Power of Light

Chapter 1: The Beginning

My name is Foxara Kitsuno. I was born and raised in the fox kingdom, Foxaria. I'ts a simple kingdom surrounded by a forest. My family serve the king, Richard, as knights, and have done so for many generations. I myself use a sword, but I also train with magic, and I'm quite good with it. Other than that, we're just a simple family of red foxes, which consists of mainly me and my parents, Foxaris and Eleina.

Foxaria, also known as the Fox Tribe, isn't the strongest of the kingdoms. We're often looked down upon, and taken advantage of, by the other tribes. At the age of 10, when I became an adult, I set out to change all of that.

I was sick of my poeple being picked on and even robbed and beaten, especially by the Wolfanians, who were the worst. My friends and my parents tried to stop me, saying it was something we just had to live with, but I had made up my mind. I was determined to prove them wrong. I already spent a lot of time training for this, so I was quite strong, especially for a fox, and I planned on becoming even stronger through my journeys. So I bid farewell to my friends and family, and set out on my journey.

I had been traveling for a few days, training with my sword and magic, becoming stronger as I did so, and hunting to keep myself fed, mostly deer and rabbits, when I came upon the fox village, Vixala. Vixala is a little village about a few miles east of Foxaria. It contains an inn for travelers, and a potion shop, said to be the best around,as well as a few residences. I often travelled here with my parents, for they were friends with the elder, Mark Foxala. He had a daughter with whom I was close friends with, Vixena. I also had some other friends here, too. I went straight to the elder's house, hoping to see them. Mark was there, and he welcomed me into his house, having received word that I started my journey.

I looked for Vixena, but couldn't find her. "Are you looking for Vixena? She's at the shop making potions. She should almost be done, but you can go there if you wish." I went there, and found her in the basement. She welcomed me with open arms and a kiss, for we had started to become more than just friends in the last couple months. "Oh, Foxara, I'm so glad to see you. Are you still going to take me with you like you promised?" "Of, course, that's why I'm here. Lets go see your father and get your stuff." I had promised her that when I started my journey, I'd take her with me. Her father objected at first, but she persuaded him, noting that she was an adult now.

We went to her house, grabbed her stuff, including ingredients for making potions. We then went to tell her father good-bye. "Good-bye father, we're leaving now." "Oh, my darling Vixena, please take care, and be careful. Foxara, please keep her safe." "Yes, sir. I swear I will protect her and let no harm befall her." And with that, we took off, not knowing what awaited us.

The Kingdom of Cats, Felinia

It is the middle of July, a month after Foxara and Vixena began their journey. Vixena was cooking some meat Foxara had gotten from a hunt, earlier, and Foxara was training with his sword and magic. It was paying off, he was a lot stronger than when they left Vixala. They were on their way to the Kitsune Village to receive guidance. The kitsunes are the wisest, oldest, and most mystical of the Fox Tribe, even though they live in Felinian territory.

The Kingdom of Felinia, as it's name implies, is the Cat Tribe. They are well known for their powerful mages, as well as their somewhat wild nature, though some weren't as wild as others. Foxara and Vixena decided to stop by there on their way to the Kitsune Village. He also hoped to get some magic training while there.

"Foxara, dinner's ready!" Vixena called out. "Alright, I'm coming!" Foxara sheathed his sword and ran to where Vixena was. "Mmmm, smells good. You sure are a good cook," to which Vixena replied, "Thanks, you do know how to catch good prey, and that helps a lot." Foxara had caught a couple wild rabbits, which Vixena cooked with some of the fruit that grew from the local trees. They enjoyed their meal, and then got ready for sleep. "We should be at Felinia in a couple days if we keep traveling," Foxara said smiling to Vixena. "Yeah, I can't wait to see it. Maybe I could learn a few attack spells with you," Vixena replied, smiling back.

A couple days later, they arrived in Felinia. Upon entering, they were "greeted" by a three female cats, all about their age. "Hey, Elissa, look, a couple foxes," one of them said, acting stuck-up. "Yeah, Elizabeth, what do you think THEY want, entering the city so boldly. What do you think, Katrina?" to which she replied, wryly, "Hmph, I say we go put them in their place. Let's see how good they are with magic." Foxara and Vixena had heard all of this. "What should we do, Foxara? They're coming over here." "Don't worry, I'll take care of it," Foxara replied, giving a look of reassurance.

Just as the three cats got to the two foxes, another cat appeared, looking to be in her late twenties. "Stop it you three. Don't you dare attack them," to which Elizabeth replied, "But Anne, look at how they just march right into the city!" Anne just gave them a cold look, to which the three kept their mouths shut, knowing it to be a bad idea to get Anne mad. "You should be welcoming travelers in our city, not trying to start fights! I want all three of you to clean the training center, and have it done by tomorrow morning. AND I WANT IT SHINING, UNDERSTAND?" The three just nodded their heads and left, grumbling.

"I apologize for that, those three can be quite rude. Well, anyway you two must be Foxara and Vixena," to which they nodded in response. "The king has been expecting you, and would like to meet you. Please, this way." Anne lead them to the castle. Upon arriving they were greeted by the guards. "Welcome to Felinia Castle. The maids will lead you to the guest chamber, where you can wash and get prepared to meet the king. Please remember to show respect while in his presence." "Ok, the maids can lead you from here, as I have a magic class to teach. Take care." And with that, Anne disappeared using a teleportation spell.

Just as they entered the castle, they were greeted by a white Felinian maid. "The guest chamber is right over here, please follow me." While following the maid, they looked aroung at the casle's interior. The whole castle was made of white marble. Chandeliers made out of pure gold hung from the ceiling, and the walls were decorated with pictures of the Royal Family, with a bouquet of flowers and a little catnip on a marble stand under each one. Finally, they arrived at the guest room. "Right in here. We have already prepared some clothes for you to wear. They are yours to keep as honored guests of his majesty. A guard will be waiting right outside, so after you have prepared, let him know, and he will escort you to the Throne Room. Please do not take too long." Foxara replied, "Thank you, we will be sure not to keep the king waiting," and entered the room.

"Wow, this is amazing, I can't believe we are going to meet King Douglas!" Vixena said, a bit of glee in her voice. Foxara replied, "I know, I definitely wasn't expecting this. Maybe it's a sign of things to come. Well, anyway we better get cleaned up and get dressed. We don't want to keep him waiting." A bath was already prepared for them, so they got in and washed themselves off, then got dressed and notified the guard that they were ready. "Alright, please follow me."

They went back down the hallway and then down the corridor opposite the castle entrance until they arrived at a set of double doors, where they waited at until they were announced by the guard to the king. "Your majesty, Foxara Kitsuno and Vixena Foxala have arrived." "Let them in," the king replied. The two walked down before him and gave the customary Foxarian bow while greeting him. "I am Foxara Kitsuno and this is my companion, Vixena Foxala. I thank you for welcoming us into your presence."

"Ah, yes, I had hoped to see you. I have heard of your journey, and wish to aid you in any way I can. I, too, have grown weary of the way your people have been treated." This was pleasing to the foxes ears, it was said King douglas was a kind and just ruler, but also strict when it was needed. He was also sympathetic to the plight of others, and this was comfirming was they had heard.

"First off, let me offer this from my treasury. And don't try to decline it, either, I won't take no for an answer," to which Foxara replied, "Th-thank you, your majesty," as both of them were each handed a few large wallets containing 10,000 gold pieces for each of them, totalling 20,000. "Is there anything else that you desire? Speak it, and I shall make it happen to the best of my powers as king."

Foxara replied, "All we wish is to train at the magic school. I myself already know magic and hope to learn some new spells, while Vixena wishes to begin learning. She is already accomplished as a potion maker, and hopes to learn something new." "Very well. I shall send word immediately to the school that you will be joining. Everything should be ready for you to begin tomorrow morning. Until then, you may tour the castle, or you can look around town. There are many shops that you may find interesting. Also, you may make use of the guest chamber during your stay here. If you ever need me, tell one of guards, and I will see you if I'm not busy." They thanked King Douglas and were escorted out of the throne room.

"Well, what would you like to do?" Foxara asked, to which Vixena replied, "Let's go into town." "Alright, but let's not spend too much, though. We may need the money later for supplies." The two headed towards the center of town, where all of the shops were. Many were stalls along the sides of the street, while some were inside buildings. By now, word had gotten around that they were here, and a lot of shop owners were trying to sell to them, calling them by name. The two had split up, deciding to meet at the castle in the evening.

Foxara was browsing a jewelry shop, looking for something to give Vixena. He was looking over a gold necklace with an emerald hanging down fron it. "Ah, yes, that is a fine necklace you have picked." Foxara replied, "Yes it is, at least it would be if it wasn't fake", looking the shopkeeper in the eyes with a smirk on his face. "What do you mean, my fine man?" The shopkeeper said nervously, realizing he had been caught. That's one more talent Foxara had, which he had honed greatly.

"Well, the 'gold' is just metal with some cheap coating. See, I'm rubbing it off just by holding it. And the "emerald" is just glass. I think I'll go to the other jewelry store the people here have told me about." With that, he gave the necklace back and left, the shopkeeper having a dumbfounded look on his face. "Darn, how could a kid know so much about jewelry?" the shopkeeper thought to himself.

Foxara went to the other jewelry shop just down the road and was looking over the selection, which was surprisingly similiar to the other shop's, except this was all real, until he a necklace that looked the same as the fake one before. "Ah yes, that is a very fine necklace, made by the best Felinian goldsmiths." This shopkeeper had a more sincere tone in his voice, too. "How much?" Foxara asked, wanting to by it. "I'll sell it for 500 gold pieces." Foxara was satisfied with the price, so he bought it, along with something else that caught his eye that costed 1,000 gold pieces, but decided the price was worth it, silently thanking Douglas for the money.

It was getting late now, so he hurried over to the palace. Vixena arrived at the same time he did. "So, did you get anything?" Vixena asked as Foxara walked up to her. "I did, in fact", as he took out the necklace and put it around her neck, getting a very happy look from the young vixen. "Oh, Foxara, it's beautiful! Thank you so much!" she exclaimed, giving Foxara a big hug which he happily returned, giving the side of her muzzle a lick.

"Well, we better get inside so we can eat dinner and get some rest for tomorrow." Foxara said, letting go of the embrace and taking her hand into his to lead the happy vixen into the castle, them looking into each others eyes lovingly. They ate dinner with none other than the king himself, which was a very pleasant surprise that they enjoyed thoroughly, and went to bed together, falling asleep in each others embrace.
