The Corporate: Part 2 of 8
The boredom was stiffening. As Harold sat in his chair, glancing over each and every chart that
every marketer had been shoving at him. Harold hated board meetings, but they were necessary and he knew
that. But just now, the man presenting revealed one particular chart that sparked Harold's interest.
The chart was regarding a predicted spike in commercial activity. A spike which fell on the twenty-fourth
and lasted until the twenty-sixth.
But those dates fell on the company's Christmas shutdown. And while Harold had never truly cared
much about Christmas, he couldn't simply cancel everyone's vacation. Or could he? The company had always
maintained a strict morale policy. And if it was any other way, he would have every employee working
overtime during times like this. But Harold couldn't just pass up this opportunity. To hell with policy!
Harold had made up his mind.
When the marketer in front of him suggested to open immediately after Christmas day, Harold slammed
his fist on the table. No! The company would run all through vacation at full capacity. The company would not shut down
this year. The dismay of the announcement was visible around the room. Upon seeing this, Harold ordered them all back
to work and declared the meeting over.
Harold was proud of his decisive action. In his office, he poured himself a tall glass of scotch and
lit himself a cigar. These would indeed be happy holidays, for him at least.
