A failed hunter, A new dragon
#1 of A failed hunter
As James walked through the woods he recalled why he was here. He wanted to be in his fathers big game hunting guild. Contrary to the name the guild members were not hunters but slayers for hire on any creature. In order to join however he first had to kill and skin the lesser demon. It has been killing people and livestock at the edge of the village.
James always wanted to join and now was his chance to prove himself. His only problem was that he wandered to far and was now lost in the forest. Night was approaching fast and he knew that was bad. If the demon found him asleep it would surely kill him. His only chance was to find a place to hide.
As he looked left and right for a place to stay safe. There was a figure that stood in the shadows watching him. This figure was roughly 8ft tall easily towering over James's 5ft10inch frame. It watched him with a wicked grin on its face. When James ran of to the left it ran after him.
As James ran through the forest he could swear that something was following him. When he came to a clearing something could be seen glowing on the other side. It looked to be getting closer but the creatures body somehow never left the shadows. When the thing stepped into the moon light James was able to see its features. Its head was like that of a bull the eyes were just black holes like its eyes were removed , the demons neck, torso and arms were human in appearance but instead of the normal five fingers it had three on a hand and they were tipped with black claws.
The demons legs were digigraded giving it a small animalistic look. Its feet were that of a large bird of prey. From the moon light the demons skin looked red. Its mouth was in a beastly smile, showing a mouthful of razor sharp fangs.
As James stared at the demon it felt as if a dark eery cloud was over head. His legs felt as if they were marble, the more he tried moving his legs the more he failed. James just prayed that something would save him.
The demon ran towards him, which meant James was not going to live to see the next sunrise. Just as the demon was about to be upon him something threw it back. James looked up to see a large scaled body holding the demon down with a forepaw. With its massive jaws it bit the demon in half. Black blood sprayed all over James's face.
As the creature left it turned its long narrow neck so that its head was facing James. He could now see that the creature was a dragon. One thing crept into his mind. Why was he still alive.
From all the stories he had heard a dragon would kill a person on sight. They would swoop
down from the sky and burn villages. Maybe the tales were wrong. James got up and siezed one of the demons legs. With it he began his journey home.
Many years have passed and James is now a lonely man on the outskirts of his village. He
was banished for researching old myths on dragons. Ever since that faithful day almost thirty years ago. No one visits, his family forgot about him. He has almost gone insane due to the loneliness.
As he studied them others slaughtered them in hopes of great reward. He would often explore the surrounding area to find clues about them. Every once in a while a slayer would ask for his help. What he did was lead them to a hole. That hole led to a maze that one could only exit if they could fly.
While he was out one night looking for something new to study he heard a faint noise in the surrounding forest. Little did he know it was this night that something wonderful yet horrible would happen to him. James looked around before he set off in the direction he thought the noise was coming from. Hours were spent looking for the source of the noise and by the time sunrise was upon the horizon he had still not found the cause of it.
James needed sleep after being up all night but he needed a place to keep him out of sight. A cave was the first thing he saw and was a good place as long as it did not have current resident. The cave floor was not scratched like it was a usual used path. further down he did not find an torches or orbs of magic to light the way. So when he concluded his investigation he decided the cave was vacant.
James gathered some wood and started a fire to keep him warm while he slept. As he slept unbeknownst to him a figure was walking into the cave holding a baseball sized orb that was emmiting a yellowish light.
This figure was covered emerald green scales that once they reached its chest became yellow bands that stretched across its chest. Two breasts adorned her chest that were perky. Two reptilian wings adorned her back that let her soar through the air like a bird. A tail jutted out just above her ass and was almost as long as she was tall. She stood a little over 5'6 and her wings were still a good foot or two above her head.
Two horns one above each eye jutted out a bit before curling to the back of her head. Her eyes were a glorious golden with a reptilian slit of a pupil. A smile came across her lips showing off her pearly white teeth. She kneeled and picked up James and carried him deep into the cave. As she carried him James struggled because in his sleep a nightmare plagued him.
James awoke with a fright from his nightmarish sleep only to find he had been moved by something. He was in a natural jail cell would best describe it as stalactites and stalagmites blocked his way and a river of molten magma the other. James did not know what to think other than a demon had caught him and was going to eat him. Unfortunately and fortunately for him that was not the case. He was however not going to like what his captor had in mind for him.
As the dragoness walked down the stone corridor she imagined all the things she could do to her prisoner. The first thing she was going to do would probably be the most painful. She knew him and did not care if he remembered her for the human mind begins to dull with age. It was seven years ago when she had first met him. She was flying back to her cave when a storm started, at first she thought she could hold her own in it.
Unfortunately that was not the case because after twenty minutes in to the storm a strong draft of wind caught her by surprise. It sent her spiraling down into the ground below causing her left wing to brake at the joint. Two days she was unconscious until the third when she managed to hike a few miles until she collapsed out of weakness. It was at this moment a human stumbled upon her and instead of killing her he dragged her back to its home. That is where he managed to bandage and splint her wing, he also gave her minimal contact and never spoke a word.
When her wing was healed he never came back and she kept telling herself she didn't care but tears were in her eyes. She was snapped back to reality when she heard him yelling for help. The dragoness quickened her pase but keeping the tray she was holding steady as well. On the tray was a simple meal consisting of a roasted deer leg and a stone cup filled with mead. However this mead had been mixed with a special ingredient to start her plan.
This ingredient would do two things one was make him younger but by how much she did not know so she would either get a mate or a son. The second effect would change him completely so that he was no longer a weak little human. When she arrived at the river of magma she flew over and set the tray down and flew back. James looked at the tray before moving closer to examine it better, he knew that it was edible but he didn't trust it. After an hour James was hungry enough so that he began to eat the deer leg, when he grabbed the cup of mead and drank it he noticed an odd taste.
When night set in the and torches that helped light the cell went out which made the magma the only source of light. It took a long time for him to get to sleep only to be ripped away from his slumber because of agonizing pain. It started at his feet as the bones broke, split, lengthened and shortened into a new shape. his toes merged until he only had three with each one tipped with a sharp claw. A weird feeling began to crawl its way up his legs, where the feeling had passed it began to itch.
He reached his hand down to scratch the itch as his hands began to change, the places he scratched at the skin would flake of revealing red scales. A small bump formed just above his ass but it quickly grew to full length. James's eyes went from a normal human eyes to slitted pupils surrounded by a green iris. Wings erupted from his back, when he stood the last of the skin fell off of him revealing the same yellow bands across his chest and stomach. He looked over his body for he knew something was wrong.
James only got a small amount of rest before he began to feel strange again. He began to shrink as he went from an adult to a child that looked no more three. This final change was the breaking point for him. He went over and sat into the corner and began to cry as he did his wings closed around him creating a scalie cocoon. On her way back to check on James she heard crying and rushed towards her prisoner.
When she found him in the corner crying and was surprised how far he had regressed in age. She flew over the magma and towards James to see what his scale color was but the light was to dim. With a wave of her hand the torches were lit letting her see his blood red scales. She walked over to him and picked him up in her arms like a mother holding a baby. James slowly stopped and his wings returned to there normal position.
He looked up at her and she smiled at him in hopes to cheer him up for the next day. She brought him to a room in the cave that when lit up it looked like it was the bed chamber of a king. However there was no bed just a pile of pillows that had a smaller one next to it. She set him on the smaller pile and spoke for the first time to him. "This is where you will sleep, right next to mother." James looked perplexed at her words and she could tell.
"It was me who prepared that potion in your food and it was you who helped heal my wing all those years ago. Now we also need to give you a new name for your old one suits you no more. So you shall be called Drake from now on, and will call mother. James opened his mouth to protest but all that came out was a soft chirp. She laughed at him and spoke in her soft voice again " you are to young to speak and even if you could you would have to relearn with your new more slender tounge."
James stuck his tounge out in front of a mirror only to be surprised at the fact that how narrow and long it was. He began to hear sing and looked over at her to see she was beginning to lay down on the larger pile. As she sung he began to feel sleepy until he was out like a light. She placed a hand on his cheek and smiled before she waved her hand to put the torches out so they could sleep in peace
