how many dragons will live on them.

He said, that one day, both of these legendary brothers will be reborn and carry on the genes of the dragons and in not much time, on this planet will live dragons again. And maybe in peace, together with the human race as well.

After that, the extermination began and they killed every dragon..

Well, Almost.

Serouh sighed and threw the last bone out of his cave, laying his head on his paws he was trying to get some sleep. It's not a fair world. Not at all. But it's the way of life and you can either complain about it or try to make the best things out of it. And this thought made him stand through all of his live. To be probably the last one of his kind, is truly a sad fact. But, who knows. Maybe someday there will be a beautiful dragoness, waiting just for him, to breed some hatchlings and live a life full of happiness... Or maybe there won't ever.. who cares anyway. He sighed again and finally fell asleep, still feeling the warmth of the sun on his scaly body.

A mighty growl went through the air and Serouh got teared out of his colorful dreams. He looked into the sky and saw only grey. The weather changed rapidly and heavy raindrops fell down, leaving a wet but beautiful atmosphere behind. The weak sun, which was buried behind thick clouds, gave all the things the rain touched, a soft golden shimmer.

Serouh just wanted to get to sleep once more, relaxing at the sound of rain, as he snatched up an unusual scent. And it was coming from his cave.! He turned around his head rapidly and yet, there was some other life form, lying in his cave, searching for shelter probably.

It was a black, rolled up.. thingy, that just lay at the very end of the cave. The golden dragon got curious and slowly verged on the being, trying to find out, what it is. He could count. A leathery- scaly skin, horns, wings... a dragon!? He got so excited, that he unwittingly touched the dragon with his feet, and let the other one awaken.

It slowly got up and looked into Serouh's eyes. It had very clear and determined eyes, but there was some sort of sorrow within and he could understand that feeling, as he felt a huge pressure in his chest. He didn't took the time for formalities and just reached out and hugged the black dragon to share some of the love, he had left in his heart. The black dragon rejoined this offer, pressed his body on Serouh's and hugged him tightly, sharing his feelings as well.

After a few minutes they let off each other and the orange dragon could clearly see relief and happiness in the other's eyes, and he just grinned and walked away again, back to his sleeping place, listening to the rain a bit more. At morning, he just thought, he would probably be the last one of his kind, and now, there is another dragon, sleeping in his cave?! He couldn't belief that in this moment.

Suddenly he felt the warmth of another body, as he realized, that the other dragon cuddled to him. Serouh first was a bit overwhelmed and wasn't used to the presents of another being next to him, as it was usual for him to be alone, but after a short period of thinking he made a conclusion and stretched his wings around the black dragon, to give it the feeling of warmth and protection.

After a few minutes of cuddling, they both fell asleep and Serouh awoke in the morning hours. The rain had stopped, but the weather hadn't changed much. The sky was grey after all and a fresh breeze blew over the country.

The other dragon was still there, rolled up lying next to him, cuddling into his chest. Serouh cautiously got up, not to wake up the other one and made his way into the valley, searching for some lunch.

He brought back a lot of prey, of course, there were two dragons now, in need for some food and he felt somehow responsible for the health and care of the other one. As he reached the cave entrance, the guest was already awake, scratching some things into soft stone. As Serouh closed up to the stones, he could read the old dragon letters, his mother explained to him.

It's something like a universal language for all of the dragons. They don't have to learn the language actually, as it is somehow infused within their minds from the beginning. As long as you know, what they are, you can read them.

"Aquila" said the first word. Probably the name of the black dragon, he thought. He continued reading and puzzled together all of these words till he had a meaningful picture of what was written there.

"Aquila thanks you. Message for you, golden dragon.."

Nothing more. Serouh got curious and looked at the other dragon with an impatient look. Aquila just smiled and made its way to the caught prey, still looking at the golden dragon with a smile, as everything was just fine. Serouh shrugged and also made his way to the still warm food. Sooner or later, he'll get the information. He is just too nosy, to know it.

After lunch, they cuddled together again and Serouh now wondered, if Aquila is a male or female name, for as the genitalia of dragons, are intern, he couldn't really tell at the look either. But in that short time, Aquila grew to his heart like a faithful companion and Serouh wanted to take things a bit further. If it was a dragoness, then he doesn't want to miss the opportunity to hatch some children, if she would be willing as well.

He could feel his own heartbeat fastened as he started to picture it in his mind and couldn't really control it any longer. He reached for and gave the smaller, black dragon a soft lick on its cheeks, waiting for response.

Aquila opened its eyes, smiled and licked back, across his entire muzzle.

He took it as an agreement for further explorations and slowly moved his leg around and pressed it firmly to the crotch of the other dragon. It looked rather confused first, but replied to that message with its body movements, as it hugged the yellowish dragon tighter and rubbed its lower waist, slowly against his leg.

Serouh was deeply shocked for a moment, as he felt something stiff down there and moved down one of his paws, to see if he was right in his assumption. Of course he was.

There was a hard pointy end, coming out of a small slit, at the crotch of Aquila.

So it was a male! Serouh released himself immediately from the tight grip and was totally overwhelmed for a few seconds. Is it bad to have feelings for other males.? What happens now? This is not like the natural order should be. Is this the sign that he has to give up, looking for a cute dragoness?

He got teared out of his problems, as he felt soft warmth at his body. Aquila nuzzled his scaly, black skin at the golden one and just had a smile on his face. He didn't seem to be upset, that another male just touched him. It appeared to him, like there wasn't even something unusual.

After a few moments, Serouh got back to his normal thoughts again and lay down besides Aquila again, hugging him once more, blushing and shaking a bit. After some soft sighs from both of them, they fell asleep once again.

He awoke in the early evening and knew immediately, that something was missing. Aquila was gone and he didn't come back the whole evening.

As the sunrays of a new morning touched Serouh's face and he slowly awoke out of his slumber, he froze for a second. There was something scratched in the stone, right in front of him and he carefully tried to understand that meaning.

"Love doesn't depend on the gender you prefer. Love is universal and is within every life form on every planet. Face it without any assessment and you'll find true love in the things you expected the least.."

This phrase filled up Serouh's eyes with tears and he could now understand the calmness of Aquila as their bodies touched. The person doesn't matter, as long as the feelings are right.

There was something else, scratched into the stone, next to the inscription. Something like a map. He tried to decipher the scribbling's and the place he was lead to was something he knew very well.

Dragon's Valley

Serouh cried out at once. What a relief to know, that he was not one of the last one of his kind. What a relief to know, that the dawn of a new dragon era has already begun.

And maybe this time, in peace.
