#1 of Here With You

It's finally here! I hate how much of a procrastinator I am and really feel sincerely sorry for those who may have been waiting for this. I had this portion done for maybe a week or 2, but there was some more on it. I decided that this was far enough for a chapter so I put all the other stuff into a new chapter and then edited this to my satisfaction. If you find any errors or have any suggestions please feel to tell me. Constructive criticism would be appreciated. Now, without further ado. Chapter 1 of Here With You (name still pending, suggestions?) Enjoy! ^,...,^

-Marcus-

The late night silence of my bedroom was the perfect place for me to think as I laid in bed, my thoughts wandering to a variety of places. Fragmented memories, images of my desires, small slivers of the dreams I've had countless times before, and all kinds of ideas floated around in my head. Among the crowded space of my mind, however, stood a single thought. The thought of the perfect mate.

My thoughts soon organized itself, turning the mess that it was before, to a stream of images and scenarios centered around the both of us as my imagination took hold. I am running across the beach, the sun slowly setting across the ocean beside me. As I splash through the cool sea water, he is playfully chasing after me, telling me to stop, both of us laughing the whole time as the waves gently crashed against the shore. Another scene had us lying down beneath a giant tree atop a hill, watching the clouds slowly drift by as we snuggled close together, the cool spring breeze gently rushing through our fur. Even so, I couldn't help but remember that these dreams were, at least for now, pointless. These won't ever become reality unless I first find someone to share these experiences with in the first place. I placed my fluffy tail beside me as I turned to hug it, fighting of the loneliness as I drifted off to sleep.

*Beep! Beep!* It is now 6 AM. Get ready for school Marcus. *Beep! Beep!*

My phone's alarm jolted me awake and I quickly reached a paw over to shut it off. Knowing my horrible habit of falling asleep again if I continue to lay there, I quickly got out of bed and stretched up. The stiffness in my joints quickly disappeared, leaving me feeling great and a lot more energized. I padded out of my bedroom, into the bathroom and stripped, preparing for my morning shower.

The steam rose high as I ran hot water into the tub, turning the cold tap to adjust the heat to something I could stand.I flipped the switch, causing the now reasonably hot water to spray out of the shower head and across the shower's tiled wall. I hopped right in, the hot water feeling great on my furred body as I lathered up. Minutes later, I stepped out into the, now steam filled bathroom, nice and clean. Wiping the mirror revealed an average height, slightly-toned wolf with gray fur with light-blue fur at the tips of his ears, as well as various other spots, and jet-black head fur. Deciding not to waste any time, I grabbed my toothbrush and brushed my teeth as I stepped into the small corner containing our fur dryer. As I dried myself, the bathroom door open and a smaller wolf with a slightly similar coat of fur as mine walked in.

"Mornin' Matthew." I tried to say while brushing my teeth.

"Mornin' Marcus." He yawned, undressing and stepping into the shower.

I immediately went to spit out the toothpaste and tried to warn him, but i was too late. He yipped as the handle was turned, and the still hot water cascading on him.

"Gah! Marcus! Why do you always have it so damn hot!" He yelled at me.

I chuckled at this outburst, "Matthew, by now you should have learned that it's always going to be hot after I finish." I rinsed the toothpaste out of my mouth and grabbed a hand towel to wipe my muzzle as he sighed in slight defeat, not wanting to argue so early in the morning. "At least you're a little more awake now. Hurry up, you don't want to be late for school now do you?" I called to him as I headed back to my room to change.

I quickly went through my closet and tossed on whatever I saw that seemed to go together, some jeans, boxer-briefs underneath of course, a plain red shirt, a gray hoodie, and my usual pair of black sneakers. I grabbed my phone and glasses from my desk before heading downstairs to the kitchen to prepare breakfast.

I had finished serving breakfast onto some plates by the time Matthew walked into the kitchen, dressed in a white polo shirt, the local middle schools here demanded that students wear them as a sort of uniform, and some jeans. He sniffed excitedly at the bacon and eggs I had made. "Set the table will ya." I asked him as I went to start the coffee maker and grab the jug of juice from the fridge.

As I took my place at the table, Matthew brought over some cups and sat down himself, but not before taking a jab at my cooking skills. "Hey! You didn't burn! It actually smells great this time!"

"Shut up!" I laughed, pushing him on the shoulder, "That was one time! You know very well that I was extremely tired. And, it's partially your fault. you wanted me to cook it on high heat so it would cook faster."

"Yeah, yeah," he replied, waving it away, "But either way, I still prefer mom's cooking."

"Oh! If you don't want it, I'll just take it for myself." I put on a serious poker-face and reached for his plate, before he knocked it away.

"Hey, no! I am still gonna eat it!" He growled at me, tail raised in anger. I rolled my eyes and chuckled as we started to eat.

Minutes later, after some small talk about school and a little more teasing to his annoyance, we finished eating and I got up to pour my morning coffee when I noticed it was already 7:30. "Dammit! I'm going to be late for school!" I rushed into the living room and grabbed my bag. "Don't forget to wash the dishes before mom gets home! You know she hates it when we forget to do that!" I yelled. He was about to protest as I slammed the door shut and sprinted down the block to the bus stop. Unfortunately, I was too late and the bus took off just as I turned the corner, leaving me standing there, staring in disbelief and out of breath. I was about to starting running after it when I noticed a silver truck pull up beside me.

"Missed the bus huh? That sucks." The driver said, staring at the corner where the bus was.

"Yeah, I guess I did." Was all I could manage, being the shy person I normally am. I took a glance at the driver and saw that it was a male fox that looked to be about the same age as me. Then again, I am a senior and for all I know, he could already be in college.

"Hey, you need a ride to school then?" the fox asked as he turned towards me, catching me by surprise and making me even more nervous than before. I should say no, but the way he looked at me, I couldn't help but feel like he really wanted to help.

"I probably do. But," l glanced at where the bus was mere moments ago, thinking about possibly making a break for it if things seem to go south.

"But what?" He asked, tilting his head a bit, seemingly curious.

"Are you even a high school student?" I asked him, being a little cautious and backing off just a little, keeping a close eye on the fox, the corner, and any other possible escape routes. "I mean, you look like you could probably be in college by now."

He seemed shocked for a second and went to look into his rear view mirror and studied himself "Heh, do I really look that old." He laughed, "Eh, it's possible, but seriously, I am a Senior at Cadenhill High. Look," he said, reaching down to his side for a second. "I'll show you my school ID, will that help?" he said, holding out the plastic card in his paw. I cautiously grabbed and studied it.

It was indeed the school issued ID card, from the paw print symbol and name, to the high-quality of the student's picture, which he looked reallyl handsome in. It seems he put a lot of effort into it even if it was just an ID picture. Normally, students would just dress casually, like a plain shirt and some jeans for these things, but not him. He was in white buttoned up shirt with a red vest on top and a small tie that matched his amber eyes. His short hair was styled in a spike to add a more casual flair to the image. I'm sure he had a matching pair of slacks as the ID pictures only took them from the chest up.

Feeling that I was staring at his picture a little too long to be simply studying the ID card, and making sure I don't end up drooling over his ID, I took a glance at his name and returned it. "Adam Blaine, huh"

"Yep, that's me. So, do you believe me when I say I'm in high school?"He asked, ears perking up a bit quizzically. I chuckled noticing it.

"Yeah, I do, and I feel I have no choice but to take your offer if I ever want to get to school on time." I replied, easing up a bit.

"Cool. Hop on in." he said, unlocking the passenger door as I made my way around.

I haven't really paid much attention to the truck, but now I noticed that it was amazingly shiny and clean. I opened up the door and looked in to see that the interior was just as amazing. I don't know much about cars, or trucks in this case, but from what I can tell, it's well made with black leather seats and what I assume was a touch screen GPS or something like that. I hopped right in, placing my backpack in between my legs on the floor and closed the door. As soon as I had my seat-belt was on, Adam switched gears and smoothly started driving towards school.

I was still a little nervous and felt stiff as I sat beside Adam, but still, I couldn't help but noticed what he looked like now that I was much closer to him. He was lean and really well toned and he, unlike me, looked really relaxed. His clothes were a lot more casual than what he wore in his ID card picture, wearing an orange flannel and some jeans. The sleeves rolled up to his elbows and I noticed that the dark gray fur on his paws barely went past his wrists, making it seem like he was wearing gloves.

I might have continued to stare and him, but, I didn't want to be caught. I was being a little paranoid, thinking that if he did catch me, he might get suspicious. All sorts of problems would probably rise up if he finds out I'm gay. Heck, I heard that some other fur in our district once got bullied and picked on to the point that his parents had to pull him out, all because they THOUGHT he was gay. I never confirmed it, but the idea of that happening scared me to death. Trying to get my mind off that thought, I began to stare out the window and silently count the number of houses we passed.

"You know," Adam said a minute later, suddenly breaking the silence. "I told you my name, but you haven't told me yours. What is it?" He turned his head to look at me.

I was a little reluctant, but he did have a point. "It's Marcus, Marcus Ramirez." I said, turning to look at him.

"It's a pleasure to meet you Marcus," He said smiling, turning back to watch the road as he turned a corner. We drove on and I looked straight on as well, taking a quick glances out of the corner of my eye to watch the fox. Suddenly, he quickly pulled over to the side and slammed the wheel, scaring the hell out of me. "Dammit! What was I thinking!" he yelled, putting his head on the wheel.

"Wha, what do you mean?" I was staring at him now, getting really cautious.

"I made an assumption and didn't bother to ask." He face-palmed himself and started shaking his head. "You do go to Cadenhill right?" he asked, looking at me for my response.

"Well, seeing that it's the only high school within a mile radius of that corner where you picked me up, yes. Besides, I probably would have said something if I didn't go there." I replied, relaxing now knowing that was all.

"Right, right.. Ok then... That's good." He looked relieved and started driving again a few moments later.

I turned to just stare up front again, when a thought crossed my mind. " Hey, why did you offer to bring me to school? I mean, we did just meet."

He hesitated a moment, but then answered,"Because, it's against my own personal beliefs to not help people who need it."

"And you thought I needed help? Ok, I know I would have been late, but why go through the trouble? Come on, there has to be a lot more to it than just your 'personal beliefs'." I said, turning to look at Adam again.

"Erm, well... I..." he said. I didn't notice that he was getting quieter and that he was tightening his grip on the wheel. "Ok, look. Do I really need another reason to help someone? What's wrong with just trying to be a good person and help someone?"

"Oh no, nothing's wrong with that at all. It's just, really weird, in a way," I started pouring all my attention on him. " I'm thankful, mind you, but you just came out of nowhere and all," My voice started rising louder." There just has to be more because I find it really hard to believe that someone would pick up a random stranger off the street, even if they a crazy belief like yours." I stopped myself there, realizing how harsh I started sounding.

To my utter surprise, he stopped the truck. I opened my mouth in horror, thinking he was about to kick me out when he said, "Well, it doesn't matter, because we're here. You should probably get out now. I mean, you can't stay in here forever you know." I looked out and felt relief wash over me. We did arrive at school. I guess I was too focused on him to notice.

I stepped out, grabbed my bag and turned around to look at the fox. "Erm, thanks, again. I guess I'll see you around later I guess." I closed the door and ran off to first period.
