Old Enemies
#2 of Kheldian Tales
A Kheld meets another.
Kheldians are known for their long memories -- Dvek Ordson "Kheldian Observations"
I decided against the trip back to earth, the knowledge that other Kheldians survived made me wonder if my one time mate Mistwind a Peacebringer of beauty and good repute had survived, Or did she Volunteer...
Shaking off this revere I decided instead to seek out other Kheldians, senses stretched out for several light years I sniffed the ether and hoped for a scent I recognized. There! a faint odor of Kheldian, oddly tainted but... I headed in that direction. The scent was about 231 light years from my present point.
I stretched to a thin line of subjective Kheldian energy, choosing the point in space I wanted and in a flash, was there. The smell of Kheldian was everywhere, not many Khelds but one. It was not Mistwind and my heart sank but not by much, another Kheld like me! But different, now I discovered why the scent was so odd, she was female and spread across several parsecs of space.
"Hello, are you there?"
"Certainly, I smelled you the moment you arrived"
"Why are you spread out like this?"
"I have trouble keeping my self contained, this current state is comforting and easy to maintain."
"Can I assist you?"
"Join your energy to mine and I think I can pull myself together..."
This was to much like reproduction and I paused.
"What is wrong? am I that bad? do not worry, its not my time, though I would not mind a mating, it has been many decades since I had one."
"Very well... ready?"
"Proceed."
I focused on her pattern and altered just a bit of myself to match and at once was part of her. I felt her and joined, helped her coalesce into a recognizable Kheldian Warshade.
"You are to kind and you may let go now, he-he..."
I quickly reformed into all me and shook off the pleasure, she saw.
"Was it so bad? You felt wonderful , are you OK?"
"Yes yes I'm fine, does this happen often?"
"Once every few years it gets to hard to hold my form and I let myself go, but this is the first time someone has helped me reform. Thank you."
"Your welcome."
"Oh, so formal, what is the occasion?"
"How about finding out I am not the Last Kheldian."
"Oh my! I am sorry I will be more serious, but the last?"
So I told her about my encounter with a master, and the truth I had been told."
"Yes I know of this, sadly my energy pattern was to unstable and I had to watch as my brethren volunteered, It was not easy."
"To not be able to join?"
"No, to feel them die, their energy disbursed and released as oxidized particles of dark matter."
Something I did not think of, she had to watch them sacrifice themselves, feel it happen.
"I am so so sorry, I wish I could help heal your pain."
"Very heroic of you, um... what identity are you?"
" I am just Krll Warshade, and you?"
"After that assist its the least I can do, my name is Dark Diamond."
"A pleasure to know you."
" A pleasure it was to, heh."
"Um yeah, so..." subject change "where are you based?"
"See that small asteroid about 3 parsecs towards the globular cluster? That's home."
We headed there side by side, she was a handsome Warshade and why not mate. Its not like we Kheldians are solids, our morals are beyond the understandings of solids. Even you reading this must realize that.
"This master mentioned these Sledecci, we did not know their name just that they were the enemy and we could help defeat them."
"Do you know how many Khelds remain?"
"No, we are spread out all over this universe, no one would know how many remain, except..."
"Except?"
"Except these Sledecci, if they still exist then they would know, they know what defeated them, they would have won if we hadn't volunteered for fuel."
Arriving at her asteroid I was amazed to see this vehicle was a solid Crystal of Diamond.
"Very impressive, where did you find it?"
"In orbit around a binary star, it was once a planet now turned to a Diamond, a remainder of battles lost."
"These battles, you saw them?"
"Some, yes always bad for somebody, always seemed equal in power and destruction as well. Never saw friend or foe, just blinding energy and death."
"May I try bonding with your home?" The idea of joining a diamond like this was exciting.
"Yes you may, I expected it as well.
The moment I bonded, energy caused me pain, I gasped and saw energy blasts damaging the Diamond, I was thrown away and watched a small ship attack it.
"This does not seem like a Sledecci attack, its weaker by far."
Rikti attack from a small remaining dropship. Sensing the source of the attack I explain, "these are not Sledecci these are old enemies, the Rikti."
"Never heard of them."
"Many haven't, they attacked the Earth in this universe and were held in its power. They attacked Paragon Island and the Rogue Isle's causing multiform damage and Assaults. This sealed their fates, they were on Earth when the masters and the others (the Sledecci) met in battle. The Earth's moon was vaporized and Earth laid in ruins. Man and Rikti, Hero and Villain, all suffered. "
As another energy bolt caused damage, I decided to act. I choose to Dwarf Form, this Rhino type beast was both a Melee and Ranged Type best suited for this. I lept onto the dropship and proceeded to punch a hole in it, energy fist after energy fist I beat the ship down, 5 Rikti teteported to the crystal as the ship exploded in green flames. Each Rikti was picked off and blasted into atoms as each appeared. Over that fast, just a few pieces of Rikti ship remained to bounce harmlessly off the asteroid.
"These Rikti do not seem so dangerous."
"With you at my side, I see why"
"Is that a compliment?
"Yes...!"
I noticed a New smell... KHELD! Another one located, I said my goodby's, and headed in the direction of a Cluster of Stars."
A feint energy whisper from Dark, "we'll meet again."
"Yes..."
Having her energy pattern and home location I could find her anytime.
I now knew of another Kheld, Dark Diamond. I headed towards the energy I sensed, soon to meet yet a third.
As I stretched into Hyperspace a sense of being watched pervaded, I paused just a second and missed my target...!"
A head shaped as a giant Block of Granite turned away from the view plate, a low moan issued fourth, mirth as one yet unmet could exude.
