Jason tilted his head to look out the window as Ken continued driving. They had spent the evening at dinner and getting to know each other. He still played the conversation in his mind and all the things that Ken had told Jason about himself. Jason had asked the Shepherd what it was that he did for a living. "Ooohhh, this and that," Ken had answered. "I do some kitchen work and some photography, a little bit of mechanics and electrical work."
"Wow, you do a whole bunch of stuff," the husky had replied. "How do you find time for yourself?"
Ken shrugged. "I don't take a whole lot of vacation days, so I could just not show up to work and no one would worry." Ken had leaned forward, bracing his elbows on the table. "What about you? I mean, I know you work at the diner, but what are your plans for the future? You're not planning on staying in the diner your whole life, are you?"
Jason shrugged and looked down. "I don't know. I stay at the diner because it keeps me busy, plus the pay isn't bad."
"Yeah, but, forever? You don't want to get a career? A house? ... A family?" the Shepherd questioned.
Jason sighed. He didn't know if he should tell him, he still wondered if it was the wise choice to tell him even now, but so far, he couldn't think of any reason not to.
"I used to have a family... more or less..." The husky said after a moment. "A uh... h-husband..." he subconsciously fiddled with his left ring finger where his old wedding band used to be.
"That panther?" Ken asked.
Jason nodded. "Yeah. Him. We uh... we met five years ago in college. We both seemed to like the same things and eventually we fell in live and got married... I was only nineteen and it was the worst mistake of my life..." he was quiet for a moment before continuing. "He used to be a really sweet man. I don't know what happened, but not long after we got married, he just, changed; he was always mad, and yelling, and-..." Jason cleared his throat. "But that's over now. We've been divorced for three years now, and besides;" He raised his pitch in his tone and tried his hardest to sound like Taylor Swift. "We, are never-ever-ever, getting back together!"
Both boys laughed.
Now, Jason looked over to Ken, who was still driving to some unknown location. "I don't feel like going home yet," the shepherd had said. "Let's go somewhere else first."
"So where are you taking me?" Jason asked when the silence was beginning to be too much.
"You'll see," Ken cooed. "We're almost there. Hey, close your eyes."
"What?"
"You heard me" he looked away from the road and to Jason. "Trust me."
Jason made a face before reluctantly squeezing his eyes shut.
He sat there, eyes closed and curiosity wondering as the vehicle came to a smooth stop. He heard Ken's door open and close, leaving him alone for a few moments before his own door opened. "Give me your hand," the shepherd said, taking the husky's hand into his own and helping him out of the car. Jason sniffed the air, a blend of salt and roses littered the cool night breeze. "No peeking," Ken reminded.
"I'm not." Jason was lead through what felt like grass and soft soil for a moment. He was skeptical about where he stepped, half afraid of the ground falling away beneath his feet.
"Okay," Ken finally said, stopping Jason. "You can open them now..."
Jason opened his eyes to find himself a few feet away from the edge of a cliff. Just beyond the edge, far on the ground below, sat the slowly dancing, moon reflecting sea over the glistening sand. Around where Jason was standing spouted random rose bushes as they themselves danced in the gentle breeze. Other flowers poked through the tall, uncut grass, bobbing around inn place. The air, the sound of the waves and bushes all seemed to be singing a song that the flowers and sea seemed to be dancing too, the moon itself shining a spotlight unto the singing scenery.
"Wow..." Jason breathed, trying to take in the beauty.
"Great, isn't it?" Ken said, sitting down at the cliffs edge as he dangled his foot over. "I really like it here."
"It's amazing, Ken..." Jason said. He sat down next to Ken. Both of them were quiet as they listened to nature singing it's love song. Unforgettable, Jason thought to himself. This is truly, unforgettable...

It had been at least two hours before Ken noticed the time. They had enjoyed the beautiful sight of the moonlit scene and the conversation between the two. It was a wonderful date, Jason had to admit; Kenny was a really sweet man and he would be lucky to have him, but Jason knew more than anyone how kindness can turn to abuse in a heartbeat.
Ken was, again, behind the wheel as he drove Jason home, the digital clock in between the two read 1:53 am. They rode in silence, not a bad silence, an enjoyable one. They rounded the block where Jason's apartment was within view. Jason was about to thank Ken for the wonderful night when the shepherd spoke first. "Hey," he said, pointing to a red car parked across the street from the apartment. "Isn't that your ex hubby?" Jason looked more intently at the familiar looking vehicle. It was, in fact, Henry's car with the panther himself waiting inside, most likely for Jason to return. He hadn't noticed Ken driving slowly on the street.
Jason sighed, feeling the letdown of such a nice night. "Yeah... he probably want's to fight again..."
Ken pulled over in front of a stranger's house and shifted to park. "What are you going to do?
"Probably go and fight with him. Wish I had somewhere to go for the night..." that last part he said to himself under his breath, not meaning to be heard.
Ken's ears perked. "Do you have somewhere to go?"
Jason shook his head. "No, I don't have many friends."
With that, Ken shifted back to drive and took off down the street, passing Henry's waiting car quickly. "Where are you taking me now?" Jason asked.
"My place."
Jason looked over to the shepherd, hoping to see a hind of sarcasm, but there was none. "Oh, Ken, I can't accept that."
Ken laughed. "That's why I didn't ask."
Jason was quiet. The way he saw it; it was either go back and risk going through Henry, or stay the night with someone who generally seemed to care for him... "Thank you..." he finally said.
"Sure thing, but there is a catch," Jason's heart jumped as a thought invaded. "My family is staying with me... and I have a BIG family. They can be a bit... difficult, but they mean good. They should be all in bed by the time we get there, so you should sleep peacefully tonight. Can't say the same for morning though..."
Jason smiled and nodded. "Thank you," he said again.

The ride was short, only taking about ten minutes to get from Jason's apartment to Ken's house. Ken lived in the more expensive district. His house was huge, about three fourths the size of Jason's entire apartment building. Several vehicles littered the street in front of his house as well as the long, wide driveway.
Ken parked his truck and helped Jason out. "Wow, nice big house..." he said, feeling suddenly very small.
"Yeah, we decided to move into a bigger house where everyone helps pay the bills and where there's not as many bedroom sharings." He said. He let Jason to the front door and opened it to revile a nice, carpeted hallway that broke off on both sides. To the right sat the living room, a large area littered with white furniture and glass coffee and end tables. A large flat screen television was plastered on the back wall with several cords drooping down and connecting to the Blu-ray and Playstation.
On the other side of the hall was the kitchen. The kitchen was absolutely spotless; the purly white marble tops glistened in the moonlight shining through the spotless windows. The tile floors shone from recent waxing and various devices blinked in a LED blue color.
Further down the hall, it broke off again, to the right was the game room; a room with pool tables, foosball tables, air hockey, and a row of three televisions, each with either a Wii, Playstation or Xbox connected to it. Video game discs lined the T.V. stands next to the consuls.
To the right was a workout room, filled with various work out/exercising equipment and several smaller televisions that were still on, some played the news while others played late night sitcoms.
Just a bit further down the hall was a staircase ascending to the next level up, and a second set descending into further darkness. "This is a really nice house..." Jason whispered.
"Thanks," Ken whispered back. "C'mon." he took Jason by the hand and lead him up the stairs onto the second floor. The second floor was all doors leading to bedrooms. Ken's room was the last one at the end of the hall. His room was large, and surprisingly plain. His bed was black with white sheets. Two night stands were perched on either side, both containing a black lamp. A dresser, and a television were all that inhabited it. "Have a good night," he said as he started to walk back out the door.
"Wait!" Jason turned. "Where are you going?"
He pointed back to the staircase. "The couch."
Jason chuckled and took Ken by the hand, pulling him back in and gently kicking the door shut behind him. "What are you doing?" Ken asked through a toothy grin, his tail already wagging his tail.
Jason put Ken's hands on his hips as he stepped on the tips of his toes to whisper in the shepherd's ear, "Getting ready for bed." He dug his thumbs into the waistband of Ken's pants. The shepherds tail wagged faster and faster as he nuzzled Jason's muzzle. "And maybe saying thanks..."
Ken chuckled as he licked the husky's cheek. "Thanks for what?"
Jason had already taken off Ken's pants. "For the wonderful night," he panted.
Ken's hands slid down Jason's rear as he picked up the smaller male. Jason's legs wrapped around Ken's waist as their lips met for a kiss and he carried the husky to his bed. He playfully threw Jason onto the bed and crawled over him. He lowered his head to kiss the husky again.
They wrestled to get their clothes off and onto the floor around the bed. Ken pulled his head away to get a good look at Jason's exposed body. "We don't have to do this, you know," He said, rubbing the fur on the husky's waist. "I don't mind just being here with you."
"I know, but I want to." Jason couldn't stop himself from saying those words. Maybe something inside of him really did want the shepherd...
Ken smiled as he leaned down and kissed the husky again...

Let's picture our glass heart; still misshaped and ugly, black with the abuse of it's past, and cracked from the torment it has gone through. Now imagine water falling onto the delicate heart continually, washing away the black stains it bore. It glistened in the dim light, now free of its black marks, but still very fragile and beaten up. It is unsure, but it might just be... happy...

The sun shone beautifully through the window down onto Jason's face. The husky woke slowly, feeling the warm embrace of Ken's muscular arm wrapped around his torso. Jason smiled, a real smile, a genuine smile, something he hasn't done in years. Wow, he thought to himself. I had only known this man for a day, and already he's shown me more love then Henry every could have.
The abused part of his mind was screaming at him to get out, get out of this relationship before he got in too much deeper. It was hard not to listen to it, as it has been the only thing he's listened to for so many years, but his heart was telling him to stay and give this man a chance.
Ken shifted behind him, letting out a sigh as he slowly awoke. Jason turned in place so that he was facing the waking shepherd. "Morning," Ken said in a gruff, tired voice.
"Morning,"
Ken rubbed a sensitive spot in the small of Jason's back, sending electric waves up his spine and making his fur stand on end. "How'd you sleep?"
The sound of an exited crowd began to illuminate from down stairs. "I slept great, actually."
Ken's ears rotated to the door as he listened to the commotion. "That's good. Sounds like the family's up."
Jason opened his mouth to say something when they both heard the creaking of Ken's door opening. They both looked over to the door as it slowly opened before three little blurs dashed into the room. They all landed on Ken's bed with a thud as Jason saw three young boys. The first boy looked the oldest of the three, Jason guessed he was about six. He was a cute little fox, orange white and chocolate fur shinning in the sunlight, his big green eyes were darting back and forth between Ken and Jason. The second boy looked to be maybe a year or so younger then the fox. He was a dark gray furred wolf, and though his fur coat was plush and soft to the touch, it seemed to reject the sunlight all together. His eyes were much like his fur, dark, and sunlight proof, and though he might not have been the literal brightest, he seemed to have a cheery demeanor and happy wagging tail. The last boy was clearly the youngest; Jason guessed the boy to be three or four, at the most. The little border collie carried around a green blanket trice the size of him, and a stuffed fox toy in the other hand. His soft brown eyes made it hard for Jason to look away.
Jason pulled the covers further up to make sure that no unnecessary fur was showing. Ken didn't seem to care whether the boys saw him completely nude or not. "See," the wolf boy said to the fox. "I told you that it was a husky. I know my species good!" he boasted.
"How do you know he's a husky?" replied the fox.
"Because of the colors, and the smell."
"Well, he could be like, some kind of discolored poodle or something." The fox gestured to Jason. "You have to check the tail to be sure."
The collie looked up to Jason, innocently. "Can we see your butt, Mister?"
"Okay!" Ken said quickly, clasping his hands together to silence the boys. "Jason, these are my nephews; Jerry," he pointed to the fox, who waved and tail wagged. "Kyle," he then pointed to the wolf, who was too busy brushing his fur down with his claws to notice. Then he looked over to the collie boy. "And that's Bobby."
"Nice to meet you boys." Jason said, waving to the three.
"Yeah, nice to meet you too," Jerry said quickly. "Hey! Can we really see your butt?"
Ken propped up body up on his elbows as he glared at the fox boy. "What do you three want?"
"Mom wants to know when you're starting breakfast." Kyle said, looking up from his fur for a moment before resuming his grooming.
"Soon, I'm going to get dressed right now. Now get out!" he said, pointing to the door. All three boys scrambled off Ken's bed and out the door, giggling to themselves. When the door finally closed after the bushy tail of Jerry disappeared behind it, Ken looked over to Jason with a sigh. "Sorry 'bout that."
Jason shrugged. "It's okay, they're cute."
The shepherd leaned down to kiss Jason on the forehead before he threw his legs over his side of the bed. Jason looked over to Ken's exposed back and tail as the shepherd leaned down to pull up his boxers. He stood up and made his way to his dresser. He pulled out two shirts and a pair of dark blue jean pants.
Jason sat upright on the bed. He looked down to the floor to see his own pants and underwear, but his shirt was nowhere to be found. Ken tossed one of the shirts across the room to Jason, who caught it and examined it. It was a light grey long sleeve shirt with an outlet design on the front. He had no idea what the picture stood for, but didn't really care either. "Thanks," he said as he pulled on his own underwear and pants before throwing on the shirt. It was much too big for him; the frame hung off his body loosely and the sleeves drooped a good three or four inches from his fingertips. "Oh good," he said, looking down at himself. "Room to grow."
Ken chuckled. "Cute," he mumbled as he threw on his own shirt; a seemingly tight, light blue t-shirt with sunglasses printed on the front. "Wanna help me with breakfast?" he asked, making his way for the door.
"Sure," Jason walked up next to the shepherd as the two walked out the door.
They walked downstairs and into the hallway. Immediately, Jason saw several of Ken's relatives walking from one room to the others. Some glanced over to the husky in curiosity, but most just didn't seem to care.
The sun lit up the entire house, making it seem as if the scene was brand new. Jason noticed that most of Ken's relatives were canine. He didn't think much of it, but maybe they wanted to keep the family purely canine?
"Ken!" a feminine voice said as a black furred wolf rounded a corner from the living room. "There you are, are- Oh!" her eyes fell upon Jason. "I'm sorry, I didn't notice you there! You must be Jason?"
The husky looked from the wolf to Ken, back to the wolf. "Y-yeah, how'd you know my name?"
She giggled. "Oh, Kenny Boy here might have mentioned you once or twice."
Jason looked up to Ken, who was clearly avoiding his eye contact as his ears flattened on his head bashfully.
The wolf extended her arm and Jason shook her hand. "I'm Selena, Kenny's older cousin."
"Mama!" the familiar voice of Kyle said as he tugged at Selena's shirt. "Are we having breakfast soon? I'm hungry!"
Ken nodded to the boy. "Yes we are. I was just on my way to start it."
Selena smiled and picked up her son as Ken lead Jason to the kitchen. "Are you the only who makes breakfast?" Jason asked as he rolled up his large sleeves.
"I'm the only one who can make a GOOD breakfast, yes." He chuckled.
"NOT TRUE!" A low, heavy voice said from somewhere inside. Jason looked to see a heavy, shaggy looking German Shepherd sitting on one of chairs around a small kitchen table. "I can make a damn good ham and bacon!" he chuckled.
Ken nodded in agreement before gesturing to the older male. "This is my grandfather," he said to Jason.
"Call me Gorge," he said, heaving himself off the chair and walking over to Jason. He took the husky's hand in a firm, almost painful handshake.
"My name's Jason," he said, trying not to show his obvious pain.
"Oh yes!" he said, scratching his chin. "Lazy ass over here's mentioned you a couple times." He jabbed a thumb towards Ken as he laughed.
"Thanks, dad," Ken said, unimpressed by the older man's sense of humor. "And I'm not lazy!"
"Then what else have you been doing up in bed other than-..." his eyes dropped to Jason. "Oh... I see."
"Dad!" Ken swatted the old dog on the arm as he turned to walk out of the kitchen, laughing at his own joke. Ken sighed and shook his head. "Maybe it wasn't such a good idea to bring you here just yet."
Jason smiled. "It's fine, he's just messing with you." He stood on his toes to kiss Ken on the nose. "Now how about that breakfast?"
