All the eyes and ears in the room were upturned at full attention on kevin. The jaguar's muzzle had already decided what to say, yet his mind vacillated franticly over what was surreal fantasy and the secular truth. Every moment seemed to pass at it's own languid pace. Each one nudging Kevin every so slightly to speak up. His paws constricted around his spotted arms, anxiousness hugged the spotted feline with his quivering paws.
All around, an unsettling silence sat beside every one of the furs resting in the assorted chairs and couches circumventing the low sitting coffee table. They waited for the Jaguar standing to speak. Footpaws were propped onto the small table and backs were slumped in their seats. Going around the table in a fold out chair sat Christian, a hyena that at the moment sat leaning forward, looking quite attentive. On the leather couch next to him a stocky tiger named Derrick who was slouching, and scratching nervously at a tuff of fur on his chin. The tiger's footpaws were propped onto the table, and as Kevin's eyes rolled past all the furs around him, he believed he saw the tiger's footpaws twitching a bit.
Markus, a black furred wolf sat on the couch with the brooding tiger. The tiger's searing green orbs were practically burning holes into Kevin's face. The wolf looked to Derrick and restlessly propped his chin up on the armrest looking to Kevin with cautious eyes. Just as all the other's his stare rested on the jaguar. Finally, there was Whitney, perched on her fold out chair beside Kevin. The red vixen sat at full attention just like the rest as she bushed some of her black head fur from her face.
Kevin's gut churned inside of him as his lips began to form words that had been so unmentionable for so long he had forgotten what they sounded like outside his head. His mind continued to whir and twirl finally coming to a stop. His personal wants beat out common sense by a long shot.
"Yeah... I am." Kevin heard himself whisper it, but still couldn't believe he had. All the feelings of apprehension set into the present as his eyes widened looking around him at a room filled with furs he thought he knew so well. Now he wasn't so sure at all, examining expressions coaxed in antipathy and outlined with a newfound repugnance for what he had decided to share.
"Dude, you're kidding me right." Derrick said inquisitively, his brows furrowing with scorn. Kevin thought the tiger's voice seemed as though there were a latent anger lingering on the edge of it. The sound of it made Kevin's ears pin flat against his head.
Kevin's stomach felt tight in his chest, but he shook his head. The jaguar's breathing started to quicken as the disgust he saw started to become thick around him. Although the vixen and wolf seemed almost puzzled rather than angry.
Derrick ran his paw over his face. The tiger glared at Kevin and the jaguar could see an uneasy anger boiling inside the big cat. "For Christ's sake Kevin." The tiger snorted. "No you're not man. You are not fucking gay dude."
Kevin was scared. He felt discomfort heavy on his shoulders as his vision jolted franticly from face to face, he looked around himself to find some of the worst of his predictions animating. His legs shook underneath him. He willed them not to give out. Kevin refused to show what this was doing to him. His heart was pounding in his chest so loudly he could have sworn someone else would have heard it. He knew where this was going and it made tears well up behind his eyes.
"...Really?" The spotted hyena spoke plainly, clearly ignoring the tiger's remark. The hyena leaned forward in his seat, the nuance in his voice being the innocent interest he spoke with. Kevin blinked in surprise at the pure look of curiosity in his eyes. He'd been hopeful about this, but he hadn't expected any of his friends to react like....friends really.
It had become especially quiet in the room. The only sound was the soft beat of the radio in the background. Everyone in the room turned to look at the hyena for a second with puzzled contortions of their muzzles. He glanced around at them for a moment, but kept his gaze on the Jaguar unfaltering. They all brushed off his comment, and turned their attention back to Kevin.
"Yeah." Kevin said looking down to the carpet. He suddenly didn't feel so alone standing in front of everyone.
"Oh." The hyena said in blandly. Falling back into his chair. "Okay."
Kevin looked on from the corner of his eyes as the tiger bolted up from the couch and practically stomped over to the hyena. The tiger's fists were balled at his sides. Christian didn't stand. The tiger looked to be so angry that kevin thought steam could have popped out of his ears.
The tiger spoke with a growl behind every word. "Okay!?... Are you fucking retarded Christian!" Derrick yelled down to the hyena's face, fangs bared. "You can say okay when there's a tail raiser standing in your living room!" Kevin watched as Derrick pointed a finger viciously at him and the jaguar jumped in surprise. Christian glared up at the tiger as he rose from his chair, neither of the two's glares deviated from one another for a second.
Derrick chuckled distastefully. "But you would know about all that homo shit anyway wouldn't you..." Kevin could see the hyena tensing while Derrick spoke. "...Your pops being a cocksucker and all."
Everyone's eyes looked like saucers. Christian's eyes widened. The hyena brows furrowed, he shot up from his chair, standing point blank in Derrick's face. The hyena's lips raised into a snarl as he barked.
"Fuck you!" With a growl. Christian's face was contorted in anger. The tiger's invective vilifications boiling Christian's nerves. Animosity guided his limbs like a puppeteer as he reached out and grabbed the tiger's collar. Christian yanked the slightly taller male closer. Rage at it's purest etched onto the hyena's face. He cocked his free paw back in a fist, and with a tug of the string he swung. He popped the tiger dead in the jaw and knocked him back into the couch with a thump.
"Whoa!" Markus yelled catching the tiger before he fell completely and rested him on the couch. The Wolf held his paws out in defense. "Hold on Christian!"
Kevin's heart was racing. He cupped his paws over his maw in his astonishment.
"It's alright kevin." Kevin heard it be whispered into his ear. His fur stood up a bit on edge as he turn to his side to see Whitney holding on to his arm. He'd forgotten she was even here. Apparently she had moved to his side with that furtive quickness he thought could only be vulpine.
Since when do furs fight over someone else's problem? He thought. This wasn't how he pictured this happening at all. He didn't want any of the two getting beat up for or because of him, weather or not they accepted him was irrelevant. Everyone here was still a friend to him. Before he even could notice his footpaws had decided to move, and he was beside the hyena doing his best to hold back tears.
"Wait!" Kevin said with a shaky voice as he held the hyena's ready fist in his paw. He looked ahead to Derrick, sprawled out on the couch one hand holding his maw. He knew that tiger enough to know that any second he was going to be up and pounding his fists into Christian's face if he didn't say something. "I'll just leave. It's obvious that I'm not wanted here anymore." Kevin looked around. Markus and Whitney's eyes pleaded with him. He took the silence as his answer. He turned to Christian and whispered a sincere "Thank you" into the hyena's upturned black ear. The hyena relaxed himself, his face soften, and Kevin could have sworn that after all that he saw a hint of a blush on Christian's brown tipped muzzle. Kevin walked past the tiger on the couch, and headed for the back door with dignity in his pocket, but a head filled with the stormiest weather.
Thump!
Kevin heard Whitney scream.
"OH MY GOD KEVIN RUN!" The vixen shouted.
The spotted feline froze in place. His rounded ears caught the pounding of heavy footsteps behind him. The breath he'd held frozen in his chest melt as he turned around knowing he wouldn't like what he'd see. Time slowed from a roaring, quick flow of water over a waterfall's ledge to the drip of faucet.
Orange. Lots and lots orange shredded the floor up under it's wake as the tiger dashed after Kevin, the couch had flipped over behind Derrick, and Kevin thought he saw Christian and Markus trailing after the tiger. The jaguar probably could have ran out the back door and ran away without a scratch. He definitely could have. Although, he didn't. He didn't flinch, run, or hide, because this was going to happen. This was going to happen to him along the line of his life at one point of time or another and he knew it. If someone that had known him for as long as Derrick had could turn on him because of this, then what was stopping someone who knew nothing about him, that had just picked up on a tip someone let on about him, from deciding to go out for some queer bashing on Kevin's expense?
Harsh, hasty breaths were pumping from Derrick's nostrils by the time he made it up to Kevin's face. Kevin never really noticed how tall the tiger really was until now. Derrick stood close to half a foot taller than the spotted feline. Kevin had to look up to see the tiger's face. Derrick's face seemed strained, the tiger's lips were pulled so far back that his fangs were visible to the gums. The rolling rumbles of hisses tumbled from the tiger's maw. The big, stripped cat's body was tensing under the wife beater he wore over his thick build.
The tiger gripped Kevin's neck tightly. The smaller cat winced at the feel of the tips of Derrick's claws on the sides of his neck. Derrick lifted Kevin off the floor, Kevin felt the tips of his footpaw nails tapping the floor, right at the space between the big cat's thighs. The jaguar glanced past Derrick's mug and saw the wolf, hyena, and vixen coming up on the big cat's heels.
The twin purple spheres in Kevin's head seemed to be as dead as the listless morning fog over a pond. He shifted them lazily to Derrick's, then down the tiger's huge arms to his strong chest, then lower to the imprint of his abs through the thin cotton. Derrick's eyes sparked and he cocked his fist back.
"Fuck Kevin," The tiger hissed. Kevin closed one eye as the hot breath beat against his whiskers. "You sure as hell better not have been doing what I think you were."
Kevin stared into Derrick's eyes and smirked meekly. The grip around his neck was tightening. It was getting harder to breathe. Kevin croaked. "What if I was.... What're you... gonna do about it... cutie?" Kevin chuckled hoarsely and gripped Derrick's wrists, wincing as Derrick squeezed his neck into a vice like grip. Kevin's eye's were a dull, dead purple when he practically whispered. "Nothing."
"Nothing..." The tiger shook his head in disbelief. "Nothing!?" Derrick roared and bared his claws and swung them at Kevin's face. Kevin shut his eyes and shook his head whimpering. The smaller feline shouted, and on reflex swung his footpaw between Derrick's legs.
Derrick roared in pain and dropped Kevin to the floor. Kevin palmed his cheek and sucked in air through gritted teeth as soon as he did so, coughing and huffing, his lungs burning for air; he leaned back against the backdoor, his eyes half lidded, and slipped into vertigo.
All he could see now were shadows. Shadows and silhouettes, tussling and wrestling around a black, hazy fog lowering itself around him and all the light in the room. In his last few seconds he managed to crack an eye open, the view was dark, but he could make out the form of two pointy ears, shoulders, and spots, getting bigger and bigger, until all he saw was black.
Thanks for reading. That's all for now folks. Comments and such are always a treat. :]
