Chapter Seven: Mastersong, Part Three

“Stay back, I can handle the mantle. They won't attack." Ronan said as he stepped in front of the group, Colin didn't stop him so he assumed that he was doing good so far. He knelled in front of the hole of lava and looked into it. He peered into the lava and saw the mutants swimming through, they could have easily come through and killed them, but they were staying back they were waiting.

And then a black hand shot through and pulled against Ronan, screaming Ronan was pulled into the mantle as his headphone were pulled off his head. And as the headphones landed on the floor, Ronan was pushed back out of the mantle. With a few crashes and bangs around the base, that would sure give his werewolf side enough.

“Now then fools, you've held me back so long, now then its finally time to kill you all." Ronan said, his voice becoming deeper as he walked towards Colin. A dark glow engulfed his body and his eyes shined red.

“You idiots are now trapped, soon the werewolf in me will take over and you will not see the light of day, so then eventually his superpowers will fall to mine and how powerful do you believe a werewolf with the power to pass through walls will kill you all." Ronan said as he started to monologue his plan to the ground before them.

“No you can't win, Colin get the headphones and place them back on!" Colin turned Ronan was arguing on the inside, and trying to take back control of his body.

Colin bent his knee down and quickly grabbed the headphones from where he heard them land, he didn't need them to be destroyed and he needed to save Ronan before he was engulfed by the werewolf inside him. He walked forward hoping he could jump Ronan quickly enough and place the headphones on him.

“Don't you dare you fool, stay away from me with those things; any closer and I will strike you down where you stand." Ronan said as he made Colin back off. “Don't say anything, say anything and you die and don't breathe and make it easy for me, and jump into the mantle while you're at it." Ronan said joking as he smiled.

“No get away from me, I can hold him back and make sure he doesn't hurt you again." Ronan said from the inside of himself as he struggled with his own body and shook himself trying to gain back control of himself. The wolf struggled again but seemed to be back in the werewolves control.

“You fool you resist the power of a werewolf, but you can't even imagine the power of the dark side." Ronan said as he argued with himself.

“Then get out of my body." Ronan said as he argued as he seemingly switched sides as the normal Ronan took over but after speaking was replaced with Ronan switching sides.

“No you fool accept your faith, fear me I killed hundreds of Outsiders in the day." Ronan said as he gained back control of the body and stood still and smiled laughing as he stood still.

“Now let's look in your mind, oh Colin well then your parents will love to join the alpha pack, and whose this Dustin you seem to have him on your mind, a lot of guilt but a lot of attraction as well; how much guilt must you have." Ronan said as he scanned through his self-controlled mind.

Colin stood still holding on to the headphones as he hopped that an opportunity for him to save Ronan from the evils inside his mind and free him. Ronan stood still smiling as he pushed his leg back and ran forward, he passed Colin and ran at the wall, he jumped and as Colin expected Ronan to disappear inside the wall, he hit right off it and bounced off.

“Ok then, well as it seems I can't use my powers until my transformation is complete in five minutes, give it a second and no one will move until that point is passed." Ronan said smiling and waving his body as he knew he had control of the room. “Come on you two smile, it's not like it's the end of your lives, oh wait; still come on, still at least for you it will be fangs-giving."

“Oh come on it's, not like you two have need to be neutered." Ronan said smiling as if he actually thought that joke was funny. “Wow, tough crowd at least I don't have to leash you."

Suddenly they started to float, all of their bodies lifting off the ground.

“And we're moving!" Ronan yelled as the lights above him flashed and he was blind to the world. However, Colin was not he felt himself against the wall and knew he had the chance, he pushed himself off the wall and towards Ronan. The wolf screamed as they flew towards the glowing spot on the wall.

Colin transferred his momentum to Ronan and sent him into the mantle. He saw the wolf disappear into the void as the lights flickered on and they landed on the ground. If he was right and he was certain, Ronan for now couldn't use his powers and stay a werewolf at the same time.

Ronan screamed internally as he was sent into the mantle, he quickly knew he couldn't survive the mantle until he was transformed but knew that Ronan's powers could, and thus he settled back into the audio cortex, waiting for another opportunity to take back over.

Ronan's body turned invulnerable as he crossed his arms and turned back to himself. He walked forward and exited the mantle, he saw Colin run at him and just like that he was deafened again.

“Make sure those stay on do not let anyone touch them." Colin signed to him and he nodded, he placed his hand against his heart and kept himself invulnerable, it might have been a drain on his energy but it would keep the werewolf inside him at bay.

“Come one then; let's get you away from this mantle. It's dangerous we need to away from here and to the teleportation room as quickly as it would be possible." Colin said as he put his hand on Ronan's back and pushed him forward as they left the room.

Dustin grabbed water and pulled it with him as he jumped. He quickly splashed it up and he froze it. Suddenly the flood lights turned back on and he saw what had happened. As it had seemed their plan went off without a hitch, he had stuck the water tanks and as with the stations bad planning it quickly flooded and shorted out the electronics of the system.

Gravity had turned off and in the zero gee environment, they were able to jump to the stop of the ground and to the top of the station. The back-up generator would have activated as they landed at the top and with that Dustin froze them to ceiling.

Dustin took a breath, and looked down the mutants; and they were being washed away by the water. The lava had quickly cooled down and was frozen into a brittle crust and should have prevented them mutants from getting back into the large scale war path through the mantle.

“Ok, guys we have everyone." Dustin said as he took count of his friends and saw that Bright and Octavian had joined him in his frozen canopy. He looked around and slowly started to melt the canopy and extend it so that they could look for a way back into the station.

“Come on in here." Bright said taking his attention as he pointed out a hatch on the station ceiling. Bright grabbed it and pulled it open, Octavian climbed it squeezing out of the ice and pushing himself up into the tunnel. Bright went next and disappeared. “Come on Dustin."

The shark grabbed the edge and pulled himself up into the pipe, grabbing the edges and grabbed onto a later.

“Well then that resolved itself all nicely, Dustin close that hatch." Octavian said as he looked down and saw the open hundred foot fall below them. Grabbing the hatch with his water he closed it and pushed it up. He then put his foot through the hatch's spinner, with a click he heard it close. He let the water go and started to climb.

“This should take us right near the teleportation room, hopefully we can meet up with our friends there." Octavian said as he lead Bright and Dustin up the tunnel. Above him the shark's heard the sound of a hatch coming off and being discarded as Octavian shoved himself into a horizontal pipe. “Come on the way out is this way."

“Well that cliffhanger resolved itself in a neat fashion but the taste of victory will turn sour for you Outsiders." Mutant Pong said as he looked up and then to his mutant audience. As such they then rained on his parade and water splashed on his head.

“Find then search out, take out the power generator and find other ways to get into the base, get the scouts ready and prepare for a full force invasion." Mutant Pong yelled as the water drained out of the area and the mutants reacted and started to move, sometimes being dragged along by the water.

“I don't think the base is going to last must longer, you know from the collapsing panels, to the multiple holes into the mantle as well, as the fact that I can feel the base shifting under my step, I think we should probably put a bit more kick into out steps." Ping said finally talking as he reloaded his gun it was at that point that he heard something he didn't exactly want to hear.

“What's the problem, you aura just shot red, something bad is happening." Colin said looking around, he sounded alarm and Ronan quickly picked up a piece of metal as he reacted to that.

“I'm out of ammo, if we meet any mutants we can't fire on them, god where is Octavian's group?" Ping said as he tried to hear them, a valiant plan but one that wouldn't work in the long run, so instead he looked around and tried to see if they would magically appear.

“Ok, that's bad Ronan what do we have?" Colin asked as he turned his head and looked at the wolf.

“We have a pointy stick." Ronan said holding it up and looking at the melted and charred ends.

“Can I have a pointy stick?" Colin asked as he looked around trying to see any life forces of the mutants, they were very dull but he was starting to get better at seeing them. However, he saw none and thus assumed that they were in the meantime safe.

“Make you own." Ronan said walking forward as he banged it against the wall, possibly making enough noise that Octavian and Dustin could react and find them. Still he was disappointed not to get back a reply.

“Do we have any idea where they could possibly be?" Ping asked as he turned a corner, looking around and feeling safe. He walked around and kept his gun forward, he didn't know if mutants felt fear but if they did, his gun would bring that out.

“I think I saw them in the cupola, yeah they were in the basin below this place and how the hell did they get down there, god it's like I don't even think half of the time." Ronan said sharing the information he gathered before and suddenly realizing that pieces of information that was missing with his.

“They must have fallen down, but as it seems the gravity malfunction the one that saved you; they might have used that in order to jump into a service hatch on the base." Ping suddenly said realizing what had transpired from the cliffhanger. He looked around and remembered the maps of the hatch system.

“Ok, if they took the hatch route out of the basin, then they should be somewhere around here." Ping said as he turned off the path they were following and instead headed down an auxiliary hallway. He followed the path of flickering lights and found him and his group in a service room, mops and buckets rounding the room with a large pipe circumventing the room and acting as the center feature.

“Ok then, there's a hatch here; they can get out through here." Colin said as he below him, he smiled seeing three signs of life in the tunnels below. He leaned against the pipe and started to knock, his smile only grew as he saw them react to the sound of his knocking.

“Hey someone knows we're here, they can open up a hatch for us!" Octavian said relived as he crawled forward a bit and pulled himself into a vertical pipe. Bright followed suit, pulling himself up as Dustin prepared himself for a mutant trap, he knew there was a large possibility that the mutants were preparing for them and they had just planted a bait.

“Guys, it us; we're here; we're queer and we are more than smiling to have you back." Ronan said with a bit of happiness sounding in his voice, Dustin took a breath of relief as he realized that he had finally been able to find themselves and connect back with the other group.

He saw Octavian and Bright pull themselves out of the pipe and he smiled as he was pulled into the tight service room, hugs were spread around. And then he looked at Ronan who smiled back at him, at least it seemed that Ronan had made some attempt to forgive himself.

Ronan's heart skipped a beat as he finally saw Dustin again, he was confused thought, was this for Riptide or for Dustin; and then he realized that he had to combine them and see them as one. He took a breath of air and smiled at Dustin waving at the shark.

Ronan felt better as the shark smiled back and waved as well, at least it seemed that there was no need to be antagonistic to Dustin any more. He now could believe that Dustin could handle himself, he saw Dustin fight as Riptide and could now say he believed Dustin was a true shark.

“Ok, now then we need to find a wave to combat the mutants, they seem to absorb water so whatever I have here and that this sink will generate is all we have." Dustin said as he walked over to the sink, placing his bottles underneath the spout and turning the spicket. It felt weird as the water was generated right under the sink, and pumped out of the sink. Filling both up to the top he looked at his friends and realized that they were out of ammo as well.

“Ok, what else do we have?" Dustin asked looking at the group and realized that he was the only offensive super in front of him. If anything he kind of figured that Ronan couldn't use his powers and Colin would let him know if anyone approached.

“Well as it seems we have two pointy sticks." Bright said raising his left hand and sharping it into a liquid metal blade and holding up Ronan's charred piece of metal as well. Dustin smiling knowing that on some days they couldn't even use his powers, so he was in a better place then before.

“Ok, two pointy sticks; well…" Dustin suddenly was knocked against the wall, the entire base shifting around him. He grabbed the wall and held himself up as he finally realized that the poorly constructed base started to shift. “Well I don't think we'll have much time to get to the teleportation room."

Dustin quickly opened the door and outside the mantle was starting to melt through the walls and the base was finally collapsing. Dustin and the group behind him started to wobble out of the base and towards where ever it wasn't shaking.

“Who's the fool?" Colin asked over the shaking as he held onto Ronan's hand and he noticed the stranger's life energy.

“Colin this is Bright, Bright this is Colin introduce yourselves." Octavian said introducing the pair, Colin saw Bright's aura and it was strange, full of regret and angst but optimistic and hopeful.

“Hello Mr. Bright, it's a pleasure to meet you, but you can call me the only strange blind lizard in New York." Colin said talking as they ran down the hallway and towards somewhere hopefully more stable. Dustin looked worried and Colin could sense it with in him.

“Why hello Mr. Colin, I have heard quite a lot about you from my case file on Earth; so how does my aura look." Bright said as he impressed Colin with his information, knowing it without being told. Colin smiled knowing that he had found a friend in the Kagen known as Bright.

“Ok then, we need to get to the teleportation room and it is blocked." Dustin said as the tunnel before them collapsed, and they were all trapped to the section of the base. They stood still and looked at each other as they realized that everything they had fought for was now beyond a collapsed roof.

“Well then we have nothing to fight for any more, we should just sit here and die." Ping said as he saw their chance for escape be destroyed right in front of him. Ping sat down and looked at the wall, he lost Pong but perhaps it would be better and he could join back with Pong.

“Maybe he is right, maybe there is a mission that is too big for the Outsiders, I'm not a true shark." Dustin said as he sat down next to Pong, accepting his fate as well; he stood still as Colin still signed to Ronan.

“Ok, then well Dustin you're not going to sit down their; you're going to led us to somewhere safe." Ronan said slurring his words as he went off of Dustin's look and tried to encourage him and get them back on the path to victory. “There is always a second way out, we could use the pipes or we could just drill to the teleportation room, we have superpowers and we can use them however the hell we want them."

“I think's he right, I can form metallic blades, screw logic!" Bright said as he punctured the wall with his hand and cut into it. He smiled and looked in at the wiring he cut.

“We don't need to follow logic, we don't need to follow gravity, we don't need to fight mutants we can over load the teleporter and destroy this base and trap the mutants while we're at it!" Dustin said pumping his fist up in the air as he tried to be encouraging.

“Some of us have good superpowers, some of us support others and others a civilians, but together we are Outsiders and together we can brake every single piece of physics thrown at us!" Dustin said as he picked himself and Ping off the ground and looked at the group of friends supporting him.

“Who are we!" Dustin yelled pumping his fist up into the air as he walked forward and his friends started to follow him.

“We are the Outsiders!" Dustin's group said as they walked forward and pumped their fist in the air and started to walk towards their next goal.

“And what do we do to physics!"

“We fuck with it." His group said their energy motivated.

“And who do we answer to!"

“No one!"

“Now then… wow…" Suddenly Dustin was stopped in his tracks he looked forward and before him, the dull grayscale walls of the base disappeared and instead pulled back. Green colored the walls and grass laid against the floor, a small gust of wind blowing over it.

Many trees of all kinds; were growing out of the ground and slowing wresting in the wind that blew through the field. Dustin stood still as the Outsiders gathered behind him and stood in awe at the nature that grew.

“This is amazing, an oxygen factory." Bright said as he walked forward and touched the grass. He laughed at it and smiled looking at it. He jumped and fell into the grass rolling around the field and laughing with compassion. “I haven't felt the grass on my body for so long, only dark and cold metal, I missed it so much."

Looking at Bright's joy, Dustin walked forward waving his hand against the living grass. He too rolled in it and while his time away from it was shorter than Bright; he still missed it as much and enjoyed rolling around in it and enjoyed the smell of the grass as it produced the oxygen that flowed through the base.

“Can we stay here forever, this place is so nice." Colin said as he felt the grass and smelt the fresh foot that was growing on the trees. He smiled as he felt the auras off the trees, they seemed so happy and so nice. He sat down under the shade of one and looked at his friends as look out.

“I think we can, have a picnic every day and enjoy the freshest air that is produced on this planet." Dustin said as he sat up and got on his knees. He looked around and everyone seemed happy in the field of oxygen.

“And here we are Ping, it's so good to see you, I always knew that you would send me as your lamb." And with that their happiness ended, all of them stood up as mutants surrounded them from each entrance and leading them was Mutant Pong.

“Don't you dare say that, you went because you believed you could handle it and didn't want to see me die a horrible death, I only wish I could have properly said goodbye to you." Ping said as he raised his weapon and pointed it at the black and gooey version of his friend.

“You think that frightens me, we know the only threat to us is posed by the sharks and we have methods of dealing with them." Mutant Pong said as he nearly ignored Ping's admission and instead focused on frightening the group.

“So what you've surrounded us and we don't have many superpowers that work against you and we're surrounded by at least say a thousand mutants but I'd say for what happened, the odds are pretty good." Dustin started to brag as he pressurized his water and prepared to strike.

“Oh sorry, I don't like the look on your face, put the water away or I'll be forced to, oh I'll show you." Mutant Pong said as he threw his arms forward and quickly Ping was engulfed in the black goo, just as before. “Now Ping, it's time to join back together."

“No!" Octavian said as he ran forward and but Ping was pulled away from him and he was absorbed into Mutant Pong. Mutant Pong smiled as another head joined him on his head and he stood up with a full humanoid body. Both heads smiled as they walked towards the group.

“Now then you five have some serious problems if you want to escape. You had a chance, to accept our offer but now as it seems we have some previous grievances and they will not be passed over. So if you'd like to escape, then you will really have to beg for it." Mutant Ping-Pong said their heads and mouths moving in sync as they attempted to commutate with the party.

“We have to do something we can't just stand here and let him do this; if they find the teleporter room then we will have lost." Colin said as he tried to motivate the team again, but the five of them looked down on the grassy fields and knew they was nothing that they could do to the mutants.

“Well actually let's see how you like this." Dustin quickly bursted the water of their containers and blasted them towards one side of the room. With the sound of an electrical panel frying, suddenly the sprinklers in the room started to spray. Dusting added to it in his own way, pushing the water even further onto the mutants.

“Oh, you sneaky boy but I wonder how long you can keep that system running; I don't know how long you have until this entire system shuts down." Mutant Ping-Pong said as their body was dissolved by the blades of water being propelled through him. He smiled and became a black puddle on the ground.

As most of the mutants turned into the same gush as well, Dustin smiled at his friends and they smiled back knowing that they had saved themselves from certain destruction and together they had done it as well. Everyone started to high-five and cheer in joyous celebration.

And then the lights started to flicker…

“No, no, don't you do that to me; no stay back!" Dustin said seeming at the lights as they started to flicker more and more, the supply of water he was getting started to start and stop as the power was interrupted. And as the lights above the exploded they were sent into darkness.

Two floodlights behind them activated, probably on their own system to keep the oxygen levels constant. Dustin looked but the sprinklers stopped spraying and they were out of water. The mutants took this opportunity, without their puppet head, they moved forward as the killing machines they were.

Bright moved to the front of the group and Dustin tried to use the water that surely must have been forced onto the group. But they all started to move back as the mutants made their way forward, except for Ronan, Ronan stood still.

The mutants, they didn't seem to care for Ronan; they could see him as they actively moved around him, but they didn't care to absorb him instead they moved for the other four. Ronan was separated, accidentally pushed off into the mutant swarm.

“Ronan you have to save us." Colin signed to him and Dustin nodded. He had a choice to make, and either way his headphones were coming off. He could attempt to make his way into the now massive block of mutant matter and hope to find a way to the teleportation room, a method where in the swarms of mutants, surely one would knock his headphones off.

Or perhaps he could resist control, perhaps there was a way, that in the spilt second before he turned into a werewolf, he made his brain cells all invulnerable and thus unable to change, perhaps werewolves were connected on a mental level which was how they took over new members.

So he stood still, he had a choice to make; he could hope that his hypothesis was correct and he could properly act when he transformed, he be an Outsider Werewolf, a combination never seen before. He still throw off his werewolf form and forget about it as well.

Yet it still all depended that he wouldn't be tempted, could he handle the power and superiority of his werewolf form and as he thought, he realized something. That was what Moonraker thought, he realized that Moonraker put himself above everyone else firstly because he was a dick and secondly because he believed it himself.

And with that he knew that he needed to keep control and not let his ego get ahead of him and stop putting such stupid ideas in to Dustin's head. So conceding that there was a yard or so of mutants between him and his friend, he grabbed his headphones and pulled them off.

Ronann felt the pathweb attempt to connect to him, the werewolves knowing they could take over his body and he said no to that. He blocked them and turned his brain invulnerable, their signal not able to connect with his own brain. He stood up and realized he was in a sort of harmony.

He took a breath in and felt the transformation starting. He smiled at Dustin and hoped control over his body would remain rightfully his as his back started to arch back. Large spikes started to grow out of his spin sharping out and ripping out of his skin, and with that Ronan smiled as he realized this would be the pain he deserved.

His already wolf-like face; only extended out and widened as his teeth became sharper and deadlier; his arms became muscular and large as a large spike grew out of his elbow, and with the arching he started to hunch over. His knees were compressed down into a position of being bent, as they grew larger and his feet grew out into pads.

His hands grew out into ones designed for running on all fours, still having the all-important opposable thumb but his fingers shorting and his hands widening so that while he could still grip, with a certain amount of failure, he could apply more force through wider surface area.

And his throat changed, his chest inflated becoming bigger to hold more air; his vocal cords changing so that he could howl as with his ancestors and his nose widening to accept more scents. A gland developed in his nose, giving him even further enhanced smelling. His eyes were alerted letting him seeing further and with more contrast.

His ears were larger and could here further and accept werewolf signals. His touch was enhanced and had there been food down in the bunker, he could say that his taste was increased as well. He howled out letting the mutants know who to fear and with one run into the wall, he disappeared into the wall.

“Ok then, so anyone feeling any confidence that this is going to work." Colin said as he turned his head tracking the brief signals of life that came off of Ronan as he quickly traversed through the base, going multiple ways and in may speeds as he seemingly searched the other side of the base.

“I'm at a one hundred seventeen out of one hundred forty-six chance right now, anyone feeling a twelve out of fifteen?" Bright said nervously as he kept stabbing mutants through their head. He started to pant and knew that he couldn't keep the mutants back for much longer. Still he striked down the mutants and kept going, knowing he needed to protect the group behind him.

Ronan howled out as he passed through the walls of the base, he smiled knowing that he was going to save his friends. He jumped off another wall and nearly flew through multiple walls as he tried to track down the location of the teleportation room.

Suddenly when he found a white room with a large central computer, he stopped himself and felt in control of himself. Ronan didn't feel like he was subservient to the werewolves, he felt like he was doing the best he could do to save his friends; which was a great feeling.

He turned back into a human with a brief blast of energy from his body and stared at the control panel. He scanned the console and found the automatic control button, pressing it he reversed the controls so that his friends were sent back, yet he saw he wasn't included.

He smiled knowing that he was going to save his friends and looked up as he pressed the button. He knew what was going to happen; he would overload the back-up generator and collapse the base and the teleportation room, and hopefully most of the mutants.

Dustin suddenly landed against the hard surface of the Yankee's Statium with a hard thud. Looking in front of him, he saw the werewolf that infected Ronan was still in the forcefield, sleeping. Looking up the floodlights were already activated and the night sky shined above them.

Next to him Octavian, Bright and Colin had landed next to him. Yet as he looked over, he didn't see Ronan near them. He started to worry, his heart skipped a beat; he couldn't have sacrificed himself, they hadn't made up yet. No he was wrong, they were all in their positions from before, Ronan simply must have been relative to the teleporter room.

“No he's not, the teleporter only works within an area of thirty yards, he still down there and by now the base is collapsing and he might not make it." Octavian said with a frown on his face, “He must have known this, he accepted his fate."

“I'm sorry are you forgetting someone."

They all turned to the left, and Ronan seemingly raised out of the Earth and out of the ground. Dustin stood flabbergasted and started to clap, followed by the rest of them.

“It's like you guys forget I can pass my body through objects, come on, now then after we deal with this werewolf, how about we go get some authentic Chinese food and on the way back we can make fun of Mutant Ping-Pong, too soon." Ronan said smiling as he and Dustin smiled back at each other.

“So then I'll be off and for now, I think it will be worth it to just forget about each other and good luck, I see the way he looks at you." Octavian said to Dustin, both of them looking at Ronan as they said their goodbyes.

“Yeah see you later as well, it was good working with you, bye." Dustin said as he turned his attention off Octavian and instead towards Ronan, walking forward he realized that perhaps they should just let everything go and work it out.

“So then, let's start over; my name is Dustin Smith, I am Riptide, controller of water and King of Sharks, what's your name?"

“Everyone clap, Riptide the hero of New York has finally vanquished the werewolf of Yankee's Statium after twelve hours!" Sally Sparrow said, clapping as exhaustion finally returned to her and she nearly fell over. Octavian was passing a store lined window, he got away from the Statium and quick and was returning to his last known address from five years ago.

Octavian laughed and he wondered if his family would still be at his home, and thus he turned into the alley way and on the ground saw a shining little gem. It was attached to a necklace and as he picked it up, he thought of it

“So then if you're going to join the Outsiders, we can't call you Bright, it's a little obvious, so instead." Colin said as he scanned his finger over the brail computer of his day, it was a slower but the ability to search the internet was a little better than doing nothing. “Elias, Elias Porter, the random name generator my ass, well then, welcome to the team Elias, here's your paperwork.
