Nicollett\'s begining

Story by Nicollett Karu on SoFurry

As a small child I had a pretty large family. I had a younger sister named Elisa she was the sweetest lapine anyone would ever meet. Then there was the oldest, my brother Allen. He was quiet the bully upon me and Elisa. Perhaps it was because we were the only two girls out of the four of us. When it came to others picking upon us, Allen was the first one to come to our defense. He was a good brother that way. Then there was Eric the second oldest. He was quite quiet mostly. He always stayed to himself. Then there is me, the oddball of the family. I stick out like a sore thumb for I am the only pink bunny out of the lot. My father Boris was a black and white lapine as was my mother Carmen. Elisa was a full black lapin as was Allen. Eric was a full white lapine then there was me.

There was some speculation that the color of my furr could have been a curse upon me. For to have a child out of your color is not a good omen upon the lapin community. My mother tried to keep me sheltered during my young years. I always fought with her for I wanted to go out and play with my siblings. i use to sit at night and just think of all the fun things that all the other children were doing. I would stand up in my room and run around as if I was playing at a park or just running through a forest line. Those thoughts always brought me happiness during my dark saddened hours of my childhood. I was about 11 when I finally got the nerve to sneak out in the middle of the night from our little den. When I snuck out all I had on was my regular tattered clothing for we did not have much money in our family. My mother did the best she could for us children. She made most of our cloths but they would have to last years. I was due for a new outfit that year. I put on a large brown cloak that belonged to my father. As I hopped out of the window I took one last look at my home determined to make my own in the world. I started to head toward the guided by the moonlight. Oh how I smiled feeling the cool night breeze up my face. I spread out my arms as I walked feeling free for the first time in my life. I made it to town about twenty minutes later. I looked around the alleys trying to find a good place to snuggle and keep warm until the dawn approached. The town was so quiet and lifeless all the light off and all the shutters to the home and business closed.

I must admit I was quite frightened. It must have been about four hours till the dawn lights started to break the horizon. I looked up to the sky watching the beautiful sunset awaiting for my new life to begin. I looking around in great anticipation on to was to come. An hour passed as I started to hear the footstep and voices of the town's people awaking and eating. My tummy growled slightly from hunger. I had not thought to pack something to eat for the morning breakfast. Hmm it is silly the things you forget when you are in such a rush to begin something new. *chuckles softly just thinking about it* I stepped out from the alley looking around watching all the towns people begin to open their shop and start to set up. I walked around the streets looking into the store windows in awe of all the beautiful stuff that lies within each store. When I passed the food shops my stomach growled a little more but I made myself not think about food.

I stopped in front of the bread shop looking in the window. My nose started working taking in all the scents of the backing breads. I walked in looking around. The shops were very beautiful to me then again I have never left the safety of my own home before. I started to walk out as one of the workers spotted me. It was a bright white lapine with the most beautiful crystal blue eyes. It felt like she could just see right through me with those piercing eyes of hers. "Hey you!" she yelled in my direction. I stopped in my tracks fear overtaking me.

I turned around looking to her shivering slightly as a fierce look came upon the woman's face. "What are you doing in here WE ARE NOT OPENED? DAMN KIDS" her voice came with such fierce and dominance. I could not help but jump and run out of the store in fright. I heard her laughs as I departed the store in a great hurry.

I ran to the nearest alley way and ducked down hiding shivering pulling the large cloak around my body to hide myself from anyone passing. I wanted to cry but I forced myself not to telling myself that I was grown and grown lapines do not cry from loud voices. I had not heard such fierceness in a voice before. I stood gathering my courage and stepped out of the alley way and started to walk the streets once more. I made myself Waite till one person entered the store before I did. I would enter making sure to be hidden under the cloak fully. I could feel the eyes of all the lapines upon me curiously looking over the cloak. I turned only to bump into a large brown lapine the hood of my cloak falling backward uncovering my face. The man's look was of utter surprise. He quickly covered my face once again.

He bent down looking me straight in the eyes. His were the darkest brown almost black yet enticing. I could not pull my gaze away. "Cursed child what has you in the town?" My ears drooped under the cloak. I could not understand why he called me cursed.

"I am just looking around" my voice came out soft and shaky for I was obviously scared of the large lapine. His eyes gazed upon my cloak looking it up and down as he grabbed my arm and pulled me out of the store.

I wanted to yell out in fright but did not want to call attention to myself from the words that came from the man. I fought his grip with all my might but i could not pull away from such a large man. He pulled me over to the smith building where he escorted me in. I look around my eyes searching for any escape route fearing that the man would try to hurt me. He turned me to face him. He bent down so that his eyes were level with mine.

He pulled back my cloak to reveal my face once again. His eyes once again filled with this shocked look. "Stay here" he said to me in a very stern voice as he went around and started to close the entire shutter and the door. He locked the door with a key blocking my only escape. My heart started to race watching this. He looked back to me obviously seeing the fight within my eyes. "Do not worry child i am not going to hurt you." He walked back over pulling a chair out for me to sit in. I looked over the chair and then back to the man. he gave me a reassuring nod, he went on to pull out a chair for himself sitting upon it watching me closely. I sat down after i was sure he was not going to stand again. I looked over him as I watched him eye my face with such concerning eyes.

I let out a small scared eep as his eyes seemed to piece right through me. I felt as if he was just going to rip my soul out of my body with the way he staring at me. "Child you should not be out. Where do you come from" he looked at me with such intense curiosity and fear at the same time.

I started to shake pulling the cloak around me as if it would protect me from any harm. "The karu farm" I spoke my words cracking at every silibol. I looked down trying to escape his gaze. His eyes flared with renewed curiosity i noticed when I looked back up to him once again seeing his gaze off of me.

"So the Karu family you say" I nodded slowly wondering what this curiosity is for. "Carmen only had three children." my ear fell upon the back of my head as pure shock fell upon my face.

"She had me too!!" I screamed tears welling up in my eyes.

He just looked to me a small smile coming upon his face. I growled in sadness and anger as I saw the smile developed upon his face. "I knew she had a daughter that they said died at birth. Now I understand why they told such a story."

I shook my head in disbelief. My mother would never say I died. "She would not have said that!!" I screamed at him the shaking in my turning to sobs.

"Child you are cursed. Pink furr upon the lapines in this village is seen as a curse. The last one that was born there was a great fire. I was blamed on that child. Your mother said such things to protect you from harm" his voice had such tenderness in it. I looked up crying my heart breaking now knowing my new life upon the town would never be.

He looked to me shaking his head slowly. He slowly raised his hand I think to not frighten me. He leaned forward whipping my tear away. "Child do not be so sad. There are ones who care for you dearly." His eyes grew sad as he continues to look upon my face. "That child was my son. This town grew angry after the fire. They searched for him. I had to send him away to save his own life. It has been eight years now since I last seen him." I looked into his eyes to search from the truth. To make sure it was not a lie, his eyes only showed such sadness. The kind that would break the strongest of hearts. I looked down away from his gaze the shiver over my body slowly starting to fade. My heart ached hearing such a thing. Then sudden fear gripped at my chest. I stood up looking around frantic.

"They are going to come after me?" I asked in such a frightened tone. I am sure anyone listening would have had the fear of myself grip upon them just from the fear emanating from my voice. He just looked at me shaking his head.

"I would not let such a thing happen. When I first saw your face i thought you were my son young and back in my arms". His voice came out with such sadness. "I am sorry I acted to harshly. "His voice emanated with such sadness. I almost wanted to become his son just for the love he obviously had for him. I looked down once again ashamed from bringing such pain to such a caring man.

"I am sorry" my voice came out small almost not audible.

He moved his hand to my face raising it slowly. "Do not feel sorry child you made me feel the love once more for my son. I thought I had lost it. It was good to feel such a feeling once again." I could not accept such a thing. I heard a sudden knock against the door.

"Gunther why is your door locked!!?" a man's voiced yelled from the other side. I jumped in fear ready to bolt out the door.Gunther our now named Brown lapine quickly grabbed my arm pulling me back into the shop more. He shoved me down behind one of the vats where he heated his metal to create his swords. I ducked down pulling the cloak over my head once again shivering in fright.

"Be quiet and do not move you understand me!" his voice came out so stern and demanding all i could do is nod. I don't think the fright gripping at my chest would have allowed me to move anyway. I peek my head slightly out just to see what was going on. He walked to the door smoothing out his cloths gathering himself as he unlocked the door. He slowly opened it to reveal a light brown and white lapine on the other side of the door. "Sorry Derek woke up late Still setting up. Can I help you with something?"

I took in a deep breath even afraid to break as the the light colored lapine forced his way in to the shop looking around suspiciously. "What is it that you need Derek" Gunthers voice roared with pure irritation from the male just bursting into his shop.

Derek our light brown lapine looked back to Gunther. "I came for my sword Gunther. What has gotten into you?!" His voice emanated with anger as he started to walk toward the vat I was hiding behind. I tried to back up more but there was nowhere to go. I ducked down pulling the cloak closer to by body a small whimper escaping my lips. I quickly moved my paw to my mouth terrified he heard the sound.

Gunther obviously heard the sound as he made a coughing sound. Derek looked around his ears twitching before looking back to Gunther. "What are you trying to hide?!" his voice getting angrier with each passing moment.

"Who are you to walk into my shop accusing me of hiding something!!" Gunther voice emanated with pure anger as he stormed toward the vat stepping in front of Derek only a few feet away from me. "Leave my store now if you know what is good for you! I will have a delivery boy bring you your weapon his voice demanding and angry as he pointed to the open door with his left paw. All I could hear were the loud footsteps of the two men as I fully covered myself trying to look like a lump of clothing

I dared not move or even breath once again hearing the loud footsteps. I could not tell where they were going. My chest started to pound pure fright starting to grip at my heart. i pulled my left paw up to my chest trying to calm my hear fearing they would hear such a loud heartbeat. "You better watch how you talk to me. I am your best customer." Derek yelled at Gunther as he started to exit the door. Gunther proceeded to close the door after him immediately. He placed a board in front of the door to give him enough warning as to someone else entering the shop to hide me once again. He walked over to me tapping my shoulder gently. I jumped in fright falling backward upon my back letting out a small eep.

He looked down to me. "Calm yourself child he is gone" He grabbed my arms pulling me up to my feet and placed me in the char softly. I sat there shivering in fright my heart still racing. I could not believe all that has been told to me. I shook my head looking up to Gunther.

"You should not put yourself in danger over me. I will run home quickly." I looked down wanting to know more of his son but not wanting to put him in any danger.

"Are you mad child?" he roared in anger. "It is pure daylight out. If i spotted you by bumping into you in a small uncrowned store, those crowded streets they will spot you quickly. You will bring danger upon your family maybe even death. you are going nowhere" he was so demanding in his tone. His voice nearly sounded angry at the thought of me doing such a thing.

"I...I" He cut me off in mid sentence by placing a paw over my maw his ear twitching hearing voices outside the door.

He moved me into the back hall of the smith shop and hid me in a tiny broom closet. "Do not move till I come and get you". I placed my ear to the door to hear what was going on in the shop. All I could hear was the sounds of many footsteps entering the smith shop. I started to move some of the cleaning products around very carefully to make sure not to make any noise. I cleared out a little corner of the small closet and sat myself in it. I moved my back softly around until I found it comfortable in the crack of the corner. I then started to place the cleaning objects back around me. I could not see what they were for it was pure darkness inside the shop. I felt the objects with my hands to figure out what they were. One was a straw broom. Its bristles were hard and stale like. That one I placed right in front of my feet to cover them. There was a bucket or pale could not tell. The texture was to smooth to tell the difference, I placed that one next to the broom on the left to hide any shadow casted from me if the door were to be opened. There was a larger broom. It was very wide with many bristles to clean the floor with. I have never felt such a broom before. I wondered if every store had such a broom, pushing the thought from my mind I placed the broom in front of the other one to make sure no one would be able to see past them and then see me. The last object was a large board of some sort. As I ran my paw across it I almost let out a small eep as something poked into my skin leaving a painful picking feeling. I placed the board to the right of the broom to hide my body from view.

As I finished covering my body from all view I started to hear voices rising. I pushed my left ear to the wall to be able to hear what they were yelling about. I heard the familiar voice of Derek screaming at Gunther about his rudeness earlier. I shrank back just for a second shaking my head knowing I got Gunther in trouble. As I placed my ear against the wall once more I heard an unfamiliar voice "Gunther we do not want trouble like we had with your son. Is there something you are hiding? Has he come back?" the voice was so calm in speaking almost as if she expected nothing. The voice was that of a female. I raised my right paw to my maw concerned for Gunther.

"No he has not returned and I hide nothing. I have the right to tell someone to leave my shop if I choose to do so!" Gunther's voice range with anger once more.

"Please calm yourself Gunther I mean no disrespect. I am only trying to get to the bottom of this situation. You have not acted in such a manner since your son was here" The females voice seemed more soothing as she spoke this time.

"You brining the curse back I know it!!" Derek's voice chimed in with no disregard. It sounded full of fright and suspicion. All I could do was listen. I closed my eyes shaking my head once more. I wanted so bad to burst out of the closet to help him. To stick up for Gunther but his words echoed through my head "You will bring pain even death to your family" I just grinded my teeth and continued to listen. I ran my left paw over the wall as if trying to reach out to Gunther trying to sooth his anger. I did not want him in any more trouble because of me.

"Come now Derek no such accusations should be thrown about like that. The curse has been gone for many years now. Nothing has happened to make such a thought even accruable." Her voice seemed harsh as she talked to Derek even demeaning in a way. I pulled my head away from the wall not wanting to hear any more. I placed my paws over my ears to cover any muffled voices the emanated through the wall of the closet. I laid my head back against the back wall of the closet and positioned myself so my back and side were supported in the crack of the corner. It must have been hours before Gunther opened the door looking for me for I feel asleep.

The first Thing I remember was his arms wrapping around me. I did not even hear him move the cleaning supplies around to get to me. I opened my eyes squinting because of the bright light of the shops. My eyes used to the dark for the many hours of being inside it took a few minutes to adjust once again. "Is everything alright?" I asked whipping the sleep out of my eyes quickly as my eyes darted around checking the room for anyone.

"Everything is fine. Just that nosey Derek trying to start trouble again."

I just looked at him my eyes saddening. "I am very sorry I got you into trouble. I shall leave tonight."

Gunther looked down at me with just as sad eyes. "You cannot leave tonight that damn Derek has guards at my door.

" I looked to the door trying to spot the siluetts of the guards but could not. The door was solid wood. "This town has guards?" I asked obviously dumb to the world around me. Gunther just with a toothy grin looked around and chuckles.

"Not really they are just Derek's lackeys. They do whatever he says. Derek is the so called big shot around these parts. He has half the town in the palm of his paw." The grin upon his face faded as anger filled it. "It was Derek who had my son ran out of town. The others were not so hard upon Josh as Derek was. They saw he was only a boy and did not want to harm anyone. Derek would not let it go and kept bring up that pink furrs were cursed. Finally the whole town turned against him." Gunthers eyes welled with tears as I listened and watched him.

"I am sorry about your son. What should I do?" I looked to him for an answer but all he could do was just shake his head.

"Let's find you a place to rest for the night you must be very tired." I shook my head even though a yawn escaped my maw. I was tired but not physically only mentally. Gunther made a bed out of left over straw from the bar outside his shop. I laid myself upon the straw falling to sleep shortly after. It was daylight before Gunther woke me and told me to go hide in the closet once more. I looked around almost thinking it was all a dream and that I was still dreaming. It wasn't till Gunther pulled my up and placed me upon my feet that I realized it all had happened. I dashed to the closet getting in quickly. Right as I closed the door I heard the door of the shop open and then quickly shut. The voices were in whispers I could not make out what they were saying. I cuddled to the crack of the corner covering myself once more as I heard the footsteps getting closer to the door.

Tears started to well up in my eyes as fear ripped at my chest as I started to hear the knob of the door being pulled upon. I tried to push myself further back but there was nowhere for me to go. I pulled my legs close to my body laying my head upon my knees. I then laid my paws upon my head trying to cover myself from all view. Slowly the door cracked open I closed my eyes tightly believing if I could not see me then they shall not either. I heard the sounds of the equipment being moved and I just started to shudder as a hand wrapped around my arm pulling me out of the closet. I let out a loud scream as Gunther quickly covered my mouth. "Hush child!" He said sternly. I opened my eyes looking around to see a strange pure white female lapine standing infont of me and Gunther. Her eyes went wide as she looked upon me.

"I did not believe you when you told me last night. Where did she come from?" She asked her voice small and just as calm as the day before.

"That is of no concern. We need to get her out of the town before others find out." Gunther's voice was full of concern as his eyes darted around. He was looking for something but I knew not what. He placed me upon the floor letting his grip go of my arm. I looked to the female looking her over cautiously making sure to not get to close to her.

The female looked down to me and just gave a very sweet small smile. "Hello I am Trinity." She said slowly as if I may be dumb. I just tilted my head looking at her with distain. I guess she realized how she must of sounded as her face softened and just tilted her head. "I am sorry. I did not mean to speak in such a way. It is just that pink furrs are very rare and"

I cut her off stomping my foot to the ground. "CURSED" I yelled angry. I looked back to Gunther with an accusing stare. "You said no one was ever to know about me. Who is she?" Fear echoed through my voice.

"Calm child she is a friend. She helped my son escape." My face softened slightly as the fear slowly lifted as I looked back the female and then back to Gunther.

"Stop calling me Child, my name is Nicollett." Gunther just smiled softly and gave a little nod. The female let out a small grunt. I looked back to her and saw her face filled with anger. I jumped back bumping into the Gunther trying to get away from the lady.

"What is wrong Trinity" Gunther spoke with worry etched into his words.

"Nicollett. Who would dare name you that!!! That is no name for a pink furred!" Her words range with anger as she looked to Gunther.

"Why is that such a horrible name for the child?" Gunther looked utterly confused.

"That is the name of the great priestess. If anyone found out about her and then her name she would be killed instantly. They would think the curse is upon the priestess herself." I let out a small cry and wrapped my arms around Gunther's large right arm. I started to shiver in fright watching the lady.

"I do not want to die" I cried out.

Trinity must of noticed all the distress she put me for a second later her face changed back into the softness and kindness of before. "I am sorry Nic......." She could not force out my full name. Her face showed that of suspicion. "You are right we must get her out of her and quickly. We............." Her words were cut off as the shop door flew open with no warning as a Derek rushed in his eyes widening as he saw me. I drew back behind Gunther shaking violently watching the man. He rushed forward pulling me out from behind Gunther. I screamed in fear as Gunther grabbed onto me holding me close to him.

"Derek you let her go now!!" His voice range in a demanding tone.

"How dare you hide such a thing from us? You have brought the curse back. Where did she come from?!?" Derek's voice range with fear and anger at the same time as he tried to pull me away from Gunther once more. Gunther gave one last tug as I started to cry pulling me free of Derek. He rushed past him holding me in his arm and rushed out of the shop. He bursted into the street with no worry of anyone spotting me anymore. I looked around seeing all the lapines looking back at me with fear etched into their faces. It was then I knew that something bad was about to happen.

"Let me go!!" I screamed wiggling around in Gunthers arms trying to pull free. Gunther looked down at me sorrow filling his eyes as he let me drop to the ground. I fell landing upon my feet as the town people drew a circle around me and Derek forced his way into the middle.

"So you dare hide a pink furr" he asked. Gunther looked back to Derek about to reply as I cut him off.

"No I made him. It was all me. I told him I would tell him of his son if he did." Derek looked down at me with an angered look.

"Is that so Gunther?" Derek looked to Gunther expecting something else to flow out of his maw but all Gunther did was nod. Gunther was looking down to me and I just gave him a look that I would be fine. Derek grabbed Gunther by the arm forcing him out of the middle of the circle. Gunther and Trinity moved to the front of the circle next to each other just watching. The crowed started to scream words I did not understand as Derek moved closer. "Where are you from?!" He demanded.

"West" is all I replied. I knew not what layed west of the town but I was not about to tell him the truth. My body started to shake in fear as the town folk started to get more angry and upset as they continued to look upon me. Nothing lays to the west but the sea.

"You dare lie to me you foul cursed girl!" His words cut into me like hot knifes. Tears welled up in my eyes as I looked around at all the faced filled with anger.

"I'm not lying, I'm not" I cried out. Derek moved forward slapping me across the face with one fast hard movement of his right arm. I hit the ground from the impact my right paw moving up to my maw rubbing it sobbing.

Gunther moved forward. "Stop it. She has done nothing wrong!"

Derek looked to Gunther raising his hand. "One more interruption from you and you will be caste out of the village. Gunther moved back into the crowed his head down. All I saw were tears welling up in his eyes as he vanished in the crowed of lapines. The crowed slowly kept creeping forward making the circle smaller and smaller. I let out a scream and dashed into the crowd pushing past them. I felt paws from all angles grabbing trying to hold onto me. I bit tore at the paws with my teeth and claws. When I finally made it out of the crowd I ran toward the woods. They must have been 500 feet away.

I heard Derek's voice ring from the middle of the crowed. "Don't let her get away!" I started to run faster my heart pounding hard with in my chest. I looked back to see a large crowd chasing after me. I ran as fast as my legs would take me. It felt like hours before I reached the forest even though it had me less than a minute. I darted from tree to tree always looking behind me. The crowed seemed to be getting closer with every moment passing. I continued to dart from tree to tree trying to evade anyone that got close enough to grab onto me.

I heard Derek's voice ring through the forest. "Don't let her get away!" He screamed again. I looked back only for a moment as a large brown female lapine jumped in front of me and grabbed me by my throat. I kicked and screamed. "I got her!!" The female screamed out as I tore into her hand with my claws making her drop me. I started to run harder than ever my heart feeling like it was going to just burst out of my chest. I looked back once more seeing the crowed fall behind. I looked forward once again to see a cliff in front of me. I was not able to stop in time before I fell over the edge screaming in terror.

The fall felt like hours before I hit the water. I hit with such a force it felt like my body was being ripped apart. I managed to pull myself to the surface of the water before passing out. When I woke it was dark out and I was laying on a bed or rocks. I must have floated over; I do not know how I did not drown. I looked around before passing out once again.
