DSIU: Chapter Five
#6 of DSIU: Dragon Soldier Infantry Unit
Finally the time has come for me to post the next chapter of my story series DSIU. Sorry for the extra long delay, but without my laptop and internet, it has been kind of hard to post. Now that I moved out of my Dad's house and Johnstown has a public library, I can post again. I hope it is up to par with the rest of the story. Chapter six should be coming up shortly, possibly next week if my plans hold together alright. Now without further delay I present Chapter five of DSIU: Dragon Soldier Infantry Unit, oh and as always comments are encouraged and welcome
The trio of dragons stuck close together, the hallways now full of dragon bloods, the peak of rush hour seemed to be enhanced by the recent dismissal of the lower classmen. Most of them were about sixteen years old or younger, teen-age and naive; however a few older members appeared here and there in the scuffle, trying not to trip over the energetic youth. Fraolith dodged a young golden male that had stumbled a few feet in front of him. He twirled around and did a sort of cartwheel with his legs, all the while he managed not to let go of Aedial's hand.
Shamira giggled at the motion that ensued, smiling coyly as she stated cheerfully, "Still practicing your grace and agility I see. Can you ever cease to amaze me Fraolith?" She laughed heartily and looked over at the pair, both still holding hands and seeming to be happier now that they were openly dating. After a while, she turned her gaze to look at Fraolith directly.
The way Fraolith had saluted the General Astorathen at the ceremony must have meant that he had to meet him face to face. In the time they had on their walk to the recreation center, it was as good a time as any to ask the question that had been eating at Shamira since the end of his speech at the ceremony earlier that day. "So Fraolith, I have been meaning to ask you about earlier today." She cleared her throat and watched Fraolith flinch in apprehension.
He immediately countered, "WH-what about... d-did I do something stupid on the speech? Oh god I made myself look like a fool, didn't I? I knew you guys were lying to me..." He shrank back, before he noticed Shamira smiling at him, which eased him slightly, causing his defensive stance to soften, after which Aedial squeezed Fraolith's paw softly in comfort. Fraolith relaxed completely and sighed, raising his eyes to meet Shamira's.
When Shamira was fully confident that her friend had fully relaxed, she continued with her question. "When you saluted General Astorathen, I assumed that you had met him face to face. What I want to know is HOW didyou manage to run into General Astorathen on your way to the ceremony?" She tilted her head before continuing, "I mean it's not every day you run into a Draco Ki General of the Dragon Soldier Infantry Unit, least of all one as famous as him."
Fraolith looked over at Shamira and grinned, embarrassment flooding his face and his frills turned their usual deep golden color. The tension eased in his shoulders as he tried to hide the fact that he was blushing. He then responded, his defensive nature having completely melted away. "Well it kind of was my fault that it happened. I wasn't paying attention to where I was going, and he came out from a side hallway." Fraolith chuckled, before he saw and dodged another scuffle in the hallway, a dragoness that was going to be late for her next class. Some of the dragon bloods actually chose to remain at the college within the facility, which never ceased to humor both Fraolith and Aedial. With a twist and a turn he stepped around the obstacle.
He instantly continued once he righted himself tail flicking slightly as he resumed his stride. "Instead of something like that happening, we ended up rolling around in a heap of scales. The next thing I knew I came to a stop on the floor with a very pissed off green dragon blood above me. I guess being a guardian saved my life," He gestured to his mark, flicking it with his talon, "Because Asto seemed to sense it. And in the end we seemed to get along. I really hope that it can play to my advantage. Perhaps this run in can get Aedial and I recruited into Asto's squadron."
Shamira chuckled at Fraolith's description of what happened. She smiled and responded cheerfully, "Perhaps it may as well happen, because with a pair of strong guardians, such as you are, you would be a pair to be reckoned with. Alone the both of you are lost, but together..." Shamira nuzzled the both of them then patted their shoulders simultaneously. She then continued gleefully, "How would General Astorathen even be able to refuse such a blessing, eh?" Shamira smiled and patted the two on the shoulder again in the same way as before. Contentedly they marched on, their friendship seeming to have strengthened over the past half hour.
Before they knew it, however, their playful banter was cut short as they heard the tell-tale sounds of electronics, computer beeps, and all sorts of different games in action at one time. Here and there the occasional classic phrases of, "Hey! That's cheating," and "Oi! No fair man, that's my kill!" was heard from up ahead. The recreation center was about ten minutes away. The three just smiled and nodded their heads as they broke into a run, racing on the large space of hallway that had managed to open up, and within two minutes they had entered the room. Fraolith won of course, because in some areas Aedial and Shamira had to slow down because of an unexpected obstacle or fellow dragon blood. Fraolith didn't ever have to slow down, his reaction time very fast for a dragon blood, and elicited a few "Whoa" and "War der krisa?" or 'what the fuck,' translated to English from the hallways occupants. When Aedial and Shamira arrived through the metal threshold, Fraolith was laying there on his stomach waiting for them. He smiled and coyly, stating "that's twenty-five now in a row, you really have to start analyzing your environment faster. Next thing you know you'll slice a limb off and I will be laughing, after which I would heal you..."
Their destination was already set from the moment they walked through the doors, walking now with a steady determination to the same machine that they always used when they came. It was a battle simulator, where they got to fight against each other in a battle style all their own. Sometimes they would spend a night in there on a large questline fighting together as a single unit. And in this machine there was no fear of death, so they would go all out in their combat. First one to thirty kills wins the match.
They all grinned as they approached the giant chamber as the whirring of the computers on the inside softly pulsed with a steady white light. The metal databases housed a multitude synaptic transfer systems that calculated the immensely large amount of data that came from the minds of the users. The machine itself took the brainwaves from the user through a fully immersive visor. The visor hooks into the mind via synaptic receivers that make the brain enter a relaxed state, allowing a person to enter any combat situation, be it guns or blades; past, present, or future. You smell the environment, and even feel the environment; with the wind and trees as well. If you were on your own, you could have a military career without the danger of dying even with adding the perception fully lethal ammunition and pain.
The three dragons clasped hands and shook them, stating, "Drakiran Neda," or good luck in common tongue. This would be the last time for a while that Fraolith and Aedial would be able to do what came to them inghthostinctually in a safe way, because their calling was in the real world of combat. They all walked in the chamber, grabbing a visor and linking up to the machine. It whirred to life and accessed the memories of the three. With a flash of light, the three entered the battle field and began to battle it out in a Soul Calibur style three way match.
Shamira grinned as she saw Fraolith and Aedial appear in front of her at either side about fifteen feet away. They waited until they heard the signal to begin, and when it sounded, she struck out first and landed the first hit, when suddenly it was cut short by a few quick slashes from her right flank from Fraolith, followed by a quick evade so she could parry another blow from Aedial.
Aedial deflected the sword attack that followed the parry, before landing a hit to Fraolith, followed by a few strikes and a grab from Shamira. The fight had depleted about three quarters of Aedial's hit points, so he was almost eliminated from the round. Fraolith himself had taken a few strikes, but his health was the greatest this round.
Shamira managed to land a few more hits to Aedial and his avatar fell over k.o. It was only between Fraolith and Shamira. Fraolith grinned at Shamira and then without missing a fluid motion he spun around, knocked Shamira back with his tail, and finished with a triple slash and stab grab maneuver that incapacitated Shamira. She fell down in a gasp and was respawned again along with Aedial and a smiling Fraolith standing there, the score already 1-0-0 and the time limit today was about thirty minutes.
After they were finished battling, the final score was 15-5-10, Fraolith taking the top spot as he always did. They walked out of the recreation center, Fraolith carrying a smug look on his face. He then looked at Aedial and smiled, nuzzling his cheek softly. Fraolith stated, "Hey Aedial that was a nice finisher on the last match, what a way to cap the final match, although it looks like I came out on top again." He flicked his tail back and forth in exaggerated wags, teasing Aedial with the fur on its tip.
"Laugh it up Fraolith, because I will _so_kick your ass at basic training. You just wait and see!" Aedial snapped a retort back at his friend, a playful grin crossing his face as he snuck a kiss at Fraolith's cheek, before looking over to Shamira. His next statement was directed to her. "Hey Shamira, could you tell my parents that I will be staying at Fraolith's residence tonight, and that I will call them in the morning via comm-interface, to let them know I am okay."
Shamira nodded, and simply said, "Sure can Aedial. I hope you have fun tonight. Just don't get in too far over your heads." They all smiled as the glass doors closed behind them with the soft sound of pressurized air, afterwards a red bar slid across the glass and blinked, "CLOSED" in big yellow letters. They exchanged hugs one last time, then parted ways. Shamira went back towards her home, disappearing around a corner, her tail finally disappearing from view. The halls were a little less noisy now, and Aedial clasped Fraolith on the shoulder, pulling him into a tight hug.
Fraolith prummed in contentment at the hug and murred, before he stated in a relaxed tone, "You know Aedial, I always wanted to ask you about dating, but could never get up the courage to do so. I hope we end up in the same squadron. We probably won't ever be more than Drakiran Commanders though."
Aedial grinned and gave a soft kiss to Fraolith's maw, closing his paw in his as he gestured with his head towards the residential sector of the facility. "Probably not, but right now who cares about that, we haven't eaten dinner yet. I am not worried about my parents though. I trust Shamira, and I want a good meal. My parents always burn my Porterhouse steak, while your parents always make it so nice and medium rare.
Fraolith nodded and smiled, his own stomach growling as well, his own hunger becoming apparent. Fraolith smiled and nodded, before walking with Aedial towards his home, hand in hand and tails intertwined, hoping to be together for a long time. They hummed a battle tune on the way, looking out the catwalk window that overlooked the courtyard to watch the setting sun as they walked, Fraolith smiling and opening his wings, letting the sun reflect all over the walls from his scales. "And this is your perfect sunrise, Aedial Sithoranda. I hope it strengthens your heart as it does mine. And it is not just for the class of 2013, this one is for you, my love."
Aedial blushed at the gift, and not knowing what to say, he hugged his new boyfriend happily, content in the company and the sunrise. When the sun was too low to make a good color from Fraolith's runiton scales, they headed onwards towards Mirvanda's residence where Fraolith lived, happier than they were at the beginning of the day.
