High Tail High Chapter 7: New Embrace
High Tail High Chapter 7: New Embrace
- * * Venting. Everyone has to do it, be it themselves or with others. Sometimes it's best to choose one or the other, depending on what is needed to vent. Sometimes it takes much more then just a good long talk to get it all out, but some simple words can change the entire life of a person you care most about. That time spend gains much more then solving life problems, but in some cases, love and emotion problems flow inward as well. The door gently brushed shut behind him. A cry, faroff in the distance, came from around the corner, but he couldn't hear. Everything was a high pitched whine, deep gasping sorrow and blurrs. The aching of his footpaws slid up and down the balls of his ankle as he grudgingly stepped up the staircase and into his room before followed by the slow inviting creek of the old wooden door. Another shuffle, first left, then right, and now onto the soft welcoming comfort of his own feathery bed. His deep breathing pulled in deep gasping breaths, the paws taking hold of the spare pillow and curling his body around it to his chest. A single cold tear slid down his cheek and onto the pillow. Silent as the wind, his mouth formed the words, "I'm so sorry Mark," over and over until exhaustion took his consiousness. He didn't know what time he got home, nor how long he had slept. All he felt was the stabbing pain in his chest and the numbess in his legs. The day seemed to have sunk away, lights down to a mid-orange glare through the slips of the blinds. A soft, repeating knock at the door signaled his wake from the pleasant dreams. Both of his eyes were now poised at the door. Weakly, he called out, "Yeah?" The knob twisted and a big wolf head popped inside. "Hey bud...you ok?" His throat finally unclenched as he sighed. Nothing really could explain what had happened. It would expose him to that much more conflict today. The last thing he thought of before answering was the other wolf. His wolf. "Y-...no...It's not." Mike finally pulled all the way into the room, carrying a tray of hot steaming soup and a grilled cheese. Carefully, he placed the tray onto David's lap and looked at him silently before sitting down next to him. "Wanna vent it out to me?" He really couldn't say no to it. A slow, growing urge filled the dark pains in his stomach and chest, much like a tide overtaking the beach. Bits and pieces of thoughts carefully formed to him. Sure, Mike's been a very lax fatherfigure, but that doesn't mean he'd turn on him because he was gay. That was, at least, his idea on the matter. Soup really calmed him down, and the wolf knew it. Sighing softly, his white paws grapsed the spoon and he took a comforting bite of the chicken noodle. All of the time, MIke had watched quietly to the side, listening with ears poised up and at the ready. The ferret seemed too tense, but that was quite obvious. Every guy in this situation was at some point in their life. "M-mike...don't tell Burda." The other shifted uneasily, hearing the strain in his voice. "I won't, but what can't I tell her?" "Th-that I'm...gay..." Silence covered the room with a aura of unease. David's heart beating to the hum of fear filled the void slightly, but not enough to notice it's akword silence surrounding Mike and himself. Each second of the puzzled wolf's face seemed to hang in his mind as the clock ticked away nearby. Mike coughed slightly, rubbing his throat a little nonchalauntly before remaining still. David was paralyzed in his own fear and words, the paws were starting to clam up and shook erratically. All this time he could feel Mike's eyes looking at him, but was unable to tell in what way. He couldn't look up to see his judgemental gauze. But his voice broke the eternal silence gently by saying, quite casually, "Oh yeah? Well that's interesting." David cautiously looked up, his green-blue eyes shimmering gently. Mike was trying hard to make the situation lighter, he could tell by the goofy-ass smile the wolf was carrying shaggily. His trembling slid to a crawl as he smiled back. "Ya think...?" "Well yeah! I-er-mean..." Mike chuckled a little to himself. "...look...you know, I'm not your real 'dad'. Hell, your not my son. Gay, straight...whatever, right? I shouldn't tell you what you should and shouldn't be." David's eyes softened as he quickly leaned over and hugged the wolf's side tight. He blinked in surprise of the sudden embrace before patting his back softly. Everything on David's somewhat scrawny shoulders seemed to have been lifted up and taken away, leaving him with only joy and gratitude for the wolf. Slowly, he pulled away and wiped his eyes. Mike said, "Ok...finish your soup up, big guy." He gave the goofy smirk, it reminded him so much of Mark. The big wolf pushed up into a stand and strolled over to the door as if nothing really changed from him. "M-mike..." His head turned back to the ferret. "Thanks...alot." A soft chuckle, again, roused from his deep voice as he called back, "No worries," and shut the door with the wag of his tail. The metallic 'clang' of the locker being shut was followed by his footsteps. Sunday night slipped by his paws once again, and school started back on cue. But something continued to rake against his chest all day. It was crushing his inside and nothing he did pulled the aching out of him. Thoughts about those soft, white paws, the light blonde hair and emerald-green, sea-blue eyes made each second hurt more and more. He, once again, found his paw up next to his heart, and very nearly gripped his shirt off. Mark took a sharp, studdery breath. "D-damn love. Damn it I say." He muttered, whipping around dramatically to get to his class. "Ever since that...that...err! Why? Why me, damnit? It's always me, and not the other-" "Way around!" David said, nearly crying out loud to himself. "I do love him, but does he love me? Comon, after that...I might as well hang myself. Damn wolves and...their sexy...toned..." He sighed and shook his head. "Gotta get to class..." It was another hour in Chemistry with Jaden. The cheetah remained utterly quiet during the entire class until about midway, when he seemed to be unfocused on the teacher and more on David. He could feel the other's small glances before a small note was prodded over with his yellow finger nonchalauntly. The ferret pirked a brow slightly, head forward but eyes on the note as he scooped the small piece of paper up with his two fingers. "To: David From: Jaden-" "That figures...a to/from letter...but...why..." He thought, blinking and jerking his head up suddenly when the teacher scouted for an example. Luck was his side, a female jaguar was picked to resemble an atom for today. Shuddering a soft, quick sigh, he opened the note and looked up, but eyed down at the note. "Hey, sorry about the note. Can't talk in class, remember last time? Heh, anyways I wanted to know something. Write back." David tilted his head in confusion and looked up to see Jaden's expression only to find it nose-buried in notes. He sighed and went back to his own while he had time. The bell rung out, releasing everyone to lunch. Luckily, David and Jaden had the same lunch. Unluckily, however, Jaden was too shy to follow up with his notetaking to the ferret and the chemistry as well. While staying after, David sighed and left the doorway with note in mid-paw, re-reading each word wordlessly to himself. Before he could look up, he was pushed into the wall slightly, making him look up and start a apology when he noticed it was Mark. "Oh, s-...Mark..." "David...um..." He tried to smile a little, but then frowned, "Sorry about that...what's in your paw?" "Huh? Oh, chemistry notes." He smiled, placing it in his pocket just as smoothly as he lied. "Uh...ok...l-look, we need to talk. You have lunch B too right?" David opened his mouth, though it came out slowly to a sigh. "...yeah..." Mark smiled a little, and David did too as they went down the hallway to get their mediocre lunch. They exchanged few words inbetween, some 'how are you's and 'fine, and you's. The white ferret felt a little akward being with the wolf he just slugged not two days ago. Every other second he could imagine a huge red balled furry fist swinging around to hit him into the shake machine, but that soon passed as they headed outside to sit. Mark was the first to try and make contribution to what had happened. "I'm...not mad. Just shocked really." He said, looking up to the ferret. "You got alot more behind those hidden scrawny arms, Davy." He couldn't help but smile, "I'm sorry...heh...it, er, was just a reflex." Mark grinned, "Helluva reflex...um..." He frowned and put a shaggy red paw behind his own neck. "David...I still love you..." Dry air rose up in his throat, so many words failed him at this point. It was like a grammar massacre for him. Sighing a little quietly, he looked down and tapped his foot slightly. "Mark...I...just don't know. People don't know, a-and..." He straightened up and took David's paw softly, "It's ok...they don't have to. As long as we love each other David..." David looked down at the warm comforting paw, squeezed it, then shook his head. "No...it's not that. I..." He took his paw away, "I don't love you, Mark...I don't feel it..." Mark blinked, looking directl into David's sea-blue and emerald green eyes before pulling back. His muzzle was half agape still while David gathered his tray up quietly, looking back to him. "I don't love you like you do to me...but..." He looked down, feeling his heart ache heavily, "As friends...just as friends." Wind quietly pushed past the two as David carried his barely scratched tray inside to dispose of, leaving Mark to mourn. ~Author Note~ Ok, ok.
