Eyes Open
#3 of Poetry
Something I wrote during a bout of insomnia.
Eyes Open
We are born, new to the world, without a care to think of.
Very soon, we open our eyes and gaze upon the world around us.
We grow , learning, failing, trying, crying, hurting.
We age, celebrate the highs and weep during the lows.
We fall in love, we fall out of love
We might at one point find "the one" and never let them go
We make a life, with a house, a car, pets, and maybe children
We go through the highs and lows again
The sleepless nights, the endless days
The jobs, the college, and maybe a career, and maybe retire
Live our lives with that "one"person until
They leave us, in one way or another
We hurt, we cry, we try to move on, sometimes unsuccessfully
But we never close our eyes till it all ends
The problem is that sometimes, we never really open our eyes and see what is going on around us. We sometimes miss the things that are most important to us. It could be that one opportunity for success, the one time to spend with family we might not see for several years, or even "the one". We must always keep our eyes open and to listen to the cues that come our way. Because if we miss them, we will never get our chance again. And then, we close our eyes for good.
