The Final Strike
#25 of Rising Downfall
We're just about done with this first book. We need to stop the Masked Eagles and save the world!
Grazar came to our aid due to the sound of the Dragon Flute I had found. As soon as he found me, he was actually overjoyed to see me and couldn't stop nuzzling me despite the fact that Sly and the others were watching him. I can tell he didn't want a repeat of what happened when I was a child. A lot of stuff seems to always happen to me and that was enough to make him want to cry. I do not blame him.
He then led us back to Hawktown the next morning and everybody was happy to see us. I got a ton of hugs from my brothers and sister, a pat on the back from Tyrone and Bradley, and hugs from Elgris and Tirela. Shang literally tackled me and attacked my face with licks. It took a while to try to get him to calm down. He was a big wolf...a strong one at that so he was able to tackle me. I saw that Sly and Shadowclaw were staring intently at each other. Then, they smirked at each other and shook each other's hand. They really were brothers.
I was getting a lot of looks from the new outfit I was wearing. I didn't really say anything about who I really am until I felt that the time was right. I have no way of telling who would have it out for me if they found out. I just made my way to the Hawk Academy and there I had returned the lost merchandise that was stolen from the people here. Everybody was filled with hope to have their items back again.
His Majesty welcomed us back but he led us to his private chambers to discuss something that was much direr.
"I apologize for being the bearer of bad news," he began, "but we have received numerous reports from other neighboring villages. It appears as though that The Masked Eagles are getting even more desperate than ever. They have begun to craft more missiles at their home base and it's only a matter of time before they launch them. I fear that once they do, they will not target not only us, but other places of the world. The results will be catastrophic. Everybody will have to be ruled by the Masked Eagles. We cannot let this happen!"
"I think it's about time to hit them where it really hurts," Sly said out loud. "And that is at their home turf: Forbidden City."
"You really think that is a good idea, Sly?" Shadowclaw said to him.
"Well, those missiles have to be stopped, brother. Of course I know we can't just walk in there all willy-nilly. We'd be killed on sight. We have to be stealthy about this."
"I agree with Sly," said Shadow with his hand on his chin. "And I believe with all of us working together on this, we will be successful with stopping this launch on the world."
"The problem is getting in there," Python said with his ears lowered. "We were there. They have guards and all kinds of traps everywhere. It was a pain in the ass just getting out and losing them. We have to be smart about this. There can be no room for mistakes."
"Wow, this all sounds really confusing," Varin said scratching his head.
"That's because you hardly ever pay attention, bro," Galena giggled at him.
"This city seems impregnable," Gull said with doubt in his voice.
While they were all conversing, I was staring out the window with my arms folded. I was still thinking about all that my father said on that recording, those scrolls that they left behind, and all this new gear I have obtained. You could say I was zoned out a little. It was still difficult to process this. It was awesome in a way. I turned my attention to the map that was on the table. I blinked my eyes again and I was seeing something on the map. It looked like a map within' a map. It was pinpointing weak points in the city. It was all so clear to me.
"Master, why are your eyes glowing?" I heard Shang say to me.
I blinked once again and looked at him.
"What?" I said to him.
"Your eyes were glowing just now while you were staring at the map. I have never seen that happen before."
"That must be the Dark Vision technique," said Shadowclaw. "Only a few people of your family possess this ability, Guil. Even your father didn't have this ability. It allowed people to see the unseen."
That must explain how I could see that button back in the ruins.
"I see," I said. "I could...see some things on this map... It could help us get into the Forbidden City so we can stop those missiles." At this point I was pointing out stuff on the map that the others could not see. "First thing we need to do is to get their attention and have them focus on a small portion of us. While the first team leads them away, the rest of us will move in and take out any that will try to stop us. We can do this everybody!"
They all nodded in approval. It was time to take the battle to them this time. These missiles had to be stopped.
Sunset had approached and we had left immediately. The King wished us luck and prayed that we stop those missiles. The Forbidden City was 10 minutes away so we had to continue to go according to plan. Once we reached the front gate we hid behind some bushes. There were guards swarming all over the place. Now was the time for Phase 1 to commence. Sly, Shadow, Python, Shadowclaw, and Grazar ran out to the gate. Grazar proceed to fire out fireballs at the gate while the rest of them swarmed out and started to take them down one by one. Seeing that they were quickly outnumbered, Sly and the others took that time to turn and retreat while having the Eagles follow them away from the City. It was just as planned. The rest of us ran up to the gate and opened it and dashed behind some buildings. The building that we were looking for is on the other side of the City. We moved from building to building avoiding any guards that were strolling by until we made our way into an empty dark room. We were about to take out our flashlights until the lights came on by themselves...or that's what we thought. We saw somebody come from behind one of the much larger missiles. It was Henry...or rather, Avoi from what he wanted to be called.
"I-Is that Henry?" Elgris asked with a confused look on her face.
"He really is a Masked Eagle," Tyrone said with the same look on his face.
"That little traitor is so going down!" Bradley yelled out as Avoi approached us slowly. As soon as he stopped, we all drew our weapons at him.
"That's far enough, 'Avoi'," I announced at him. "Stop this lunacy and just surrender."
He didn't say anything but moved to his left. He reached out and pulled a lever that we didn't know was there. All of a sudden, our weapons were shaking and then they flew up into the ceiling. There was a giant magnetic plate attached to the ceiling that was holding our weapons in place.
"Who needs weapons when you have these?" He smirked as he raised his fists up. "Guns are so overrated nowadays. Fists are where it's at. They give you the rush you've been looking for. When you shoot someone, you feel nothing. When you punch someone, you feel your strength. You'll be able to feel how strong you really are. I always wanted to fight my former team. Let's see if you guys are really the top of your class."
We all looked at each other and then back at him.
"You have that hood on too tight, dude," Zalek barked out. "There are 7 of us and there's only one of you. Plus you'd be dealing with two awesome wolves at best. We'll cream you!"
"Oh stuff it, will you, mutt?! Don't think for a second that I haven't thought ahead. I have a little friend that'll love to play around with you and Shang." He brought his fingers up to his mouth and he whistled loudly. A few seconds later, a rather large black and purple creature emerged from one of the boxes and landed right next to Avoi. It looked like a wolf from the looks of it.
"Wh-What the hell is that?" Shang barked out in surprise.
"Like him? He's a killer, just like I am. Poor pup was so misunderstood but I saw his true potential...and decided to make him a pet of my very own. Now I think the odds are even here, don't you?"
"Are you out of your mind?!" Zalek snarled out. "That thing is a monster!"
We heard the wolf-like creature snarl at us.
"Aww, now you went and hurt his feelings...and he doesn't like his feelings hurt. He tends to...act out. Sic 'em, boy!"
The beast snarled again and lunged out at Shang and Zalek. They both jumped out of the way and were chased to the other side of the building while Avoi dashed toward us swiftly and delivered a sock to the face to Bradley, who flipped and landed on his back on the floor. He then did a leg sweep that made Tyrone trip and land on his side. He dashed toward Elgris, grabbed her arm, and flung her across the room as she collided with both Bradley and Tyrone. I take it this is how he really fights without a sword. He turned to Tirela and I and charges at us. We were ready. He winds up a punch but I catch it in mid-punch and elbow him right in the stomach. Then, I did a leg sweep of my own and he falls on the ground. He flips back up and tries a roundhouse kick, which I ducked under but he used his other leg to kick me right in the gut. I lost my balance and fell onto the ground. He was about to kick me square in my face, but Tirela reached out and grabbed his leg and pushed him back. He grumbles as he goes to elbow her, but she catches it and slaps him in the face. I wanted to laugh from that. This made him angry as he grabbed her by the neck and flipped her over and slammed her on the ground. I only had seen that choke slam in wrestling shows. Is this how strong Avoi really was?
Meanwhile, Shang and Zalek were in a fight of their own. That beast was really large and much faster than them. All they could do in the meantime was to dodge his lunges and his fury swipes. They tried to deliver some of their own but he continued to dodge with flips of his own. With a creature that large you'd think he'd be an easy target. They were having a hard time trying to hit him, let alone get anywhere near him to dish out any real damage. Even Zalek's thunder attacks weren't doing anything. All he did was kept dodging. They continued to try to tackle each other but they continued to miss. They were just too fast for each other.
Bradley had managed to get up with a red face as he charged at Avoi. Avoi just smirked and caught his incoming punch and punched him in the stomach. He grunted and held his stomach as Avoi stood there. Bradley tried to punch him again, but Avoi took his arm and pushed it back against him, making Bradley slap himself. That was humiliating. He was just toying with him just to piss him off. It was working. Bradley was losing his patience as he was about to punch, but he stopped and managed to get a roundhouse kick to his face. Kind of clever how he faked that punch the third time, but now I think that kind of made Avoi mad. He kicked him in the leg to make him fall on his knees and then delivered a very hard kick to the face. It was enough to break his nose as his whole face was covered in his blood. He then laid there holding his face as Avoi was standing over him. He was about to step on his head but Tyrone got up and grabbed him from behind to stop him. He struggled a little bit until Avoi started to elbow him in the stomach to get him off. He grabbed his arms and flipped him over again and Tyrone landed on his back once again. Just then, Elgris managed to get up and sent a punch to his face. She went to give him another one but he catches it and delivers a hard punch to her face that made her fall on the ground.
Shang and Zalek were getting some hits in but not before taking some themselves. I could make out some pretty bad scratches on their body and face as there was some blood on their fur. I could also see some scratches on the beast's body as well. They were now circling him as Zalek dashes out at him while Shang lunges at him. The beast quickly grabs Shang by the tail in his mouth and flung Shang toward Zalek as they both went hurdling to the wall. They quickly got up, but to no avail. Both of the wolves were quickly slapped in the face and they went flying in the opposite directions. Shang struggled to get up but the beast was right on top of him as it grabbed Shang harshly by the scruff of his neck, drawing a bit of blood, and tossed him across the room again. Zalek saw that the beast was heading to Shang again, so he got up and ran toward it and head-butted it to make it fall over on the ground.
I started to get up off the floor. Before I was all the way up, Avoi was suddenly in front of me. He tried to kick me, but I caught his leg and flipped him over until he landed on his stomach. He rolled back up on his feet and did a roundhouse kick, which I ducked under again. He tried to use his other foot to kick me but I dodged this time and blocked his barrage of fists. I was impressed that he was this fast but he continued to leave himself wide open. I countered every chance I had with many punches to the face and stomach. He was about to punch but I did a roundhouse kick to his face which made him twirl in the air and land on his side.
He was slowly getting up to his feet and started to cough up some blood.
"It seems I underestimated you, Guil," he said weakly and got back up. "You're better than I thought...but I can still feel you holding back. If you really want to defeat me, you should really go all out. As will I from now on. The gloves are going to be coming off here. This fight is only getting started."
I didn't have any idea what he meant until I felt the ground shake. What was going on? Was it an earthquake? There was a window nearby and I looked out of it. We were slowly rising up into the air. This... this was no building. This was an aircraft!
