Awakening

Screams. The sreams of his friend. It was filling his ears, paralyzing him. But he couldn't move, because he was in pain. Agonizing pain.

The world seemed to be filled with shadows. The shadows were laughing at him. Him, who has failed at everything, who never had anything...

He tried to focus his thoughts. The picture of a little Zorua crossed his mind.

But it soon faded, clouded by a red mist.

'No!' his body trembled in fear. Losing his friend felt like losing his own life.

Just as he thought he couldn't stand it anymore, he felt warm and soft fur pressing against him.

The feeling brought a single name to his mind: Keir

He fought the pain and the darkness around him, wanting them to go away. He reached out to the fading Zorua in front of him. Screaming his name, he shoved away the darkness that was clouding his mind.

"Keir..." Zeke awoke, whispering with a faint voice.

"Shhh, don't talk my dear" a husky voice in his head spoke.

His heartbeat increased. Zeke wanted to get up and find the source of this strange, yet familiar voice, or at least try to answer it. But he could do neither, too weak to even open his eyes.

As he felt soft fur, caressing his cheeks, his mind melted away, falling back into a deep, but relaxing slumber.

Keir planted a gentle kiss Zeke's cheeks after the human fell asleep again.

He was lieing on his bedroll, close to the campfire. Keir sat next to his trainer, watching over his injured friend and gently caressing him whenever he seemed to suffer in his dreams.

As he looked into the raising sun, his mind wandered back to the happenings of the night:

As he saw his trainer getting hit by the wild Scolipede, his own heart seemed to stop. It felt like a part of his life was destroyed in front of his eyes. Anger and sadness filed him, soon mixed with the desire for strength. Strength to protect the most important thing in his life. As the feelings in him awakend, they gave birth to a new kind of energy. The energy materialized as a bright light, enveloping his body.

Keir knew what this light was doing with him: It evolved him, changing his appearance and giving him great powers. He had seen it happen many times, but beeing the one to evolve was a completely different experience.

As soon as the light vanished, he wasted no time. He attacked the Scolipede with all his new acquired strength. He put all his anger into the attacks, trying to finish the fight as fast as possible, so he could hurry to help his trainer.

Soon, the camp was filled with the leftovers of the wild Pokemon, because mercy was the last thing in Keir's mind. As soon as his rage vanished, he ran into the woods, searching for Zeke.

The fine nose he had soon picked up the human's smell, leading him the way.

He fell down to his knees when he saw the body on the ground, without visible movements.

Lieing his head onto the chest of his friend, picking up the rythmic beating of a heart. After picking up the sound of flat breaths too, Keir couldn't help but cry in relief.

The most important person in his live was still living.

However, after regaining his concentration, Keir also noticed a faint hiss coming from the body in front of him.

As he tore the humans shirt apart, the source of the sound soon got revealed:

It was the sketchbook Zeke took wherever he went. Now he knew where his trainer transported his little treasure. The bottom of the sketchbook was simply tucked away in his pants, the rest of it formerly hidden by the sirt.

However, its days as a sketchbook were over, because a purple liquid quickly ate its way through the pages, causing the ominous sound.

Keir couldn't help but smile, tears still running down his face. This little thing probably saved his own treasure's live. It not only softened the attack a tiny bit, but also hindered the lethal poison from coming into contact with the body.

His own treasure. The thought wouldn't leave Keir's mind, as he watched the human next to him sleep. After nearly losing him, he finally realized that he felt more than just friendship.

Love. That was the word that came to his mind and he couldn't deny it. He had fallen in love with his trainer.

"I love you" he whispered, a pleasant heat building in his chest.

"But would you love me too?"

==================================

As the sun already began to set again, Zeke finally managed to open his eyes.

At first his vision was still blurry, so he was unable to recognize his surroundings.

Slowly he sat up, still fighting the pain in his body.

Zeke tried to smile, because pain at least ment he was still alive, so things went better then he expected. Carefully but determined, he tried to stand up.

Keir. He had to find his friend, no matter how much his body hurt.

As he made a step forward, his right leg gave in, still too weak to support his body.

Just as Zeke thought he would painfully hit the ground, he felt soft paws catching him.

As he felt their fur on his bare chest, he remembered that he had already felt them before.

Zeke tried to take a look at his savior, slowly regaining his ability to see.

With his vision beginning to clear, he saw a pointed snout with a wide grin in front of him.

The grin was accompanied by two light blue eyes, staring at him happily.

"I'm glad you're finally awake" a rough voice in his head said.

"W-who are you?" Zeke asked.

"Don't you remember your best friend, silly?" The Pokemon chuckled.

"Keir?" The Trainer pulled his friend into a soft hug. "I'm so happy you're alright, but what happened to you?"

"I evolved" the Zoroark stated the obvious."Hope you like my new look."

"You look great" Zeke suddenly grinned, cuddling his Pokemon.

They both made themselves comfortable in front of the campfire, with Zeke asking his friend about the happenings of the last night.

When Keir was finished with the story, he handed the destroyed sketchbook to its owner.

After looking at the hole that was now going through the whole book, the pages started to crumble under his grip. Much to Keirs surprise, he threw it into the fire, where it burned with a crackling sound.

"Why?" Keir asked his friend.

"Because it was lost anyways. Besides, sketches can be drawn again, but lives can't be replaced. That's why I'm simply happy to be able to sit here with you now."

"That sounded kinda cute" the Zoroark chuckled, hugging the human, who was sitting between the Pokemon's legs and leaning back against the furry chest, tightly.

"Just like you" Zeke smiled.

"What...?" It hit Keir like a bolt of lightning, his heart making a jump. "W-why would you say that?" he stammered, blushing in a crimson red.

"Maybe because you are a bit clingy and started to drool all over me after I woke up? Besides, I wasn't sleeping all the time. I heard what you said." Zeke replied, now obviously blushing too.

Keir felt like his heart was going to jump out of his chest. He channeled all his power, but was unable to ask the question that was burning in his chest.

That's when the human turned his head and looked deep into the Pokemon's eyes.

They both were breathing heavily, when Zeke pulled his friend closer, giving him a soft kiss.

"I love you too."
