Chapter Fourteen

Dante, Erebosian Wolf

_"The courage of life is often a less dramatic spectacle than the courage of a final moment; but it is no less a magnificent mixture of triumph and tragedy."

--John F. Kennedy_

Narr felt nothing, yet he felt everything, he thought dimly that he was hearing the sounds of loud machinery, gears and pulleys working together while a loud whirring sound was coming from somewhere below him, he felt that he was laying down, or rather, after moving about a bit, strapped down to a table.

He didn't open his eyes, not wanting to look into the bright light that he saw from behind his closed eyelids. After a few seconds, the whirring stopped, and the light dimmed, his hearing still a little muffled, he slowly opened his eyes and saw through his hazy vision, that figure was moving around him, untying him from the table.

"R-riskar?"

He asked, as he tails twitched a bit, wrapping around his legs as Riskar freed his left arm.

"Yes, I'm here."

"What happened? Why am I-"

"I'll explain further later, but you got shot with a dart when we were fighting the warthog back there and were injected with a radioactive disease of some sort, it seems to have been experimental and I managed to just get you cured via this radiation filter, but now we really have to move it! The soldiers might be coming back any minute!"

Riskar then finished untying the poor fox and helped him up, staggering a bit, Narr felt very weak after the transaction he'd just gone under, his eyes glinted faintly, and he almost would have fallen if Riskar hadn't caught Narr's slender form just in time.

He helped Narr over to the doorway, which after discovering it had locked by itself, he blasted open with a spell. They turned to walk down the hallway, after a few minutes of walking, Narr was already feeling a bit better, and insisted on walking on his own.

As they rounded a corner, the barrel of a gun was suddenly pointed directly between his eyes. He glanced quickly to Riskar, and saw one pressed to his forehead as well.

"Get the raccoon!"

Narr noticed the barrel of the gun falter and sink a bit as the soldier, a snow noble looking snow leopard, looked to Riskar, this was all the fox needed, snatching the barrel he pulled it towards himself causing the soldier to stumble forward, he twisted the gun out of his paws and turned it to face towards his face.

A look of fear crossed it before Narr pulled the trigger, and fired a bullet directly into his skull.

A few seconds later as the shock of the sound of gunfire settled Narr felt a sudden pain in the back of his head, before collapsing into darkness.

He woke a few minutes later, face to face with the leopard on the ground, where a pool of blood was slowly seeping out of the bullet hole and creeping towards Narr.

He jerked backwards and got up quickly, he turned to see the soldiers shoving in front of them Riskar, shuffling him towards the direct of several doors. Narr looked to the gun to the ground and quickly snatching it up, holding it with two paws he aimed and clicked the trigger.

No ammo.

Cursing he cast it aside and ran after escort. He reached the doors just as they shut and locked, leaving Riskar trapped within them. He banged the doors with his paws yelling for them to open up, his tails flailing about him in a panic.

His ears perked up and he looked down the hall in panic as he heard hundering boots coming towards him, he looked to the other side of the hall and saw that the doors leading out of the base were wide open.

He ran towards the door, unhitching a small canister from his belt, just as he flew out the doors, he twisted in mid air and threw the canister behind him into the building, he landed on his feet and ran a good few meters before a soft metal cling sounded showing that the object had landed.

As Narr rounded the block, he heard the explosion, and had the most contradicting feeling he'd ever had in his life. He hoped that the canister had killed Riskar and all the secrets he knew, and he also prayed to any divinity that heard his prayer that he survived the explosion. He glanced behind him as he ran, his hood bobbing as he saw orange flames rise up into the sky.
