Fenris' Inferno Chapter 4.5

Author's note: I know it's been a long time coming, but I've finally gotten back into the swing of writing. This serves as an intermediate between 4 and 5 and a warm-up to get my head back into the Divine Comedy series. So, without further procrastination, I present the completely original, copyrighted, all characters belonging to their creator (Fenris Lupin), CHAPTER 4.5 of INFERNO:

Falling

Light yet heavy, calm yet worried, swift yet slow. Falling.

Air rushes pass with barely a whisper, yet he could feel the butterflies in him trying to take flight. His mind raced as if it was trapped in gelatin, slow to take in what was happening; but did he want to know what was happening? He was calm, he was serene, this felling was not the one usually filled with fear of reaching the bottom, but more of enjoying the moment. Right now Adrian has no fears, no worries, in his mind all was well.

"Maybe this is just another dream," he thought. "Yes, that's it. I'm still in my dorm, waiting to pledge."

".....The pledge," a voice echoed through his head, gruff and distant.

"Yes.....the pledge," the boy did not even take alarm that there was another voice in his seemingly solitary solitude. Instead, he continued to drift through the rushing darkness of "his" mind, focusing on the here and the now, the gentle rushing of air around him, despite the now growing feeling of something forgotten, something buried behind the calm night that enveloped him.

"The....pledge...," echoed his thoughts, growing steadily louder with each instance, more intense with each thought, until his mind rung with nothing but those words. Once whispers are now shouts, blaring his head as loud as a siren till he realizes it.

"I'm not sleeping..."

*Thud*

Just like that, his current world was shattered, replaced with a harsher reality that brings nothing but worry and questions. Questions with no answer. As quickly as this reality returns it is taken away, plunging him into, not the calm, cool, serene darkness of before, but one of cold, heavy fear. Left broken and bare as a newborn in an unfamiliar world.
