Tribute To a Night I'll Never Forget

This is a free write. I didn't have any preconceived ideas; I just wrote to the music and saw what came up.

Working under the hood of the troublesome Audi, waiting for a phone call from you to reveal the secret you've been keeping from me for the last two days. I reached up to wipe the sweat from my forehead, silently cursing at the stubborn bolt holding the intake manifold in place. My ear flicked as I heard the familiar tune playing from my phone on the work bench. I slammed the hood closed with a sense of finality I never wanted to alter, running over to the device. I scrambled my greasy paws to grab at the seemingly increasing urgency of the ringing phone. Finally I was able to swipe away the screen saver, placing the earpiece to my nervously flicking ear. "Are you ready?" You breathed into the mic, keeping your anticipation deceivingly calm as I nodded my head and forgetting you couldn't see.

"Yes! I've been walking on thin ice these last days, what is this surprise?"

I Heard the receiver click, pulling away the phone with the taunting screen revealing that the call was disconnected. I growled as I squeezed my large paws around the device in frustration; my eyes widened exponentially as I saw the door opening slowly. I quickly ran to hide behind the door, anticipating a dangerous fur on the other side. Finally I saw the amber head-fur of yours, my heart dropping back down to a normal rate. You turned towards me with that seductive smirk from your masculine muzzle, throwing me a mesh bag full of clothes.

"Get changed, we're leaving in five." You spoke abruptly like a drill sergeant from all the military films I'd viewed over the years. I nodded quickly as I turned on my feet and sprinted towards the bathroom. I grabbed the gritty, orange soap bar to scrub the grease away from my calloused paws, drying them in the blink of an eye as I unzipped the grey coveralls and revealing my bulky white and grey fur beneath. Quickly dumping the bag's contents onto the counter, I changed into the clothes provided for me; I noticed the denim shorts and color splashed tank-top. I thought nothing of it as I attributed it to what was sitting dormant in my laundry basket. I opened the door and exited out as I buttoned the shorts, meeting your watchful gaze just before you turned on your feet towards the outside door.

I sprinted to meet your rapid pace, climbing into the passenger seat before shutting the door. I buckled my seatbelt and looked over to see you smiling for the first time today, opening the sunroof before descending the hill from the shop. I closed my eyes and listened to the wind rush over the opening and around the car, bringing a sense of calm to the rapid departure we made. I glanced up to the open window, watching the starts rush my as the occasional street lamp interrupted the beautiful sight beyond us. The street lights began to become increasingly common, signaling our arrival into a more populated area in town. I finally glanced down to see the crowed streets around the airport, turning to meet your smirk.

"Is this the surprise?" You nodded quickly as you made a zipping motion towards your lips, hinting at the fact that the surprise was yet to be revealed. We stopped the car 100 feet later and climbed out quickly, grabbing the bag you tossed at me. I followed your quickening pace as we pushed our way past the mobs of furs, getting closer to the ticket counter as my heart picked up the pace faster than it had anytime I could remember.

"Hello, how may I help you?" "Two tickets to the next boarding flight, please."

"Which destination did you want to travel to, sir?" The attendant asked with a confused tone, matching my own except mine was peppered with anxiety along for the ride.

You turned your head over my shoulder, grinning widely before quickly meeting the eyes of the attendant again.

"We don't know. We just want to be on the next flight to go anywhere but here."
