Chapter 3

A new beginning

After they stood there for a moment looking at each other, Foxitious thought about his dinner over the fire. The sun was starting to set, turning the sky a dark purple. The stars started to come out, speckling the night sky with glowing lights. Foxitious looked up at it for a moment watching the stars show themselves." Would you like to come inside?" Foxitious said as he looked back to Excalibur and pointed to his house. Excalibur grind happily, "I smell stew, if you're anything like your mother you can cook." Excalibur said laughing. They walked passed the garden, to the door into the house. Foxitious opened the door to let Excalibur in. Excalibur looked at Foxitious with a funny, awkward look and began to walk into the house. He had to crouch to get in, once he was in his ears were hit the roof. "Roomy...." Excalibur said jokingly. "I built it myself for my height, would have made it larger if I knew you would be coming to my home." Foxitious said slightly ashamed.

Being the first time he had talk to another fur since his parents, he was trying to be nice which made it strange for him. "Hey don't worry about it Foxi boy, it suits you." Excalibur said smiling. " So how about some of the stew? I am starting to drool." Excalibur said licking his chops. Foxitious walked over to his kitchen area, opening the cabinet and grabbed the bowl he made out of clay and the last spoon he had from when his parents were here. After grabbing them he walked over to the kettle over the fire. Foxitious grabbed the a large scooping spoon and started serving the stew up. After scooping the stew Foxitious walked over to Excalibur who had a very large grin on his face. "looks delicious". Excalibur said profusely drooling now and licking his chops once more. Foxitious gave the bowl and spoon to the wolf, Excalibur took them both. He then started to literally wolfing it down, startling Foxitious slightly. An awkward and confused look overcame Foxitious as the bowl was passed back to him after just giving it to him. "Oh boy that's good! Can I please have some more? I have not had food since I left the school." Excalibur said with joy, his large tail wagging around vigorously.

Foxitious took the bowl and served some more to the large wolf. Who once again wolfed it down, and passed it back again. "You are a great cook, this is amazing! You mind if I eat some more?" Excalibur asked. Foxitious was not worried about running out, but merely about how in the world this wolf was consuming food straight from the kettle. "Please help yourself, I have plenty stored as well." Foxitious said to Excalibur happily. The large wolf walked over to the kettle sitting over the fire and grabbed It in his paw, then he began to eat right out of it. This made Foxitious's face drop to the floor, his maw hanging open at the sight he was seeing. "Um Excalibur sir.... Should you be eating it right from the kettle like that? You should be screaming in pain from the heat of it." Foxitious asked in confusion. The wolf stopped wolfing the stew down and looked up at him. "Oh don't worry about it, I can handle heat like this." The wolf said still chewing slightly, muffling his voice. Excalibur continued to wolf down the stew. Foxitious sat down on his bed, and continued to watch him wolf it down. A few minutes later the wolf finished his stew and let out a big sigh. "Wow thanks again for the food Foxi boy it was good. Best I have in a long time." Excalibur said with a large grin, then placed the kettle into Foxitious's make-shift sink.

The large wolf walked over to an open spot on the floor near the bed and sat down. Foxitious looked at him, trying to smile but still confused with what had happened. "So Excalibur why are you here? Is it about my parents or something? Are they okay? Why were you able to eat the stew from the kettle, without burning yourself?" Foxitious asked in confusion from the information he was gaining from meeting this wolf. Excalibur smiled at him. "I am a master of all three basic arts of magic use, healing, and sword combat. I can bend fire, shape water, move earth and force wind. I am a master of magic, I can change my coats color to blend in with anything I want. My armor is made of magic itself, created by me." Excalibur stopped to show what he meant. In a flash the wolf was all black, even his armor changed its color. He had become pure shadow fading into everything around him. Foxitious was a little scared at this point, seeing this made him uncomfortable about what he was seeing and who he was seeing. Excalibur changed back to a clearer look of himself, he stuck his arm out to the embers in the fireplace and snapped his finger. Fire erupted from his paw making the room illuminate, his pads never burned or did his fur catch fire. He held it, moving it from paw to paw, he made shapes from it, colors of blue, red, orange and yellow.

Foxitious became mesmerized by this display, by what this wolf was showing him. Excalibur extinguished the flame as the room went darker then before. The wolf smiled at Foxitious. "You like?" The wolf asked grinning. Foxitious was still surprised at the beauty the wolf had created right before his eyes. "It was brilliant, I have never seen anything like that. Well besides my parents a couple of times." Foxitious said joyfully then a little sad when mentioning his parents. Excalibur picked this up fast, "Well enough fun for now, about your parents. It is hard to say, seven years ago they were needed by me at the school. That is why they left you." The wolf said slightly sadly and slight looking at him under his eyes. "Many years ago before you were born, the first humans came to Eternal from a land called Ode. Ode is a land across the sea, ruled by a very untrustworthy human. His name is Drakious Manufious, Drakious when we met him the first time he seemed fine, but all four representatives Eternal including me agreed that Drakious was someone who just wanted to conquer and control everything.

We agreed to a peace treaty that we wouldn't wag war on each other, that we would trade goods and work together." The wolf took a deep breath. "The five representatives of Eternal agreed we needed to teach our power to the furs of this land to aid them. That is when we created Excalibur's Light, fifty miles from Sun's Light, a town that use to be here. Not too far from your home. The five of us taught others both humans and furs our magic. Many humans came to Eternal to seek out our understand of existence and why of life. Darkious's is completely different then ours. He soon learned about our school, and summoned us to his kingdom in Ode." the wolf paused for a moment. "I used my magic to teleport the five of us to the kingdom of Scarlet Heart, Drakious's kingdom. We met Drakious once more, he had felt our school was some sort of training camp for war. He threatened us about it's intention, I explained to him our intention was not to cause a conflict between our treaty between them. It seems we had fallen into a trap, we could not foresee. We gave him our word to never attack, the five members split up. I took over the school and your mother and father came here to start a life.".

The wolf burped suddenly, which broke the ice between them. Excalibur laughed joyfully seeing Foxitious get a kick out of it. "The other two are Leo and Olympus, who are wandering Eternal seeking to aid, help and server where they can. Darkious himself created his own school, teaching his own skills to others. Thirteen years later I got a letter from Drakious, a declaration of war on Eternal by Ode." The wolf stopped and looked at Foxitious, his eye were eager to hear more. This made Excalibur sad, but none the less he continued to inform the fox. "I called upon your parents to scout the incoming invasion... I didn't hear back from them for a long time about a year. Your mother explained the situation.. That Drakious was declaring a mass war on Eternal. That your father had died saving her from the first assault of Drakious's army. She told me I was responsible for you now, and where you were living at. We lost contact with her, I tried contacting her telepathically, but I got no response just a dream of them both together." The wolf started to cry, trying his best to hold back the guilt of asking them to do it. To put his pack members endanger, when he himself should have been the one to go. Excalibur took a deep breath and stood up.

He walked over to Foxitious, he picked him up and gave him a hug. "I am sorry about your parents Foxi if I could go back, I would have gone back to do it myself. In my dream they told me to tell you they are always there for you and that they love you very much." Excalibur was doing his best to not cry, because he didn't want to make Foxitious cry either. Foxitious was beginning to cry, he was filling with sadness and remorse for the loss of his parents. He didn't know what to do with himself, he wanted to cry and howl in pain, but not in front of Excalibur. Foxitious tried to get out of the wolf's hug, but couldn't. "You can cry Foxitious, there is no shame in that." Excalibur said, and then with that Foxitious began to weep soaking Excalibur's chest fur. Excalibur's armor was warm just like his fur, Foxitious had not been hugged in a very long time. Foxitious soon ran out of energy and began to yawn. "Can you please set me down now? I would like to get some sleep. I have things I can let you use to sleep on." Foxitious said slightly shamed he had cried in front of this stranger. But something about Excalibur himself made Foxitious feel safe.

The wolf placed Foxitious on his bed and smiled, then sat back down. Foxitious grabbed some of the blankets he used as bedding and tossed it to Excalibur. "Thanks" Excalibur said. Foxitious smiled and laid down. The fire of the fireplace still creating a slight glow to the room, soon Foxitious was out like a light. Excalibur heard Foxitious sleeping and went to bed himself.

Chapter 4 Watch and Learn The next morning Foxitious woke up to the sun coming threw his window, hitting his face like normal. Looking to his left to see Excalibur sleeping, his tongue lolled out of his muzzle and a cheesy grin on his face. Foxitious sat up from laying down, got off his bed. All of a sudden Excalibur leaps up from laying down, and startles Foxitious by giving him a frightening look,. Foxitious was shocked at this point confused as to why the wolf had leaped up like that. "Is everything okay Excalibur?" Foxitious asked awkwardly, with wide eyes. The wolf realized where he was at, and relaxed. "Sorry about that, I forgot I was here" Excalibur said laughing slightly. Foxitious looked at him oddly, then smiled. "Um.. It is okay, shows you know how to defend yourself." Foxitious said looking at him, then heading into his kitchen for water. The fox stuck his muzzle under the mouth to the water pump, grab the pump handle and started to pump out the water. He drank for a moment, the water passing by his muzzle. Then saw that the wolf looked parched as well. "Would you like some water? I don't have any glasses though so you will need to drink like I did." Foxitious asked Excalibur. "Sure, I could use some myself. Though I don't need a glass to drink the water. Watch." Excalibur said with a grin as he walked over to the water pump.

The large wolf stuck his hand under the spout and pumped the lever, the water cam out but didn't go passed his handpaw. It stopped in his hand and began to fill up, as if he was holding an invisible glass. Excalibur stopped pumping and showed Foxitious his handy work. The water stayed in place, it didn't fall or move on its own. "This is water shaping." Excalibur said seeing the aw in the fox's face, and smiled. The wolf began to drink the water from it's invisible container, until it was all consumed. Foxitious's face was still in aw, by the display the wolf was doing. "How do you do that?" Foxitious said quickly to the wolf with wide eyes. Excalibur laughed, seeing how amazed the fox was with this arts. "You have to understand water it's self to shape it. Water is malleable it takes shape, any shape water can take it. The trick so to use magical energy from your soul to shape it into what you want, threw thought then action. You must first be able to see it in your mind, to shape it in your hand. Water has energy, this allows our energy to shape it, not control it. You need to respect the waters properties and water, to shape it. More or less becoming one with the water, to shape it." Excalibur explained strongly.

"I do not control the water, I become one with it to shape it. Controlling water is impossible, it does what it wants when it wants. It flows threw you fingers if you scoop it, never can water be controlled." The wolf said getting more water from the water pump. Excalibur then shaped this water into a ball, "water is not selfish, it is willing to work with you if you work with it." Excalibur said shaping the water into a point of a spear. "It can be anything you want it to be, when you learn to work with it." The wolf said as he froze the water solid, "Understanding water allows far more abilities to its use." Excalibur said handing the frozen spear to Foxitious. Foxitious grabbed the spear from the wolf, when he touched it, it burned like fire and dropped it. The ice spear shattered upon the wood floor. "Don't fret, watch." The large wolf said, as he moved his paw over the shattered pieces. The piece came back together, back into the spearhead like before. Excalibur picked it back up, and unfroze it then drank it. "Water is just one tool of my teachings." The wolf smiled brightly seeing the magic in the fox's eyes.

"You, yourself Foxitious were born with magic like this in you, you can do everything I can. I am going to teach you how to become one with the magic of Eternal and within yourself." The wolf said with pride, he knew that Foxitious was going to be great, in the ways of magic and sword combat. Suddenly Excalibur's ears twitched, a sound outside caught his attention. "Damn, no time... We need to move Foxi, they found us." Excalibur said sighing. The next thing that happened the front door was kicked down, a human walked in with two others following him. "We found you Excalibur, we will get a great reward for your death." Said the human standing in the middle. Excalibur growled deeply with an udder furiousness. "I doubt that you and your lackeys can take me. You underestimated my power and that will be your downfall," And with those words from Excalibur's armor appeared larger and shinning like fire.

The large wolf growled once more, "Get get behind something now Foxitious, hurry" Excalibur said without looking at Foxitious, who was dumbstruck at this point. Foxitious snapped himself from his moment of blankness and hid under the counter. The moment he started moving, the three humans started charging withdrawing their large two handed swords, their red blades shinning in the afternoon sun coming threw the window. Excalibur roared loudly and charged, a large sword of fire appeared from his hand. The large wolf blocked the incoming blow aimed for the distracted fox, and counterstriked the human that was in the middle. His sword hit the human in the chest, with the flat end of his blade knocking the wind out of the human with a mighty blow. The human fell over gasping, the one to his left came charging next, then the one from his right. Excalibur didn't move, he opened his palms, "Close your eyes Foxitious!" The wolf shouted. Foxitous jumped and closed his eyes tight.

"Ahhhhhhhh" Screamed both attackers, as a blinding light flashed from the wolf's palms. The two humans fell to the ground holding their eyes with their hands. Excalibur's fiery sword vanished, and he grabbed Foxitious who still had his eyes shut. Excalibur then ran with lighting speed out of the house, with Foxitious over his shoulder. Who was clinging tightly to Excalibur. The wolf was running at ridiculous speeds, trees were flying past Foxititous at speed he had only seen his father move at. Excalibur then leaped onto branches, leaping from the like Foxitous's father had on the rocks. Higher they climbed with each leap of the wolf's footpads, they reached the tree topped. Excalibur stopped on an open branch, and began looking around for signs of more Scarlet Heart troops. "Sorry about all that Foxitious, I had hoped I lost those guys before I found you yesterday." The wolf said still looking around intently. "I would put you down, but we are about forty feet up or more" Excalibur said still looking for something. Foxitious looked down, then wishing he had not.

"Well it seems we lost those guys, I just disabled them." Excalibur said beginning to leap down the tree branches, to the forest floor. "I will be able to teleport us to the school from here, I am warning you now. This is your first time being teleported a mass distance, you are most likely going to feel sick after." Excalibur said putting Foxitious to the ground. "Here take my hand, and I will begin." The wolf said offering the fox his hand. Foxitious took the wolf's large paw, he has saved him already, so the uncertainty of the wolf left the fox. Excalibur smiled. "Well off we go. Chito-ish-van-sh-flo." Excalibur said, with a flash of light they vanished from the forest floor. Another flash of light, then Foxitious saw he was in a large room. The room was huge compared to his home. The ceiling was at least thirty feet up, with art and writing he couldn't make out. There was a chandelier made of metal that hung high, illuminated by tall candles that were not melting. Wolf heads lined the points on it, the heads had a look of strength on their face. Three large stain glass windows sat behind of a large desk made of a dark wood, which sat to the back of the large room.

The floor was white marble, with a large carpet spread across it, made of what looked to be purple velvet. The carpet stretched across the floor, from the desk at the three large stain glass windows that sat behind it. From the desk the carpet ran a large distance to an even larger door made of dark wood as well. The door had more wolves heads in them and writing, the heads looked just like the others on the chandelier. The whole room itself was large and made of large stones, like a castle. Bookshelves lined the walls of the room, made of more dark wood and full of books. They stood tall like everything else in the room. In the center of the room on the purple velvet carpet was a stand made of black marble, with a large white covered book and a sphere next to it. The writing on the book glowed golden, but Foxitious couldn't make it out. It was in a text the fox had never seen before, just like the door, bookshelf and chandelier.

Foxitious was still looking around at all the things he had ever seen before, then felt rather sick. He grabbed his stomach and looked at Excalibur who noticed this. "Oh no, you okay Foxi?" The wolf asked, "You don't need to vomit do you?" The wolf asked worried about his office smelling like vomit. "No I am okay just feel light headed, my stomach is in knots though." Foxitious said looking pale in the face fur. "Lets get you some food and a robe to wear." Excalibur said walking over to the fox. The wolf placed his paw around the fox and led him to the large wooden door.
