The Wedding
Today is the day. I can't believe it's already here. Today is the day I get married to the most awesome fur ever. I haven't known him very long, you could say it's been a whirlwind romance, but when you meet 'The One' you just kind of know. It was his eyes that first drew me in, the shocking green that just held your gaze. It was once I learned what he was like when I decided that he was the one. His kindness towards me, his accepting nature, how I just knew I could trust him with absolutely anything, just everything about him is just so perfect. Even his name was perfect, Zach. It also wasn't all that long ago we had decided to get married.
It happened only hours before. We were out at a small cafe when it happened. I had gone out and bought the ring earlier in the day, just a simple little band with a bit of inlay for some sparkle. We had lunch and just chatted at the cafe and when we went to stand up to leave I went down on one knew instead and popped the question. Well, wouldn't you know that Zach did the same thing. He even bought the same ring. When I saw that I just couldn't control myself and I tackle/hugged him to the ground while I cried. I was just too happy to control myself. We both said yes at the same time and that was that.
Having magic powers makes wedding planning infinitely easier. We decided a wedding by the lake at sunset would be ideal, plus I had plans for my magic to come in handy. I booked out the park the same day as the proposal and even got the mayor to come and make it an official wedding. Easy enough when she owes you a favour. I set up several benches parallel to the lake and set up a podium for the mayor to stand witness. Now for the fun part. I concentrate and make several arcane gestures with my hands as I imagine how I want the area to look.
"Nothing too fancy, but fancy enough." The benches turn a creamy white colour and scarlet cushions appear out of nowhere for the guests to sit on.
"Grass is nice, but not really appropriate." The whole space transforms to be placed atop a marble footing.
"That'll be a little chilly under-paw though, let's fix that." A scarlet runner lays itself out down the centre isle and smaller ones run themselves between the benches.
"This is too white, needs more colour." A pagoda appears to canopy the whole affair with golden streamers strung from rafter to rafter. The sides of the pagoda being kept clear for the view of the sunset reflecting on the lake.
"Now for a touch of warmth along the podium" Several candles magically appear and set themselves along the top of the podium and light themselves casting a warm glow.
"Since the dancing will be here too it'll need some light. Let's add a bit of asian flair." Traditional paper lanterns strung themselves from the rafters at various heights, although they all made sure that no one could bump into them.
I stand in the middle of my creation and marvel at how magnificent it is, however, there's a sense that something is still missing.
"I know, I need a little bit of Zach. Something to symbolize him. I know the perfect thing." As I finish my sentence a slight shift occurs in the fabrics and the details of the benches. A flourish of acid green runs along the borders of all of the fabrics and traces intricate wave and ocean details into the wood of the benches. "There, the same green as the eyes that drew me to him in the first place with the water that he loves so much."
I cordon of the area with a special spell that only allows certain people to see it and enter the area. Everyone who can't simply walks through unseen, unheard, unnoticed, and unfelt by any individuals inside the area of the spell.
"Perfect, I've already made the invitations and had Zach go deliver them. Now the only thing to do is get dressed and wait for guests to start arriving." I saunter off home to prepare.
- - - A little later - - -
"Welcome! I'm so glad you could make it!" I greet the few guests that we invited, mostly close friends and family members, in my white tux. I went with a plain cream coloured tuxedo and a matching dress shirt with a scarlet tie embroidered with gold wave details.
The scene is perfect. Our family and friends are mixing and mingling as it should. I hate when one person's family sits on one side and the other family sits on the other. Even our friends are getting along, not all that surprising really. I look at my watch and see it's almost time for the main event. Perfect timing too, I see the white face and light blue ears of my favourite otter/collie on the face of the planet.
"I should go inside, It's bad luck to see the groom before the wedding." I giggle at the superstition, but being a magic user you learn to be wary of superstitions. I head into the pagoda and walk up to stand by the podium.
"All rise as the groom makes his entrance." I knew he'd be handsome, but I wasn't expecting him to be as handsome as he looks now. He was already gorgeous before the suit, now that he's in a black tux with a red tie to match mine, I couldn't help but stare and think just how lucky a fox I am to have found such an amazing mate. I felt tears start to well up in the corners of my eyes as I started to realize that in just a little while this wonderful fur is going to be mine and I'm going to be his for the rest of our lives. I blink and I see that in my day-dreaming that's soon to become reality he's made it across the pagoda and is now standing directly in front of me. It takes all of my self control not to start crying tears of joy and hugging him tightly. We still have a little ways to go before I can do that.
"You may all be seated." I barely notice the sound of the furs in the pagoda sitting back down. "Now then, I can see you are both very eager to be married, but I can also see that neither of you want this moment to end. I will make sure to take my time." I can feel myself smiling like an idiot, but so is Zach and I can see how much he loves me in his eyes. The same eyes that caught my attention only a few months ago. I let some magic flow into the air around us causing an illusion of cherry blossoms gently falling from the rafters of the pagoda. "Hikari?"
"Yes?"
"I know you're causing this, it's a lovely touch, just make sure they won't pile too high."
"They won't, but I can't stop it either, just roll with it."
"Well, then while I'm speaking with you, I believe you had some wedding vows you wanted to say?"
"Yes, just a second." I snap my fingers and words start to trace themselves in the space between us glowing words that cast a soft warm glow. "These are my vows, Zach. I've kept them in my heart for you all this time, and now, you get to see them and read them." I see him stare at them a while with tears of happiness welling up in the corners of his eyes. "I'd be honoured if you could say them out loud for me."
"Alright love, I will."
"Not exactly the proper vow procedure, but then again this venue wouldn't be possible without someone being a little different. Go ahead Zach."
"Thank you." I see him wipe away a tear that managed to escape. "I love you so much that I can't think of words strong enough to express it." He chokes a little at this point trying to hold back the tears of happiness. "I-I just want to be with you so badly and hold you and kiss you and cuddle with you." I notice the audience is starting to tear up, a lot of my friends already breaking down into tears, they understand just how much this means to me. "I-I want to be yours forever a-and I want you to be mine forever." This is when I saw the mayor even have to wipe her tears from her eyes. "I just want you, the good and the bad parts, for better and for worse." The tears about to stream down his face, the mayor asks him if he'd have anything to say and his response melts my heart. "No, I can't think of anything to add. All I can say is that I want you, Hikari, for better and for worse, forever and ever."
"Well," The mayor gave a sniffle here, "I've never seen a more loving couple. I now pronounce you husband and husband. You may kiss the groom."
"Finally!" I wrap my arms around his neck and pull him down into a kiss. I feel his arms wrap around my waist and pull me close before I break the kiss. "I love you Zach." I nuzzle my face into his chest.
"And I love you." I feel him kiss my head. "Now, I'm sure everyone could use a good dance."
"I'll need my arms to make some space luv." He keeps a hold of my waist, but lets me have enough space to use my arms. "Mayor, If you would be so kind."
"All rise, it's time to get this party started!"
With the sun setting and casting the pagoda in a warm and golden light, the streamers looking like liquid gold from the reflection off the lake, I watch as everyone stands and congratulates us.
"No one gets to sit down tonight, we're partying until dawn!" I wave my arms and the benches vanish only to reappear at the edges of the pagoda, food and drinks appearing near Zach and me, and music playing from nowhere.
"Hey, love?" I hear Zach say in my ear. "Thanks."
"For what, hun?" I place a paw against his cheek.
"For making this the most magical and special wedding ever. Don't think I didn't notice the wave details and the acid green in everything."
"I knew you'd notice luv. That's why I put them there. You know what the best part is?"
"What?" I feel him nuzzle into my neck.
"No one else can see this place except those of us here. We can come back any day you want." I turn my head to face him. "This is our own special place." I kiss him one more time before we go to join the party. We danced the night away, not once letting go of each other's hand.
The End
