Chapter 1

He ran, the thrill of the chase engulfing every crevice of his mind, the pack not far behind. He could hear their pants as they ran with him, chasing his next meal through the forests of Siberia. This was the life, he thought to himself as he leaped and took a huge chunk of bloody flesh from the now screaming deer, his packmates joined in and soon enough the deer was dead and the wolves were full. He liked the simplicity of it all, the feeling of belonging with the pack the thrill of chasing prey.

And... Then he woke up, Jake yawned and frowned. Another great dream ruined by the necessity to arise from slumber. He wanted rid of it, his human life at least and roam around as a wolf like in his dreams. But this was a dream, he thought and dreams don't come true. He rose, rubbing his eyes as he got to his feet. Stretching his arms he groaned, releasing the stiffness from his body as he lay there for hours on end dreaming of a better existence. But.. something was different, he peered down at his feet.. he swore they were further away than when he went to bed yesterday. And less hairier with less claw like toe-nails. He rushed into his bathroom tripping over clothes that had recently been tossed around his room, turning it into more like a minefield than a bedroom. Checking his face in the mirror he recoiled in horror, his nose had extended forming into a muzzle of some sorts. Still growing he noticed, as the tingling continued from his now extended area that he once called a nose. His face had a more canine look to it as well. He also noticed a small change in his eyes, his normally boringly average muddy brown eyes changed into something very different. One was bright blue and the other was a vivid purple! Slowly looking into his eyes he felt himself looking back.. this truly was happening. Now looking down he noticed that his entire body had changed. His skin slowly sprouting browny fur all over his body. With the exception of his underbelly which now contained a brilliant white fur.

Enough was enough he shouted as loud as he could "MUM!, could you please come here for a second?" The last few words slowly turning into a murmur as he slowly felt a tingling sensation at the back of his spine, his tail bone slowly mutating and pushing at his skin. All of a sudden a brilliant brown tail burst from his body he looked on aghast as the person he once knew as a mediocre high schooler turned into a sort of man wolf. He suddenly heard the precedes of his mother rushing up the stairs, her short breaths catching Jake off guard as he suddenly realised his vision and hearing had improved. He looked at the floor, his vision was incredible. He was able to see every individual grain and knot in the floor with crystal clear vision. It was like his life was now in super HD. His mother bust in, and upon seeing her, he gasped in surprise; his mother had changed as well.. Now standing there with wonderful black fur with white hair cascading down to her shoulders. Her ears where long with hair in white tufts around the base of her ears.

She looked at him smiling "How are you Jake?" she all but whispered.

"Err.. fine I guess?" He said raising an eyebrow at his strange new mum. "Is this happening everywhere" he wondered aloud.

His mum answered "Yes, check Facebook it's happening everywhere" His mum said louder than last time.

He rushed and grabbed his laptop from underneath his bed. Quickly typing - and failing with his new fangled claws - he eventually got onto Facebook and saw the mass panic this strange change had caused to happen. People were very confused at what had happened, some blamed it on a disease that had affected millions of people worldwide and one of the stranger theory's was that God had forsaken the wicked with this disease. But Jake knew only one thing, he loved it.

The strange thing however was that not everyone was changing, some remained in human form. Afraid of getting the disease they hid underground together cowering in basements and anywhere they thought relatively safe. After a while they rose up from their hiding places and looked on in wonder at the strange new world. The population of changed humans adopted the phrase of calling them selves 'Anthros' instead of animals. Most humans accepted the new creatures as people. But a few of the newly emerged humans looked at he new 'beasts' as they called them with disgust. After a few months the Humans that disliked the Anthros - now known as the HAAA, Humans Against Anthros Alliance - started organising attacks on Anthros, this cause friction between the two species and eventually they where forced to split. Anthros in the North and Humans in the South, separated with a huge wall that stretched across the entire world.

After many months in his new form, Jake had grown accustomed to his new appearance. After the 'Divide' life had changed drastically for Jake, he had moved hundreds of miles away. In what used to be known as Pitlochrie in Scotland before the divide. While cold his thick fur protected him from most of the cold. He couldn't imagine life anywhere else, he loved the wilds of Scotland. Ever since the Divide the Anthros boasted of being greener than their rival humans. There was no heavy industry and the air was much cleaner, forests had been planted and it now resembled what life was like thousands of years ago. Before humans settled in the area. Jake loved roaming the forests, just him and his thoughts admiring the beauty of it all. The clean air and the wildlife that had slowly returned. Deer came back to the forest, and with no human interference through hunting and such, they had thrived. There were many animals near the village where he lived. As he strolled through the forest admiring his surroundings he decided to head home, his sister and mother would be getting worried by now. So he set off and sprinted the last few miles - Anthros also boasted increased endurance and speed over the humans aswell.

He entered the small village where he now found his home, there were many variety of Anthros here; Wolves (like himself), Felines of all shapes and sizes, Otters and Weasels. All with unique differences that made them, them. As he approached his house he saw his mother looking stern through the window.

As he entered his mother rushed into the room and whispered menacingly "where have you been mister, you know it's dangerous around these parts. There's been talk of humans around!"

"Sorry mum" he said, but there was no apologetic tone in his voice.

His mother shook her head and said "Dinner will be ready in a few minutes, go upstairs and put a T-shirt on for Christ's sake"

Jake after the change didn't feel the need to wear a shirt, barely anyone else did now a days. It was unnecessary the fur on his body had better insulation than clothes could provide, and wearing any clothes felt pretty stupid. He wore trousers however as it felt rather awkward walking around with his tackle out. His mother however thought it was very important to wear clothes. The remembers what his mother says 'we may be animals, but we are not animals without manners'. He rushed upstairs, his enhanced hearing making his footsteps deafening. He didn't hear it, the simple snapping of a twig. It should have been nothing, but it wasn't.

The human(s) are coming...
