Two Halves of the Same Whole, Chapter 3
#3 of Two Halves of the Same Whole
Part 3 of Two Halves of the Same Whole
The next morning I was rudely awoken by something shaking me. I rolled over to see who it was. As I did, I remembered where I was, but it was too late. I had fallen off the couch and I had landed on my ass. It hurt just enough to make me tear up a little. My wounds had not decided to heal quickly.
"What was that for?" I asked as I stood up. "Don't you know it's not proper to get up before noon?"
"Trust me I could sleep all day too, but I'd rather not waste the entire day."
Maggie bent down, and held her arm out, "need a hand?"
"I'm good, thanks." I said as I tried standing up, only to fall back down because my leg was in pain. "On second thought, I'll take your offer."
I grabbed her hand and she helped me up, I stumbled and fell forwards slightly, landing in her arms. Thankfully, my chest spike didn't impale her. I awkwardly tried to find words to explain myself, but before I had the chance, Maggie ran into the kitchen and brought out a glass of water.
"I'd imagine you're thirsty sir?" she chuckled.
I gently held the glass between my paws so I could drink out of it, but as I lifted the glass to my mouth the glass tipped, spilling water all down my front.
"Oh dear... I'm terribly sorry Maggie. I should have..." Maggie cut me off.
"No no don't worry, just put the glass down and I'll be right back." She hurried out of the room then came back moments later with a cloth. She then dried me off, carefully avoiding any cuts. "See wasn't all that bad!"
"No, I guess it wasn't." I replied trying to process what just happened.
I sat down on the couch to relax for a minute. She sat down next to me, wrapping her arm around my shoulder.
"So what were you planning on doing today?" she asked
I looked at her and had to suppress the sudden urge I got to lean over and kiss her. It wasn't natural I told myself. It wasn't right.
"I was planning on finding that man from yesterday." I replied
"And what exactly were you planning to do?" she said again.
I realized that she would not by any means allow me to leave the house to search for the man. I replied, "I'm going to sit here on the couch and relax..."
She smiled at me and her tone relaxed. "That's a better answer. And trust me, I want to find the guy too, but not in this condition." She laughed a bit, "well I do need to pick up some groceries, you can stay if you wanna."
"No, I'll come with you. You may think I haven't noticed, but you aren't walking straight yet." I said, standing up.
"Well, I guess we're limping together then." Maggie replied
I followed her to the door, where she turned to make sure I was behind her. Next we set out towards the store. On our way, I couldn't help but feel that we were being watched. I stopped for a moment. My aura was telling me that Maggie was in danger. I rushed up to her and pulled her into an alleyway, holding her mouth so she would be quiet.
A man walked by the alley, noticing us. He had a large bulbasaur behind him. I froze, letting my paw slip off of Maggie's mouth.
"Oh Maggie, so nice to meet you here. Oh and the mutt I nearly killed is here too? Wow, even I didn't expect you to resort that low." The man smirked.
"Get the hell away from us!" Maggie shouted.
I felt the bulbasaur's eyes look me over. He knew that I was still wild, and could be captured easily. I bet he would have loved to see me as his "travel buddy" so he could beat me up whenever he please. But before I would ever let that happen, I would put up a fight. I stepped behind Maggie and whispered in her ear.
"Keep him distracted for a minute. Make him angry if you have to."
She nodded and said, "Does it make you angry knowing that a Lucario can take better care of a human than you can? Oh I bet your new girlfriend really appreciates a guy who calls a Pokemon a mutt. What do you call her huh?"
I started focusing my aura towards the man in front of us. I focused every ounce of energy into making an image of us running past him. I didn't think it was possible, but in a minute, he suddenly turned and ran after something.
"Hey! Wait!" He yelled.
I stood for a while just amazed that I had done it.
"I have no idea what you just did, but I'm impressed." Maggie said right before tearing up, grabbing me in the process. "Thank you."
I held her gently as she recovered. "You're welcome." I said.
After the ordeal was over, I led her out of the alley and towards our original destination. We arrived quickly at the store and I watched as Maggie bought some cylinders of paper, and a stick with bristles on the end. We then began the short trip back to her house, this time without problems.
"Hey Maggie?" I asked as we entered the house, "Why did the man say that he didn't expect you to resort that low?"
"He probably thought we were a couple or something along those lines. I wouldn't worry about it too much; he just tries to make everyone else look bad." Maggie replied.
"He was closer than he thought..." I murmured under my breath.
"Oh come on you're a nice guy, no need to get down on yourself." She said, hearing what I thought had been silent.
I blushed slightly and said, "I'm going to sleep now."
